thought it would be fun to do this since the end is near. #5Holly Thorpe give her credit she is a survivor. #4Alan Spaulding. Where would GL be without him the last 30 years. #3Annie Dutton. The original one. STILL miss her and her crazyness. #2 Diane Ballard. Though only on for 3 years just loved her toughness and her mind. And of course #1 Roger Thorpe. Enough said. RIP Michael Zaslow. Thanks to all the great actors for so much fun over the years.

I have not seen GL since 1992 when it was yanked off the air where I live. But I thought I'd join in with my top 5; of course I will ony be naming my favorites from 1984 to 1992. #1 Vanessa Chamberlain, #2 Alan Spaulding (Chris Bernau), #3 Alexandra Spaulding, #4 Alan-Michael Spaulding,#5 Reva Shayne Lewis. I have more than 5 favorites; however, I will stick with the top 5.

Quote:5) Roger Thorpe4)Holly Thorpe3) Nola Reardon2)Jackie/justin Marler1) Bert Bauer... good choices, especially the original Jackie, was her name Cindy Pickett? Do you remember charlotte Bauer and Kit Vested from the 70's? Both crazies and I believe Kit killed Charlotte. I like the BAD girls!!!!

Great topic! It's SO hard to limit to five all-time! Here goes:5. Rita Stapleton - poor Rita - she couldn't ever get out of her own way!4. Roger Thorpe - rapist, philanderer, playboy - perfect combo!3. Holly Reade - Talk about being sucked into someone's vortex - poor Holly never got over Roger2. Annie Dutton - better than Kit Vested, Lucille Wexler, Sonny/Solita Lewis and Nadine Lewis - I agree, though - only the original Annie1. Bert Bauer - The best - ever. Enough said.Honorable mentions: Mary Stuart's Meta, Nola Reardon, Dinah Marler, Mike Bauer and the nutty ladies mentioned above!

In no particular order:Reva Shayne Lewis Lewis Lewis Spaulding Winslow Lewis O'Neill: If the whole hour was KIm Zimmer reading the phone book, I would watch. Reva can do anything!India Von Halkein: My love for Mary Kay Adams notwithstanding, the only one who could go toe-to-toe with the sublime Beverlee McKinsey's Alexandra Spaulding. Watching those two pros was indeed a privilege.Annie Dutton Lewis: GL's very own Sheila Carter, as played by Emmy-award winning Cynthia Watros. Her story was the last great GL story.Holly Norris Thorpe Lindsey Reade: Previously a victim, Holly took control of her own life. And Maureen Garrett is a sorely underused talent.Roger Thorpe: Singlehandedly revitalized GL in the 90's. One of the most complex characters in daytime. He could be ruthless and evil (to Jenna Bradshaw) and but also had a good friendship to the moral compass of Springfield (Maureen Bauer, who saw through his BS). Any scene with Roger/Holly or Roger/Maureen was soap opera gold.Honorable mentions: Sonni/Solita Carrera Lewis, Christina Blake Thorpe Lindsey Spaulding Marler, Dinah Marler Lewis, Cassie Layne Winslow (Laura Wright's version), and Alexandra Spaulding (Beverlee McKinsey's version).

5) Harley-one of the last great soap heroines 4) Holly-so versatile, could play anything, had chemistry with everyone3) Alexandra-I miss Beverlee everyday, one of the great vets.2) Maureen Bauer-not the best character, but the most influential. Her death forever ruined and changed GL. With her exit, the Bauer's went too.1) Roger- Zaz, you will be in our hearts forever.

you all made some great picks. you are so right about Maureen. The show never really recovered from killing her off.

In no particular order:Roger Thorpe: No one did villain as good as Mr. Z!Nola Reardon: OMG, her fantasy sequences were the best! And only Nola would arrive at her wedding on a firetruck, and depart from it in a balloon! The original Alan Spalding: No insult intended to the current Mr. S, but the original rivaled Roger in the menacing department.Sonni/Solita: Oooooooo, she was one of the best nutjobs! I so loved it when she turned up on STTNG to stir things up.Harley: One of the best heroines, and one of the best entrances of a character on a soap. LOL, nothing like giving birth in a car on your first day of filming.

Typical top 5 -1) Reva 2) Roger 3) Billy 4) Annie 5) Alan / Buzz (tie)'nuff said.Untypical top 5 - 1) Chelsea - loved her character, loved the stalker storyline, and she and Johnny are still one of my favorite GL couples.2) Rusty - he was just wonderful, and I loved him and Mindy together.3) Abligail - have never like anyone else with Rick, and (I've said it before and I'll say it again) the scene when she first heard the tissue coming out of the box made me bawl!4) Drew - tptb totally turned this spoiled rich girl around, I loved her with everyone, and she made me care about Ben.5) Lujack / Jim (tie) - the only men who made me think maybe Beth and Phillip weren't meant to be.This is a good post, and I could go on and on - it's hard to pick only five!
