I have noticed that some folks on this site are kinda rude about the writers and the storylines and sometimes they can get downright nasty. Yet they still tune in. But remember along with the bad comes the good. If you all think you can do better then why aren't you working for soaps I'm sure it pays well.

It is kinda funny. I have my criticisms along with everyone else, but I do try be constructive in my criticism. I can't even begin to imagine coming up with story that is entertaining 5 days a week for 52 weeks a year. There are going to be clunkers. There are going to be repeats. My biggest problem is when they do not stay true to character, or it is just downright illogical. But I try to see how things play out and give people a chance. I can't give much criticism as far as GH is concerned, because I have only been watching for about 2 years, though I did watch some in the 80's. I do wish they would lighten up on the mob stories. I don't like rooting (and drooling over) Jason, with his profession being a hitman. Sonny, with his dimples and charm, being a mob boss, not exactly someone you should be daydreaming about. I do root for both of them to find some way out. Mala had an excellent idea for Jason in her blog. Check it out......Anyhow, people need to have a little more empathy for the writers and the actors when they write their posts. But if you think they can be harsh here, check out some other soap forums. They are down right vicious. This is the only soap forum I will participate in, as the moderators try to keep the negativity to a minimum.

I agree, we are too critical I think the writers are doing a fairly good job especially when they lead you in one direction and throw a curve at you. A good example is the fact the Chloe is Esther's daughter, I didn't see that one coming at all.

Who are Chloe and Esther?I think the writing has gone downhill. The mob has taken over Port Charles. I hate the way Sonny (mob boss) and Jason (enforcer / hitman) are written as heroes, the Police are incompetent, and the hospital staff is rarely seen, except when the stories intersect with the mob.

I think the problem is that, as a whole, we tend to look at the bad things and overlook the good things - it's almost human nature. There are many things that I don't like about the show, but there are other things that I think the show does well. While many are tired of Patrick and Robin's back-and-forth business (and I am to an extent as well), I like that they are playing this out "for real." Life is not all hunky-dory (sp?) and given Patrick's past, I think it's wise of Robin to be wary of his marriage proposal and his interest in the baby (and again, I'm a fan of Patrick/Robin). I think it's just hard to be positive sometimes when there's a lot of things we don't like "glaring" at us. Just my thoughts.

The problem is there's more to dislike than to like, IMO. I used to love this show, and now I find myself fastforwarding through so much of it.

We are hyper critical sometimes, but I think that shows our passion for the shows we watch. There are things I can't stand going on with some of the storylines, but I'm still watching...kinda of.

Speaking as one of the mods on this forum, I have to say that even the harshest views posted reflect the passion of the fans. Mala and I try to let people express themselves (within reason), but we draw the line when opinions become attacks and the criticisms get personal. This board is about the show and the characters, not the people behind them. We assume everyone is putting out their best efforts and not trying to air a poor show, and we expect everyone who posts here to respect everyone else -- industry professionals and fans alike.

I try not to criticize writers or storylines, but having watched soaps for 20 years, I feel like I can predict storylines or write something better.

I think we are all entitled to our own opinions and as someone who's been posting to and reading this site for awhile now, I don't think the comments made about characters and storylines are harsh or rude at all. I've read some stuff on other sites that should have never been posted. Some of us are more passionate that others. I think that comes from many, many years of watching soaps, having attachments to characters that we've literally grown up with, and seeing the changes in writing style and storylines that truly make no sense to us who have been watching since we were 8. Writers come and go, soap fans tend to stay and it seems that the writers of late have done no background on these character and are just writting to keep quotas or maintain production. Not to best interest to these characters, shows or fans. I'm sure writing for a soap is difficult. You have to be extremely creative and push the bar without going too far and insulting your viewers. For me, this is the problem. Viewers are being insulted with some the stuff that's been coming across lately. And actors are being insulted when they've been growing a character for years and all of a sudden that character starts acting and doing things that make no sense and have no explaination. Some of the stuff is just common sense. Why is Sonny's house accessible to everyone in Port Charles? I mean, come on, really? When I see a character like Alexis Davis, who of course has faults like anybody else, but when I see this character who use to be a strong, smart, determined, logical character turned into someone I can't recognize, it's natural for me to want to say something about that. Especially when I have this forum where like-mined people can come together and express their thoughts. That's exactly what we're doing and I think this site was set up for us to do so.

I think I'd do a good job coming up with stories. The thing is I know the history of the show or at least 30+. I have to wonder how much research these writers now have done. Not just this show but all the ABC shows...well I'm pretty much ok with OLTL. Any way I am thankful to these shows because they are a great "get away" for me . Over the years they have helped me get away from the kids. .the husband, the sadness from divorce & now my emplty nest so I guess I should say a huge Thank You to them...but I still think I could write some great stories.
