The mobsters in Port Charles these days are as dumb as the PCPD. If they were this dumb in real life, there'd be alot more of them in jail.
First, there's Ric. He's in possession of a DVD that has proof of who shot his nephew & he's more interested in protecting a conniving liar who's made no secret of her ever changing loyalties. Yet, he thinks his love will change her. Like Liz & Alexis's love changed him? He put himself in this position by not telling Sonny the truth.
Next on the list of dumb mobsters is Johnny. He's in, he's out. He can't make up his mind from one minute to the next.
Then, there's Jason, who has always been able to tell whether people were telling the truth or not, even when he hated the person. Now, all of a sudden, he can't? He can listen to Ric's story about Jerry's game with Claudia & not know instinctively that the only thing Ric's guilty of in this situation is being a self-serving Jackass. What happened to him being the brains in Sonny's organization?
Then, there's Sonny. He has a history of being the last to figure things out. But, lately, he's worse. Between Kate nearly telling him several times, Claudia's skittishness & her crawling all over his house, obviously looking for something & now, Ric telling Sonny about the DVDs, he should've figured out Claudia was behind the shooting. But, he's not sure if it's her or Ric (never mind that at the time, Ric was Anthony's new boy wonder & could've gotten one of his men, who are professionals, to do it, not hire an incompetant doctor).
Finally, the dumbest is Claudia. First, she hires an incompetant like Devlin, when she could've gotten one of Uncle Rudy's guys to do it if she didn't trust her father's men to do it. Then, she trusts Jerry not to speak out. Then, she get the bright idea of turning against her father when he knows the truth. She then, marries Sonny, knowing the truth could come out at any time. Now, she thinks getting pregnant is the solution. She also looks him in the eye & acts hurt that he'd believe Ric. Since she's incapable of telling the truth, she could have bought herself time by admitting she knew about the DVDs & say Jerry set her up. The only people who really know the truth are her brother, who won't tell, Jerry (who she thinks is dead) & her.
There is a long list of the dumb things they do. This is just the most recent behavior. The writers need to make these characters smarter if they're going to convince the audience they are the most powerful of the "Five Families".
