Everything I love about Guiding Light is too long a list. I started watching in 1983, when Texas was cancelled, and Pam Long took top wrtier. I have been a loyal viewer ever since except, the Reva Clone story. I have never made that same mistake again.I've been crying, over a show, but it is by far, the BEST show on T.V. I sincerely hope someone will notice and takes over our show. Ithe cast and crew don't deserve to have nothing to show for thier hard work.
I agree with your sentiments - my mother watched GL (one of her "stories") and it just became a part of my daily life, throughout school, until 1998-2006 when I worked at a job that left me with no free time. Now that I've come back to an admittedly different show than before, I still love it. So many great stories and characters:-was it Nola's engagement party that was a costume ball and she and Vanessa both wore the same southern belle dress and fell down the stairs fighting?-Bert Bauer urging Josh to fight through his paralysis, made even more poignant as the actress herself recently became an amputee..-Holly and Roger, and Ed and Rita and all the other people that got in the way of that freight train (or was it train wreck?) that was Holly and Roger...I could go on and on but I would just start blubbering over the show ending its run on CBS.Great forum, great to share these thoughts with other fans.
I share your sentiments, glatwtoltl. I started watching GL in 1983. I am going to miss the show very much and I hope it gets picked up, but if it doesn't I hope we get to see Alan Sapulding punished for all the things he's done. I think the show should end with him going off to jail. I think we should see him acknowledge all of his misdeeds and then pay for them....
Yes I agree. They really need to wrap up alot of loose ends if the show does not get picked up. It would be good to see Alan pay for all his deeds. He is such a great actor!! I was so mad at him today for his smug face with Phillip about James letting him go to prison. Telling Phillip he will do good in prison... It would be great if Bill and Lizzie ended up having a baby boy to carry on the Lewis name instead of Spaulding name and really rub Alans face in it!! Maybe have Jonathan and Sarah come back to stay for good.....and visit Alan in prison! Yep... lots of loose ends. Or better yet....Have Alan have a week long nightmare showing all of the bad deeds he has done and have all the character visit him in his sleep.....then they all attack him and give him a heart attack that kills him right after he wakes up!!
Let it end with a MAJOR cliffhanger......ONE that will leave all mouths agaped.....and make people wonder......I say if you gonna go out.. go out in a blaze of glory!!!
I'm still hoping that Lifetime or someone will pick them up......really hate to see it end but if it does.....you're right it needs to go out in a BLAZE of GLORY!

That would be awesome if LIFETIME WOULD keep the light burning.. I cannot believe that they are allowing this show to go away..........in OUR part of town that just means ANOTHER hour of news..dang it..

I have loved watching guiding light for yrs since I was a teenager, it was a ritual to sit down with my mother who always had a pot of tea ready for us to have as we watched the show. She was intrigued by the escapades of roger thorpe, I was by what went on with the spauldings. But today I read on another website P&G want us to be disgusted with our show in its last few weeks by letting vulgar language be used as they figure with only 90 shows left we wont be watching till the light gets extinguished. They said they are doing that as they want to get out of the tv business and be solely concentrating on the consumer goods. I loved the moments today when the 4 musketeers were together today at the bauer bbq. Despite what I read and I am sure others agree with me gl has been the best soap to watch on daytime and CBS TELENEXT and P&G should reconsider the dousing of our light.
I read that too about P&G because they didn't want to be in the soap business anymore but also didn't want consumers to stop buying their products. I loved the last couple of days with the Bauer barbecue and when it showed Phillip looking around at everyone and smiling it actually made me tear up. If you go on cbs.com you can select finale and the actors talk about the barbecue and how much fun they all had and enjoy being with each other.......hate to see this show end

I have been a guiding light fan since I was 13, it was something my late mother and I did daily, we always made a pot of hot tea together and see what roger thorpe and the bauers would be up to next, ditto for the villainous alan spaulding, along with reva shayne. I sure hope it is not taken from us, as 2nd to Y&R is the best soap on daytime. Now at age 48 I still like to see what the spauldings and coopers are gonna do next, is jonathan going to keep lizzie from marrying bill lewis when he comes home? HmmmThe story I cant take is otalia. Yuck. Heres the thing cbs has a lot of nighttime programs that are terrible, cancel those before taking the light away from us loyal followers like me. I set my clock by watching GL daily. [list]
