It would appear that GL is losing their fan base. There has been quite a lack of response on this forum in the last few days. It has me scared for their future.
On another note, check out Kim Zimmers official fan website. She will be off for another two weeks, but it has not been by her choice that she has been appearing only sporadically lately. Such a shame. The storylines lately have been trying, and I feel for the actors who are trying to make them believeable. Harley hardly had any contact with Gus for a good four of so months before he died, and now we are supposed to believe that she was thinking that they would wind up together in the end?
Olivia has always been portrayed as a strong woman, who would settle for no man who put her second (like say, Josh). Now we are supposed to believe she wishes she were dead, after all Gus is dead too and she doesn't deserve his heart? Huh? Olivia has always been self serving, while I don't believe she would or should be happy to have Gus' heart, I don't think she would waste the gift.
Cassie is flirting with strangers and sleeping with a good friends guy because she has a kid with a major problem and her daughter died. OKAY>>>>>>>>>>>What is the reasoning behind this?
I hope that my rants spark some conversation or interest on this board. I have watched GL since birth and with it being the longest running show on television, I would hate to see it be destroyed...
I encourage you guys to keep watching, if just for those delightful "Bizzie" scenes. If you pick up Digest, you'll see there's some interesting things on the horizon in May (how it all plays out is another issue, entirely).
I'm watching the show right now. I've only got one word. Stupid. Two words to fix it, IMHO? MORE REVA!OK, a few more words. We always do have the hope of future stories, you're right. BUT not so much the Bizzie thing, at least not for me. I love Marcy Rylan. But a storyline where Bill is in love with her, sleeping with Ava, who gets pregnant by (surprise!) a sperm donor....YAWN and INSULTING. Ummmm.....wasn't SHE the pregnant one in a similar story not too long ago? I'm all about recycling, but good grief.I'm 42 and I've watched this show, as well as all the CBS soaps, literally since childhood. There have been times that I would arrange my schedule around GL, because I didn't want to miss a minute. But I'm afraid I am becoming one of those viewers who will just read the recaps, and even then, say...."What????"Harley stayed away from Gus forever and was having sex with Cyrus on every available surface in town. But now, she can't get over Gus? Cyrus and Cassie sleeping together? Dinah in the mansion.....who cares? Remy....why? I can deal with the production values, the new format, whatever. But the lack of a storyline that brings me back to "appointment TV" and a daily parade of characters who I care nothing about.....they're stealing my show from me.
only one word can summ it all up for what i feel about the show... BORING!
OK, so in the closing moments of the show yesterday, Harley was telling Cyrus that when she is with him now, she feels like she's cheating on GUS. Isn't that nice? Props to Beth Ehlers for keeping a straight face delivering THAT line.So.....she didn't feel like they were cheating on Marina, a living, breathing, current member of her family, when she was sleeping with Cyrus. Didn't stop her, even if she did feel bad. BUT she DOES feel like she's cheating NOW. On her DEAD, EX-husband.I could fertilize my garden with this stuff.
You just posted my exact thoughts!! I get aggravated just watching. :
Ok then, how do we fix this mess? Suggestions? How about Frank helping out Natalia, who is helping out Olivia. Since Frank and Olivia are ex's, maybe Olivia would want him back, seeing him show interest in Natalia. How about Leah Bauer coming into the Rafe/Daisy mix? Wasn't she a real goody-goody, maybe she would want to "fix" Rafe, maybe she has to tutor him so he can graduate or something. How about a Buzz/Lillian/Billy/Doris quadrangle? Maybe bring Shane back for Marina, and Ava or even Ashley gets in the mix. I'm just throwing out ideas and trying to work with the characters that we have. There are bunches of people that could come back and ignite the place, but some aren't interested, like Grant Alexander and Tom Pelphrey. Michelle could add another dimension to the Bill/Lizzie romance. What are some more suggestions?
Boring and unintelligible! Why is it that GL can't get the sound right? I don't want to hear traffic sounds that are louder than the dialog, and it seems that important pieces of dialog (what little there are) are not picked up by the mics. ...and can we have a single episode without one or more musical montages? If I wanted music videos I'd go to MTV! I keep hoping for something to improve but the show keeps going downhill.
indeegirl, fixes are definitely in order. I think, as fans, we may have to learn to live with some things, like the new intro and the production values. Current character ideas...yeah, they planted the seed for a Frank/Natalia relationship last episode. I like that. I can see that working, being good. I like Reva with Josh, ALWAYS, as they say. I'd like to see Billy with Vanessa, Buzz with Lillian. Alan and Doris living in perpetual one-upmanship would be pretty good, although her character doesn't do a lot for me. If she's staying, she needs a story. I don't like the angle they're taking with Blake and Coop, kind of setting up a cougar scenario LOL. Blake is so underused as a talent...goodness. I'd like to see her with, I dunno, Matt? It could work. Marina and Mallet I actually like. But they need to be careful about the mortician's makeup they are using on Mallet, IMHO. Harley? No clue how they can save her now, except, HERE'S a thought.....she doesn't have to have a MAN to be HAPPY! How about a strong woman with her stuff together, taking care of those kids and maybe finishing that house on weekends. Give us someone to cheer for, cause I love Beth and they are destroying what makes us root for her. Here's who can go away and never be missed, character-wise.....not about the actors, but the stories. Dinah, Cassie, Jeffrey, Cyrus, Remy, and PLEASE LORD, Ava. I'd like Beth and Rick work it out, but if they could ever get Grant back it would be FABULOUS. Although if I were him, I wouldn't come back right now, either. Oh, I like Ashlee and Coop! I hope they are given a story with enough teeth to keep us watching, though. I like Lizzie with Bill, minus the tired pregnancy story with Ava. Crystal Chappel is another hugely underplayed actress, as far as what she is CAPABLE of bringing to the show. It'd be nice to see Olivia take that new heart out for a spin, and stop being a whiner. I hear Reva has a big story coming up, and THAT is welcome news! A reason to watch next week!Because that's what's lacking....STORIES. Stories that have the slightest bit of believability. Yes, we watch TV to escape, to be entertained. But not to be insulted. The history of these characters, and their stories, should always be considered. I think most of us would like to think that, given the right circumstances, we might end up in their shoes. They might be our girlfriends having coffee with us, or our neighbors, or our kids. We need to be able to relate to what we see. IMHO, as always!Happy weekend!
I'm new here but I have to agree with some other posters, this show is just pathetic. I was a longtime viewer, 40 plus years and I have never seen GL be this bad. I quit watching after Jonathan left. Nothing much to watch. The sl's are garbage, can't stand the new set, can't hear anything the people are saying, it just got to be too ridiculous and I had to quit. What this show needs are the old sets back and hire some people who can write. I was glad to have gained an hour. It's really sad what this show has become.
I agree with everyone! The one thing I find really sad is the actors, they are only doing what they are paid to do! One actor and I have forgotten their name. They said that they once could give their "take" on their storylines, but they don't even bother any more. I know that if they read these post not just here but everywhere they know that the fans are NOT happy and I would think that the actors are'nt jumping for joy either! I don't know IF gl CAN be FIXED! I always hope for this show to get BETTER! I love watchign gl until these last few years and it seems that gl has taken to jumping off the cliff! I think that the writers are only interested in "shock value" not giving you a storyline that you can "sink your teeth into!" I would love to see romance, real drama, I have grown tried of the threesome, foursomes, you take my ex and I'll take yours! Please! ENOUGH! I really believe that gl CAN be fixed if there were new writers, with vision. But, with the jokers we have now, I doubt that gl will EVER be the gl that kept me watching, running from school to watch the show! Having the feeling that if you misse any part of the show you know that you missed something good! Now, I use the DVR, ff MOST of it! And, more and more I watch gh at least they TRY!
I think one big thing that needs to be fixed is Harley. She has gotten way too needy and pathetic. Marina with Mallet...they may have chemistry, but another of Harley's ex's? Remember Alan-Michael? There is a good twenty years between Harley and Marina, should they be trading partners so freely? If Rick Hearst does get killed off of GH-now that his character is messing around in a mob war-GL should convince him to come back as Alan-Michael. If we can't have Phillip.......Maybe he and Frank can duke it out over Natalia as they once did for Eleni.Hopefully, things will improve now that Kim Zimmer has a story and airtime. Cassie should go to a shrink, she is pretty pathetic too. Maybe it could reinvigorate her character. Since Laura Wright left, Cassie has seemed a lot more needy to me, she needs to get more independent. Olivia needs to regain her strength ASAP, maybe have her struggle with the realization that she may not be as good as new and the frustration of being limited physically. Hey, maybe Remy could help her out-remember he was going to be a Physical Therapist when he first was introduced, back when Shane was paralyzed and with Marina. That is until he became a cop.More ideas anyone?
Quote:Two words to fix it, IMHO? MORE REVA!You could not be more right, AnonymousLucy!! MORE REVA is the fastest way to cure what ails GL. And now that her new storyline has kicked off, hopefully we will see Reva more regularly.
Amen to that Weekly Joe! They need a spark to light the fire that is Guiding Light! If they could add Jonathon to the mix, it would make the place turn into an inferno!
good:Lizzie/Bill Dinah/Bill(hilarious,love the dancing the other day!) Coop/Ashlee Alan working at Companybad:Natalia/Rafe-not needed anymore Olivia/Ava all the outside scenes and it being so cold where they are in Springfield and it's almost summer everywhere else!how to fix it:More Reva break up Josh and Cassie ditto with Cyrus and Harley make the Beacon an apt complex if everyone must live there! bring back Phillip,Shayne,Marah and Jonathan and make Daisy her correct age...she should be about 25 now.
I agree with you on most of those. I would like to know why the soap trend is to have a hotel where everyone lives instead of an apartment complex or condos or something.Harley and Cyrus, and Cassie and Josh are couples that do not work. Heck, I think they would work better if they even just traded partners, though Josh belongs with Reva,, always......But I do like Reva and Jeffrey.Daisy should be older than Marina at the very least.....Marah and Shayne would be good to add back to the mix. Hook Marah up with Remy or something...And whatever can be done to convince Grant Alexander and Tom Pelphey to return would be greatly appreciated.
I have watched the CBS soaps for around 30 years but I have lost interest in GL due to the new filming technique. I hate it, it looks like something I could do with my home video camera . And all those outdoor locations ~ just to much........
I don't mind the outdoor scenes so much as the technique. You are right, it is too amateurish. Jumpy fliming, and the sound need to be improved. If I didn't have a DVR, I would be very frustrated with missing a lot of dialogue. Sometimes I have to rewind several times to get what is trying to be said. The same is happening on ATWT. I don't mind the outdoor shots, but the sound quality is especially lacking.
I too am worried ATWT is going the same route. It appears the NY soaps feel this is the way to go. I wonder what the actors think, it shows every little flaw in the skin and makes them look older! So, far the Cali soaps (Y&R and B & B) still do it the old way. I hope that doesn't change........
I don't know why GL is about everything but what soaps are about Love.....Get some sexy men and steam things up. Bring back Johnathan!
Quote:I would like to know why the soap trend is to have a hotel where everyone lives instead of an apartment complex or condos or something. The only reason I can think of, is that a hotel makes it easier for characters to come and go -- although it seems no one ever moves out of the Beacon anymore. Also, there is theoretically more room to keep adding folks. The Snyder farmhouse over on AS THE WORLD TURNS must be twice the size of a barn by now! I'm thinking the Beacon lobby was converted into rooms, since we never see it anymore...
That is what I was thinking the other day about the Snyder farm. What with Lily, Holden, Jack, Meg and all those kids that place has got to be huge.... Back to the apartment/hotel debate, they already have the "ritzy" hotel and the "dumpy" motel, so why not apartments. I guess it is easier for everyone to bump into, eavesdrop on, and etc, if they all live in the same place.
Quote:I guess it is easier for everyone to bump into, eavesdrop on, and etc, if they all live in the same place. You got it, indeegirl -- it makes those oh, so accidentally meetings easier. Think about the way characters decide to get take-out from Company on the day somebody they love/hate is there. "Fancy meeting you here! What a coincidence that we both had a craving for BuzzBurgers! Let's take them back to our rooms, which happen to be right across the hall from each other." Another fave of mine is when a maid lets someone into someone else's room because they claim to have forgotten their key. The staff must get to know the residents who are there every day...
Is it me, or is "G" just creepy...I don't know if it is the fact that he ran over Tammy, is too old for Daisy, or if there is just something the actor projects. I guess Cyrus' instant brother has good reason to be a "good for nothing". I just hope he doesn't reek too much havoc, I can't see him being around long term given his past history on the show. That is hard to redeem. On another note, I thought since poor Frank never gets any action and the only romance that Mel has had on her entire existence on GL is Rick, they should hook up. As Remy is still visiting the dark side as he has since Tammy died, that could provide some conflict for the cop and the lawyer/doctor. There is quite a rich mine of talented actors on GL that could be better utilized, and I think it is easier to watch a story with established characters than a bunch of newbies or whiny teens.
"G" is creepy! I am not crazy about him. I believe GL must beef up the show or they are doomed. I am an old die hard Another World fan. I believe GL can be revived, but with help from some key actors. What about bringing Tom Eplin in as Jake McKinnon? How about Stephen Schnezer in as Cass Winthrop, Matt Crane in as Matt Corey. They could bring over the old AW fan base and bring GL back to the shining light it use to be. I truly believe AW actresses and actors could help. How about Ann Heche as Vick Hudson??? Or even Ann Heche as the new Harley???? Yea, this "G" dude needs to be axed!!!!
Tom Eplin would be an excellent addition to GL! Too bad they killed off Jake McKinnon on ATWT.....but surely they could think of a character for him. Since Grant Alexander appears to be not interested in returning, maybe Tom could be Philip Spaulding, after all before he was a "corporate raider" Philip was a writer, hmm, like Coop.
I haven't watched GL (and any other soap) for almost 5 yrs. now.....I just recently started back flipping through the CBS soaps.....nothing has changed on B&B (they're all still sleeping with each other), Y&R (Jack/Victor still power struggling, Victor/Nick breakup, etc.), ATWT (I have no clue who any players are) and then there's GL.....WTF?, it is AWFUL!.....the weird camera angles, lighting, the outside shots, the new characters.....yuk!
I have since become a GH & AMC fan (and I am so glad to see Harley/Gus)......and I am loving both shows.
No more GL for moi.
I had to edit some comments about an actor's personal appearance here. Please remember to be respectful.
Your friendly neighborhood Mod,
Mala
I used to love GL, but now it's the last of my taped shows that I watch! I really like it when Reva is on, but can't stand Daisy and her obsession with Grady...Ugh.I also don't like all the outdoor stuff...my favorite things used to be the interiors of the houses. I do like what they did to the Spaulding (Oops-Lewis/Marler) mansion. And why can't they ever finish Harley's house? Especially now, since Alan and Beth are living there!
What does it say about the economy when even ficticious soap opra characters have to scale down things ? What does it say about the economy when a tv station has to put this out on the airwaves? No TV Executive would ever put this out unless he absolutley had no other choice ! ! ! I just wonder what will be on my tv the next time I actually get the luxary of watching .
I rarely watch GL now.maybe once a week if i'm home.the stories are not interesting. We are still dealing with Tammy's death.no one is with who they are supposed to be or are getting anyone near getting together. there is nothing to root for.I like the character of Daisy but my goodness, her with Grady?! just can't see it.I don't even know who is with who anymore? ppl break up or are arguing all the time. The one couple I really liked is Lizzie and Bill and they can't make up their minds if they should be together. The show has no order anymore...it's not even like the GL of one year ago it seems...it was so good in 2006 too...
I have said time and again on different message boards that GL is doomed unless they do some major changing. This show is ok some days and so boring other days. I think that they need to stir it up and stir it up good. How about bringing in some charaters from nearby Bay City, like a Matthew Corey, bring Cass Withrop back, soem of the old AW stars could help boost their ratings from the dump. I believe they should give it a tray and also it would not hurt to bring Johnathan back, recast Harley with someone like Ann Heche, talk a bout boosting things up! They could try to bring Tom Eplin in as a new charater. So many things they could do, so many. How about adding a Felicia Gallant ot an actress of likeness. With Ellen Wheeler on board she could really help make things happen from the old AW actors. GL has a golden opp, but I believe they will fall, fall, fall until they do some major changing. ((Get rid of the weird camera angles)) I might have to levae GL and go to AMC, this show seems to have it together. I hope that GL will PICK IT UP!!!!!!! No excuses!!!!! Their fate is in their hands!!!!!!

I agree with you. I have really not been interested even in watching. I have it on but I hardly watch it! The show is in desperate need of help.
