Monday

At the Pub, Philip left apologetic messages for Morgan. Stephanie and Max discussed Caroline's situation. Melanie came in just as they were talking about Caroline getting released. Melanie was surprised. Steph asked if Melanie thought Caroline was a killer. Philip interrupted, saying that Melanie was so convinced of Caroline's innocence that she asked him for help. He explained to Steph and Max how he met Melanie and didn't know who she was but felt sorry for her. Philip walked to the bar. Melanie noted how hot he was. Max pulled Mel outside and told her not to go to the Kiriakis family for help. He then warned her that Philip was a player. She didn't care.

At the bar, Chelsea reamed out Philip for what he did to Morgan. He admitted that he was sorry and felt awful and asked his niece to let Morgan know that. Chelsea said she was still annoyed with him for what he did and wasn't sure she would. The conversation turned to Kate. Philip agreed that it was wrong of Daniel and Kate to keep the truth from Chelsea, but asked if Chelsea could take it easy on Kate. Chelsea wondered if Kate was sicker than she thought. He replied that it was complicated, then admitted that yes, Kate was sick, but he couldn't tell her with what because he didn't want to betray his mother's trust. "Is she going to die?" a guilt-ridden, teary Chels asked. Philip assured her that Kate was a fighter and they needed to stay positive. He went to make a phone call. Steph came over and asked if Chelsea was okay. Chelsea told her that Kate was seriously ill. She began to cry, admitting that she was mad and Kate about Daniel and mad at Kate because she couldn't be mad at her. Steph suggested Chelsea call Daniel for info. Chelsea left her ex a message.

Outside of the Pub, Philip asked Max if he could talk to Melanie. Max wasn't thrilled, but went inside. Philip told Melanie that he did a little digging around for her about Trent. She admitted she was happy he was dead, then started to cry. She needed a tissue, but dropped her bag in the process. He spied a wallet on the ground and handed it to her.

EJ went for a run, then called the mansion, looking for Samantha. He learned she never came home. At the Horton cabin, Sami woke up in Lucas's bed, but imagined EJ next to her, not Lucas. She kissed him. They both woke up and realized what was going on. Sami was aghast and told Lucas not to kiss her. He told her to relax and assured her nothing happened. He apologized for the kiss, saying, "You're in love with EJ and I'm in love with Chloe." After, he urged her to come clean with EJ about the pregnancy.

Marlena called Mickey from the hospital, saying she'd be by to pick up her divorce papers. Kayla overheard the discussion and asked Marlena if she was sure that's what she wanted to do. She warned Marlena against giving up too soon. Marlena insisted she had to move on with her life. Kayla thought she was making a mistake, then changed her mind and suggested Doc Evans serve John with the divorce papers to rattle him.

In the DiMera mansion, Stefano read to Johnny. John came in and noted that Stefano must be getting desperate to recruit such a young soldier. Stefano countered that it's never too young to get started. John began to have another headache episode and said that the construction in the house didn't help. Stefano suggested he move out. "Not an option," John replied, then restated his intention to control the DiMera empire. He walked out, in search of champagne. EJ stormed in, asking if Samantha was there. He put Johnny down for a nap, then returned to talk to Stefano. He asked if his father had anything to do with Sami's disappearance, but the Phoenix insisted he didn't and noted that EJ was overreacting. EJ had a meeting, so Stefano offered to watch Johnny since the nanny had the afternoon off. EJ said no, then reluctantly agreed. He called Sami's cell. She picked up and heard the alarm in his voice. She told him she was okay and that she had texted him that she wouldn't be coming home the night before. She told him they needed to talk.

John called a board member to talk about replacing Stefano as CEO.... Stefano took Johnny for a stroll in the cemetery to teach him about his ancestors. There, he got a call informing him about John's takeover plan. Sami came upon them and demanded to know what Stefano was doing with her son in a cemetery. He said he was babysitting. She said EJ knew she didn't like Stefano spending time with Johnny, but Stefano noted that he was the boy's grandfather and that Johnny would carry on his legacy. Her cell phone rang; it was EJ, asking where she was. She told him about running into Stefano — and how she wasn't happy about it. She took Johnny and headed out to meet EJ. Stefano told her he hoped they would bless him with more grandchildren soon. Lucas came into Chez Rouge and spied EJ and assumed Sami had given him the baby news. Sami, meanwhile, blew off her talk with EJ and went back to the Horton cabin.

Marlena went to the DiMera mansion to give John the divorce papers. He admitted he thought she changed her mind. She told him it was too late for that. He said it wasn't, then grabbed her and kissed her.

Tuesday

Marlena tried to pull out of John's kiss, but he wouldn't let her. He asked her to go upstairs with him, but she said no. She broke his embrace and handed him the divorce papers. He told her she was making a mistake. She replied that he was making the mistake by not going to the hospital to find out what's wrong with him. He blew it off, noting that migraines were common. He then asked what he had to do to convince her to stay in their marriage. "Go to the hospital. Get those tests run," she said. He refused, but still tried to persuade her to stay in the marriage. She tearily told him that they couldn't keep hurting each other. He recounted all the things he had done for her. She told him she wanted one thing: her husband back. "Do you think you could be that person?" she asked. "No," he replied. She implored him to sign the papers and left, though both were emotionally distraught.

At Chez Rouge, Lucas asked EJ if he was cool with what Sami told him. EJ asked what he meant. Lucas covered when he realized EJ didn't speak to Sami yet. EJ noted that Sami had been acting strangely lately. He asked Lucas what Sami's news was. Lucas claimed he didn't know. Nicole walked in and spied EJ at the bar. She asked Lucas to scram so she could talk to EJ. Once alone with EJ, Nicole tried to get his undivided attention, but he told her he didn't have time to talk because he had a meeting. An emotional Nicole told him that she wasn't going away and that he needed to talk to her. He asked if she was free that weekend, but she sarcastically replied that she was all booked up with dates. They sat down. She asked why he rushed out on their date the night before. He told her that Sami fainted, and he was hoping she'd tell him why when she arrived there. Nicole was deflated to hear that Sami was EJ's meeting. He said because they shared a son, Sami would always be important in his life."I shouldn't have come here. I don't know what I was thinking," Nicole sighed. Nicole blamed herself for allowing him to ping-pong between her and Sami. He apologized for giving her mixed signals. She laid it on the line and asked him who he was going to build a life with: her or Sami. He said he couldn't do that. She said he didn't have to cut Sami out of his life completely, but she wanted to know who had his heart. He said he cared about her and Samantha very much, which gave her her answer. He asked what she wanted to tell him. She said it didn't matter anymore and left. Marlena came in and sat down with EJ. She talked to him about John's "episodes" and asked him to talk to John about them. EJ said he would.

At the cabin, Sami found a rattle bearing the Phoenix logo in Johnny's diaper bag and wondered how she would protect her children from Stefano. She had a nightmare about a grown-up Johnny smoking cigars and drinking with his grandfather. Lucas came in as Sami woke up frightened. She recounted her run-in in the cemetery with Stefano, then announced that she decided not to tell EJ that he was the father of her baby. He didn't think it was a good idea and said he would tell EJ himself. "You wouldn't dare," she gasped, then followed him out after he left the cabin.

Stefano noted John's foul mood and advised his brother to steer clear of Marlena. "She's a dangerous woman and she will destroy your life," the Phoenix warned. Stefano added that he used to be in love with Marlena. "I think the word obsessed was tossed around a few times," John noted. Stefano urged John to sign the divorce papers and be done with Doc Evans. John had a seizure and fell to the floor. Stefano watched him from the doorway. Nicole rushed in and found him on the floor. She wanted to call an ambulance, but he refused. He said he would make an appointment for a checkup, then asked what she was doing there. She told him she didn't need his help getting EJ because she doesn't want EJ to be a part of her or her baby's life. John noted that it would be tough for her to raise a child on her own, especially now that she was broke. He offered to pay her bills, but she said she didn't want his money, she wanted his friendship.

Wednesday

Lucas returned to the cabin and assured Sami that he didn't tell EJ the truth about the baby. He urged her to let EJ know he was going to be a father again. Lucas reminded her of how hard it was for him to miss the first years of Will's life. Sami insisted it was a different situation. "You got to stop messing with people's lives," Lucas warned. He then told her that he cares about her and just wants her to be happy and if EJ makes her happy, then he was okay with that. She confided that she wasn't sure EJ even wanted her anymore. Lucas advised her to talk to Roman and Marlena about her problems.

Stephanie and Max spent a romantic time in bed. He thanked her for getting his mind off of everything. After, they got dressed and Max was dismayed to see a sensational headline about Caroline's arrest. Steph wanted to do a little investigating on their own, but Max cautioned her against it. She asked why. He just said he didn't want Steph involved. She concluded that he was covering for Melanie. An argument ensued, where Steph noted that Melanie was lying and manipulative. Max told her to back off and insisted he wouldn't throw his mother under the bus to protect Melanie.

Roman and Bo went over the murder case. Roman thought Nicole was their No. 1 suspect, but Bo felt it was Melanie. In the cemetery, Melanie sat by Trent's murder site. She had a flashback to being with him there the night he was killed, where they fought over his debt and she pulled a knife on him. She told him she wasn't going to kill him, but she said if he didn't leave her alone, she would disappear. When she tried to walk away, he grabbed her roughly and told her she couldn't go.

A drunken Nick was brought into the police station. Bo and Roman asked what was going on with him. Nick explained that he was single, behind on his credit card bills, had chipped his tooth on popcorn and felt it was his fault that Trent is dead since he came to Salem in the first place because of Nick's prototype. While Nick was being questioned by the cops, an irate Maggie came in and chastised her nephew. He vowed never to drink alcohol again. Maggie asked how it happened. He explained that Dr. Jonas walked into the Cheatin' Heart, where Nick was drinking, and Nick wanted to punch him. Nick then realized he still had feelings for Chelsea. Maggie urged him to tell Chelsea the truth, but he said they were just friends. What about Melanie, she asked.

Roman and Bo resumed their discussion. The Mayor came in to the office to talk to them about the investigation. His cryptic visit rattled the Brady boys. They wanted to get Max off of the suspect list and went to his room with a search warrant. "This is insane. He is your brother," Steph pointed out. Roman and Bo noted that he was still a suspect. One of the cops found Max's bloody shirt. Max admitted he had an altercation with Trent the night he died, but insisted he didn't kill the dean. They hauled him to the station, where Roman and Bo laid into him for keeping silent. "You put us in a really tough spot," Roman told him. "You just went to the top of our suspect list," Bo exploded, then took Steph outside. Roman questioned Max one on one. A cop brought in the lab results, which showed that the blood on Max's shirt was Trent's and that the fibers they found on Trent's body were from Max's shirt. Stephanie called Melanie and asked her to come to the cop shop because they were questioning Max. Melanie arrived and Stephanie told her that she wasn't fooled by Mel's innocent act where Max was concerned. "You pretend to be devoted to him, to love him, when all you're doing is using him," Steph spat. Melanie accused Steph of being "creepily possessive" of Max. They bickered. Roman interrupted by calling Steph into his office to question her, too. Outside, Melanie eavesdropped, then took Trent's wallet out of her purse an eyed it suspiciously.

Thursday

At the police station, Max insisted to Stephanie that he didn't kill Trent, but that he's willing to take the rap if it gets Caroline off the hook. Bo walked in and told Max that he's free to go. The cop explained that "the case against Ma is stronger." Bo swore to Max that he won't let Caroline go down for this. While the others were distracted, Melanie slipped something into Stephanie's bag. After dismissing Max and Stephanie, Bo told Mel that he wanted to talk to her. She gave him some major 'tude when he suggested she get a lawyer, so he ushered her into his office. She said that her father had a lot of enemies and any one of them might have killed him. Bo accused her of playing a "little game" and promised to catch her when she slips up.

Nicole was lunching at Chez Rouge when Philip stopped by her table. He told her that he and Morgan broke up and the belle moved to Chicago. Nic asked if he's over Chloe, then doubted his claim that he's happy to have the singer as a friend. Nic got him to admit that he and Chloe are attracted to each other, but he maintained that she's better off with Lucas. Nicole thought otherwise and badmouthed Lucas. Talk turned to Trent's murder. Nic couldn't believe that the police arrested Caroline. "There's no way she could have knifed that bastard in cold blood," declared Nicole, adding that she bets the murderer is whoever has Trent's wallet. When Nic stepped away to answer a call about Pookie's play date, Philip phoned Bo to say that he has a tip.

Kate was a naughty hospital patient, taking off her breathing tube and trying to get out of bed. Patrick came in and coaxed her back into bed. He patiently insisted that they must wait for the test results from her biopsy. She complained that she may not have much time left and didn't want to spend it in the hospital. Patrick counseled her to have a more positive outlook. When he went to find out about her test results (which were not ready yet), she got dressed and insisted that she was going to go home.

Hope dropped by a hungover Nick's cell. He asked if she was there as a cousin or as a cop. Neither, she said, telling him that she was there as a friend. She asked about his drunk driving, Nick said he did something stupid, but won't repeat it. Hope however wouldn't let him off the hook and continued to lecture him about his behavior. Chelsea came by and joined in. A teary Nick was filled with self-loathing. After Hope exited, Chelsea asked her what happened to his hand. A lurking Mel listened in as he made up an excuse about it, then she made a quick visit to the prisoner. When he was finally alone, Nick asked himself, "What have I done?"

Abe and Lexie took Theo to the park to stay with Lacy for a few hours. The Carvers went to Chez Rouge for a meeting about Abe's campaign. Mayor Marino strolled up and smirked about Abe going after his job. "May the best man win," responded Abe. Marino got in some digs about how the Carvers will fare in the spotlight, and even made a rude comment about their "slow" child. This only made Abe more eager to whup him in the election.... At the park, Lacy chattered on her cell phone and didn't notice when Theo walked off.

Max and Stephanie went to the Brady Pub, where he told Caroline that he's sorry he didn't get arrested for Trent's murder so that she'd be in the clear. She lovingly assured him that Bo and Hope will find the real killer..... Back at the police department, Bo told Hope that he suspects Melanie snuffed her father.... Philip met Bo and Hope at the station. When he saw that Melanie was outside Bo's office, Philip said that he hadn't called about an actual "tip" but wanted to make a financial contribution to help the department. "That was odd," observed Bo after Philip left. Kiriakis made a beeline to Melanie and threatened to tell Bo that she has her dad's wallet. At the pub, Max knocked over Stephanie's purse and found — the wallet!.... Abe and Lexie returned to the park and Lacy ran up to them screaming that she lost their little boy.

Friday

Nicole was waiting for food at the Brady Pub, where she ran into Sami, who was there to meet Roman and Marlena. Nicole snidely noted that Sami had gained weight. Both women were nauseated by a plate of steamed clams.

Outside of the Pub, Roman asked Marlena what was going on with her and John. She explained that John wasn't the same man anymore and is hoping he'll seek treatment for his headaches. They went inside to talk to Sami. Marlena asked why Sami asked to meet them. Sami claimed it was because she missed them both. Her parents didn't buy it. Roman asked what the real reason was. "Have you done something wrong?" Marlena queried. Sami admitted she was in big trouble and needed their guidance. She tried to extract a promise from them that they wouldn't tell anybody what she was about to tell them, but given her track record, both were dubious to make such a promise. She talked around the situation, then decided not to come clean about her pregnancy and rushed out. Marlena suspected it had something to do with EJ.

EJ found John in the living room at the DiMera mansion and asked John how he felt. John told him to go away, so EJ told him that Marlena asked EJ to speak to John about his health. John said that there wasn't a doctor in the world who could cure what he had. EJ pointed out that John didn't know that. "So you're just going to give up?" EJ added. John said he was prepared to die if that was what was meant to happen. EJ said John was being foolish, but added that he felt sorry that Stefano had taken John's memories and emotions away and left him like he is. EJ implored him to see Kayla, but John yelled that he wouldn't and told EJ to mind his own business. EJ walked out. John made a phone call to Nicole and asked her to come to the mansion. She arrived and he asked if he seemed like a person who was incapable of normal human emotions. She said no, but that he was practical and in control of his feelings. "You're just misunderstood, like me," she reasoned. He urged her to tell Elvis about the baby. EJ came in at the tail end of their conversation. "Are you going to tell him or should I?" asked John. Sami entered the house in time to hear Nicole announce to EJ that she is pregnant with his baby.

In the park, a frantic Abe and Lexie searched for Theo after Lacy, the sitter, couldn't find him. Lexie got increasingly upset; Abe tried to calm her down. An officer approached them with an item they found of Theo's. Lexie sobbed hysterically.

At the hospital, Daniel asked Chelsea if she had seen Kate, but Chelsea replied that they weren't speaking. Daniel urged Chelsea to try and get Kate to get back to the hospital because her life depended on it. Chelsea asked what he meant. Daniel confirmed that Kate was sick, but wouldn't say with what, then said that he needed to run more tests. During their chat, Theo ran to Chelsea and handed her his toy giraffe. Daniel called a relieved Lexie, who reported to Abe that Theo was at the hospital with Chelsea. Chelsea asked Theo if he came to see her. He nodded yes and gave her a hug, which melted her heart. The Carvers rushed in, thrilled to see their son and took him for ice cream in the park. They talked about how happy they were that Theo had bonded with Chelsea. Abe asked Theo to give them a hug, but he didn't. Back at the hospital, Daniel asked Chelsea if they could be friends. She said she didn't think it was possible. He told her he missed her. "I'm really sorry to hear you say that, because I've moved on and I really feel like you should, too," she responded.
