Abby escorted Michael into her bedroom, and they made love. Afterward, Michael reveled in feeling happy and free. She said he made it safe for her to trust men again. He was eager for round two, and so was she! Later, she noted they still are who they are, "just more intimate." They noshed on cold pizza, and he admitted, "I never knew what happiness was, until now." She agreed. He suggested going to a movie or an art gallery, but she kissed him to start round three. Afterward, Michael recalled when they first met, as set up by Sam. He praised her for handling him when he freaked, but she said she saw his strength and gentleness. Then they started kissing again, and he carried her back to the bedroom. Afterward, she admitted she's scared of being so happy, but she's not going to sabotage it. "I love you," he blurted out.
Carly showed Sam the video threat from Franco. Sam insisted she show Jason, but Carly worried that he couldn't handle it right now. At the PCPD, Dante explained to Jason that DNA evidence proved Luke ran down Jake. "It was no accident," Jason pronounced, saying Luke was drunk. Dante warned that killing Luke won't bring Jake back. Jason left with determination in his eyes. At The Haunted Star, Luke babbled about not seeing Jake, but Lucky pressed him about drinking. "I had a drink," Luke admitted, insisting he can hold his liquor and never drives drunk. He simply didn't see Jake.Luke started slamming shots, and note, "I've been drinking since I was 12." He immediately walked a straight line and performed other sobriety tests, then drank more. "Dad, stop!" Lucky screamed into his face, knocking the glass out of his hand. He and Luke both burst into tears. Luke said he will bear this guilt forever; he can't blame the booze, because that would be too easy. "Nobody knows why this happened," he insisted. Lucky said the drinking is a curse, passed from Luke's father to him, to Lucky. "Your drinking killed my son!" Lucky lamented. Luke acknowledged, "I was drunk," because that's why Lucky needed to hear. "Please don't hate me," Luke begged. But Lucky noted he was also in denial about his father's drinking. "I don't hate you," Lucky replied. "I know that you love me — just like I loved Jake." He left Luke alone. Carly went to the penthouse and showed Jason Franco's video. Jason had her send it to Spinelli. He promised to handle it, and sent her to Joss. Later, Shawn visited Carly in Josslyn's room, and announced that he's her new bodyguard.
Lulu offered Elizabeth condolences for Jake and apologized for being cruel to her over the affair with Nikolas. Liz said none of that matters now, as she fondled Jake's toy motorcycle. "I was wrong," Lulu admitted. Elizabeth blamed herself for not locking the door. Suddenly there was a knock — it was Dante. He told them that Luke accidentally killed Jake. Both Liz and Lulu were stunned, but then Lulu insisted there must have been a mistake. Liz asked them both to leave.
Lucky went to PCPD, where he acknowledged to Dante there is no way to prove Luke was legally drunk. Dante told Lucky that Lulu refuses to believe Luke was culpable. Lucky noted denial runs in the family. Lulu ran into Tracy and told her about Luke. They worried that guilt is eating Luke alive. Back at the Star, Luke flashed back to a conversation with young Lucky, then freaked out and overturned a poker table. Lucky went to the penthouse, looking for Jason, but finding only Sam. "Tell him not to kill my dad," Lucky said. At that moment, Jason arrived at the Star. He asked Luke if he was drunk. Luke said he drank, but he wasn't drunk. Luke pulled out his gun and placed it on the bar. "Use it," he told Jason.

Shawn explained that Jason arranged for him to guard Carly and Josslyn, but she suggested he go help Jason track down Franco. He declined, so she set ground rules for his guardianship. Shawn introduced himself to Jax as the new bodyguard. "No, you're not," Jax snarled. Carly told Jax about the video; he was furious that she went to Jason first. Shawn vowed to protect Joss with his life, but Jax wasn't impressed. Jax wanted to take Joss out of the country, but Carly reminded him that Joss can't be moved so soon after her operation.
Lulu lamented that Luke killed Jake in a "horrible, tragic accident." Tracy wondered how Lucky will see it. Lulu insisted Luke doesn't get drunk. Tracy volunteered to go confront Luke. Lulu went home and cried in Dante's arms. Dante reassured her that Jason won't kill her father, but she burst out crying. Meanwhile, Sam told Lucky that Jason is in a lot a pain. Lucky responded that he is in the same hell as Jason. She said Jason was grateful to Lucky for raising his son for those 4 years. At The Haunted Star, Luke offered to put his gun in his mouth, but Jason doubted Luke would do it. Luke admitted killing Jake, but insisted he wasn't drunk. Furious at Luke's denial, Jason pointed the gun at him. Luke lamented that bad things happen to kids. Jason said killing him "feels like justice," but he wants to set a better example for Michael. He put the gun down and left.
In bed, Abby expressed a desire for a peppermint latte. Michael repeated that he loves her, and she's good for him. She noted he's young, they care about each other, and shouldn't label it. She pointed out love doesn't always last; what people want changes as they grow up. She's happy the way things are, and is willing to let him go when the time comes. He promised he knows how he feels. Then they made love again. Afterward, she restated her desire for a peppermint latte. After getting their drinks on Baker Street, they ran into Brandon. Michael warned him, "You touch Abby, I'll kill you."
When Jason got the restaurant, he told Sonny about Franco. Sonny expressed his condolences for Jake, and Jason told him Luke did it. And it wasn't an accident, because he was drinking. Sonny doubted Luke would drink and drive. Jason admitted that although he gave up Jake to protect him, Jake might have been safer with him. Sonny said there are no guarantees to keep their loved ones safe; all they can do is love them and try to make the best possible decisions. Brenda visited Carly and offered suggested a fresh start between them.
Siobhan did Lucky's laundry, then he asked her to listen to him talk. He told her Luke insisted he wasn't drunk when he killed Jake. Lucky pointed out that he and Luke have had problems in the past, including not speaking for years at a time. He remembered his father always drinking, but he only realized Luke was an alcoholic after developing his own addiction. But Lucky never confronted him. "I enabled him," Lucky sighed. And Lucky was supposed to take the boys that night, making it equally his fault. Luke told Tracy he had no idea how to process his feelings. She offered to help; he suggested she tell Lucky that alcohol was not responsible for the accident; it was dark, and Jake was tiny. "Sometimes there are no answers," he sighed, but noted that Lucky needs something to blame. Tracy said Lucky is right. Then she asked Luke to dance.
When Sam returned to the penthouse, she left Jason alone to brood. Sonny arrived at the Star to find Luke contemplating his glass and his gun. He offered Sonny a drink...

Brandon warned that if Abby presses charges, it could get ugly for Michael and Dante. Brandon baited Michael, who again threatened to kill him. Brandon brandished a gun and then left. Michael vowed that Brandon would never hurt Abby again. At the loft, Lulu told Dante she never even considered that Luke could be guilty. She recounted what a strained relationship Lucky already had with Luke, and wondered if it can survive.
Michael arrived and exploded at Dante, saying the system has failed him and Abby. Abby worried a jury might buy Brandon's twisted version of events, so she decided to drop the charges. After they left, Dante checked into Brandon's case, and learned he has a new lawyer pushing for a trial. Dante worried that Michael will take the law into his own hands. Back at Abby's place, she said she can't bear a trial. Michael promised there won't be one because he's going to protect her. She pointed out he will be suspect No. 1 if Brandon turns up dead.
At The Haunted Star, Sonny told Luke, "Jake's death was an accident," but cautioned him to give Jason some space. Sonny called Luke hitting Jake "the luck of the draw." Luke lamented that everyone else is blaming the alcohol. Sonny backed him, but also noted that had it been his kid, he would kill Luke. Sonny recounted the torture of Michael's coma, and once again called Jake's death an accident. But Luke still wasn't buying it. "I killed a child," he insisted.
At the Hub, Robin praised Patrick for getting right back into the operating room, and also needled him about his God Complex returning. Lisa literally bumped into Steve, and told him she wants to put Patrick behind her. He was skeptical. Emma brought Patrick a painting, and the family went off together to get pancakes. At home, they had take-out Chinese instead. Robin told her husband life is too short, so she's going to enjoy simple pleasures like sharing a meal with her family. Later, Patrick read to Emma — while Lisa watched from outside.
Arriving at a house where his grandson lives, Theo told a goon to "be thorough" with the adoptive parents, because he intended to keep the child to himself. Suzanne suddenly walked in, revealing that she "procured the loyalty" of several of his men. She also arranged for the child to be brought to Theo right now. She said she used to blame him for Aleksander's death, but knows he was devastated, too. She suggested raising their grandson together. "This boy is our legacy," Theo noted. As he sat contentedly, Suzanne walked behind him and said she was in a position to give him everything he deserves. Then she took out a straight razor and slit his throat!
Carly rejected Brenda's call for a truce and they mixed it up. Then Shawn hustled Brenda away. Later, Carly vented to him about her recent troubles, and how difficult it was to ask her best friend to take a kidney from his dead son. Shawn briefly put a hand on her shoulder. Later, Carly found Shawn playing dolls with Josslyn and sweet-talking the child. Brenda told Sonny that Carly rejected her truce, but she's not going to fight. Sonny noted that Jason feels he wasted the last four years. "Accidents just happen," she said. Sonny suggested he wouldn't be able to live with himself if had killed a child. "I would want the grieving parents to come to my house and put the gun to me," he declared.
Elizabeth visited Luke to tell him about all the things she's going to miss. including Jake's first soccer game and his first day of kindergarten. Luke tried to apologize, but she called it "all my fault." He replied, "You're a good mother." She said she had the boys that night because Lucky was getting married and she refused to let him take the boys. She blamed her selfish choices for losing the man she loved and her son. "I'm sorry Luke," she said, referring to the guilt he has to live with. She was supposed to keep Jake safe. Luke confessed that the night he hit Jake, "I had a couple of drinks." Liz suddenly grew colder, but noted it doesn't make a difference, "because Jake is still gone."

Abby found Michael asleep guarding her door, and said she wants to drop the charges against Brandon so Michael won't have to take the stand. She thinks Brandon will skip town. Michael was adamant that Brandon must pay. She decided to visit the ADA rather than go to Jake's memorial. Michael urged her to stand up to the bully/rapist, but if she won't, he will.
When Nikolas arrived at Elizabeth's in preparation for the memorial, she offered him one of the peanut-butter cookies she had baked for Jake. "I let Jake down that night," she sighed, but was determined to be there for him today. At the penthouse, Sam helped a visibly shaken Jason with his tie. "I don't know how to deal with this," he whispered. He noted he missed all of the important days in Jake's life except the day he was born and the night he died. Jason felt the memorial is for Jake's parents — Liz and Lucky — and he would be out of place. He recalled walking Michael everywhere, and wished he could have done the same with Jake. Sam pointed out he gave up his son out of love, and he will always be Jake's father. Carly visited Luke at The Haunted Star to ask if he was going to the memorial. Luke said that would being bad taste, and downed a shot. She promised Jason won't hurt him, but Luke should leave town — and stay gone. Later, she visited Joss at the hospital, and told Jax she feels good knowing Shawn is watching Joss. Carly suggested they make nice for the memorial. Later, Luke tried to visit Joss, but Shawn stopped him. Luke was sure his niece wouldn't mind — but Jason appeared and noted that he minds. He warned Luke never to say it wasn't his fault that Jake died.
Brenda did not want to go to the memorial because she doesn't know Liz and isn't close to Lucky. Plus, she was still upset about Carly dissing her, and didn't want to mix it up at the service. Sonny decided to stay with her — and then surprised her with a birthday cake. He insisted he always marked her birthdays — even when she was away! She made a wish, but wouldn't share it. At the Hub, Steve thanked Patrick for pitching in at the hospital, and praised Nikolas for sending domestic help to care for Cam and Aiden. Robin arrived with Emma, since nanny Stephanie was late. Kristina offered to take Emma to the park after her session with the psychiatrist. But then Steph arrived. Lisa noticed Krissy's interest in Emma, and after her appointment, Lisa approached the weepy girl. They talked about college and therapy, then Lisa said the rumors about her were untrue. Kristina noted there were unfair rumors floating around about herself last year.
After the memorial, Dante accompanied a sobbing Lulu to Crimson. She was upset Luke wasn't at the memorial. Then Mac texted him about taking Luke's statement. Luke returned to the Star to find Dante waiting — but he continued to drink. Luke said he was rushing to get to Lucky's wedding, but he didn't recall anything unusual. Lulu eavesdropped as Dante asked Luke how much he had been drinking.
Liz returned home with Nik, and remarked on Lucky's steadfast belief in God. She noted she doesn't share his faith, and wished God had been watching over Jake that night. Carly and Jax arrived to express their thanks for "the gift you gave our daughter." Liz encouraged Carly to cherish every moment with her daughter, "because it could be gone in a heartbeat." They left, and Liz asked Nik to leave. She pulled out Aiden's paternity-test results and read them. Then she tossed a vase of flowers against a wall. Carly went to see Joss, and found Jason reading the baby a book about Africa.
Michael returned to Abby's and told her that Jason wasn't there, Steve gave the eulogy, and Lucky was a wreck. Michael remarked about the unfairness of Jake dying in a traffic accident. Abby urged him to make his life count. Then she admitted she dropped the charges. He was furious. She tried to calm him with a hug, but backed away when she realized he was wearing a gun...

Lucky visited the Crimson offices looking for Lulu, but she wasn't there. Maxie thanked him on behalf of all transplant recipients for the gift of life. They shared coffee, and Lucky admitted being at a loss how to comfort Elizabeth. He noted that the memorial reminded him of It's a Wonderful Life, and wondered what Jake would have done with his life. Maxie assured him that while Jake's life was short, he was happy. Spinelli arrived, and Lucky left. Spin showed her his newly published book, and they chatted. "I'm always gonna love you," she said. He said she was the inspiration for the book and always will inspire him. As Lulu listened, Luke told Dante, "I was not impaired" when he hit Jake. There was no way to prove it either way, but Lulu was sure her father would never drive drunk. Dante said Jake's death is being ruled an accident. Lulu said Lucky is wrong to want to blame Luke, but asked her father to stop drinking until Lucky gets past it. "I am to blame," Luke croaked. Lulu worried about her brother and Liz, but Dante pointed out she can't fix everything for her entire family. Back a The Haunted Star, Luke suddenly put aside the booze and started drinking water. Shortly after, Lucky arrived, telling his father no charges will be filed. Lucky noticed the clear liquid in Luke's glass and accused him of switching to vodka.
Brenda unwrapped a birthday present from Sonny: a rose gold necklace. She thanked him for remembering her birthday. She said she always marks the day she had her miscarriage, and wonders what her son would have looked like. She kind of wonders if he's still out there somewhere. They decided to hire an investigator to look into it. Robin arrived, and wished her a happy birthday. After Sonny left, Brenda felt bad about opening presents while others are grieving. Robin told her that she and Patrick are back together, because she didn't want their past to get in the way of the future. Robin said Emma completes her family, and she loves being a mom. Sonny visited Josslyn, and Carly recounted the horror of being told Joss had cancer. Life is fragile, she noted, and so much is out of their control.
At the hospital, Jason read to Josslyn as Carly watched. Then Jason told her it helps to know Joss will be okay. Carly wants him to be as close with Joss as he is with Michael. Jason wondered what Joss will be like at Michael's age. Jason wanted to go after Franco, but Carly advised him to take time to grieve. At her place, Abby scolded Michael for having a gun, but he was determined not to leave her "unprotected," insisting Brandon is a crazy animal. "Brandon is not the guy who raped you," she told him, pointing out he's still coming to terms with his attack, and projecting. Michael went to the penthouse, but Jason wasn't there; Sam told him to stick around, and she left. Michael fingered the gun, but hid it when Jason returned, Meanwhile, Brandon went to Abby's place to "thank" her for dropping the charges. "I know you want me back," he hissed, and got rough. Jason told Michael about reading the Africa book to Joss, and encouraged Michael to let the past go and look to the future. "Your life is a gift; please make the most of it." Later, when Sam returned, he wondered if he was right to give up Jake — could he have done better for Jake than he did for Michael? Kids get sick, like Josslyn, and kids can die. "All I did was miss out on the chance to know my son."
Michael returned to Abby while truly mulling Jason's words — until he saw Abby's face. Then he rushed out. He found Brandon in the alley, and pointed his gun at the bully.
