Bernard Grant (ex-Steve): "I actually auditioned with him. We became pals and he was lovely. He wore these shoes that would creak and I always used to tease him about it. He was on another soap [GUIDING LIGHT] and he played Dr. Fletcher [from 1956-1970] and his shoes creaked. He kept the shoes. Literally, he'd walk on set and it'd be like 'reee, reeee!' [laughs]!"
