Five Minutes With ... Sebastian Roché

He’s only back for a short spell, but Digest caught up with the busy actor to find out what he’s been up to in his time away from Port Charles — and what lies ahead for his dastardly alter ego, Jerry Jacks.
Soap Opera Digest: So, after leaving GH, you showed up on 24.

Sebastian Roché: Yes, that actually happened before I left GH. They were kind enough to let me go for a little while and we were able to coordinate both shoots at the same time. Of course, I appeared on 24 much later, since the season started much later. It was great to be on that show. I was so excited.

Digest: Then your character got killed off, freeing you to return to GH.

Roché: Yes. It really worked out very well [laughs].

Digest: What else were you up to while you were away?

Roché: I did the new Steven Spielberg/Peter Jackson movie, The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn. I play the part of the bad guy. Surprise [laughs]. He’s called Pedro. It’s a motion-capture movie, the same as in Beowulf [in which Roché played Wulfgar]. They actually asked me to come back and play another part, which was quite fun. So, I also played the first mate of the unicorn called Mr. Eccles. You have to know The Adventures Of Tintin, which is a series of comic books which is unbelievably popular all over the world, except in the States. It’s a bit like soccer [laughs].

Digest: Is it a coincidence that Jerry and Helena are in Port Charles at the same time?

Roché: It is interesting, isn’t it [laughs]? She’s wonderful. We didn’t have scenes but I met her. I’m a big fan. She’s a legend of the silver screen. I kept thinking, ‘That’s Constance Towers. Holy Mackerel!’ I know my movie history and I was in awe to be in her presence. She’s a legend. It’s extraordinary that she continues to pop up on GH. What a lovely person. Can you tell I’m a fan of hers [laughs]?

Digest: What do you think about the possibility of Jerry and Helena being in cahoots?

Roché: Tell Bob Guza [head writer]. I would jump at the chance to play that.
