I watched today because I'm a huge JM/Palmer fan.... I nervously waited for the show to being, not sure why I was going to watch, since they all but botched Myrtle's Tribute..
Sure Myrtle's was heartbreaking and I did love Zach breaking down, Erica, Opal, Jangie.... but Pratt being Pratt, screwed the rest of it up...
Today, I was surprised that they actually did it right...
I'm no supporter of anything AMC anymore.... I also don't think LB has done a good job, considering the GL/Ryass/David/Annie hour, but today they surprised me...
Loved seeing Daisy & Nina....
I loved the flashbacks, memories, the smiles, & the tears...
It was fitting that Tad, Adam, Opal, Daisy, Nina, Erica, & Brook were all together...
Loved that Angie remembered Palmer...
Loved seeing my precious Kendall... AM is stunning.....and she did a great job in that scene..
In fact, everyone, AM, MEK, SL, DC, DM, BE, JB, JL, RPG, all the actors hit it out of the ball park and the writing was on target for a change...
JM/Palmer deserved respect and for once TPTB gave it....
Lately, I've had nothing and I mean nothing good to say about AMC>...... Tomorrow, the show will go back into the hole, but today, for just an hour it was the show I used to love...
The entire show was about honoring Palmer and that is the way it should have been....
I also want to say, Thank goodness no Greengnat, No Ryass, No Annie, No Fake Liza....
I want to thank TPTB for sparing us, just this one day, to honor an amazing actor and much loved character....
It makes me so sad that they can get it rigth this one time, but even sadder knowing tomorrow the show goes back to yuckdome....
Palmer's Tribute was well-written, well-acted, and a must see moment..... Too bad it's the only one were going to get for a long time and too bad such an amazing, loved man has passed....
They really did right by JM/Palmer and I'm happy for that...
It made me sad to see Dixie at the end. I guess she really is never going to be allowed back to the land of the living! *sniff*

I'm not a Dixie fan, never really had any use for her, but I thought the ending was sad, but right on target....
Too have Dixie be the one to greet Palmer was great.....
Another thing they did right and it wasn't spoiled so for the T/D & Dixie fans it was a treat.....
Wait, I don't mean treat.... I mean, they brought her on to take Palmer home and I thought it was good....
Hope you all understand what I'm saying..
It was a well written show for the most part and did show James Mitchell the love and respect he was due. The fact that Ryan and Greenlee were not on were a bonus, I didn't feel the need to fast forward anything.I have to say I was not crazy about the idea that Daisy came in once a year to have a "same time, next year" relationship with Palmer every year. I found that a little far-fetched and more than a little icky...let's all talk fondly about a husband having an affair once a year and cheating on his faithful wife...especially when it didn't happen and it was just created for the memorial. Especially when Daisy had actuallly pushed his relationship with Opal. It seemed kinda stupid.I also wondered why they couldn't fly in Ray McDonnell for the event...I would have liked to see Dr. Joe and Ruth, not just hear about them. And where was Petey? I know/or these people are not on contract but they belonged at the service. But I guess I am talking about small potatoes. Overall, the tone and dialogue for the show were above average and it was a nice break to the sham that AMC has become. Sadly, I will have no qualms not tuning in again today.

ITA with this...The tone of the show yesterday was great, but today they go back to the GreenSlime, Ryass, Fake Liza, Annie hour and today I'm back to not watching.....It's a shame that they can do the right thing one day and then completely go back to the ish the next..Makes me wonder if LB hands aren't tied...... Frons dictacting that his precious pets must suck the life out of the show at all costs......I just can't believe that he didn't force Rylee, Annie, Fake Liza on us for Palmers Tribute.....but I'm glad they didnt ruin it by being on...
Yes the show was great. Now why can't they stay on that track?Thank you Mr. James for many wonderful years. PC was loved
I have yet to watch the whole show but what I saw so far blew me away. I loved Palmer and Opal but I really loved, loved him with Daisy. They had such a great relationship. I know that they loved each other so much in real like so nice that they included her. I was kind of hoping that there would be some way to bring back Cliff. I know that Peter is on Y&R and I guess too much to ask for him to come back for one show. Funny I still think of him as Cliff and not Jack on Y&R. I always refer to him as Cliff when watching, maybe another reason for him not to come back. But great show. Thanks AMC and thanks James. PC will be missed.
It was great to see Nina and Daisy, and I cried during the last segment of the episode. JM was a treasure and we were all very lucky to have watched him on the show. Now for my criticism. I don't understand why AMC can't use more clips, and better ones, to show us memorable moments from the past. I felt this way with the 40th anniversary show, and I felt this way yesterday. Adam and Palmer sharing a flask, for instance, was not a memorable moment, cute as it was, for two characters who had been at each other's throats for years and years and who delivered zingers at each other like it was nothing. And I have to confess something. Part of my deep sorrow at yesterday's show is that I miss how AMC used to be--compelling TV which required that I watch it during my lunch hour in grad school with 6 other ladies who couldn't get enough of Pine Valley right along with me. I remember when the acting was as good as JM, DC, JB, SL and everyone else could possibly give to their audience, and the writing was riveting, and now? AMC is dominated by storylines that don't make much sense, come out of nowhere and are very dull, played by actors who are overexposed and overhyped as they use up the vast majority of airtime. And my show, which I used to adore for so long, is not the same show anymore. All this was driven home for me as I watched the Palmer and Daisy scenes, and Palmer and Adam scenes, and Nina confronting her dad, and it's just not the same, and I found myself crying as much for that as I did for JM. JMO
I feel the same way that you do. AMC used to be must see tv for me. Actually after yesterday's episode I don't think that I will watch anymore because it is obvious that Dixie is dead and she was my main reason for watching for years. Sooo, since this show is not the one that I grew up watching and the one I have watched for years, it is time for me to bid farewell to the show that I have loved for so long.
I loved Palmer with Daisy also and I honestly believe that she was the love of his life. Opal was a close second. I would have liked more flashbacks also. Palmer drove a lot of story, there was a treasure trove of moments that could have been mined. I noticed Angie was there but they never mentioned how Palmer was instrumental in breaking up Angie and Cliff because he disapproved of their relationship. They could have used flashbacks to show how Palmer's presence in her life affected it.

I like Cliff and I liked Angie but I didn't like them together so I had stopped watching for a while. He was an amazing actor and the story lines ruled back in the day. There are no love stories like Nina and Cliff or rivals like Palmer and Adam. What a shame!
I agree with what you had to say about Dixie. I was really trying to keep hope alive, but when they showed her welcoming Palmer into heaven at the end....all my hopes went flying out the window. I just don't understand what this show has become. It is no longer a soap opera that is story-driven. It's all based on politics of what Frons wants. Funny how they can have one semi-good show and then the very next day it's right back in the toilet. It was like night & day. Don't get me wrong, I thought the tribute was nice, but come on...they could have done a lot more, fore a character like Palmer. I thought I would see more clips...more scenes of how Palmer drove various stories over the years, but unfortunately that didn't happen. Hell, I believe he deserved more than just one episode of tribute. It all seemed very rushed. He was dead, Daisy & Nina both fly into town, a group of people sit around and talk about the old days and then its all wrapped up and finished within the hour. I wanted more than that. It was in too neat of a package. And where the hell was Petey? I mean, come on AMC, Palmer was his father... Where was Melanie? Ellen? Ross? I mean, I got kind of excited when Adam mentioned Ross in the beginning of the show...was hoping he would make an appearance...but once again AMC dropped the ball on that one.Whenever you have a legendary character, such as Palmer, you pull strings and gather people together to pull together a wonderful send off. To me, there were way too many people missing, for this memorial. And of course, today back to Greenlee, David and all the rest of the garbage. I must say, I'm even sick to death of this crap between Annie & Adam. Adam never really loved Annie in the first place....Truthfully it would have worked out better if Annie would have been torn between Scott & JR, and have Adam battle to get his son away from her, to protect the family name....but Annie & Adam? Never made a connection for me.Don't know how much longer I will continue to watch...just so fed up with the direction of the show. Maybe May 12th will bring some new life, with the new writers stories beginning...but I can't say that I'm too excited or hopeful.
I kind of want to look forward to it, but I will admit that I am just not feeling the love since the one character I want to see on this show isn't coming back. I liked the tribute, but like you it could have been longer. There wasn't even any mention of Natalie. He broke several laws protecting her when Silver Kane was accidentally killed and I would have thought that at least Erica would have mentioned it and made a snide remark about his marriage to Nat. I am also surprised that no one said anything about his marriage to Cynthia Preston, his son Ross' ex-wife. Or her son Andrew who killed Natalie's husband Alex and who Palmer adopted. I would have even loved for Brooke to talk about how Palmer and Phoebe often sniped at one another. There were so many moments. Now, I feel cheated. You really are right. Look at all the past stars DOOL is bringing back to honor Alice. Those were really big stars back in the day. AMC should have done that. Palmer touched alot of lives. It should have been an over the top show for an over the top character. But overall it was still good. Better than a lot of the mess we see everyday.

See I come from a different perspective. I just don't understand what the heck the show is thinking. I see there hasn't been any real improvement in the obvious disconnect in what the show wants and what the audience wants.
I really couldn't care less about Dixie and have never been a Tad-Dixie Fan but for the life of me, I can't see why the show keeps toying with the Tad and Dixie fans. If you are really NOT going to bring her back - stop reminding the viewers. Let her go. And certainly don't have Tad say something stupid like like...AH, Krystal - my favorite ex-wife. That's just unnecessary and alienates fans at a time when the last thing you want to do is alienate any fan group..
Then you have the Erica and Jack fans who finally see some warmth between the couple and see lovely scenes with the couple... - knowing that a new actor will be coming in to be Erica's new love interest. What is that all about? Jack was pretty much out of the picture and now you entice the Jack and Erica fans so you can just slap them down again?
And then of course..the couple closest to my own heart...Zach and Kendall who were totally happy and positive in December/January, talking about possibly having another wedding in the future...when we were told that TK was done for good. Then surprise ..TK comes back for a week - everyone is all excited and sadly the scripts took everyone back to a year ago. The marriage is back to being iffy and Kendall is choosing between her marriage and Greenlee of all people. Even Alicia was quoted in SOD as being thrilled TK was coming back for a week, she didn't know what the storyline would be exactly but that she was told Zen were happy..and then we all got something else. It seemed to me that even Alicia Minshew was more excited before the visit than after.
Do TPTB think that anyone enjoys having their emotions and hopes slammed against a wall? In the last two weeks, as much as I loved and respected the tribute, AMC really jerked around 3 big fan bases for absolutely NO reason whatsover.
And they wonder why the ratings keep dropping. I hope the ratings for Palmer's tribute are very high because James Mitchell deserved it. For AMC, they don't deserve much in my book...except what they are getting...a loss of much of the audience. The lack of respect that AMC shows their fans is staggering.
OMG Kathy, we finally agree. LOL Just kidding, I know this isn't the first time we agreed on something. But I have to say, your post was absolutely on point. The fans have been jerked around for far too long, and it's getting old really fast. What is the point of bringing Jackson back full time, if you're only going to introduce another man for Erica? AMC has been jerking the Erica/Jackson fans around for over twenty years, and this is just another instance where the fans get the short end of the stick. All these bogus commercials about Jackson and Erica finally coming together...have been simply that...BOGUS! They had no intetions of reuniting them. It was just a ploy to get fans to watch again. And as far as Dixie is concerned. I'm FREAKING FED UP!! They keep using the fans love for this character against us. We are not allowed to forgive what they did to her or forget about this character all together, because they keep bringing her back for little stints. The Dixie/Tad fans have already stated so many times, "WE DON'T WANT TO SEE DIXIE AS A GHOST." But every chance they get, they throw a ghostly image in our faces, and we're supposed to be happy about that. NOT!!And even though I'm not a member of Team Zendall, I was thoroughly disappointed in the way they handled their brief reunion. Why bring them back only to have Zach join up with Greenlee's idea of Ryan & Kendall still having something going on between the two of them? As a matter of fact, I don't think any of us wanted to relive what happened between the two of them. And for Greenlee to have this ridiculous idea that Kendall tried to kill her, is just plain stupid. I wanted to puke when Zach told Greenlee that he didn't love Kendall the same way anymore. Ok, then why be with the woman at all? It just infuriated me!! They took all the Zendall fans backwards to when Zach & Kendall were unsure of their marriage. They've been gone for months, so one would think that they would have grown somewhat closer. Their whole reunion was a bust, in my opinion....because they totally dissed the Zendall fans. And you know something is wrong, if I'm complaining about that. LMAOAnd although the Palmer tribute was good.....it wasn't good enough. Palmer has been a part of AMC since 1979. So there should have been a lot more going into this tribute, than what I saw. Too many characters were missing, and not enough clips were present. I know that AMC stated that James Mitchell didn't want a ceremony on the show, so they respected him, in that right....but I just wanted to see more of what Palmer was a part of throughout the years. Palmer was a true Legend and he deserved more than what he got. God knows if Ryan or Greenlee was written out of the show, we would be subjected to months and months of characters grieving and endless dialogue about these two.And I agree with you...the lack of respect that AMC is showing to their fans is just totally unbelievable. I don't know what its going to take for them to see the light....THE FANS ARE NOT HAPPY!! So, quit turning a blind eye and fix the situation.
One more thing that I would like to add is, although, I thought there could have been a little bit more added to the tribute, I would like to say that I thought Jill Larson (Opal) did a spectacular job with her performance. It was heartfelt, touching and gut-wrenching... This goes to show TPTB, if you give a performer like Jill a chance with the right material, she can deliver a show-stopping performance. Here's an idea, give Opal more storyline and stop using her to just dish out advice to Erica about her love life. She's a great talent and they definitely need to use her more often.

You're right..it did deserve a thumbs up!James Micthell was an elegant, stunning man. I loved every single moment of his Pamer Cortlandt even when he was being cruel to Nina telling her she was blind, or when he was calling the Doberman's on Daisy. What a terrible loss, but I'm so glad we had him for so long and were blessed with this man's wonderful talent.Lorraine Broderick when left to write the way a soap should be written is wonderful. And we were blessed today because there was no Annie, Ryan or Greenlee...but why oh why did we have to have Krystal? She just didn't belong.I loved the flashbacks. My favorite was Erica remembering Myrtle and her mother and what a wonderful time in heaven it was going to be..and Brook telling Palmer to say hello to aunt Phoebe. It was a surprise to see Dixie at the end.One tiny argument...Daisy and Opal buried the hatchet years ago. Daisy was instrumental in getting Palmer and Opal together. For once all the glorious history was remembered and honored.Alicia Minshew is just etherally stunning and I am so glad she participated in the memorial. She and Palmer had a wonderful friendship.James Mitchell..thank you for gracing my TV screen everyday! .Rest In Peace!
