Today's episode was pre-empted. Happy Labor Day!

Tuesday

EJ was rushed into surgery after the shooting and his head was shaved as he was prepped for the operation. Stefano and Kate waited impatiently for an update. Bo arrived to get Kate's alibi. She flashed back to the phone call she placed to Sami before the shooting and told Bo she thinks she knows who is responsible. Victor heard and demanded to know; Kate pointed out that the DiMera/Kiriakas truce is over. Bo announced that justice will be served to whoever shot Elvis. Meanwhile, Daniel tried to remove the bullet from EJ's brain and he briefly flat-lined. Daniel was able to get his heart working again and remove the bullet.

After saying that falling in love with Rafe is the smartest thing she's ever done, Sami finally declared, "Hell, yes! I'll marry you!" and pulled him in for a passionate kiss. Rafe was eager to see the kids and share their happy news. So they went to the bar, where Caroline was happy for the couple. Sami told Johnny, who quickly pointed out that his daddy won't like his mommy with Rafe.

Victor told Brady that he's sending Vivian Tahiti for a while. Brady said he supports the idea, but wondered what Maggie will think if Victor goes head to head with Stefano again. Viv, meanwhile, overheard everything from the hall. Victor then phoned Maggie to discuss Brady and about what she witnessed the night before. He suggested Maggie go ahead leave town because he's worried about her safety now that he's feuding with Stefano. Maggie assured him that she hasn't changed her plans.

Nicole was disappointed that there wasn't an update about EJ on the news and wanted to go to the hospital so she can be there when she dies. Chloe advised her against it, to no avail. When Nic arrived, Stefano accused her of the shooting and declared revenge. Nic claimed her innocence.

Bo went to the pub to inform Sami and a shocked Rafe that EJ was shot. Sami felt weak and nearly passed out. "I can't believe he's dead," she said and was stunned when Bo explained that he's still alive. She flashed back to the shooting as Bo asked her where she was last night. Sami was miffed that Bo was trying to point a finger at her. Rafe tried to comfort Sami and offered his support. She broke down in his arms.

Chloe ran into Nathan, who congratulated her on her pregnancy. "And I assume any confusion about the father is cleared up," he added, which put Chloe on edge. She was insulted that he brought it up and they bickered. "Pompous idiot," Chloe spat after Nathan said she's overreacting. Meanwhile, Philip told Melanie he wants to have a celebration for Daniel and Chloe, which took her by surprise and she reminded him that he wasn't even happy when he found out about the baby. Mel wanted to throw Chloe a shower. On the other side of town, Stephanie pleaded with Ian to help her find out if it was Philip who changed the paternity test results, adding that if he did then she can help him keep the secret but worried about someone else being responsible. Ian reluctantly offered to help.

Back at the hospital, Daniel approached Stefano with an update on Elvis's operation. Stefano was elated that his son made it through. Daniel couldn't guarantee that there won't be brain damage, however. Stefano was crestfallen. Kate flashed back again to the phone call. "What have I done?" she asked herself. Later, Bo arrived to say that he'd talked to Sami, who is concerned about her kids losing their father. "Is that all?" Kate quipped.

Wednesday

Rafe comforted a weepy Sami. He promised her he would be there for her and the kids if EJ didn't make it.

At the Cheatin' Heart, Nathan reflected on his argument with Chloe. Just then, Chloe, Melanie and Philip walked in. Chloe and Nathan exchanged stilted greetings. Philip, Chloe and Melanie sat at a table and Melanie asked Chloe if she could throw her a baby shower. A thrilled Chloe said yes. When Melanie started talking details, Philip excused himself to talk to Nathan about the children's wing at the hospital. Stephanie arrived and misunderstood their conversation. She covered, then Nathan headed back to the hospital. Steph overheard the shower talk. Chloe and Melanie left to do some shower shopping. Stephanie sat down with Philip and tried to subtly grill him for info, but he realizes what she was doing and demanded to know what she wanted. The conversation was awkward as Steph fished around about his relationship with Chloe. He insisted there was no leftover drama with his ex, like there was with Steph. "Ouch," she replied. An annoyed Philip took off. After, Steph called Ian to tell him about the conversation and told him she would get Titan's internet service provider so he could see if Philip logged on when the test results were changed. They met at her apartment once she got the information and Ian cracked into the hospital's mainframe.

Bo checked in with Lexie at the hospital. Stefano wondered what Bo had done to find EJ's shooter. Bo revealed he had questioned Sami and Rafe. Carly came out with news: It appeared EJ was on the mend. Sami and Rafe arrived in time to hear. Gulp, thought Sami. Stefano wanted her to leave, but suggested that perhaps Sami was responsible for EJ's condition. She looked uncomfortable and acted skittish with Rafe. An alarm sounded in EJ's room. Stefano was concerned; a teary Lexie told him things were very serious and revealed that Sami is legally in charge of EJ's health care. Stefano flipped. Sami wasn't so happy, either.

Maggie searched airfares online. Her phone rang -- it was Victor. He asked if he could stop by to talk about some foundation business. Vivian overheard him on the phone. Maggie told him it wasn't a good time; they hung up.

Nathan arrived at the hospital, where Daniel asked him to keep an eye on Daniel's patients while he tended to EJ. Nathan congratulated Doc Jonas on the pregnancy.

After a huge shopping spree, Melanie and Chloe went to the Brady Pub. Carly joined them and they told her about the shower. Vivian entered and rattled all the women. Melanie stormed out. Carly revealed to Viv that she and Chloe had recently bonded. Viv was intrigued.

Bo tracked down Kate outside the Brady Pub and said he thought she knew more about EJ's shooting than she was letting on. She claimed she told him everything.

Thursday

At the hospital, Stefano accused Sami of shooting EJ. Rafe told him to back off and corroborated Sami's alibi; Stefano threatened to kill whoever did it. After, Daniel informed Stefano that there's been no change in Elvis's condition and that he still has limited brain function. A tearful Lexie tried her best to console Stefano and said they have to prepare themselves for the worst. Meanwhile, Sami asked Daniel how she should know if it's the right time to pull the plug. He couldn't help her, adding that every case is different.

At the Pub, Vivian was eager to figure out why Carly and Chloe were suddenly new BFFs. After she left, Chloe admitted that there's something she needs to tell Carly and finally admitted that, under Viv's influence, she tried to kill Carly when she thought she was sleeping with Daniel. Carly was shocked and angry. Chloe explained her case and tearfully said she's ashamed of her behavior. Carly was more interested in finding out how Chloe tried to kill her. So, she admitted to setting up the whole elevator accident.

Stefano went to EJ's bedside and tearfully admitted that he is his favorite son and broke down. He begged Elvis to fight. Meanwhile, Sami fretted about making the decision to take EJ off life support. Rafe suggested she just let him go, especially if he's going to die anyway, and make everyone's lives easier. Stefano forbid Sami from going into EJ's room but she reminded him that she's Elvis's medical guardian. After, Stefano attacked Rafe, who shot back by saying that he wished all the DiMeras were in EJ's state right now.

Maggie told Melanie she's hopeful that once she's out of town, Vivian will stop being a pest to everyone. Mel was bummed that Maggie was leaving town and called her out on taking the trip because of Victor. After reminding herself that she's doing it for her and Mickey, Maggie booked her trip. Meanwhile, Philip threatened Viv to stay away from his wife. Viv then told Phil that she's planning to move Isabella's body; he wasn't buying it and demanded to know what she's up to. She claimed she's being bullied and that people aren't giving her a second chance to do something nice. Phil was still miffed and refused to believe she even has a heart. Victor broke up their bickering.

Ian was having trouble trying to jump the firewall of St. Mary's Web site, much to Stephanie's chagrin. She was determined to find out who switched the paternity test. She surmised that Chloe got someone to do it for her, but still wanted to know for sure that Chloe was responsible and needed to figure out how to prove it. Nathan came home and was none too happy to see Ian there with his lady.

Daniel marveled at how Melanie and Chloe seem to be getting along. "It's like icing on the cake!" he smiled. Later, Maggie arrived to give Daniel a baby gift and say good-bye to him. Mel was still upset over the impending departure. Daniel said he doesn't think Maggie's trip will be comforting for her and urged her not to go. Meanwhile, Viv continued with her plan to bury Maggie alive.

In EJ's hospital room, Sami flashed back to the shooting and broke down. "You're Johnny and Sydney's dad! How could I do this?" she sobbed. Then EJ's eyes miraculously fluttered opened for a moment. Sami screamed for Lexie, who rushed in and tried to rouse him. Stefano was hopeful; Sami privately panicked. Stefano accused Sami of secretly wishing that EJ had never opened his eyes. "Because if he wakes up, you know what will happen," he seethed. Then a tearful Lexie approached with an update.

Friday

Lexie tearfully informed Stefano that EJ's still in a coma, even after his
eyes fluttered open. Kate pulled Sami aside and said they needed to talk.
After distracting Rafe, Sami confronted Kate who demanded to know if Sami
shot EJ. Meanwhile, Abe told Stefano that they might have a lead on a
suspect and that the forensics on the bullet are rather revealing. Sami
denied everything to Kate, who surmised that her phone call before the
shooting prompted Sami to take action. Sami was insistent that she was at
home with Rafe all night long; Kate asked her to keep mum about the call.

At the Pub, Will was looking for Sami. Caroline informed him that his mom's
at the hospital and that she's tried to call but can't reach her. Later,
Rafe arrived and informed Will that EJ was shot. Will rushed off to see his
mom.

Chloe apologized again to Carly for trying to kill her and was surprised
that Carly was willing to forgive and forget. She worried about Vivian
interfering again. Meanwhile, At the mausoleum, Gus worried about Vivian's
plan backfiring. She wasn't concerned and happily pointed out that Maggie
will get to see everything from the internal video feed she had installed in
the coffin and surmised that Maggie die from the toxic paint fumes. She then
ordered Gus to get into the sarcophagus so she could test the video feed
monitor. Gus panicked and started to scream, which a delighted Viv couldn't
hear. She was happy that her plan would work just as well on Maggie.

At Stephanie's, Nathan asked what's going on between her and Ian. He called
her out on hiding something. She was upset by Nathan's accusatory tone and
covered. Nathan told her she's lame if she doesn't realize that Ian's got a
huge crush on her. She laughed it off and they kissed. After, Nathan
returned to work. Steph called Ian, who said the best way to prove that
Chloe switched the test is to access her computer. So, she hightailed it
over to Chloe's unannounced and eyed the laptop.

Carly showed up at the mausoleum and told Viv she'll never get away with
whatever twisted plan she has in store and didn't by the Isabella cover.
They traded barbs and Carly told Viv that Chloe told her everything about
the elevator accident. "She's one taco short of a combination platter," Viv
reasoned and said Carly's threats are empty.

Melanie was bummed that Maggie won't be around to help her plan Chloe's baby
shower and talked Maggie into delaying her trip to do it. Mel fretted to
Daniel about how much she's worried about Maggie. Later, Maggie was touched
when she overheard Victor sharing a sweet moment with Ciara, who said she
doesn't want to live with Carly but with her grandpa. When she returned
home, Maggie scolded herself for being so turned on by Victor and told Mel
she'd changed her mind about delaying her trip. Mel wondered if Victor had
anything to do with it; Maggie denied it. Melanie told her she shouldn't be
afraid of her feelings.

Back at the hospital, Sami continued to freak out about what she'd done.
Will showed up; she told him to stay away but he refused and said that he
knows what she did to EJ because he was at the DiMeras when it happened.
Sami was outraged that Will put himself in danger but he countered that she
was doing the same thing and he saw her with a gun. "Mom, you shot EJ," he
said. Sami freaked and made sure Will hasn't told anyone else what he saw.
He was upset that his mom would hurt the father of her own children. Abe
pointed out that a silencer was used on the gun used to shoot EJ which means
the gun came from inside the house.

Stefano told Kate that Sami would've known about the hidden gun because she
lived at the DiMera manse and remains convinced that Sami shot EJ but was
confused about why she'd risk everything. "The timing just doesn't make
sense!" he said and wondered why she'd even come to the house. Kate,
meanwhile, flashed back to the call.

In the waiting room, Arianna urged Rafe not to focus on nabbing EJ but
helping Sami put her life back together. She then told EJ she doesn't think
he deserved being shot. Rafe, meanwhile, walked in on Will and Sami's
emotional encounter. They both covered. Rafe said he thinks the shooting was
a paid hit.
