Digest: So, let’s say you won another Emmy this year. Would it mean something different to you now that AMC is no longer where you hang your hat every day?
Duhamel: To me, the most important thing would be to get the chance to really, really thank the people I didn’t get to thank last year, like Rebecca and the crew from the show and the actors. For whatever reason, I feel like I can’t thank them enough. I just feel like I’m so indebted to those people for making things easy for me when I was there and allowing me to grow. I guess that’s what I’d want to do, so yes, it would mean something different.Digest: You’ve been living in California for several months. Are you fully an L.A. boy now?
Duhamel (adopting a Valley Boy accent): Like, totally! [Returns to normal voice] Yeah, I like L.A. It’s not like New York at all. I’m a little bit healthier; I eat better, I work out more. But there’s not as much to do. Thankfully, my girlfriend’s here and I get to see her all the time, unlike when I lived in New York.Digest: Tell us about shooting LAS VEGAS.
Duhamel: Oh, it was a blast. It was a blast. It was the hardest, the most difficult, exhausting, exciting time I’ve ever had working. I was so tired when I’d get up each morning, but I’d have so much fun the whole time. I was working crazy hours, sometimes from 7 at night until 9 in the morning or from 3 in the morning until 6 at night. But it was just fun. I got to drive a ’69 Camaro convertible…. I won’t even get into all the fun things that were going on there on the set, or off the set! It was such a visual smorgasbord, working in Las Vegas. It’s the craziest place you could imagine. I didn’t really get to go out until the night we wrapped. I’m usually the one walking around Vegas like an idiot, but this time I got to see how these people behave. It was wild!Digest: And what can you tell us about Win A Date With Tad Hamilton!?
Duhamel: I have to learn to ride a horse for the movie. The character is a movie star who has learned how to do all these different things for his movie roles. So, I get to take horse-riding lessons for two hours a day! That’ll be fun!Digest: I don’t mean to laugh….
Duhamel: No, it’s okay, you can laugh! It’s hilarious. Believe me, this is like a dream come true. I was hoping that I would get some work when I came out here, but I didn’t expect things to go quite this well, and I’m just…. It’s almost like it’s too good to be true. I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop or something, but I’m excited, and I’m going to try not to screw it up!Digest: You won’t. We all expect you to make us proud.
Duhamel: Well, that’s very sweet, and I thank you for that. But coming out here, I was worried. I mean, you never know. A lot of people believed in me, a lot of people said this and that, but you just never know. I got a couple lucky breaks, and I have great people in my corner, and if I didn’t know before how much of a difference that makes, I know it now.
