3:55 Mailbag! We get great mail. Between fan campaigns sending clocks, or multiple pieces of the same “Save [fill in the blank here]” letter, or the wildly-decorated envelopes praising or denouncing a particular actor, the Digest mailbag is never empty nor boring. That said, the mail we get from actors tends to arrive a little less often, and isn’t often this generous. We’ve been invited by Jack Scalia (ex-Chris, AMC) on a cruise! Imagine that! The postcard he sent inviting us (see image over there) reads as such:Dear Friends,
I’d like to personally invite you to join me on the Carnival Triumph for a week long vacation filled with fun activities, exotic destinations and enough excitement to create memories that will last a lifetime. The ship will sail from Miami and make stops in Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios. As my special guest, you will enjoy a number of exclusive, invitation-only events that will give us the opportunity to get to know each other and walk away as friends. My agenda is marked for March 6-13, 2004 and I sincerely hope you can do the same. Invite your friends and family too for a one of a kind voyage!
Buon Viaggio,
Jack ScaliaAw, heck, now that’s a generous invitation — our family and friends! D’you think Jack’ll pick up the tab on them, too? Oh, wait … you mean, this isn’t a free trip? Rats. Apparently, however, if you’re interested, you should call 1-800-607-9246 for reservations. Check and see if it’s a free trip for those of us who got these snazzy postcards, willya? And on an unrelated note, here’s a reminder: The GL fanclub luncheon is this Sunday, October 12 from Noon until 4pm at the Marriott Marquis in NYC. Most of the cast members are going to put in an appearance, and events will include an auction and an autograph session! Be sure to let us know if you go to that, too … and what stories you have to tell. And that’s it for this week of Digest Today! We’re off on Monday for Columbus Day (he’s our favorite explorer; Magellan just wasn’t up to par this year, so we’re celebrating) so no updates until Tuesday. You’ll just have to wait. And dream sweet dreams about America’s Sexiest Man.1:01 PM The Big RevealFor those of you waiting with bated breath, today’s the big AMC reveal of the “Sexiest Man In America” Contest! We’re not sure who we’d pick, actually (and Brad Pitt wasn’t in the running for some strange reason), but it’ll be, well, interesting to see how this whole thing plays out. We’re used to sweet young things on daytime — but pretty (excuse us! Sexy) doesn’t always mean television-ready. Time will tell on this one … so finish making those bets with your buddies and let us know if you actually win any money on this one!And a little bit of interesting news: Disney is going to start up broadcasting in the UK — and it’ll be free, unlike their current pay channel. It should start up in the winter. So what does this mean for soap fans? Hard to say for us on this side of the pond, but apparently it means the Brits will now have access to ABC programming … including some of the soaps. AMC and GH are the ones cited so far in the articles we’ve read, but there may be much more to this in the future. Hey, if we can get EastEnders here (which now remains to be seen, alas, thanks to BBC America), they should be able to know who the Sexiest Man in America is, right? Right?10:10 AM Par-tay!
Yawn! Or, rather, good morning! Yes, it was a lovely Digest-sponsored cocktail shindig many of us attended last night, and as expected, we’re paying the price today. The Show Night Club near Times Square in NYC was the host for a splendid evening of drinks, tarot card readings (some of us have been informed we don’t need to worry about money, which is a big relief, although not we’re wondering about the tall, dark, handsome stranger about to enter our lives), lively chatter with some beautiful soap stars, a speech from ATWT’s Martha Byrne (Lily/Rose) and even an … uh, we’re not sure what to call her, but a very gymnastic young woman who climbed up and down a silken floor-to-ceiling scarf, a la Cirque de Soleil! Some highlights from the evening: Ricky Paull Goldin (Gus, GL) in a vintage leather jacket; Y&R’s Sharon Case (Sharon) and Heather Tom (Victoria) hanging together, perky despite their long flight over; OLTL’s Jay Wilkison (Riley), discussing possibly doing some more singing — but probably off the show; AMC’s Terri Ivens (Simone) hoisting a cosmo; GL’s Marty West (Shayne, GL), hanging with some of his co-stars and Wilkison. When asked what it was like to lie around and be paralyzed on GL for hours on end, he agreed it was a little bit of a challenge, “Since I have [attention deficit disorder]!” We’re not sure if he was joking, but being flat out for hours, motionless, would no doubt make anyone a little stir-crazy.Naturally, lots of other stars came, saw, hung out and partied appropriately. More on those once we get the photos in — and, if we’re lucky, a few of the photos themselves! And don’t forget: Tonight is Byrne’s major St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Event!
