At a hospital in Maryland, Layla and Cristian spoke to Evangeline, whose face was concealed by a monitor. Lisa, Layla's mother, explained to Layla that her sister has an infection and has been brought to the hospital before for this sort of thing. Lisa was insulted when Layla and Cris asked to speak with the physician, who informed them that Evangeline must be on a ventilator to live. The doctor went on to explain that Vange's respiratory system is failing and Lisa hasn't been able to accept this. The next step is to make a decision about Evangeline's survival, she advised. Once the doctor was gone, Lisa interrupted a conversation between Cristian and Layla and essentially accused Layla of wanting Vange dead so she won't have to feel guilty anymore about dating Cristian.
Téa was relieved after Danielle returned from her meltdown in the park, while Todd caught up Blair on what happened at the barn. Todd revealed that Hannah has finally decided to retract her statement about seeing him push Marty. Blair shared that Eli proposed to her, and Todd was shocked to hear that she was still mulling it over. She explained her hesitation about not wanting to jump into another marriage. Surprisingly, Todd offered his support, saying he wants her to be happy. After chatting with her ex, Blair decided it was time to give Eli an answer, and left him a voicemail letting him know that.
Meanwhile, Starr visited James, who kept calling her Twinkle. Cole wasn't happy to hear Ford refer to their exchange as "romantic comedy." Ford asked for a moment alone with his brother, while Cole interrogated Starr about her friendly relationship with her hijacker. Ford apologized to James for not being around when he needed his brother, but promised to make it up to him and not let their father reenter their lives. Later, Starr returned to James's room and informed him that their trip had caused a misunderstanding between her and Cole, and this was the last time they'd speak.
Marty and John explained to Nora that Hannah wants total immunity if she reveals who pushed Marty, but Nora rejected the deal. Meanwhile, Eli threatened Hannah to keep quiet about what she saw and warned that what happens to Cole is entirely up to her. Later, Eli, Nora, John and Marty found Hannah on the floor rocking back and forth repeating the words, "I did it for Cole." Eli explained that he'd just witnessed Hannah regress to a childlike state after discussing "the truth." Marty leaned down to check on the girl, and she tearfully claimed that she did push Marty ... and attack Ford. "You know how much I love Cole," Hannah told Marty. "I'd do anything for him." Eli reiterated to the others that Hannah is falling apart before their very eyes. Marty was unable to get through to Hannah, so John tried to talk to the girl and asked why she'd say she didn't attack Robert or push Marty when she's now saying she did. "I lied!" Hannah repeatedly cried out. John asked why she keeps changing her story, but again, all she had to say was that everything she did was for Cole.
Tuesday
Jessica was looking over the news story she wrote on Hannah's confession when Natalie walked in and commented that she's awfully interested in Ford these days. Markko, Langston and John were reading the same story, while David checked out a photo of himself dumping water on Dorian and noticed that he needs to work on his core. Eli called Blair back about that answer she owes him and said he has to clean up a "big mess" before he comes over. Eli then approached Ford in the park as he was leaving a message for James. He noted that it's lucky "Jimmy" survived and that hospitals can be dangerous places. Ford was spooked and told Eli to leave him alone. As Eli continued to make threats, Ford realized that Eli was also trying to cover up that he pushed Marty.
David offered Bo a basket of muffins that he claimed to have made — with "real eggs" — and was disappointed when Bo didn't want to stay and have breakfast together. Bo interrupted David's excited rant about how they could read the weather page together to tell David that he needs to move out. Bo explained that there's not enough room for the four of them and made mention of the call girls David hired while Bo and Nora were away. David was quick to blame Nora for his eviction, but Bo insisted it's not her fault. He assured David that he'd be fine, and even promised to take him up on that breakfast offer soon.
Viki and Dorian faced off at the Buenos Dias about David, with Viki having to once again defend her hiring of David. After they got rid of Dorian, Charlie told Viki he thinks it's time they put their plan in action. Viki groaned. "Face it, Viki. This is our only way out," he insisted. "I have to sleep with Dorian." Viki suggested she'd seduce David, as well, since Charlie gets to lure Dorian to bed as part of their plan to get Dorian and David to admit their feelings for one another. Dorian sought out Markko in the kitchen and urged him to give Langston another chance.
At Llanfair, Jessica defended her interest in Ford and asked Natalie if it's really a good idea that she and John are working together again. Natalie said she's certain it's fine, even if they both have their "secrets," quickly pointing out that they're work-related secrets of course. David arrived with his basket of muffins before Jessica could question her sister further. At the PD, John expressed his skepticism to Brody regarding Hannah's meltdown and confession, and he wasn't ruling out Eli as having some role in it. John phoned Eli to summon him to the station. Before heading out, Eli told Ford that this is that last time they'll be in touch. Eli soon arrived at the station, and John didn't waste any time getting to the point: Why did Hannah so conveniently have a meltdown after her first meeting with Eli? The lawyer coolly explained that he asked her a few simple questions and that her transformation to unstable was sudden and quick. Bo shook hands with Eli on his way out, then asked what he missed at the station while he was away. John confided in Bo his suspicion that Hannah is faking and Eli may have put her up to it. Bo, John and Brody agreed to keep this theory between them for now.
Blair and Langston discussed the story in the paper about Hannah's meltdown as they lounged by Dorian's pool. Blair told Langston about her confrontation with Ford, and Langston seemed touched by his claim that he still cares about Langston. Blair assured Lang that Ford was just being insincere and revealed that Ford tried to hit on her. Just as Blair was telling Langston about her proposal, Eli texted to say he was done with work and could talk. Langston gave Blair her blessing and left her alone to wait for Eli, then ran right into Ford in the park.
Natalie and Jessica chowed down on David's muffins and both suddenly felt sick. After they both ran to the bathroom, they wondered if the muffins had done them in. Meanwhile, David interrupted Viki and Charlie's breakfast to talk about his ideas for The Banner, which included muffins as the hot new breakfast treat. He suggested that to work most effectively, he'd need to move in to Llanfair. Dorian walked up just as Viki agreed, and Viki and Charlie kicked their flirting plan into high gear.
Wednesday
At the hospital, Nate introduced himself to James and explained that he was the one who found the money. James asked what Nate did with the money, and Nate assured him that it went to a good cause. Meanwhile, Cole wasn't too pleased to find Starr calling the hospital to check on James. He admitted that he was hurt because Starr didn't come to him when she was in trouble. Starr insisted that she couldn't wait for him to come home while he was in jail and that he's the only guy for her. They reaffirmed their love and hugged, just as Cole's phone began to ring.
Langston ran into Ford in the park and refused to hear him. He pleaded with her to listen, and even grabbed her arm to stop her from leaving. As Langston was yelling for him to back off, Markko rushed up and told Ford to get away from Langston. Ford couldn't help but make a jab at Markko about his conquest of Langston before leaving them alone. Markko explained that he came there looking for Lang after Dorian urged him to talk things through with her. Langston wondered if Markko would consider giving her a second chance, and said she'd give anything to take it all back. They admitted that they both still care for each other, and ended up in a kiss.
Before Todd's hearing, Danielle apologized to Todd for doubting him. Judge Shriver arrived and rattled off the charges against him, which Téa requested be dropped based on Hannah's confession. The judge was apparently in the dark about this confession but agreed to drop the charges. After, Dani offered Todd a handshake as congratulations, which clearly made his day. Téa asked Dani to clear out so she could finish some paperwork, and was later speechless when Todd thanked her with a marriage proposal.
Eli finally showed up at La Boulaie and informed Blair that he's representing Hannah. She assured him that won't be a problem for them, so he asked if she has her answer to his proposal. To Eli's delight, her answer was yes. Jack interrupted the happy moment and lied to Eli that he's fine with the engagement. Privately, Jack told Blair that she can't marry "that clown."
At St. Ann's, Marty donned her doctor coat and questioned the girl who is suspected of killing her baby. "I do what I'm told," Hannah cryptically stated. She talked about different "voices" who advise her to do certain things to win Cole's heart. Marty asked how long she's been hearing these voices, and Hannah claimed it had been going on since the start of the school year. Nora arrived and asked Marty if she thinks Hannah's breakdown is all an act, but Eli showed up before Marty could give her an answer. He asked for a moment alone with his client, and told Hannah he hears she's been talking. It was soon clear that Hannah is acting on Eli's orders to fake her condition. He advised her to just keep faking and she'll be out of there in no time. Marty, meanwhile, phoned Cole to let him know that Hannah made a confession and has been admitted to St. Ann's. Cole was stunned. He told Starr he needs to go to St. Ann's and see for himself whether Hannah's really crazy. Starr picked up the newspaper as Cole left and saw the news article on James and Bull's shooting. Starr promptly called Addie and asked if she could watch Hope.
At St. Ann's, Cole visited Hannah, who seemed very surprised to see him. He begged Hannah to be straight with him and asked if she really pushed Marty. Meanwhile, Ford returned to the hospital and found James talking to Nate. After Ford angrily kicked the teen out, James noticed that something else was troubling his brother.
Thursday
Viki acted completely out of character as she flirted with David at Llanfair and urged him to take off his shirt. While David was retrieving a bottle of Chardonnay, Viki called Charlie and wondered if they should call off their plan. When Charlie heard Dorian approaching, he pretended to be fighting with Viki over her letting David live with them. Viki played along just as David returned from the kitchen, then practically begged him to slip into a tiny bathing suit. David informed her that he'd retired the stars and stripes suit for the summer, so she presented him with a line of swimsuits to review for the newspaper's Style section. He returned in a pair of sequined, Santa-themed trunks but was too shy to model them. David couldn't believe how forward Viki was being during their photo shoot and actually became uncomfortable. Charlie, meanwhile, kicked things up a notch at La Boulaie by telling Dorian that he's lusting after her.
Rex ran around the country club looking for his fancy briefcase and asked Destiny if she'd seen it. After a brief monologue about how much he loved that shiny case, Gigi showed up with it in her hand. She showed him two guest passes from Bo and asked if he'd like to join him. As they relaxed by the pool, Gigi surprised him with a gift inside the case: A framed photo of Shane pitching. Rex loved it, but he just couldn't stop thinking about work, so with Gigi's blessing, he headed out with his briefcase. Destiny, meanwhile, found Matthew sitting by the pool and showed him the article about Bull and James's shooting. She reminded Matthew that she saw him with Bull the other day and demanded to know what he's hiding from her. Matt nervously admitted that he helped Bull find some money he was looking for, then showed her the book he'd been reading to assuage his guilt — Learning to Live With Guilt: It's Not As Bad As You Think, by David Vickers. Destiny promised to keep quiet about pointing Bull in Nate's direction, but only if he promised to burn that book.
Markko stopped himself from kissing Langston in the park and told her they can't go back. She wanted to blame herself, but he suggested that there must have been something wrong between them for her to cheat on him. He informed her that he got another scholarship to UCLA and this time, he's going. Langston was filled with mixed emotions as she congratulated him on the news. Even worse was hearing that he and Karen The Pizza Girl had been "hanging out" and were driving out West together. Langston and Markko shared a tearful but sweet good-bye.
At La Boulaie, Jack advised Blair against marrying Eli, explaining that there's something fishy about him. Blair asked Jack to keep an open mind about Eli for her sake, and he agreed. When Eli later returned from an appointment with Hannah, he asked if Jack was really okay with their engagement. "Sure," Blair nodded, clearly unsure. Meanwhile, Téa reacted to Todd's proposal by laughing in his face. But he was serious. "You're the love of my life," he declared. Téa and Todd headed over to La Boulaie, where Eli was chomping at the bit to announce his and Blair's engagement, but Téa had news to share as well: They're getting married! They wanted to tell Jack and Sam, but the boys were with Grandma Addie visiting Hope. To the ladies' dismay, Eli and Todd had a weird exchange when Todd told Eli he's going to have to wait until they get hitched first to marry Blair. At the hospital, Dani ran into Nate and gave a heartbreaking account of what it's like to watch her mom undergo chemotherapy. Meanwhile, Starr showed up at James's hospital room just as Ford was making James promise to stay away from her.
Friday
Upon hearing Charlie's confession, Dorian wondered why Charlie had been pushing her away all this time. He lied that he was simply afraid of competing with David. Dorian said that wouldn't be a problem, so Charlie tried to make her jealous by mentioning that David is with Viki right now and she may just give in to his charms! Meanwhile, David thought Viki's flirtatious behavior was so out of character that she might be Niki Smith. Nope, said Viki, reminding him that her personalities are integrated. Surprised by her advances, David assured Viki that he wants her, but Viki lamented that at the end of the day, he still loves Dorian. David denied it, so Viki pretended that she fears Charlie will cheat on her with Dorian and claimed that her husband even called out Dorian's name the other night! Tired of waiting for David to make the first move, Viki planted a kiss on him, just as Charlie did the same to a stunned Dorian.
Inez tracked down Nate in the park and told him she's returning the money that he gave her because she knows where it came from. Inez headed to the hospital to return the check to the room number Nate gave her and ran right into Ford, who clearly recognized her from somewhere. "Bobby, how are you?" she asked with great concern. When Ford asked why she'd want to know, she replied, "Because I'm your mother." He made it clear that he wants nothing to do with her anymore. She was shocked to realize that the patient in room 403 is James, her other son.
Meanwhile, Starr visited James, who didn't believe her when she claimed everything is fine at home with Cole. He asked if she told Cole that she and James kissed while they were on the run. Starr insisted that there was no reason to say anything because it was a fake kiss, but James was certain there was more to their relationship. Starr was enraged by his suggestion and stormed out, passing Ford and Inez in the middle of their emotional confrontation. Ford instructed his mom to stay away from James, so she secretly headed to the billing department to pay for James's hospital bill with the check. When Ford returned to see his brother, James wanted to know who he was arguing with, but Ford said it was no one.
Marty and John waited outside Hannah's hospital room while Cole confronted her about whether her breakdown is real. Hannah thought back to Eli's veiled threats about Cole and stuck to her story that she did it all because of Cole, who seemed suspicious of her cryptic statement that he's "safe." Hannah clearly wanted to say more, but once again claimed that everything she did she did for him. Cole returned to Marty and reported that Hannah is sticking to her story. Starr and Cole reconvened at home and Starr admitted that she'd gone to see James. Meanwhile, Marty told John that no matter what Hannah says, nothing changes the fact that their baby is gone.
Things heated up over at La Boulaie as Eli reminded Todd that he hasn't forgotten that Todd killed his brother. Téa defended Todd, recalling how out of control Ross was acting when he kidnapped Dani. But Eli wasn't hearing it, so Téa confessed that Ross is actually alive. When Todd suggested that Eli doesn't even care about his brother, he received a knockout punch from Eli. Their fight landed them both in the pool, while Téa and Blair congratulated each other on their engagements. Blair retrieved glasses of champagne for everyone and asked that there not be any more fighting. They toasted, but Eli would only wish Téa the best and couldn't look Todd in the eye.
Still in Maryland, Cristian and Layla watched over an unconscious Evangeline. Layla said she felt that Evangeline is no longer aware of their presence. Lisa walked in just as Layla was wondering if Evangeline had a living will. Lisa was furious and refused to discuss it, but Layla had a strong feeling that Evangeline would have written something like that as a lawyer. Lisa was skeptical when her daughter suggested they go home and go through some of Vange's things.
