DAYS Week of November 17, 2008
Monday
In his room at the DiMera mansion, a shirtless EJ pulled back the covers and waited in bed for Nicole. Downstairs, Brady arrived; Nicole opened the door and was surprised to see him. He said he needed to talk to her and make amends as part of his rehab. She pointed out that she did horrible things to him and Chloe and the conversation was making her uncomfortable. He said he wanted to start over. She brushed past any further discussion of their past and revealed that she was pregnant by EJ. He was surprised, then congratulated and hugged her. EJ walked in on their embrace. A nervous Nicole introduced the men. Brady apologized for coming at a bad time, but EJ excused himself, claming he had somewhere to be. Nicole walked him to the front door and asked why he was leaving. He noted that it sounded like Brady needed a friend and that he and Nicole would have a lifetime of afternoons together. They kissed and she promised to be waiting for him when he got back. Nicole returned to the living room to talk to Brady. He told her that he knew she and John were friends and asked about his dad. Brady asked her to help him get through to John. "If you give him a chance, you might actually like John 2.0," Nic said. "That is not going to happen," Brady replied. They talked some more and then Brady thanked her for her help and left.
At the Cheatin' Heart, Ray, the caretaker at the cemetery, fingered Nick as the man he saw there the night Trent was killed. Bo and Hope were stunned and Hope asked if he was sure. He insisted he was. After Ray left, Bo and Hope discussed the case and deduced that Nick was covering for Melanie.
An upset Melanie was rattled to find a photo of her and Trent in her suitcase. Nick told her not to think about it, but she cried that she killed him so how could she do that. Nick hugged her and had a flashback of stabbing Trent in the back while Melanie was passed out. He apologized for sending her those notes and making everything worse. She declared that she had to turn herself into the police. He said she couldn't, but she noted that it wasn't his call. He said okay, but pointed out that he would be arrested right along with her because he's an accomplice. She agreed to keep quiet. He suggested running away and she said she'd go anywhere with him.
Marlena and John ran into each other at the police station. She tried to talk to him about Brady, but John shrugged that talking to his son was like talking to a stranger. After, John went into Roman's office to tell him that he hired a private investigator to find the mayor's killer. Roman suspected John was doing it to curry favor with Marlena and suggested that John worry more about Brady than Sami. John told Roman to mind his own business.
Bo and Hope arrived at Maggie's house, looking for Melanie and Nick. Maggie said his car wasn't in the driveway and called out for them but nobody replied. Bo and Hope questioned Maggie about Nick. Maggie reluctantly admitted that Nick had been agitated recently, probably because of the painkillers he was taking. Hope pointed out that Nick's mother didn't do so well when she took them. Hope then poked around and realized that Nick and Mel had taken off. Maggie was alarmed that Nick was in serious trouble.
EJ went to Marlena's townhouse to talk about Brady. He revealed that Brady was at the manse gabbing with Nicole and asked if he should be worried about that. Marlena advised him not to borrow trouble and just have faith in Nicole, then added that it was sweet to see EJ so smitten. She suggested he ask Nicole about Brady. "If she knows that it bothers me, I'll lose all my power," EJ remarked. Marlena chided him for that comment, then told him to go home and talk to Nicole. She opened the door to find Brady there. EJ took the opportunity to get some things straight with him.... Nicole called John and asked him to come to the mansion. When he arrived, Nicole told him about her conversation with Brady.
Nick and Melanie arrived at an airport hotel to wait for their flight to Las Vegas. Nick told her they would get married there. "Married?" she gulped. He explained that it was the only way they wouldn't have to testify against each other and vowed to take care of everything. He went to make them drinks and began stabbing at the ice in the bucket with an icepick. Melanie flashed back to the night in the cemetery and realized that Nick killed her father.
Tuesday
EJ confronted Brady about Nicole. He warned Brady about agitating Nicole in her condition, then added that since he was pals with John, he could help Brady mend fences with his father. After, EJ took off. Meanwhile, at the DiMera mansion, Nicole tried to get through to John about Brady. After, John went to Marlena's apartment, but found Brady there instead. It was awkward, but Brady told John that he was thinking about moving back to Salem permanently. John noted that he shouldn't be a factor in Brady's decision, but Brady felt otherwise.
An amorous EJ returned to the manse and made love to Nicole.
At the airport hotel, Melanie panicked when she realized that Nick killed Trent. She suggested they go home, but Nick said no, they were going to Vegas to get married. Nick popped another painkiller that he downed with booze. He tried to get her to relax and urged her to take a bath and have a drink. She wanted to take her purse into the bathroom, but he told her she couldn't take her phone. He said he needed to disable it so no one could find them. A woozy Nick then decided she couldn't take a bath and sat with her on the couch. He told her he loved her and kissed her. She was uncomfortable, but went along with it. He talked about what it would be like once they were married and she was jumpy and fidgety. She offered to make him a drink and palmed the ice pick. She put it in her back pocket and returned to the couch. Nick began to make out with her and found the weapon. Melanie freaked out as Nick began to yell at her. She broke a glass on him and tried to run out of the room, but he stopped her and grabbed her. "You just made a very big mistake," he warned. She pleaded with him to let her go and ran for the ice pick. He grabbed it out of her hands.
Chelsea and Max went to Maggie's to talk about Nick and Melanie with Bo, Hope and Maggie. Bo told them that Nick and Mel took off. They discussed the case. Maggie found the threatening note and brought it to the Bradys. Bo and Hope showed it to Max and Chelsea. Maggie said the stationery was hers. A shocked Chels realized that it was Nick's handwriting. The Bradys returned to the station. Bo put out an APB on the duo. Hope worried about her cousin. While waiting for news, Hope put it together that Nick was at the cemetery and most likely is Trent's killer.
Chelsea and Max went to the Cheatin' Heart so he could work. They tried to figure out what was going on with Nick and the note. "I told my sister not to do anything to hurt Nick. I guess I got it backward," Max sighed.
Stephanie met with Philip at the Brady Pub to discuss the internship at Titan. Maggie called during the meal and to see if they knew anything about Nick and Melanie. Philip realized that Steph wasn't a fan of Max's sis. The duo arrived at Maggie's house. She thought Nick was at the door, and left the room in tears when she realized it wasn't him. Steph's cell phone rang; it was Nick. The phone, which was on the floor of the hotel room, had mistakenly dialed her. "What are you going to do, kill me like you killed your father?" Melanie shrieked.
Wednesday
The standoff between Nick and Melanie continued at the airport motel. Stephanie, who was with Philip at Maggie's house, heard their argument through Nick's cell phone, which accidentally dialed her. Nick tried to make Melanie think that she was delusional and that he didn't kill her father, but she said she knew the truth now. "And I'm sorry you do," Nick said somberly. "You'll never know how sorry I am." Through the phone, Philip and Steph heard a plane in the background, then got disconnected. Philip deduced they were at the airport and the duo headed out. Back in the room, Melanie yelled for Nick to leave her alone and told him that she hated him. Nick insisted that he never meant to hurt her. "I did this for you. I did everything to make your life better. Please, you have to forgive me," he plead. She told him to call the police and confess. "But I'd go to prison ... I'd never see you again," he pointed out, then turned nasty, threw her on the couch and accused her of playing him. She calmly asked him to tell her about the night Trent died. A teary-eyed Nick detailed how he heard Trent and Melanie arguing in the cemetery and saw Trent push Melanie to the ground, where she was knocked out. Nick grabbed the knife and plunged it into Trent's back. "Seeing him hurt you like that ... I lost my mind," Nick explained. Melanie cried. Nick told her about Willow, noting that the situation with Trent's murder seemed familiar. Melanie and tried to make him think that she wanted to run away with him, but he didn't believe her.
Bo offered to deal with the Nick situation since he was Hope's cousin. Hope kicked herself for not seeing the signs sooner and vowed to be there for Nick. Bo got a lead on Nick and Mel's whereabouts. Steph and Philip arrived at the station and told them about the call. The Bradys rushed out to the motel. Once they were gone, Philip poked around on Bo's computer and found out Nick and Melanie were at the Salem Airway Motel. They went there, too and tried to go in the service entrance to avoid detection by Bo and Hope.
At the hospital, Kate woke up to find Daniel in her room. She told him she had a dream that he saved her. She assured Daniel that she wasn't expecting to be saved and insisted that she had lived a good life.
Lucas and Chloe met up at the Brady Pub. He surprised her with photos of a five-bedroom house he put a bid on for them. He said it was to show her how committed he is to their relationship. She told him about Brady's return to Salem and how they had run into each other. Chloe said it made her realize how lucky she is to have Lucas. "You've domesticated me," she beamed. After, they went to visit Kate, who was listening to music. They remarked that she looked good. Daniel came in during their visit with her test results. Her first round of chemo was successful and the tumor shrunk significantly. Everyone was thrilled. Daniel left them to celebrate. Chloe did, too. Kate noted that Chloe had been very kind to her and that it was clear that she made Lucas happy. Lucas showed Kate the house flyer, then revealed that he planned to ask Chloe to marry him. Kate was surprised he was moving so fast and advised him to be cautious. Daniel went to the park to unwind. Chloe ran into him there. She noted that he seemed down, despite Kate's positive news. He admitted that he tends to get too emotionally involved with his patients, which isn't a good thing. He asked her to keep their conversation between them. "My lips are sealed," she smiled.
Back at the motel, Melanie tried to get away from Nick. When he turned his back, Melanie ran for the balcony. Bo and Hope arrived outside of the door and heard Melanie scream. They banged on the door, but there was no answer. As Bo kicked it in, a distracted Nick let go of Melanie, who fell over the balcony.
Thursday
Nicole worked out at the gym and ran into Brady. He wondered if lifting weights was okay in her condition. She said it was, then got hit with a pain. She asked how long he planned to stay in Salem. He responded that he was mulling a permanent return. He then offered her friendship anytime she needed it and gave her his phone number.
Stefano and EJ chatted at the mansion. Stefano said he had to do some research on the future DiMera heir. EJ asked what he meant. Stefano explained that he wanted to know about a name, gender, etc, but EJ told him they didn't know what they were having. Stefano handed over documents that he wanted EJ to sign that guaranteed the Phoenix visitation with the tot. An outraged EJ told him to mind his own business. Stefano tried to mend fences and offered to have the cook prepare a family feast. EJ said no, but his
father insisted. After, Stefano told his son that he wanted EJ to be his true heir to the family business. EJ turned him down, but Stefano changedhis mind by reminding him that the lap of luxury EJ has been living in came along with it.
Bo and Hope rushed into Nick and Melanie's room right as she went over the balcony. From the ground, Philip urged her to hang on. Bo tried to pull Melanie back up, but he couldn't. Bo told his brother to go to the fire escape so he could help. Hope trained her gun on Nick, who called out to Melanie that everything would be okay. Bo and Philip saved Mel. Nick grabbed his pills and went to leave when Hope turned her back, but Hope caught him and arrested him.
Abe held a press conference at the Brady Pub. A woman named Donna, who led an autism support group, was there and chatted with Lexie. She had four children and worked with Abe on a committee. Chelsea came in to pick up an order for Kate and said hello the Carvers. After, Lexie marveled to Kate how Donna got it all done. Donna then asked her to join the Environmental Task Force. She accepted. Abe was thrilled.
Nicole returned home, where EJ told her (awkwardly, in front of Stefano) that he was getting involved in the family business. After Stefano retired for the evening, EJ and Nicole got romantic.
Steph called Chelsea to tell her that they were at the police station with Nick. Max arrived, too. He thanked Philip for saving Melanie. Chelsea and Stephanie excoriated Melanie for ruining Nick's life, which devastated her. In Bo's office, Hope and Bo questioned her cousin, who was still out of it. "My first arrest as police commissioner," Bo sighed. "Sorry, Fancy Face." Maggie rushed in and took Nick in her arms. After, he was booked. He passed his weepy pals on the way out and stopped to talk to Melanie. "I did
everything for you. I love you so much," he told her. He also apologized to Max. After, Max took his hysterical sister in his arms.
Friday
Sami was surprised to see in the paper that Nick killed Trent. Sami asked Rafe why the Feds couldn't find the mayor's killer. Rafe pointed out that since she was hiding her pregnancy, it was best for her to be in the safe house anyway. She begged him to open a window or at least pull the drapes, but he said no. She lost it a little and cried. He told her to buck up and then put the football game on. She turned it off. He got annoyed and put his headphones on to tune her out. She calmly plead with him to let her get some air. He explained that it was too dangerous, then relented and let her look
outside. She was thrilled. She spied a church spire and he told her that the church used to be a convent and orphanage when he was a kid.
EJ planned a romantic surprise for Nicole — a mountain resort getaway — and he even packed her bags for her. Nicole was thrilled and went upstairs to get ready. A lurking Stefano told his son he would need to reschedule because something had come up with the business. Nicole came back downstairs and Stefano told her about the urgent business and apologized for ruining the rendezvous. EJ assured her that it wasn't canceled, just delayed, and he would meet Nicole up there. She thanked him, noting that nobody had ever done something so sweet and thoughtful for her. EJ said he wanted to get to know her better.
John met with Steve in an alley and handed him an envelope of cash. Steve gave him an update about the mayor's investigation. At Marlena's apartment, a man dressed all in black awaited her return. John called Marlena and told her that he would have news about the mayor's killer soon. Marlena asked if John planned to spend time with Brady, too. John said he didn't have time for that; he was only focused on the killer. They hung up. The attacker came after Marlena and demanded to know where Sami was or else he'd kill her. She pushed the man away and called John. Before she could get anything out besides hello, the attacker came to, clutching a rope that he planned to use on Doc Evans. A gun-toting John entered, so the man grabbed Marlena. A standoff ensued.
Kayla approached Steve at the Brady Pub. He was on his laptop, but wouldn't disclose what he was investigating — for her protection. She called him on it, so he admitted that John hired him to help find the mayor's killer. She didn't like him working with John.
Nicole checked into the luxury cabin EJ booked. She spied a sweet treat and note from EJ. EJ, who was with Stefano, worried about Nicole and wanted to go to the cabin. Stefano sighed that he may have made a mistake putting so much stock in EJ's future with the business, so EJ backed down and asked Stefano what business they had. Stefano said he would explain on the plane. "The plane?" EJ exclaimed. "Where are we going?" Argentina, Stefano replied. EJ called Nicole and broke the news that he wouldn't be coming, after all. She was disappointed so he promised to make it up to her. EJ's phone cut out before Nicole could tell him that she loves him. Alone at the cabin, Nicole was hit with a severe abdominal pain, then another. "Oh no! The baby!" she cried.
