I think it was clever of the show to basically set up all the ingredients for a murder mystery and then leave them alone. Viewers could spend weeks wondering what was going to happen (especially unspoiled ones, who must still wonder if Carolyn will ever come back!) and it sent everyone off in completely the wrong direction, so that the ending that should have been considered inevitable (Brian realizes and accepts that he's gay) is instead seen as a twist!
Quote:Which is why I said it seemed like child molesting, not that it was. I specifically told people on the board I run to stop tossing around the word pedophile because I agree that it's too loaded. But while child molesting isn't an accurate description (because despite TPTB not letting Luke do what adults do [yet--I remain hopeful], he IS an adult), I contend that it's an accurate thing to compare Brian's behavior to. Luke was drunk, rendered child-like in his reactions and acting childish in allowing Brian to comfort him, when Brian kissed him. And Brian played on the same fears (you'll upset mommy/daddy/grandma if you tell) that child molesters use on their prey to keep them quiet. I have to disagree, Richard. While one adult took advantage of another adult who had diminished capacity, I think it's sufficient to compare it to a sexual assault in general. Brian used his position of power over a less-powerful person to win Luke's silence. Linking it to child molestation is inaccurate and could be seen as inflammatory, since there were no children involved. Sexual predation of adults is serious enough by itself.
I don't want to keep belaboring the point, but I would disagree that Brian was in a position of power. Luke had equal power over him when it came to outing him and torpedo=ing his relationship with Lucinda and CHOSE not to wield that power, partially to protect Lucinda but also to protect his own questionable behavior while drinking underage. It was a hinky situation for sure, but there are worse cases in daytime that hint at sexual predation than what transpired between Brian and Luke.
I don't think Luke saw it that way--Brian's denials in November implied both that it didn't really happen the way Luke remembered and that since Luke was drunk, no one would believe Luke if he told. Which made what Brian did a creepy, unwanted advance that Luke couldn't tell anyone about. I'd call it sexual harassment but Luke is supposed to be Brian's boss!Anyway, I will never use the words "child" or "molest" here again, I promise!
Mala:One point about your interview... I remember when this all started, you and I both hoped that Luke would retain some of his bad boy ways even after this arc was over and I was pleased to read that Luke will still be up to no good. I won't bother asking what that means, but I can't wait to find out!And I love how people are obscessed with the ice cream, especially since it's not Luke and Noah eating the ice cream.
Mala, have you seen the sneak peek scene for Monday?I know you said if the boys were going to have sex it would be a big deal in the magazines...but is it possible it's going to happen in a few days? Because they look like they're about to have sex right there in Old Town.
Mala I completely agree with your comments on "happy couples" in the current SOW and it's what many of us have been saying in regards to CarJack for a long time. They aren't the most interesting when they are dealing with roadblocks like Janet or Craig or when they are fighting all the time. It's when they put aside all their differences and work together as a team. Things like Carly rescuing Jack from James, proving Parker's innocence in the Sam murder trial, finding a kidnapped JJ and on and on all could have worked as well or better if they were working as a couple in love. That's what the majority means when we say happy. It's happy with each other but certainly not peace in their lives. Just let somebody else create the angst. These repetitious plot devices to keep them apart are what is long past boring and is what is making many of us tune out unfortunately. Too bad writers don't get that.
I don't think there was anything in any of the magazines about sex, was there? I think I would have heard about that. So either A) it's not going to happen or B) Mala and perhaps a few others at SOW might be throwing things at their tv sets in their offices on Monday as they scream, "Why didn't you tell us in advance - for the SECOND time!" I would find option B) quite humorous, but I doubt Mala and others at the magazine would.
ROTFL.NOW you all know why I was visiting all the other threads on the forums and answering questions, except for the ones in here.
I was wondering where you were, Mala. I haven't seen it yet, BUT I CAN'T WAIT!!!Were the magazines not allowed to give this spoiler away or something?
If you knew in advance, Mala, does that mean there will be something in this week's magazines about it? Kind of a big deal...Man, what a wonderful day this is.
The super hotness made up for the super lameness of Noah and Luke both saying, "Leave me alone!" to their respective scene partners just as they ran into each other in Old(e) Town(e). I was like, "Eek! High school play!" But, then...wowza! And I love that Jade declared it "hot" whilst Casey was pleased but a bit squirmy because I think that's a very realistic reaction. All in all...finally!
Of COURSE Jade would think it was hot. Women love the boy kissing! Almost as much as the boys do! LOL!
Shortest sex scene ever! So much so that I saw people on other boards didn't even realize that the boys had sex. I'm not sure how they didn't get that, though.Considering all the delay and buildup, I am torn about today's episode. While I'm glad the deed is finally done, I think it was too rushed and the scenes were too short and we never even saw a bed, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I'll be happy w/ what I saw today if this actually isn't the last time the guys actually do it. At least we get to see 15 year old Parker in bed again soon, I think.
I thought both their reactions were great. Jade's reaction reminded me of a lot of women I know and love...
And I thought Casey's was exactly the reaction I wish every straight guy had. I get it if he doesn't want to watch--but he was still SO happy that they were back together! Also, a great message to those who may not have liked what happened today: if you don't like it, cover your eyes. Don't ruin it for everyone else.
EDIT: There was definitely a bed--and it looked well-used! We just didn't see them in it. Maybe next time!
But we did see a bed, complete with VERY rumpled sheets. It was in the frame for most of the scene.
Yep, sorry, I just re-watched and saw the bed!It was only there for a second, but it was there. I hope you're right, Richard, about there being a next time. It would be great if the show doesn't look at this as a one time thing, but instead does feature it when the storyline dictates that it should happen as a natural progression of things.
Okay. Y'all happy now? LOL. Can I never hear the "Luke and Noah haven't had sex yet and Parker and Liberty have!" argument AGAIN?Casey's reaction made me laugh. Jade's made me go, "Wait a second, that's your COUSIN kissing someone you're drooling over. EW!" Then again, Jade's kissed that cousin herself...so what does it matter?
So, Mala, will there be something about this in this week's SOW? Maybe the Van and Jake's thoughts on this development in Luke and Noah's relationship?
No, but you can hear me say, "Darn, if CBS was basically almost spoiling it w/ the teaser the released last week, as many people had many placed on today as being the day after seeing that, it's too bad the show didn't spoil it w/ the soap press as it would have been great to see a Luke & Noah cover out of this." But I honestly didn't think this would be spoiled, just like the Parker/Liberty sex scene, I don't think, was spoiled.I do still wonder if anyone at SOW isn't quite that happy that they didn't get the opportunity to tease this at all.
I'm glad that the show didn't release the information about Noah and Luke finally making love to anyone. It was a nice big surprise. Now, I expect to see the show and the soap press dealing with numerous questions of when is the NEXT TIME the couple will be able to do it again on screen.
It would be nice of CBS to actually mention that this much anticipated and historical event actually occurred in their recap. Anyone that didn't watch the show yesterday and read the recap at CBS would never know that Luke and Noah consummated their relationship.A major event for this couple, that was built up by TPTB and it was mysteriously withheld from the soap mags, omitted from various spoilers and omitted from the recap... I could understand it being missing from the mags spoilers so it would be a surprise (though I doubt ATWT would put that much extra effort for this storyline) but the fact that mention of this was omitted from all three indicates to me that someone at ATWT is too ashamed/against this storyline to promote it like they do other storylines.
James, I don't think it's an indicator of shame. If ATWT was ashamed of Luke and Noah or against them, there wouldn't BE a Luke and Noah. They wouldn't have brought in Brian, there wouldn't be recurring characters like Reg, etc. ATWT didn't have to have gay characters on their show, but they committed to the decision and have continued to tell Luke's story. The show wanted the sex to be a surprise -- and it was! Which is pretty cool.DMR - If I have to start fielding questions about the NEXT love scene, I'm going to develop premature grey hairs!
Yeah, but you'd probably look LOVELY with salt and pepper hair. Quote:DMR - If I have to start fielding questions about the NEXT love scene, I'm going to develop premature grey hairs!
So Mala... Any idea when the next love scene is? It's already been what? 23 Hours? LOL, Just kidding. I'm excited about their fun and lighter murder mystery/amateur detectives story involving Casey, Ali, Reg, Kevin and Matt.
Hhahahahah.Someone had to be the first one to do it!! Quote:So Mala... Any idea when the next love scene is? It's already been what? 23 Hours? LOL, Just kidding. I'm excited about their fun and lighter murder mystery/amateur detectives story involving Casey, Ali, Reg, Kevin and Matt.

The show wanted the sex to be a surprise -- and it was! Which is pretty cool. Sorry Mala, we will have to disagree on this. ATWT's track record with Luke and Noah doesn't afford them that much benefit of doubt as far as I'm concerned. I do think that the evidence suggests that there is a mixture of supportive and unsupportive parties amongst TPTB as far as this storyline is concerned. Clearly there is some support for the couple or they would not be on the show beyond the three months that was originally planned for Noah. But, it is also just as obvious that someone is doing their best to restrain the storyline behind the scenes and I think the majority of 2008 is proof of that.
I don't understand how having the fortitude to listen to the fans, and depict Luke and Noah acting as a real couple - a first on daytime television - is showing restraint. I have read complaints about what they DIDN'T show - but who's to say this is the only time this will ever happen? Who's to say that next time, they might just push the envelope a lttle further? Every single aspect of Luke and Noah's story, from the very beginning, has progressed slowly and carefully, and with each step, the negative backlash from the conservative audience has been less and less. So far this time,, there seems to be little to no such backlash at all. Sounds to me as if the show's long term commitment (almost two years so far) to not only tell this story, but tell it in such a way that the largest majority of their total audience can find something of value in it...is working. They're still on the show, they're not going anywhere, their airtime has increased of late, and we have seen inklings and hints of their next TWO stories to come, after this one - maybe even the third after that. Not to mention the all-out pride episode this July with the likes of Cyndi Lauper. It's just my opinion alone, but I don't sense any shame at all on the part of a show that would do all of this, and show no signs of wanting to end anything.
Thank you, LuthersCorners. Fantastic points.
i so agree with this... and like Mala said too. the show is going with the story of Luke and Noah they could of been off a long time ago but they are not.. it's the fan of the couple that help get them more airtime and now we got maybe three story lined up right now..
Quote:So Mala... Any idea when the next love scene is? It's already been what? 23 Hours? Is that what that video up at CBS.com is about???? You mean, they've shot it and are teasing it already???Oh, wait, never mind! That's what already aired! Boo! You got my hopes up. Well back to Mark's question then I suppose right? In my opinion, as long as they do it again before Liberty and Parker, I'll be happy. HAHA!
Next time they may make love I think around Feb. 14. It took them this long for the first time. I say this we don't know what is going on behind closed doors at P&G so we need to show support write the Mag. and the show show your support don't take it for granted every thing is ok don't do like the first kiss things may of gone on we don't know so make sure to write SOW & SOD and the others show your support.Thank you Mala for all you do and get for us the fans.Ron
You're welcome, Ron!

Exactly Ron, this is why Luke and Noah fans should continue forward with cautious optimism. While it is great that Luke and Noah (Noah in particular) are getting more airtime and their relationship finally apears to be advancing after a year of stagnation, this could easily turn into a repeat of the kiss ban if TPTB think they are now off the hook for showing physical intimacy with this couple. Fans do need to continue to show support for the couple by giving praise to ATWT when it is deserved and being critical when it's justified. It seems that TPTB have hopefully turned a new page with this couple, but there are still some problems that stand out. One big one is that inspite of all the improvements, ATWT seems to want to keep the couple and the story semi-closeted by having these secret moments and not promoting them or the storyline with the soap press in the sam manner that they do other couples. First of all, this is not fair to Van and Jake as actors. They have done an exceptional job and they deserve to have their storyline promoted and the exposure that scoring SOW & SOD covers would get them and the show. Videos posted on the atwt.net and cbs.com sites only reach a small percentage of viewers and even less potential viewers. Most of those that seek those out are already devoted fans. That doesn't even remotely compare to cover space on SOD & SOW where many viewers and non-viewers will catch a glimpse. ATWT needs to step out of the box and allow promotion outside this safe zone of existing fans and be proud of what they have with Luke and Noah and quit worring so much about what the likes of the AFA think. They've already been down that road for reasons other than Nuke/ATWT and the AFA may make a lot of noise, but they have been quite ineffective in their campaigns.
ATWT rarely gets cover space unfortunately for either SOD or SOW. It's not just Luke and Noah. In fact I think Luke may have been the most recent character to even get on one of the covers.

Exactly, and ATWT/TeleNext trashed the opportunity for both the show and for Nuke to get on the cover. Soap Opera Digest and Soap Opera Weekly
Quote:Okay. Y'all happy now? LOL. Can I never hear the "Luke and Noah haven't had sex yet and Parker and Liberty have!" argument AGAIN? We'll see. The show still had the teenage cousins go to bed with each other less than 3 months after meeting each other compared to Luke and Noah having to wait 514 days after meeting each other...the double standard will always be there with that annoying fact. But as long as the boys can continue to have a loving relationship that includes sex like any other couple, we'll focus more on that and less on Parker and Liberty who, frankly, make me want to throw things whenever they're on screen anyway.
I hope some thing gets wrote up about Luke and Noah making love in next weeks SOW and SOD

I agree. Actually Parker and Liberty had another bedroom scene today, in which they were making out on a bed. As long as Luke and Noah get some more bedroom scenes, I won't complain about Parker and Liberty. But if Parker and Liberty continue to get bedroom scenes and Luke and Noah continue to only refer to their love life, I won't like that. I know I just want to see happiness and romance for Luke and Noah. I don't just want to hear about it.
MalaDo you know when Kevin will be back I know in Feb.Ron
Happy Inauguration Day, everyone.Mala, have you heard anything about ATWT extending Larry Lau another opportunity to come back to Oakdale in 2009? I've come across a couple of spoilers/foilers and I wanted to know if you (as an insider) have heard anything from TPTB.Thanks
I just read congratulations are in order for Maura West...baby number 5 on the way. If I was able to snap back in shape the way she does after giving birth I might have kept going too!!!! But I'm a little disappointed to read that it won't be written in because there are a couple of explosive storyline possiblities...either Carly and Craig make a baby, which could have so many crazy after shocks OR Carly and Jack have a one-nighter that ends up bringing them back together when she gets pregnant.
MalaI would like to thank SOW for at least having some thing about Luke and Noah making love on Jan. 12 and nothing in SOD was wrote.Ron
Mala, I could not agree with you more regarding the obvious fact that the show isn't going to make the Casey/Ali/Matt triangle (or quad if you add Jade) a real one, but make them spoilers for Casey and Ali who while I like both characters (and I love Billy), they don't work as a couple. Why are they ignoring that Matt and Jade are both appealing and interesting characters who are more than just roadblocks for Casey and Ali. Ali and Matt actually do have chemistry and I like Jade and Casey as well. I'd also like to see if Jade and Matt click. Of course I like your idea of a bisexual angle myself. Let Matt and Casey hook up and leave Ali as the odd man (or girl) out. Then how about a Matt/Casey/Luke triangle (or quad if you add Noah, just so the Noah fans don't yell at me)? Oh the possibilities!
Ron - You're welcome.AnthonyL - Glad you liked my odd little observations. After today's episode, I'm even more convinced of the potential for Matt in story. And I actually like Casey and Jade together, too.
Mala, as you probably know there is a special Valentine episode coming soon. ATWT.net released six pics (Meg, Paul, Dusty, Craig, Barbara, Bob, Jack, Carly, Parker and Liberty). Will the rest of the cast be involved in this episode too? I'd really like to know, as a fan of the couple, if Nuke is in that episode too.Still wondering about what happened to that Nancy/Helen Wagner episode...
I am thoroughly disgusted that they put this effort into a cheesy Valentine's show but couldn't bother to do a tribute to Helen Wagner. Even if Helen wasn't well enough to do, they could have done the tribute without her. She deserves it. It shows the priorities of the show
Hey Mala! Any chance of an interview with Paolo Seganti in the coming weeks to preface Damien's return to Oakdale?
If Nuke are actually in the episode, then those photos will probably be released soon. Maybe by the end of this week or on Monday, but that's just my guess.Maybe TPTB like to keep the Nuke fans in suspense? They know that someone will pester them until an answer is given.Quote:Mala, as you probably know there is a special Valentine episode coming soon. Mala I saw the article about Casey's birthday party and I'm curious if Billy or anyone remembered that Casey should actually be turning 22? He was a bartender a year ago meaning he should have been 21 and also when Emily bought champagne for them she verified that he was legal. I think Margo may have actually mentioned him being 21 once also. Are we supposed to forget that lol?
