Mala, I saw a rumor that Maddie is coming back (it didn't say which actress). Is there anything you can say about this? Probably not... lol
LOL. You know me well, Mark. I'd ask you to check out my interview with Lynn Herring in the issue on stands today, but I know you can't! She did bring up the Maddie issue. And what she says is pretty much all I know right now.
Quote:LOL. You know me well, Mark. I'd ask you to check out my interview with Lynn Herring in the issue on stands today, but I know you can't! She did bring up the Maddie issue. And what she says is pretty much all I know right now. If it's AC's Maddie that might be returning, then cool cause I need someone to erase the last visit from Maddie played by that one actress for a few episodes that was an epic fail for the character.Been spoilers around recently that a new girl in town will turn heads [of the younger set]. I am going to guess it's Teri and thus proving that only another white girl can pry the men under 30 away from Alison's spell. Yes, I am still pissed about Jade in minority closet. And I am angry at the subconscious statement TPTB are giving out. Mala, didn't JP give an interview several months about summer sweeps that Jade would have a storyline? When you next interview TPTB (or someone else at SOD/SOW) can you ask about the lack of diversity, not just with snubbing Jade, but all of the peripheral characters of color and why TPTB aren't including them in storylines but bringing on all these new characters? But in a nice way. Actually I am still rather cheesed off about the terribly written break-up of Derek and Bonnie. That should have been a triangle with Derek & Dusty fighting over Bonnie but I guess only one Black person on the canvas at a time. I guess my highlight will continue to be on shallow level regarding 2 of the cast members until TPTB straighten some things out. *sigh*
Quote:Hey, Noah is getting a new boyfriend so that's something, huh?And given that it's possible the show isn't bothering to give the boys their own place since Noah will be moving out in the next few months (if it takes that long) anyway to be with his new love Mason. They gotta save money where ever they can these days. Maybe they'll foot the bill for Nason's new place.I'm just thinking like the TPTB might. LOL I know your joking, but I have heard rumors that Noah does move in with Mason(because Luke has to move out for family reasons). I know he's his professor, but it's a soap! Maybe they will suddenly find a way to foot the bill then. Hey they have to have someway to have Luke to be on the outside looking in again. Seriously though, if they do that, that's not fair for the fans who have waited so long to see Nuke in their apartment.
Hey Mala:While the new official website for ATWT loads faster and I like the inclusion of a lot of actors on the show talking about their characters (though I got Meg when I went there... UGH!), where are the black actors/characters? The show has 4 that are recurring yet not a single one got asked to say something about their character? Seriously? And the show didn't just use contract actors for the site but also recurring actors so I have to wonder why they didn't think to add some color to that wheel? Any way you can ask about that and let me (us?) know? Thanks
I'm sure that they will add them but it looks like their not done adding people. I mean there are some contract actors missing too.
Speaking of the newly updated website, which is very awesome btw, if you guys haven't seen it yet, they uploaded photos of the photoshoot that Van, Jake, and Forbes took place in. If you look at those and compare them with photos of others on the site, you will see that Van, Jake, and Forbes all look like they are attending a funeral, yet most of the other actors are photographed smiling or having fun. It's bad enough that the show won't show them in bed, gives them almost no storylines, give them so little airtime, won't show their apartment or show them in bed, but they aren't even allowed to touch, smile, or appear as if they're having fun in their photoshoots? Really? They were able to do that in very early photos w/ Alex, and that one barn photo, but since then, all other photos released with the actors feature people looking completely bored.I wonder if these are direct orders from the people in charge of the show, or if the photographers the show uses are too scared to take photos of the actors smiling or touching each other? What do you people think? No matter what the reason, it's just yet another double standard.
Mala, Daytime Confidential is reporting that Josh Griffith is replacing Courtney Simon as a writer on ATWT. Can SOW/SOD confirm that yet? Also any idea when Maura will return to start taping again? I'm bored beyond belief without her on the show.
I agree the pictures looked...odd? I don't know why they never pose Luke and Noah looking like a couple.Yeah they won't show them in bed, I get it. But why won't they let us see them in their apartment. It doesn't have to even have a bedroom. It's so wrong because they are saying that Luke and Noah only see each other in their apartment these days and we don't see Luke and Noah in their apartment. Something is wrong with that. They need to show Luke and Noah looking like a couple and acting like a couple in their apartment before it all hits the fan.
Why is it that Holden's death is all about Lily, Damian, and Meg with a side of Faith thrown in? Why did they make a big deal about Luke not going with Holden to Kentucky if they weren't even going to focus on Luke at all. It seems like he'll just be an afterthought in the whole thing and Holden was his father.
Mala: Does the departure of Chauntee Schuler mean that TPTB are going to let Jade, Derek or Dallas out of minority closet?I mean, they keep bringing on all these new characters while not utilizing a lot of established ones, which is already criminal but I am flabbergasted why the canvas is being whitewashed. I thought CBS had a diversity initiative to add more color to all of their shows. Why is it not being put into effect on ATWT? What are your thoughts on this issue? Any scoop/thoughts about the diversity situation cause I look at OLTL actually broadening its Black family and it's shameful what ATWT is doing.
Mala love hearing your voice on WE Soaps Radio. you had great thing about everything on the different.
I'm SO behind on answering questions! So sorry, guys! WorldTurner - I think we did confirm that Courtney Simon got swapped out. It's been a while, but I remember reporting that in the mag.bonobochick - I wish I knew what to tell you. As much as I LOVE the focus on the Snyders, the Hughses, Barbara, and co, I, too, feel the lack of characters of color in Oakdale. I mean, not only are we missing Lily and Holden's daughter, Natalie, being told of his death, but what about Jade? I presume she's still in town somewhere! CodeNuke - Thank you! I get all self-conscious about talking. I'm much more at ease with writing!
I can understand why we didn't see a scene of them telling Natalie. Ellery Capshaw's dad died earlier this year, so scenes like that might be too difficult to play for such a young girl. That's probably also the reason why there's a different Natalie at Holden's funeral next week.Maybe Jade is having coffee with John Dixon and Ben Harris?

If I am not mistaken, Jade is still living at Lily's house. That's what makes it all so much worse to me. TMala, thanks for getting back to me and I hope that you'll soon be able to talk to Goutman, Passanante or Kreizman and ask them about the lack of color in Oakdale & if they have any plans for future storylines with Jade, Derek or Dallas. It's really unsettling how ignored those characters are but more white ones are being brought on. I really hope you'll get an answer if you're able to ask.Yet another reasons OLTL is the better soap at 2pm in NYC. They like diversity.
[voice-over] "The role of Michael Goldberg will now be played by Mala Bhattacharjee [/voice-over]LOL, I loved listening to you on the WeLoveSoaps podcast. And I just read your interview with AWZ's Igor Dolgatschew and Dennis Grabosch. I think it's great that you also give attention to international soaps. Like this interview, the one with Liz Hubbard about GTST and didn't you interview the actors from Verbotene Liebe as well? Anyway, the only thing I didn't like was the title of the interview. It's the same as this song from a Dutch band. I hate the song but now I can't get it out of my head.
Mala I was very happy to see the announcement that Lesli Kay is returning as Molly. I loved the cousins and thought Carly could use her cousin back in town. I hope she's here long term and not just a short time. Any idea when we can expect to see an interview with her? And if you talk to her, please let her know a lot of us are excited about her return! It's great to see casting announcements saying favorites are returning as opposed to another newbie joining the cast. That's definitely a major step in the right direction. I think they ought to send Teri packing an bring back Abigail instead.
Can we keep Teri and punt Alison or Meg for Abigail? Have TPTB cut one of those albatrosses loose.
I'm looking forward to seeing Molly again. I wonder if her coming back has anything to do with Holden. Will she be at the funeral? Maybe they could finally get Damian away from Meg and with Molly. I can't believe that Liberty is going to be at the funeral while Noah is going to be jetting off to L.A. to see Jude Law. How lame! Noah not being at the funeral because he has to meet Jude Law is inexcusable. Noah and Mason are going to be frolicking around the hotel room in their underwear I'm sure, which is going to make them look even worse.
the Jude Law premise is really dumb. I'd rather they make up a "famous actor" than throw a name around. Hope no one expects JL to appear on the show.If this is revealed to be a Lie Mason told in order to get Noah alone ,then it's another story. slghtly
The Jude Law premise is really cheesy. I don't buy that Noah would ever miss Holden's funeral, not for Jude Law, Tom Cruise, or Steven Speilberg. It's out of character for Noah to miss it. Holden is like Noah's father. II thought Noah wanted to be a director anyway, not a writer. Mason has been onscreen less than 3 minutes a week and now were supposed to buy that Noah has developing feelings for him? Even the Ameera storylline was more believable.
Mala I saw your opinion piece regarding Adam and the conflict with thinking he should pay for what he did to Gwen. Well here's my problem with the whole thing. When the story played out, nobody knew about what Adam did except Gwen, Will, Maddie, Casey, Jade and Adam. They made a deal that none of them would tell as long as he stayed away from Oakdale. There were no charges ever pressed. The only outstanding charges against him are for planting the bond in Will's cottage to make it look like he stole the bonds. I have a real problem that they are now pretending that everyone knew and that Gwen had pressed charges. I think it needed to be addressed but it could have been Casey who told about it now since Adam broke the deal and came back to Oakdale. And on Maddie's return will we hear again about how Maddie clubbed him on the head and she and Gwen buried him alive? Obviously Tom and Margo are unaware of that little detail.I'm really enjoying Tom Degnan so I hope somehow they work out this mess lol.
I think Tom Degnan is great, WT. He's got those big, expressive eyes and he really makes you feel for Adam. And that's why I wish this was being handled differently. The fact that everyone knows what happened, and Margo even had a throwaway line about Gwen being too scared to press charges, makes no sense.
And thanks, Mark. I'm so glad you liked the AWZ article and the WLS soaps podcast. It was fun to do. The guys are a blast!

Thanks for explainging that cause I thought what originally happened was much more complicated than how it is being written now (which isn't surprising for ATWT). The other thing, though... didn't Casey go to the slammer for violating his probation agreement about the petty theft and not the actual petty theft conviction? I know Casey keeps bringing that up and some others say that but I could have sworn that Casey went to prision for leaving the state and violating his agreement and not the actual petty theft crime.
Margo and Tom were actually working it out so Casey got a suspended sentence but in the meantime, Casey left town to find Maddie who had taken off with Gwen and Will. The reason Casey went to prison was because he took off when he was on house arrest. It wasn't because he stole the bonds. So it makes me nuts when people say Tom and Margo just let Casey go to prison. Well no they didn't. Had he not run, or in actuality had Zach not left the show, Casey would never have gone to prison so they did help Casey also.
Mala, many weeks before Forbes March debuted on ATWT, multiple different soap magazines had interviews with the actor. I think I saw 3 to 4 different interviews with the actor many weeks prior to his debut on the show. There was quite a bit of hype made of his arrival.Since Forbes debuted on the show over one and a half months ago, he has been in a total of approximately 15 minutes of screentime. I believe your interview(s) with the actor, along with his photoshoot, took up more time than 15 minutes.Do you have any insight the show would try and get Nuke fans all excited, antsy, and start anticipating this storyline when there honestly isn't a storyline? Why would they use soap magazines to try and sell a non-existent storyline? Why bother? It makes the interviews almost worthless and only serves to upset Nuke fans even more than they are normally upset. I'm very
that storyline does seem clunky....but they couldn't really promote Holden's possible death coming up , nor who exactly Judi Evans character would be. Maybe once that storyline progresses more, they'll weave in the" Noah & the Prof "thread in a little more obviously. Maybe ths is all meant to set up Luke to even more vulnerable /needy/on edge, so the Nuke relationship will have higher stakes/more tension , to use a little acting lingo ...
I just read at the MD board that its being said that Scott Holmes has been let go and that Justine Dees will be taking over the role of Tom Hughes!
Oh please I hope this isn't true for one thing SH is Tom Hughes to me and second of all what a slap in the face to SH after playing TH for 22 years!
How the heck can they replace TH? I hope it's not ture. We have been through many Margo's but they all worked out well, plus we can see the many Margo's on other soaps and Lifetime tv.
Well JD did play Tom back in 1983 for about 3 years. But to me SH is Tom.

I'm so glad you liked the AWZ article and the WLS soaps podcast. It was fun to do. The guys are a blast! So all it takes for an attempted rapist to be seen as sympathetic is big puppy dog eyes? Whatever kind of revelation he may have had in Iraq, Adam is still a criminal and he should go prison -I know he won't, but he should- and if he wasn't attractive I'd say it would be a safe bet some people wouldn't be so quick to forgive and forget his many crimes. Soaps are always crowing about how socially aware they are but time and time again they somehow manage to make heroes and even victims out of rapists. God, the biggest supercouple in soap history was a rapist and the woman he assaulted and I'll never understand why more women weren't insulted by how incredibly vile that was.
I'm the last person to feel sorry for a character that's a rapist pr attempted rapist. I noted that actor Tom Degnan has big puppy dog eyes, but I still want Adam to go to jail and pay for his reprehensible crimes. I haven't cut this story a free pass and never do where rape storylines on daytime are concerned.
I want them to find a way to redeem Adam and nope I don't forgive the attempted rape. However I still want to know what the heck happened to the sweet Adam that took off for CA and came back as an okay guy that suddenly went bonkers. I want the character redeemed because the writers went nuts and turned him into an attempted rapist which seemed totally out of character for the Adam we knew for years.Craig has done horrific things and so they bring on a newbie and say he's changed and so many forgive him and want him with the woman he tried to kill! Paul did awful things so they say he had a chip in his brain and all is forgiven. I just hope when Adam gets off of the charges which I'm sure he will, he'll show more remorse than either Craig or Paul have to date.I'm angrier at the writers who have beloved characters do these things without thinking long term about what it does to the character and in general the way women are often used and abused.
I hope Adam won't get away with it so easy with Maddie coming back.Speaking of Maddie. There's an error in the Maddie quiz. The right answer to question 8 isn't one of the given answers. According to the site it was a shovel that Maddie used to knock Adam out, but it actually was a tree branch.

This a very common problem with Jean Passanante's writing as well as the writing staff. It's sloppy, there's continuity errors and when she wants to, she just rewrites history.
The writers didn't just destroy Adam when he returned to Oakdale in 2006, they turned him into a monster. Yes, he was a very sweet kid before he left for California but the writers ruined that to prop up Gwen. Now, for me, there's no going back. I want him in jail. I can't just forget what he did no matter how many lame attempts the writers give me that he's changed.
And even though he's a veteran character who will never be punished for his crimes, I feel the same about Craig. Am I really supposed to buy that Carly or Rosanna would want to have ANYTHING to do with him after he put Rosanna in a coma for 2 years? Carly gets engaged to him and he and Rosanna kiss this week (according to the previews). Madness. Maybe they can re-consummate their relationship on the exact spot he ran her off the road. It...makes...no...sense.
That's one of the main reasons ATWT is doing so bad in the ratings, I believe. The writers complete disrespect for history and the viewers intelligence can only go so far before they abandon ship.

I don't necessarily even disbelieve he may have legitimately changed, but I don't think that Adam having a rush of humanity or self-awareness, or
Mala I just saw your blog about Nuke vs Kish and I have to both agree and disagree. I think they need to step it up and write better stories for Nuke. Let us see their interactions as a couple. They live together, but all their scenes are in Java. How can you take them seriously?
I don't think they overreacted to Mason sexually harassing Noah. If anything, they barely reacted to a serious crime committed by an abusive teacher. Mason is gross but he got let off the hook.
I don't think a triangle would make any sense at this point. Noah has not shown any interest in Mason at all, so for him to suddenly take him across his desk would have been out of character. I don't think the character of Mason is a viable love interest for Noah at all. He's creepy and manipulative and his "attraction" for Noah came out of the blue.
A few months ago, there were two or three interviews w/ Forbes March in the soap magazines to publicize another invisible Nuke storyline.Today, Forbes talked to TV Guide Canada w/ revelations regarding what is still going on behind the scenes at P&G w/ the way they're mistreating Nuke. I sincerely hope some in the soap press saw this interview and do a more in-depth follow-up as I'm sure their readers would find that much more interesting than the prior interviews that were somewhat about storyline that never happened. I think most fans would find this infinitely fascinating, but also very sad.
I'm late saying this Mala, but wanted to mention how much I enjoyed the interview with Maura West. I think it's been about a year and a half since anyone has really talked to her. Great interview. I'm glad she's so happy with this story. I'm loving it too.
Looks like Mason is leaving just when he was getting interesting. I liked his chemistry with Luke. There should have been more of a catfight. I have to say that I am genuinely shocked about the Lily/Damian/Noah spoiler. I did not see that coming. So are Luke and Noah going to be squicked out by each other now? Are they going to be fighting over which one gets the bigger and better Christmas presents?
Thanks, WorldTurner! I had a great time talking to her and she seems really enthused about being back and all the story we're in for.
And mandeemarshe, when I talked to Noelle Beck about that story, my reaction was pretty much, "Well, that's the Snyders for you!" They like to keep it in the family!
Yeah, that's just The Name Of The Game for the Synders....Mamma Mia.
Mala I certainly got the impression from the article that Maura was very excited about the story. I'm loving it! I'm so excited for the "cuz" reunion today. I know Maura and Lesli also enjoyed working together. And of course we know how much Maura and Michael love to work together. Any interviews with Michael coming soon?
Regarding the MISS in this weeks SOW about Nuke, I have to agree it's time to let them be PG13. But can't they get PG13 with each other before they get PG13 with others? And it seemed to me that they started to get a little bit when they were laying on the bed together the other day.And maybe it's just me, but I'm loving this Noah goes blind storyline so far. Van and Jake are doing the best work they have ever done before. I'm finding it to be better than the other storylines they have had.
Hello I have recenty started watching ATWT I have to say I am very impressed,I an a gay man so It is refreshing to see Luke and Noah front and center, this show dont shy away from the gay culture. For that I thank them,I believe the Nuke has a real ositive meassage.I have went back a watched all previous episodes to catch up,I hope luke and Noah make it thru this as a couple I also love Lukes parents all 3 of them.I hear they may canel this show I believe this would be a error to do so thanks a big fan
Mala, it looks like the show is sending Noah off to rehab for some ungodly reason. Do you have any idea how long Noah is going to be gone for and when he is coming back?
Silly me for actually thinking they were going to go somewhere with this storyline. Next time I'll have to learn when the show is danging that carrot in my face again.
Just saw your latest column about Nuke, and surprise, surprise! You think they're boring & they need a third party! Yep, never heard that from you before... Mala, Nuke bores you because you don't care about them. They're just another couple on a soap to you. I'd like to see their stories amped up and become more substantial too, but that doesn't have to mean a triangle or yet another break up. The airtime is pathetic and I'd just about kill for them to have a real love scene, but true Nuke fans are about more than just that, and we like that Luke and Noah are loving and committed to each other, and if or when that changes a lot of us will hit the road, but as of now it's two and a half years later and Nuke and their fans are still here in spite of the almost complete lack of support & attention from the soap press. Just because you're missing anything positive in the pairing doesn't mean it isn't there, but it became clear some time ago that you don't have much genuine interest or objectivity when it comes to this couple.I wonder if you could bring yourself to focus on anything good about Nuke? I've never seen you acknowledge the large community of fans brought together because they have been positively affected by the story of Luke and Noah. I've never seen you mention the literally hundreds of thousands of dollars raised by fans of Jake Silbermann and Van Hansis for various charities. And of course no mention from you of the recent fan event in Paris that was entirely organized and paid for by Nuke fans in a country in which the show doesn't even air. Oh, and again the proceeds from the auctions and raffles went to charity. Pretty impressive for a couple that according to some haters in the soap press has an inexplicable and undeserved popularity.Luke and Noah, and Van Hansis & Jake Silbermann, have come to mean a great deal to a large and dedicated fanbase, and we let the TPTB know we're here, but you don't have to get it, because ultimately that means more than the perpetual negative chatter coming from soap journalists ever will.
The real issue for Nuke isn't that they are boring. The issue is that the writers don't give a damn about writing for them. They had the potential for a meaty story with Noah going blind(and it was for 4 episodes), but they decided to take the easy way out and ship him off indefinitely to rehab instead. The show just let a good story die and two good actors go to waste. I guess since sweeps are over, they don't feel obligated to write for them anymore and can continue to write stories to get Meg stripping in any way possible. As long as Luke and Noah continue to be token sweeps characters a few months of the year and prop only characters the rest of the year, they will not be winning any fans. .
I don't know where this talk of Jake Silbermann getting shipped off indefinitely is coming from! Noah will definitely be back sooner than you think, mandeemarshe. (I guess it's a long distance outpatient clinic. LOL.)
And I don't mean January!
