Can this character be saved? Who else in town can she possibly be romantically linked with? There aren't any leading men I can see her with. Jack? Ryan?

I don't see saving Liza for three reasons..
First and foremost, this is not Liza and no one could even think she was LIza.
Second, she started off on such a wrong note and was written so terribly from the get-go, I don't think that many people care.
Third..there are very few leading men who can play the romantic hero on the show right now as it is..for ANYONE, let alone a unpopular character. Along with new writers, the casting department could use a little help..they have hired too many non-actors that appeal to few.
It's sad..because I am sitting here and I can't think of one man on AMC at this time except for Adam (and he already taped his last scene) who could ever be considering a romantic leading man. David is too much of a villain to be placed in the hero category, Jake is kinda wishy washy at best, Tad has been jerked around between so many women, it's hard to see him with anyone anymore, and Zach..the true leading man.. is not on the show at the moment. Ryan is not even worth my time to mention...and the biggest mistake AMC has ever made in thinking he can fill this bill. Not only he is not up to the challange of romantic leading man that can carry a storyline - being paired with Ryan has proven to be the kiss of death.
There aren't enough men on the show to begin with. This show is way too newby heavy, which means there are no Leading roles...Period. It is a show full of Supporting Characters...with the exception of Erica, Angie, Kendall, Jackson, Tad & Jesse.
I totally agree. They really need some men 28-40 because there isn't anyone that is worth watching.
Quote:Can this character be saved? Who else in town can she possibly be romantically linked with? There aren't any leading men I can see her with. Jack? Ryan? No they need to cut their losses and write her out. She's horribly miscast. Her reintroduction into PV was crude and a poor choice in writing. She doesn't fit in anywhere. They have changed her personality twice. They have tried her with Zach a huge, huge mistake. David, it didn't work; Tad, it didn't work. There's no where else for this character to go but out of town. With the return of Jack and the show actually showing Jack setting up an office, I have high hopes this character is gone after the David trial is over. And to that I would say good riddance! Once she's gone, they have three others to get rid of, Annie, Greenlee and Ryan. then maybe I and a lot of others would watch again.
"Can this character be saved?"Yes, just re-cast the role. I still like the idea of Mary Beth Evans playing Liza. And I can see her with Tad.
Mary Beth is an intriguing choice although I would pretty much prefer her as Kayla over at DOOL. But I am with you, I think she could make it work. She is the right age and has just the right temperament to pull it off. Plus, she played Katherine Bell brilliantly over at GH. In fact, one of the more boneheaded choices of TPTB was getting rid of that character. I think if they would stop writing David the way they are writing him now, that could be a viable pairing. Just don't put her back with Tad. That ship has sailed. Maybe they could bring back Cliff and Nina and revisit the Cliff/Liza relationship. Excellent way to reintroduce two legacy characters, beef up the Courtlandts, and give the new Liza a story that is steeped in the characters history.
Cliff and Nina wold be great, so long as they cast them the correct age. I don't want them to come back and still be 30 something. Shows seem to have something against being past the mid 40's.
I respectfully disagree. Bringing back Cliff and Nina would be interesting if both actors were available...which they are not. So then you have to deal with at least one re-cast which can work but can be a nightmare.
In addition, It's hard enough to recast roles without the additional worry about the individual actor also being part of a "supercouple". I can't think of one supercouple in the history of daytime that was created in a casting office. it was created when two actors clicked on screen and the audience reacted..and all the announcements by the network that a new supercouple is coming usually falls flat.
Personally I don't think the show can bring in anyone to be a partner of anyone else..and if they are thinking that, it's going to bomb. It's a better idea to create an interesting character or bring back an interesting character, find an excellent dynamic actor or actress to portray them and then see what happens and go with it.
Trying to recast a couple IMO makes it twice as hard as recasting one character. AMC can't deal with SIMPLE and EASY right now..I can't imagine the mess they would make with something hard.
I would love for Taylor Miller to come back full time. She is one of the more underrated daytime actresses to me. I totally believe enough time had passed to recast Cliff, but even if he is unrecastable, guess what. Bring Taylor back and play that history of Liza being in love with Cliff and give them a rivalry because the one they are trying to create with Krystle ain't cuttin' for me.
I definitely think they could make Cliff & Nina work for us again. They just have to think smart. I do slightly agree with KathyNYC...trying to bring on a supercouple recast could be a disaster...but I think this is how it could work.Bring on Nina, without Cliff....when everyone ask where Cliff is, we find that she and Cliff are having marital problems. Then they bring on the recast of Cliff...he comes into town and they work towards building their marriage back together. This way, the audience gets to see two characters come together and it seems more of like a fresh start or new relationship. That way we wouldn't build too much into the relationship of Cliff & Nina, as we know from the 80's... Makes the expectations not so high for the recast, and it gives the audience time to warm up to the character. I believe it could work that way....then we could give more involved with the Cortlandts family history.
That is my primary concern. Make the Courtlandts relevant again. Because for the life of me, I don't understand why they aren't. They are a huge part of AMC history. Their very existence begat the Chandlers. So where the hell are they. I thought the kid playing Petey was cute, but I always felt that the writers were wrong in making him an awkward computer geek/nerd. For God's sake, the kid's daddy is Palmer, his mother is Opal, Jenny and Nina are his half sisters, Adrian, Tad and Ross are his half brothers, his cousins are Melanie, Will, Dixie and Julie (adopted) This kid's family is soap opera royalty. Why make him a geek? Judging by his gene pool, he should have been a very dynamic character. And he disappeared by the wayside. Without a peep, and with him, the family's chance at relevance again. I do not understand why writers get rid of a show's important family (are you listening GH) It takes away from the show in my eyes. I know Ross raped Natalie, but it has been over 20 years. What he did was horrible, but if they wanted to, the writers can use that history to give him interesting story as they weave him into the canvas. JR is the only other character on that show that is both Chandler and Courtlandt, but he has never really lived life as a Courtlandt. It was as either a Chandler or a Martin. Ross has been aligned with both families. That alone would make him a great character. And they could use his return to bring back Julie. If they bring back Julie, maybe they could bring back Charlie and voila. You have just spruced up the Chandlers, Courtlandts, and Martins with the return of 3 characters. Actually, if the writers want to give Jake and Amanda some conflict, why not bring back a still fragile Emily Ann, who is Billy Clyde Tuggle's daughter (for those of you who don't remember, Billy Clyde became obsessed with Dixie and set the bomb that killed him and caused Tad's amnesia and presumed death), Benny's adopted daughter (a link to Phoebe) and is Jake's first wife. History at work. Damn, I'm good.
I have been watching AMC for more than 30 yrs now and this is the first time I am actually thinking about not watching anymore. It has become so BORING AND RIDICULOUS this past year that it is hard to stomach. The only good part about the show is Tad/Damon and Adam/Brooke. Every other SL is so dull, I FF.
I've watched the last two episodes in their entirety for one reason and one reason only: Zach and Kendall are returning to AMC for a week, and I wanted to understand the build-up to their return and some of the scoops that are out there. If not for TK's and AM's imminent return, I wouldn't waste my time with this show. Greenlee feeling betrayed by everyone around her? Not interesting. David protecting her because Greenlee can't handle the truth? Not riveting. Liza not able to hold a man? Not surprising. Tad being uberpaternal with Damon? Not based on history. I guess I should be grateful that Ryan and Annie had a day off today.Based on the latest pathetic ratings, AMC had better have a trick up its sleeve, or else all of the actors will be joining David Canary in packing up their dressing rooms. In the meantime, I'll watch for one week when Zendall are back, and then leave AMC again without looking back, and all the interviews with the new HWs in the world won't convince me that the "new AMC" is worth watching.
I know this is not the popular view but I do like the new Liza better than the old. To me old Liza (marcywalker) never went well with TAD. I believe the liza that was married to ADAM looked perfect for the part. I like the look of this Liza and and think she fits the attorney part which the old would not.
I am going to respect your right to your opinion....but I strongly disagree with you. Marcy Walker is THE ONLY LIZA, in my opinion. This recast doesn't hold a candle to her portrayal of the character. Jamie Luner could have possibly worked out, if the writers new what they were doing, when writing for Liza....because this new version is not holding true to what Liza is all about. Sorry, but my vote goes to Marcy Walker.
I respect everyone's opinion but I am going to go somewhere in the middle. I loved Marcy Walker as Liza but I am believer that recasts can work..so I don't think I could say Marcy is the ONLY Liza. That said, I think Jamie Luner is a re-cast that didn't work when she started and still does not work now. She is totally wrong for the part ..the way I see Liza...and I am not much impressed with her acting either. I think the show would do better to just cut their losses with this recast and let her go.
Maybe I over spoke, because I loved Marcy so much. But I will say that she is way better at the role than Jamie Luner. I think Beth Ehlers could have done the role of Liza justice....but as far as Jamie, that's a no-go. I think Jamie Luner should stick to those prime time sex-kitten roles that she's used to playing. You know, she could always go reprise her role on Melrose Place....LOL
I have always liked Jamie Luner...they should have just created a new role for her.
Where is Marcy Walker these days?
She is pursuing her family ministry full time in North Carolina, these days.
Really?! That's so wild!
Liza as an adult character was all about control and power. I could see this version of her as a younger character based on her history (Greg, Tad, and Cliff, plus men she slept with when she was drinking trying to get over Tad and her mom.) The image of her that is embedded in my brain is Marcy Walker. If they just had to recast her, I honestly believe that they should have recast her with someone closer in age to Marcy or with the same blond look (Beth Ehlers or even as somneone mentioned and could have been a knockout recast Mary Beth Evans). Plus, they are not writing Liza as she was played over the years. Her reactions don't even come close to how Liza would have reacted in the past. I think people have a hard time relating to her because of how she has been portrayed. Which is a sex kitten. Even when Liza slept with other men (Jake, Ryan), there was nothing sleazy or sex kittenish about it (she fell for Jake because there was a certain pull they had for one another, and she slept with Ryan to get revenge on Adam.)
So now that Adma is gone can we ship off Liza and Colby???
Amen to that!! LMAO
Oh how I wished they would.
If they are not going to make her "Liza" then could she at least be the character she played on "Savannah"? That woman was hell on wheels and would be fun to watch with David. A fun cat and mouse one upmanship could be fun if written well.
