Monday
Nick snuck up behind Melanie with a birthday cake. She was surprised and scared. Nick apologized. Melanie told Nick she thought the guy who called her earlier was watching her and liked knowing he could scare her. Melanie made a wish and blew out the candles on her cake. She wished she could find out who killed Trent. She was mad at her father, but never wanted him dead. Nick gave Melanie a present: a snow globe of Marseilles. Nick took a call from Max, then reported to Melanie. Max figured out the problem with one of their equations. They could resubmit their fuel proposal, which meant Melanie might see a profit soon. Melanie asked why Nick always talked about what the project could do for her. "I'll do anything for you," said Nick. Melanie opened another gift: a picture frame. Melanie ran and got a photo of her and Trent to put inside. Nick was hoping she'd put their photo in it. Nick went to get a knife to cut the cake, when he flashed back to the cemetery — namely, Melanie and Trent fighting, Trent throwing Melanie to the ground, and Nick emerging and stabbing Trent. Then, he proceeded toward Melanie with the knife.
Bo and Hope discussed Nicole's testimony and her claim there was a man at the cemetery the night Trent was killed. Bo had a feeling Nicole was telling the truth. Soon, Bo got off the phone with DA Jenkins. She wanted to meet with him about the murder case. Bo admitted he was afraid he wasn't going to love his new job as the Commish. Hope thought he'd do a good job and eventually like it. Bo suggested listening to Nicole's testimony again. They both agreed Melanie was still a suspect. Hope thought whoever killed Trent was linked to Nicole or Melanie. She was optimistic she and Bo were closing in on the killer.
Nicole told EJ her theory that Stefano had framed her for murder so he could take her baby. EJ accused Nicole of being paranoid. No one was trying to set her up or take her child away from her. EJ asked Nicole to trust him. He'd get her out of this mess. Nicole couldn't. She noted how weird pregnancy was — and not just physically. For the first time she was thinking about someone other than herself, and she didn't know how to handle it. Nicole sobbed. EJ comforted her. Nicole admitted she wasn't in jail because EJ set her up. It was because she'd lied. Again, EJ said they had to trust each other. Nicole said that couldn't happen, since she had a public record of lying, cheating and murdering. EJ admitted initially thinking Nicole killed Trent, but he'd changed his mind. Finally, they decided to trust each other, as Nicole begged EJ to get her out of jail.
A naked Sami demanded her clothes back from Rafe, while he watched the Bulls/Knicks game. No dice! The duo bickered. Sami threatened to report Rafe. He wasn't fazed. Later, Sami told him he was going to have to let her out eventually. Rafe encouraged her to come out. Sami balked, since she was stark naked. They bickered some more. Sami finally conceded, admitting Rafe had outsmarted her. Rafe still wouldn't return her clothes. Sami started banging the toilet plunger handle on the wall and singing. Rafe turned the volume on the TV up. Sami heard his Bulls had lost and laughed. Rafe didn't seem to care. "Anything you need before I go to bed?" he asked. Sami vowed not to let Rafe get a moment's sleep, but he didn't respond. Sami opened the door to find Rafe fast asleep wearing headphones. Later, a fully clothed Sami searched through her purse. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" asked Rafe.
Tuesday
Rafe found Sami dressed and ready to leave wearing his shirt. He noticed it was tight, put two and two together, and realized she was pregnant. Sami denied it, but eventually came clean, noting she told her dad and he insisted she not tell anyone. Rafe wanted to phone Roman for confirmation. Sami admitted no one in the witness protection program knew the truth. Then, she sobbed about how her baby's father and his family would destroy her child's future. "Who is it? Attila the Hun?" asked Rafe. Sami said Rafe was close — EJ DiMera. Rafe understood Sami's need to keep mum. Still, he had to report the news to his superiors. Sami fretted.
Nicole told EJ having him trust her meant everything. EJ said he just wanted to get Nicole out of jail. Bo and Hope interrupted. Bo said he'd recommended bail for Nicole, but that the charges against her hadn't been dropped. Later, back at the mansion, EJ sensed something was wrong. Nicole swore she was happy to be free and happy that EJ thought she was innocent, but upset he didn't think that earlier. Nicole announced she had to say goodbye. EJ was confused. Nicole whined about how EJ forced himself to have feelings for her, but always went back to wondering how they got involved. Nicole turned to leave, but EJ asked her not to go. He mentioned marriage and how he knew he could give Nicole love. EJ said it might take time, but if they stayed committed to each other and their child, they could have a wonderful life. Nicole still had a concern: Sami! She couldn't be the second woman in his life. EJ promised Nicole wasn't, and they kissed.
Nick, knife in hand, stood behind Melanie and flashed back to killing Trent. Soon, he returned to the present to give Melanie another gift: a birthstone ring. He told Mel to consider it a friendship ring. Nick said he wanted to take care of Melanie. Hope arrived, so Melanie scampered off. Nick asked why Hope couldn't lay off Melanie, now that Nicole had been arrested. Hope didn't think the charges against Nicole would stick. Besides, the case was not closed. Hope deduced that Nick knew something about Trent's murder. Nick lied, claiming he knew nothing. He'd never throw Melanie "under the bus."
Lucas, Philip and Chloe arrived at the hospital. The guys asked Daniel why Kate wanted to see them. Daniel noted it was "a critical time." Philip demanded they stop Kate's chemo. Daniel said if they stopped the treatment, Kate's cancer would come back more aggressively. Chloe went in to see Kate and urged her to fight; she could beat this. Outside, Melanie bumped into Philip, noting he deserved whatever was bothering him. "My mother is dying," said Philip. Melanie wished Kate well and ran off. As Chloe got up to leave, Kate muttered, "Thank you." Philip and Lucas entered Kate's room. Philip went off about how the chemo was making Kate suffer. Kate said she had to continue the treatment and vowed to beat this. Daniel approached Chloe about talking to Kate, realizing she was behind Kate's newfound strength.
Melanie returned as Nick and Hope were finishing their chat. Hope went back to the Salem PD and told Bo something wasn't right. She was sure Nick's involvement with Melanie would lead to disaster. Meanwhile, Melanie asked what Hope wanted. Nick said she was fishing for information. Melanie thought Hope was trying to ruin her in Nick's eyes. Nick said he knew the truth. "How could you know that?" asked Melanie. Nick remembered back to killing Trent, but simply said that he knew Melanie didn't do it in his heart.
Wednesday
Marlena was walking outside when someone reached out and grabbed her. Luckily, it was just John. He said he'd gotten the final divorce papers. "It's not what I want... It's just what has to be," noted Marlena, asking how John was. Any more episodes? Had he seen a doctor? John said doctors couldn't help him. Marlena noted he said the same thing to her 20 years ago and urged John to let her help him. John swore he was fine — then promptly collapsed. When he came to, Marlena asked what he was thinking about before he collapsed. He couldn't remember. John insisted on walking Marlena home. Soon, Marlena was spilling the news Sami was in the witness protection program and admitting how worried she was about her daughter. John said he had an idea.
Stephanie walked into the pub and returned Max's shirt. He didn't want it. They discussed their breakup. Max hoped they could remain friends. So did Steph. Meanwhile, Chelsea met Philip and asked about Kate. Philip said no one could be with Kate right now. She was weak and having a bad reaction to chemo. Still, Chelsea wanted to see her. She needed Kate in her life. Philip assured Chelsea that Kate wasn't giving up. Chelsea left and Steph arrived. Steph asked Philip if she could buy him a drink and asked how stupid she'd acted the other night. Steph mentioned starting to look for a job in the morning. Philip reminded her of his job offer at Titan. Steph accepted it. Across town, Chelsea arrived at the pub and sobbed. Max comforted her. Chelsea asked about Max and Steph. Max said there was no him and Steph. Chelsea told Max how jealous she used to be of them. Max noted he and Chelsea had had some good times.
Nicole looked forward to a quiet night at home. EJ suggested they go on their first date, so they could get to know each other. Nicole didn't think getting to know her better was a good idea. EJ suggested a non-date with impersonal conversation. Nicole felt the baby kick. EJ put his hand on her stomach, but didn't feel anything. They discussed whether their baby was a girl or a boy. Nicole didn't care. She just wanted him or her to be loved and have the childhood she never had. EJ went on about how excited he was about their future. He got a business call and their moment of bliss was temporarily interrupted. When he returned, Nicole was falling asleep. EJ offered to take her upstairs and tuck her in, but Nicole wanted to stay put there.
Sami grabbed the phone from Rafe, who was about to report her pregnancy, and begged him to make sure neither EJ nor her family found out about it. Sami winced. Rafe hung up the phone and started to call for help, but she persuaded him not to. The baby just kicked. Rafe wondered if Sami was lying. Sami had him feel her stomach. Rafe said pregnant women and babies weren't his thing. "That's pretty obvious," retorted Sami, noting how Rafe freaked upon learning she was with child and wanted to call for backup. Rafe was just protecting the kid. Sami noted that was the most important thing to her, too. Why else would she be there with someone like Rafe? Sami admitted she'd rather be on death row again than be separated from her kids. Rafe was taken aback by that revelation and asked Sami what her plan was. EJ would find out she was pregnant eventually. Rafe picked up the phone again. Sami grabbed it. She didn't know what was worse: having a hit man after her or the idea of another one of her children being raised as a DiMera. She told Rafe her future was in his hands. She begged him not to make that call and to protect her from the DiMeras. Rafe said he'd sleep on it. Sami said thanks and headed off to bed. Alone, Rafe picked up the phone.
Thursday
Lexie and Theo were in the park when Theo threw a fit. Lexie couldn't get him to stop. Chelsea happened by and Theo ran to her. Chelsea started singing, and Theo calmed down. Lexie thanked Chelsea, then approached Theo, who tossed another fit. Chelsea got Theo to stop. Lexie wondered why Theo wouldn't respond to her. "I'm not his mom," said Chelsea, noting autistic kids acted out more around their parents. Chelsea offered to take Theo to the playground. Lexie agreed and left the duo alone.
Maggie returned home and was surprised to find Melanie there. She told Nick it was a problem. Nick said Melanie had nowhere else to go. Maggie was worried, knowing the brat was followed by trouble. Melanie appeared and thanked Maggie for letting her stay there, promising she wouldn't be trouble. Nick went off to phone the hospital for more pills. Meanwhile, Melanie assured Maggie she and Nick were just friends. Maggie mentioned the ring Nick gave her. Melanie said it was a friendship ring. Maggie noted Nick's big heart. “Sometimes that's to his detriment,” she said, mentioning how he'd been burned by Willow, who died. Melanie promised not to hurt Nick. Maggie warned her not to.
John arrived at Marlena's, noting he found a PI to track down the mayor's killer/Sami's shooter. There was a knock on the door. Marlena opened it to find Brady. Marlena told John his son was home. Brady was thrilled to see his dad. John was cold. Marlena discussed Brady's rehab with him. John left. Marlena apologized for John. She told Brady about John's episodes and how he wouldn't accept any treatment. That's why Marlena divorced him, though she'd never give up on him. Brady offered to help. John returned, noting his contact was on the case. Marlena suggested John and Brady spend time together. John said he was busy and left. Brady realized he was a stranger to his dad. Marlena assured him John would come around.
Max showed up at the hospital to see Kayla. He mentioned his breakup with Stephanie and apologized for the way he'd been treating the family since he started looking for Melanie. Nick met with Dr. Whittaker and asked for a prescription refill. The doctor agreed to give him half. Later, Max found Melanie in the park and revealed Nick told him he loved her. Max noticed the ring Melanie was wearing. She said it was a friendship ring from Nick. Max wanted Melanie to return it. He asked Melanie if she was in love with Nick. Silence. Max warned Melanie not to hurt Nick, who soon returned home. Maggie informed him she'd put Melanie on notice not to hurt him. Later, Maggie saw Nick's pill bottle and freaked. Was Nick on pills when he was arrested for drunk driving? Nick went off on Maggie. "You've never spoken to me that way before,” retorted Maggie. Nick apologized. He was in a lot of pain. Maggie asked Nick to take care of himself and left. Alone, Nick muttered about taking a trip with Melanie. Melanie walked in and Nick suggested going to Green Mountain Lodge. Melanie put the kibosh on it, and Nick left. Maggie phoned and asked Melanie to have Nick call her ASAP. Melanie looked for paper to leave Nick a note and found the exact paper her threatening note was written on. "Nick!" she gasped.
Lexie arrived at the pub and found Kayla with Joe. They discussed Theo's meltdown. Lexie said Chelsea saved the day and called herself a bad mother. Kayla insisted that wasn't true and told Lexie that Theo was lucky to have her and Abe as parents. Meanwhile, Chelsea and Theo ran into Max. Max revealed he had another run in with Melanie and that she was still staying with Nick. Chelsea believed Melanie would break Nick's heart — even more than she did.
Friday
Sami woke up and thanked Rafe for not calling his boss about her pregnancy. Rafe didn't respond. Sami jumped to conclusions and assumed the worse. Rafe said he did call, but only to confirm Sami was telling the truth. Sami freaked. Rafe made matters worse by revealing Nicole was out on bail and living at the DiMera mansion. Sami panicked and tried to call Marlena. Rafe grabbed the phone, noting Nicole was no longer the number one suspect. Sami said the cops could be wrong and her son could be living with a murderer. Sami went on about EJ being handsome and able to have any woman he wanted, but he was seduced by that slut Nicole. Rafe called Sami on still being in love with EJ.
Brady surprised Chloe at the pub, noting he'd been clean for a year. He wanted to discuss their marriage. Chloe admitted already figuring it out — she was too focused on her career and self-absorbed, and he got into drugs. Brady still felt guilty and wanted to apologize for how he'd treated her. Chloe blamed herself for watching Brady self-destruct. Brady assured her that wasn't her fault, it was his — and in the process he lost the person he loved most. The couple forgave each other and hugged. They discussed Sami being in the witness protection program, Chloe and Lucas' relationship, and Brady's encounter with John. Chloe explained how Nicole and John were now pals and so were she and Nicole.
EJ accompanied Nicole to her prenatal checkup. Daniel asked Nicole some questions and examined her. Soon, Daniel pronounced all was well with and her baby. Her next appointment would be for an ultrasound. They'd have to decide if they wanted to know their little one's sex. When EJ left to take a phone call, Nicole asked Daniel about sex during her pregnancy. Daniel explained it was fine. Later, EJ asked Daniel the same question. Nicole and EJ returned home ready for — surprise, sex! Nicole told EJ she'd meet him upstairs. Before she could join him, however, Brady showed up at the door. Meanwhile, Chloe went to the hospital to inquire about Kate. Daniel thanked Chloe for inspiring his patient to get well.
Melanie compared Maggie's notepaper to the threatening note she'd received as Nick walked in. Nick sensed something was wrong. "It was you, wasn't it?" asked Melanie. Nick said he had reasons for writing the notes. Melanie knew he was in love with her and asked if Nick was trying to scare her into loving him. Nick insisted he was trying to protect Melanie. He was at the cemetery: Melanie killed Trent. Melanie refused to believe it. Nick said he was worried about her, so he went to the cemetery and saw her stab Trent. "I murdered my father," cried Melanie. Nick said Mel couldn't go to the cops. They wouldn't believe it was self-defense. Nick suggested they split Salem before Bo and Hope closed in on Melanie as the prime suspect. He'd protect her. Melanie wasn't sure. Nick urged her to trust him. Melanie agreed to leave town.
Bo and Hope discussed "the tall man" Nicole mentioned seeing at the cemetery the night of Trent's murder. Hope made a call and learned there was a caretaker on duty that night, unofficially: Ray Jackson. Apparently, the guy had a side job stealing and selling headstones. Bo put out an APB on him. Bo and Hope arrived at the Cheatin' Heart, found Ray, and asked to talk to him about the night of the murder. This time they wanted the truth. Bo told Ray they know about his side business and wondered if he saw anyone at the cemetery. Ray said he did. Bo and Hope showed him some pictures, and Ray pointed out Melanie and Nick.
