Nancy Lee Grahn: Hey, Buddy, Can You Spare a Tweet?

Twitter may be a relatively new Internet application (and obsession for some), but GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Nancy Lee Grahn is already legendary for her entertaining (and copious) tweets, which provide a bounty of fun information about her professional and personal lives. (Are you reading her European vacation updates — in French?) And she just recently expanded her cyberempire. “I’m still doing Twitter, and I’ve got the Facebook page going now, too,” chuckles Grahn, who is still willing to use that 10th-century innovation, the telephone — for interviews. “It’s not as interesting to me as Twitter. With Twitter, the responses that come back are very funny. And it’s more instant gratification. I like when it’s more immediate; it’s more fun.”

And Grahn is using her cyberpowers for good, encouraging her followers to donate to charities. “I made $2,000 for the food bank. I can pick a different charity every couple of weeks and just send [contributions]. I’ve been doing it for weeks, and that’s money for charity.

“I’m working with a regional food bank in Los Angeles. Food bank money goes to the regional food banks. I already got a couple of thousand dollars. And when I have my [fan events], I’ll get some more.”

Grahn is trying to work out a way to make giving as easy — and as rewarding — as tweeting. “Because people are just so great, what I’m thinking is, we’re trying to set it up so you can literally send a dollar [via Twitter]. I’m trying to do this dollar-a-day thing, so there’s a constant flow of money. And a dollar is no big deal. We have to figure out a way to [let people pledge] a dollar so it’s not cost-prohibitive. [Perhaps] doing it through PayPal or sending it right to the charity through your credit card. There’s got to be some way. My Web people are working on it!”
