Quote:Mala I saw the article about Casey's birthday party and I'm curious if Billy or anyone remembered that Casey should actually be turning 22? He was a bartender a year ago meaning he should have been 21 and also when Emily bought champagne for them she verified that he was legal. I think Margo may have actually mentioned him being 21 once also. Are we supposed to forget that lol? Yep. That was cringe worthy. I chalk it up to pure laziness on the writers part. I often joke that if the writers are too lazy to research things that happened ON THEIR OWN SHOW the last few years, then I'll gladly give them my cell phone number, they call me and I'll tell them everything they need to know. At least then history would be respected. The continuity on this show is a major weakness.
To me it's really an insult to the viewers when they screw up like that and they seem to take us for fools and think we won't notice. It's not like they had to research what other writers did. Good heavens, they were the ones that wrote the story! That's just sloppy writing. And then they had Casey get trashed at his party when he still wasn't even 21. They said they were having the party early.
Mala I enjoyed seeing you give the show a "Miss" on the extremely biased writing that painted Craig in such a positive light and destroyed Dusty. It was ridiculous to write it that way. The only thing is it makes me root for Dusty more and loathe Craig more.
Personally I think Dusty and Craig both need a rest. Or I need a break from them. I'm really sick of both of them.
Quote:Personally I think Dusty and Craig both need a rest. Or I need a break from them. I'm really sick of both of them. I couldn't agree more...they can also take Paul and Meg with them on that long deserved break.
Thanks, WorldTurner. Glad you liked the Miss. I enjoy both Craig and Dusty, but the writing leading up to Johnny's custody case really did Dusty no favors! Also, re: Casey's birthday... soap fans have the luxury of remembering every single detail of something that aired. Soap creators, who have to keep track of canon from not just 52 weeks a year but decades worth of story, have a pretty intense task. The fact that ATWT still gets a lot more right historically than other shows is what I tend to hold on to.
According to his Twitter, singer/songwriter Jay Brannan is right now at an audition for ATWT. Do you think this is for the role of Zac (one of the twins) or have those roles already been cast and is this probably for a different role?
Good question, Mark! I'll look into it. (And why is everyone suddenly on Twitter?)
I'm not on Twitter! This was the first time I even heard of it, LOL!BTW, I think Jay Brannan auditioned for a different role. Jason Etter (Java Jeff) told me he filmed a scene with Luke and Zoe so I think Zac, like Zoe, was already cast when Jay auditioned.
I think the role Jay auditioned for was a straight character.BTW, Mala, do you know anything about these twins Zac and Zoe that have been cast (other than the actor that plays Zac is smoking hot -- look out Noah!)? They'll be here at month's end..... have you had a chance to talk to them.... or will you soon?
It WAS for a straight role. That's what he told a fan during a live chat.
I don't know much about Zac and Zoe yet, but only time will tell whether this newbie infusion will be a blast or a bust!
I'll bet the members of ABBA are on Twitter.
Well, let's hope it's a blast cause I think we're going to be seeing ALOT of these newbies in the next few months. You know, I live alone and I can't recall the last time I stripped down in my kitchen or living room. But apparently the ladies of Oakdale have no such problems, even with someone else watching or that anyone (including children) could walk in and get an eyeful (and in the case of Meg, and then some). That said, those are some hot, hot ladies.
My colleague Joe and I actually e-mailed each other during the episode about that scene, Anthony. We were cracking up. I love how forty bajillion people live in the farm, but it only has a kitchen and a porch, so of course Meg has to change standing by the kitchen table! And who doesn't do that in their daily life, right? LOL.
Mala and LuthersCorners you were needed last night on AI. Somebody sang an ABBA song and I think it was Paula that didn't know the correct pronunciation of their name Mala I notice that Cady won't be airing for another 2 months after she starts taping. Is the whole show taping that far in advance now? I know for awhile they were just 4-6 weeks out. I know sometimes they tape out of order. Do you expect to have any interviews with her soon or will we have to wait until close to the time she airs?
It seems as if they might be about 2 months ahead of taping, because (1) Cady's first airdate has been given as May 20th, and (2) Cady said in the announcement this week that she starts taping "in 2 weeks", which is mid March....so her first scenes tape in mid March, and air in mid May, according to the info out there anyway.
So are we supposed to like and cheer for the fact that Dusty and Lucy are scheming to steal Johnny away from his father AGAIN? I'm puzzled as to why these two hypocrites and liars would make better parents than Craig, who has done NOTHING to hurt Johnny while Lucy and Dusty have or planned to kidnap the child and are now teaching him to lie to his father. Craig is no saint to be sure, but in this battle, I know who I'm rooting for. Lucy said yesterday that she and Dusty have no rights to this child, which is the smartest thing anybody has said in this entire storyline. Maybe she and Dusty should have their own kids instead of stealing someone else's
I think the problem is that the producers/writers has reported, don't engage in what the viewers believe. I think ultimately they still think Dusty is the good guy and Craig is the bad guy. BEFORE JonL took over, I bet most wanted Johnny with Dusty. So awkward right?
Quote:You know, I live alone and I can't recall the last time I stripped down in my kitchen or living room. I also live alone, AnthonyL, so in the spirit of Meg on ATWT I resolved to get dressed in my kitchen this morning -- but it was so cold that I decided to wait until summer to try it.
I just read the feature story on gay characters on soaps."ATWT's Lucas and Noah (Nuke) are currently one of daytime's most popular couples."I didn't know Noah had a new boyfriend? It's kind of funny because Lucas (Sanders) is a character on a Dutch soap that they are casting right now. That character is also going to be gay.
Whoops! Thanks for catching that, Mark. I notified the correct people to get that fixed. As to the question about Cady and filming asked a few posts higher, at this point, I'm pretty sure ATWT is far in advance. Plus, there's all the shooting out of order because the location shoots tend to happen whenever they can be scheduled, rather than in linear order.
Mmph! Only this show could take two sexy and talented actors with a lot of chemistry and make their first sex scene together seem icky and unromantic. Yuck! And Jack and Janet having sex in an open field? In the snow where anyone could walk by? I'll bet Jack could really see Janet's tips in that case.....
It was just a tad bit brisk out for sexcapades. LOL.
So a landlord is going to discriminate against Luke and Noah... I wonder if this means they're looking for an apartment (which wouldn't make any sense after that conversation they had a couple of weeks ago). Mala, I guess you can't comment on this, right?
Nope! I sure can't!
Maybe they're renting space for their vintage ABBA record collection?
OK....now I know...this has to be it! Uhh...Luke and Noah want space for their ABBA record collection (not to mention the CD's the cassettes, and the rare 8 tracks) but the landlord is biased against them because they like ABBA, who are from Sweden, and Vienna broke his heart once, long ago. This has to be it
LOL! You know, I think I would actually watch that storyline, LC. And you're very lucky I wasn't drinking coffee when I read your post because you'd owe Weekly a new monitor!
Too bad, I would have bought you the most expensive, large screen one there is
An apartment would be too awesome for words. But that would require a new set. And I don't see the show giving a set to a couple of characters that are so rarely featured. If only the show had access to dozens and dozens of sets like they did back in 2006 when the budget wasn't such a problem.
I don't care about the interview with Meg, but Dusty and Meg and Parker and Liberty are on the cover of SOD. Does anyone give a hoot about those two couples? They are ruining ATWT for me. I also would like to see a story about why 4 or 5 characters seem to be on every single day while popular fan favorites (like Luke and Noah) and beloved vets are shoved to the side constantly.

I don't think anybody is wanting too much. My expectations are now non existent. They gave Brad and Katie their own set even though Nuke was a couple longer than they were. Bratie are now married and trying to have kids.
Isn't there a separate thread for Luke and Noah discussion that we're supposed to keep this type thing in? And as for me, I've always viewed SOD/SOW as promotional type magazines, that I can pick up to read feature articles about what and who are onscreen, and the interesting details about the stories and the actors.....as opposed to a political platform to air grievances and criticisms. Just me though. I wouldn't want to read the magazines if they spent all their time just putting down the shows and trying to say what's wrong with them. I don't view this as their purpose.
We have an obligation to write about what ATWT is doing in any particular week, RogerRoks, and ATWT has Meg on the front burner a lot, ergo the stories. With all due respect, this is a lame excuse. You are

Quote:Isn't there a separate thread for Luke and Noah discussion that we're supposed to keep this type thing in? Yes, there is a dedicated Nuke thread...
Jeez, I go away for a couple of days and, as usual, everyone gets rowdy. What Joe MEANT to say is that we feature major stories of the week or focus on a character who has a lot to do or a finger in a lot of pies. That particular week happened to have some significant plot occurrences for Meg/Dusty/Paul, etc. and also for Parker and Liberty. Events that move a relationship forward or change it significantly tend to trump an ongoing arc where nothing "happens," regardless of who is involved. That doesn't mean we have a bias. That means we're covering what's going on. And the second/third tier plots for the week all get covered in our Sneak Peeks teasers.
So Mala, since Luke will have significant plot occurrences next week (car accident, bio-daddy coming back) can we expect the same kind of coverage for Luke?
If we Nuke fans in particular seem frustrated, it's because Nuke has never, and I mean never, gotten a cover or even a small inset/blurb on the cover of SOD in the almost two years since Noah arrived in Oakdale (and I know you work for SOW, so I'm not directing this comment at you personally).
Despite their very limited airtime, I think it's safe to say that even Nuke has had some significant plot occurrences in their relationship in that time (Noah's father trying to murder Luke, Luke's paralysis, a couple of break ups, Nuke having sex for the first time earlier this year just to name a few). We are talking about arguably one of, if not the most popular couple on the show, the first significant gay couple on daytime who have made national headlines over the last year.
If we fans are confused and frustrated, IMO, we have reason to be...
Quote:So Mala, since Luke will have significant plot occurrences next week (car accident, bio-daddy coming back) can we expect the same kind of coverage for Luke? I'm guessing whatever happens with Luke is more about Holden, Lily, and Damian. As usual, Luke is just the catalyst for other events and characters and will be ignored later as it has always been.
Well, considering Lily, Damian, and Holden are all veteran characters on the show, one would hope what happens with Luke is about them, too. And, yes, there is coverage of that story coming up.
I'll be looking forward to the coverage then! And I think you're right Mala. The story should be about all of them. Luke, Noah, Damian, Lily AND Holden. Luke and Noah shouldn't be background characters in the story and neither should the others. Multi-generational storylines are my favorite. It was so good to have Lucinda back last week.
Mala do you have any interviews coming up with Michael Park? He's been strangely quiet for some time now. I know he said everybody would be acting out of character in this current story and they certainly are but I would love to hear more of his thoughts on what is happening. And if you do talk to him soon, please let him know he was phenomenal yesterday as were Maura and Mick and I expect more of the same today. Finally a story on ATWT has caught my interest again!
I just read your newest 'The Soapbox' commentary in the March 31 SOW. You hit alot of what you said right on the mark.
My two cents would be just to elaborate on how stories seem very 'unfinished', and I'm going to use my favorites as an example. My complaints are in no way limited to just this storyline though.
One instance is I'm pretty disappointed the show took the route of having Dusty and Meg really take a turn towards romance, when Paul was so paranoid about this as of when Dusty first returned. In a way, it showed Paul was 'justified' in his paranoia that destroyed his marriage in the first place. I would have loved to have seen Paul realize he was wrong the whole time.
I think they also miss the boat on important 'real' issues that could be explored further. Like, last year when Paul had his breakdown, would have been a perfect opportunity to delve into why Paul is the way he is (mostly the way he was brought up). But they just use those storylines as plots rather then exploring real issues anymore. Why couldn't we see Paul go through therapy? Roger Howarth would knock scenes like those out of the park, IMO.
Sometimes you get that feeling that things are being changed midstream or last minute with no real direction or ultimate goal.

Not being rude, just telling the truth.Mala's weekly Meg & Maul pimping are by now totally expected on a weekly basis, to ATWT readers. This week it is in the soapbox (followed by a snap) and since you "try" not to be TOO obvious, with the weekly interviews with Marie Wilson, you decided to interview Lucy. Even thought it was a Lucy interview, half of the questions were about Meg. And while I'm mentioning soapbox- both Dusty & Meg have just as much, (if not more) air time than Craig, yet you conveniently ignore that stat. Give the readers some credit- we are not blind, or stupid!
Mala:I would love to know what the vibe is regarding the Alison/Casey pairing cause I don't get it and I think it drags both characters down to the point of being unwatchable when together. What is the feedback/opinions that SOD & SOW has been getting on this pairing? Also, CBS has a diversity initiative in place but ATWT is still not writing for the few minority characters on the show. Have you heard about anything coming up that will incorporate the minority characters into current storylines or give them a major storyline of their own?
Mala, do you know if there will be a fourth series of InTurn? I didn't really liked the characters that came out of it (Elwood, Evan and Spencer) but I did enjoy seeing the auditions and seeing the actors from ATWT as judges.
