As it should! There is a way to handle it and this was not it. How about Lucky going back to his roots not this insulting campaign like any one else ever had the part. JJ is a good actor and I am sure he will do the part justice but ABC is not promoting this correctly and will wind up getting fans mad. Huge mistake!
I have not seen it yet, and I am hoping I don't from the sound of it. I actually thought it was insulting to both actresses when they did the whole "real greenlee" campaign. I only watch GH , so the fact that I thought that it was a horrid thing for a show to do that I don't even watch, well, watch out GH, you are already skating on thin ice!!
I noticed a bubble last night, your watching a GV as lucky & a bulle come up letting you know JJ is back next week (so rude)as the orginal Lucky, plus what she's talking about with Liz. ITs just plain wrong.
I agree JJ is great, but I prefer GV's Lucky.
Off the subject ( sorta) I loved seeing Leslie Webber on the show
Please hire GV back as the new cassadine lol. That would be soooo funny like they did on GH the old Carly came back as a totally diff character.
That would be hysterical, especially if Liz felt a strange attraction to this new Cassidine, as they did with Sarah Brown...re-pairing her with Maurice Bernard.
Exactly Indeegirl. perfect listen to your watchers more ptb
I like the Idea of GV coming back as a Cassadine - Valentin's son perhaps? I think Greg could carry off playing an evil Cassadine very well.
They should keep GV, & make him a Cassiadine.Remember Lucky was "killed" in a fire. The C's could have kept him all this time but sent the "new" Lucky back to PC keeping the real (JJ) Lucky on the island. Did that make any since...I still have the flu & feel stoned out of my mind.
Oh gosh girl, me too. Feel like sh*t. I have not been this sick since I had strep throat about 10 yrs. ago. Thank god for nyquil!
I hope you both get well soon! Here's to Nyquil.
Thank you.
Quote:I think they are making a mistake bringing back Jonathon Jackson. Just because he was popular ten years ago doesn't mean he will fit now. Greg Vaughn has done a fine job as Lucky. Just check out AMC's "real Greenlee" campaign to see that good writing is far more important than stunt casting with a favorite from the past.
Jonathan Jackson does not need this 5th rated soap if you look at his quite impressive resume they are lucky to have him (no pun intended). He is a very nice man married to a woman who was on GH who (I think may be up to 10 years his senior) and he has two children. who is more than capable of handling a role as Lucky Spencer. He is extremely popular "outside of GH" and has made a name for himself with a movie coming out w/Al Pacino. His song was used with One Tree Hill he has a successful band outside of his acting career and charity work "Permission to Dream" He played an iconic character in Sarah Chronicles the husband/father John to Sara earlier this year....

He has done what Steve Burton still wants to do 10 years ago when he was 17 leave GH and strike out.

Oh and by the way he's an awesome actor at the top of his game the man "can act his buns off" he has clips on his website of his work as actor,musician....no he's not James Franco but he's not chopped liver either. I don't how long he'll be with GH but he has another movie coming out so? Who knows Those of us who are his fans who have kept up (and supported) his career know him outside of a teenage Lucky Spencer. Jonathan has grown by leaps and bounds and he's only 27 yrs old...he's around 5 yrs younger than Becky .
I did not mean to imply that JJ was not talented, by any means. There have been other example of people going back to soaps that have not clicked. There is just a huge difference sometimes when you are going back to a role you have created many years ago, that has continued on in your absence. Especially, if the recast to your role has not been a complete bust, and then when you come back, it is under circumstances which may not be "fan" friendly. I hope that it works out well for all involved. I guess my biggest beef is the way in which the "Lucky switch" evolved, I have nothing against the actors involved.
I think you forgot a movie. It was with Michelle PPhieffer & Treat Williams (yummy)...Deep end of the Ocean (or pool, I forget) Where his little brother is Kidnapped as a toddler, and is later reunited with the family as a teen.
Well, thanks for the lengthy report. But I dont recall anyone ever saying he was not a good actor, just that he is no longer LUCKY. I like JJ just fine and have watched a lot of his work. But GV is Lucky and JJ no longer is. And he may be a grown man but he still has a very young look about him, wihich IMO takes one of the best part of Lucky (the downright sexiness) right out of the character. And he just seems so much younger in every other way. But I guess we will all see come next week.
My issue is not with JJ coming back. My issue is with the show. First of all, it's how they're handling it. It looks as though they just dumped GV like he was some hunky, but talentless newbie. The problem was never GV's acting. It was issue number 2 that I have with this whole situation. The character of Lucky has been written so badly that no actor can make gold out of it, even the best Oscar winners. Unless they start writing Lucky with more intelligence, backbone & respect for both himself & others & stop his whining, it won't be any better with Lucky # 1 than it was with Lucky #3. GV was simply doing the best he could with the garbage they were giving him. That drivel isn't going to go down any easier with JJ playing the part than it did with GV playing it. That's the bottom line.As for that promo for JJ's return, it's almost as bad as "The real Greenlee returns." It's completely tasteless. I'm sure they could've found a better way to advertise JJ's return than that. How about simply saying "Jonathan Jackson returns as Lucky Spencer on Tuesday" & leave it at that? I think that would've at least shown some respect for the fans that think GV got screwed & a little bit of respect for the actor who has played the part for the last 6 years. Doing it the way they've done it isn't fair to JJ either because to the fans, it looks like he came in & pushed GV out, when it was clearly a decision made by TPTB. The way they've set it up, plenty of fans will take their frustration out on him instead of the people who made the decision to fire GV & hire him.
Say that Graz. You save me from having to type a lengthy reply. All that being said, TPTB should allow JJ to continue on with his oh so awesome career and GV should stay right where he belongs.
Say that LJ also. Another good and accurate reply
I think its awesome JJ is coming back..sure I like greg just fine but JJ DEFINES lucky. I mean-i liked gregs lucky to but there was always this lil part missing..it'll be back once he starts airingI couldnt be happier. My favorite J as lucky story line is when he helps Liz after she gets raped. Now THATS the LizxLucky I remember....and loved..the hero!lucky who saved a girl he liked
Liz the 'bad girl' was raped...Lucky...the boy became the hero, and got her through it and healed her, and they fell in love. What made it a compelling story was that it was the opposite of Luke & Laura. (Good girl/bad boy vs. good boy/bad girl)I think, Brandini, you've made others' point for them. JJ's Lucky has grown into GV's Lucky. In the 10 years, the character has grown and lived. While we may not like the direction the writing has gone, and the direction it has taken the character, we are there regardless. My concern is this; you can't go back. I worry the writers are going to try to angelicize Lucky, and there is no way to do so. Too much has happened. If they stay true to the evolution of the character, like the did Laura (to a degree), then it can work. The reason Laura's limited run worked was they stayed true to the characters of Luke, Laura, and Tracy. It was completely organic. Luke has grown with Tracy, and Laura awakened to the past, and was forced to process and catch up. But it was in tune with where the character was, and where she ended up.Lucky hasn't that luxury. That story is in a straight line, and I hope they do not whitewash the growth of the character, and the demons he has faced just to try to recapture the past.
Amen to Destiny and Graz. Look at the mess that was made when Dawn was recast twice. The only thing they could do was kill her off.Like everyone else, I'm upset at the way that this was handled. Will give JJ the benefit of the doubt, but I'm not hopeful. Can not honestly picture him with Sam. Not that I expect it to happen, just a thought.
Yes he is a good actor & was well loved on GH years ago, but like so many others have said Lucky has grown. All that you said makes me wonder how long will he stay? I love the Lucky that GV brought to life & prefer him. Nothing against Jonathan, I've enjoyed his work & really like him, but he moved on & so did Lucky

Obviously he does need it or he wouldn't be coming back. All of the impressive resumes and character references are not going to change the minds of the fans that feel that GV got a very raw deal. It remains to be seen whether or not JJ can pick up the Lucky role 10 years later and be successful in it and be liked by the fans.
Really? I wouldn't consider him successful. I haven't heard of or seen one thing that he's done outside of GH since he left other than the Michelle Pfieffer movie he did right at the beginning. And honestly, I didn't think his marriage would last this long.
I think Lucky is going to change a lot again. I couldn't stanf JY Lucky and GV was good but the character was never Lucky to me. I really hope they bring the essence of who Lucky really is back with JJ. I have to admit that I have been waiting for this for 10 years! I am ecstatic!
With all that being said, GH treated GV like a piece of garbage, beginning and end of story. I am sure JJ will be good and there will be people who like him and not like him and that is okay. It is just so sad a man with kids was put out of work. JJ had nothing to do with that. He was led to believe that GV wanted to leave. The powers that be owe GH and JJ an apology because knowing the type of person JJ is I am sure he is upset to hear that Greg was let go to make room for him. It was a classless thing but it happened and it is done. We have to see how things play out and wish both men luck!
Seriously, couldn't they at least take Greg Vaughan out of the opening credits........
Typical GH. That is so sad!
Alan is still on it & he's on a different soap.
And the last frame of the opening with all the guys-- In addition to Alan & Lucky #3, we also have Lorenzo & Justus, as well.
With Alan and Ric, at least there isn't a different actor playing the character.....I have seen on Steve Burton's twitter, that there is a new opening in the works....I should hope so.
Paul....my point was missed completely.....as much as I think GV is okay...Im happy JJ is back..I prefer him as lucky and I couldnt be happier he is back.
I liked Greg Vaughan but YEAH!!!! Original Lucky is back- this is going to be good!!!!
strawberry-I know right , Im SO excite I just hope they can get those two back to where they are both in love...not just lucky. I LOVE the elizabeth lucky pairing..esp with JJ
So far not overly impressed with the JJ return. Did they have to trot him around to connect with Luke and Laura so everyone was sure they understood who he was? What's wrong with just taking over a role? It's done all the time. Now Rebecca is leaving (Breaking news SOD). Again, if they hadn't killed off Emily, there would have been more story to work with. As it is, very few PC residents and fans liked the character, so now she's leaving. I'm really not sure what the purpose was to bring on Rebecca. Now Ethan will need a new romantic interest. There's always hope that they'll come to their senses and bring GV back.
I wish Rebecca would take Ethan with her.I still think They should have kept GV. They could have played this off better... with keeping both. Remember Lucky was in a fire & Helena kept him. They could have said when she returned Lucky, it wasn't really Lucky & this whole time she had been keeping the "real" Lucky (JJ). Do the old Lucky (GV) was brain washed story. Let Helena bring in the old Luycky /JJ & black mail Luke about some thing. It could have been done & everyone would be happy....Anyother crazy idea would have been... Laura didn't know she gave birth to twins & Nic & "Lucky" ( GV's) are really twins & keep him in the family so to speak....

I had to turn my volume up sky high just to hear what he was saying. The only part I thought was cute was when Elizabeth opened the door and JJ said, "hi, remember me?" Other than that, I oiled up my fast forward finger and got to work.

"Hi, remember me?" didn't fit since they see each other almost everyday and they're engaged. It would confuse anyone new to the show. If it had happened when Elizabeth first got back into town, maybe, but not after the party and being with the family.
I was not watching GH when JJ played the character of Lucky, so when I heard he was coming back and GV was leaving, I thought, ok I'll reserve judgement. Have to say though, I don't know how much older Lucky is supposed to be than Ethan or Lulu, but, JJ looks younger than all 3 of his siblings. I'm sorry GV is gone from the role of Lucky.
i have not watched Lucky's "return" yet, but I am think what they did to GV stinks, however, he is not the first nor is he the last soap actor to be treated that way. I just hope the change in actors will help the storylines, however, the storylines are only as good as the writers. I watched when JJ was Lucky missed the second Lucky came back with GV. Took awhile for me to get used to him, but he grew on me, again, I blame the writers for thier lack of character (pun intended). They do that a lot, and I am only giving GH until the end of the calendar year, as I am curious about the James Franco deal, but after that unless the writing improves, I am a goner, again.
Lucky was a teen when Luke & Laura had Lulu. She grew up fast like soap kids do....Ethan is bull & the story behind Luke & Holly having him is such a lie that I couldn't tell you what his age should be.JJ is older than you think...I believe he is around 27ish ??? But he looks 20. You are right that he does not look like the older brother. Really Nic would be the oldest..I think.

Actually, today, when Lucky was talking to Nikolas, he reminded me of Michael, with extra scruff on his face. That's how young he looks to me.
Thank you. And to comment to the person who posted about turning up the volume when he speaks, me too.
He looks much younger than he is. I don't want to sound mean because I do like the actor just not him in this role anymore because when he left Lucky grew more so with GV. It's like he's going backwards in years..Some people no matter the age get stuck playing younger roles...look at the man who plays a teen on OLTL, Martys son Cole.
ITA about JJ looking too young to play the part-there's no way he can fit the big brother role. I didn't watch GH when he was on the first time but so far I am not impressed. They are going to ruin the Lucky character to suit the actor. So much could be mined w the progress the character has made but that's all gonna go out the window to suit JJ. Elizabeth also looks way older than Lucky so it's really hard to think of her as the young mother she is supposed to be. I think GH got it wrong this time.
I agree with the youngr part. I guess I could deal with the looking younger part if his voice had matured a bit, but he still sounds like a prepubescent teen. At this point I am ready for Lucky to be a MAN, nostalgia aside. I did think though with his scenes with Luke, I remembered how much JJ resembled AG. So that is a little more believable. Nothing against JJ, but seriously , he just lacks the maturity that other Lucky portrayers have brought to the screen. I hope it gets better, but that hope is fleeting.

Thanks, folks! I understand the business and the nature of the beast when it comes to exits and recasts, but that promo got me all riled up.
