Nancy Lee Grahn: To Tweet is Neat!

GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) loves her Twitter. That was the message during our phone conversation (I know, quaint, right?). Since it would take too long to share our chat 140 characters at a time, we present it here the old-fashioned way.Soap Opera Weekly: A little birdie told us you’ve been known to tweet on occasion.

Nancy Lee Grahn: Yes, I’ve become a “Twitterholic,” and I need help. I have gone nuts on Twitter. I’m obsessed. I’ll say something funny, then I’ll get 20 hilarious comments back immediately, so I find myself getting into this funny/entertaining vortex; three hours later, I’m walking away from the computer. I tweeted the other day, “My kid is sitting in a tree, reading a book, begging to be fed, and I’m sitting there, telling her, ‘I’ll be right there, honey! Mommy is doing something very important.'”

Weekly: How long have you been doing this “very important” hobby?

Grahn: I just started about a week ago. Sarah [Brown, Claudia] has been on for, I guess, seven months. Brandon [Barash, Johnny] and Kirsten [Storms, Maxie] are the other ones twittering.

Weekly: How many followers do you have?

Grahn: I have a little over 2,500, and Sarah has like 5,500. I think Brandon and I are almost tied now. I’m feeling very competitive. Now I’m on a mission to become the big tweeter.

Weekly: Would you like us to put out the word that you’re looking for followers?

Grahn: Yeah, go ahead [laughs]. Say this: We’re tweeting for women over 45, and those who love women over 45! Because, in all forms of media, [the-powers-that-be] think that demographic is useless and doesn’t do [computer] stuff. I’m saying that in all forms of media, we should be a force to be reckoned with!

Weekly: Well, your voluminous tweets are a force to be reckoned with!

Grahn: You’re supposed to just say one thing a day. Well, I’m on it, like, 120 times within a half-hour, just twittering away every thought. The other thing is, I get to vent my political side. I’m so insane about [Iranian President Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad. I get to rant to anyone who will listen. Who wouldn’t want to do that?

Weekly: Do you also have a Facebook page?

Grahn: I’m going to be doing that. How many things can you do? Many people do Facebook; that’s why I probably have to get a page. I might have to hire somebody to do that! I need to keep up with the new media. I don’t know if Twitter is going to last or not, so I’m going to start a Facebook page, probably in the next couple weeks.

Weekly: I’m sure your followers are breathless with anticipation.

Grahn: I have very funny followers; frikkin’ hilarious! Half of these people should be writing for television!
