I have been watching soaps on and off since the 60's
Boy have they changed 150 degrees since then.
They use to be 30 minutes long
You could turn it off and come back 3 months later and know just what was going on... they moved very slowley...
People in movies or tv would not be caught in a roll on the soaps... and most soap stars did not cross over either.

The soaps have really changed for the better and are more like a series that the tv does these days. It follows a great and daily time line and if you miss a week you could really be lost...

But my two bigest gripes are
1. Changing the stars at the drop of a hat. We really get use to having a star and then to find them replaced is a shock and takes alot of getting use to.

In the old days the only way a star got off the soap was to die... and you knew that they were not coming back..

As I said the soaps have really come a long way and are very good to watch. TILL..... this big glitch with Michael and Christina

What a crock this is.....

Michael was born in 97 and Christina was born in 2003

that makes Michael 12 years old and Christina 6.

Why would the writers want to skip almost 10 years with the new actors... Really lame writing there....

They did not do that with Jr and Jamie in AMC.... Or Star and Mathew in OLTL.... We have watched them grow up and become teens and then adults...

GH needs to take a page out of AMC and OLTL about this.

And my last beaf with them all is having a fav star show up on another soap with another name and not at all conected to the last soap they were on.... bouncing stars between AMC, OLTL and GH are fine because they retain their idenity... but to shift them to TYAR or GL... just aint on in my book.

Y&R & GL are on a different network & not owned by the same people as the ABC soaps. When Ric Hearst left, it was his choice because he wanted to work, not sit around, waiting to be called in. As for the aging of Michael & Kristina, we've all voiced our disapproval, but looking on the bright side, so far it seems that the recasts have the talent to lessen the sting.

I'm not sure the part about Jr & Jamie isn't right. I'm pretty postive me & Dixie where preggers at the same time. My son is 20. Jr on AMC is older. And Jamie is younger than Jr.

I think they did it in an easier progression, so it felt like we watched them grow up. I think Star is the last kid to truly grow up on a soap, but I stopped watching AMC & OLTL a while ago. I hardly know who's who when flipping by on soapnet. But speaking with soaps moving slow, you can still pick up what happens on Y&R. I stopped watching that so many years ago, but every now and then when I'm at a friend's house and its on, I can still pick up the story.
