DAYS Week of May 5, 2008

Monday

Shortly after Roman, John and Marlena gathered for EJ's immigration hearing, Nicole shimmied in, much to Sami's dismay. Nic explained that she'd volunteered to testify. John went in to meet with Mr. Burke, the immigration officer, and promised EJ, "I have your back." Sami wasn't so sure and Nicole went out of her way to taunt her nemesis. In the hearing room, John claimed that EJ and Sami have a real marriage. Next up, it was Nicole's turn. A short time later, Sami stared in disbelief when Mr. Burke walked a giggling and flirtatious Nicole to the door and kissed her hand. Nicole implied that EJ will be deported and Sami lunged at her, but her family broke up the fight. The immigration officer called in Sami, and granted EJ's request that they testify together.

At the Brady Pub, Philip offered Max a way to make some extra dough: help him keep an eye on John Black. Max refused to spy on John or help bring down Morgan's father. Morgan walked in, giving Kiriakis a dirty look. After asking if there's nothing he won't do, she challenged him to a game of darts. Max smirked as he handed her the darts. When Philip's back was turned, she threw a dart at him and stormed out. Philip followed Morgan outside and called her a drama queen.

Kate welcomed home a glum Chelsea, who admitted that she was hurt when Daniel removed himself from her case. Kate assured her granddaughter that she hadn't done anything to offend the doc. Kate observed that Chelsea wants to be more than just friends with Daniel. There was a knock at the door, it was Nick — or as Kate pointedly mentioned: "Your boyfriend." Nick couldn't wait until Chelsea was well enough for a romantic outing. In the meantime, he suggested that they relax in Bo and Hope's hammock, but Chelsea didn't feel like hanging out, it was obvious that Nick's feelings were hurt, but he kissed her good-bye and left.... At University, Dr. McDreamy bid farewell to Lexie, who asked if he was leaving because of Chelsea. He maintained that he just wants to go, "catch a wave." The conversation was interrupted by a cell phone call from Chelsea, who hung up as soon as Dr. Jonas answered.... Stephanie dropped in on Chelsea and noted her cool attitude toward Nick. She asked if Chelsea was thinking of breaking up with Nick, which Chelsea weakly denied. Talk turned to Stephanie and Max, Steph confirmed that they did the deed, then brought the conversation around to Daniel, going on about how hunky he is. She predicted that Chelsea will go after him. Chelsea admitted that she's in love with Daniel.

In Ava's hospital room, Steve and Kayla glowered at Martino as the pitiful patient looked about helplessly. Kayla demanded to know why Martino put his daughter's care in the hands of a physician who prescribed the meds that made Ava lose her mind. Vitali pleaded ignorance, but a sobbing Ava doubted her father. Martino said he blamed Steve. Kayla ordered Martino to leave. He vowed that Ava would come home, despite the fact that she's under arrest. In the corridor, he made a cryptic call, ordering someone to, "just get it done." Steve glared at him. A while later, Lexie visited Ava and reported that she's doing better.

Kate arrived at the pub to meet Martino and they shared a big hug. They talked about old times. He invited her to a no-strings dinner later. Katie got misty-eyed, confessing that she stumbled upon a murder scene. Vita said that "that kind of stuff" upsets him an she recalled how "squeamish" he is. After paying for his glass of wine, Martino chivalrously walked his old friend to her car.

After Stephanie left Chelsea, there was another knock at the Brady's door. Chelsea was surprised to see Daniel, who announced that he was there for one last housecall..... At the Pub, Max found Nick's notebook with beer spilled on the grant papers. Max looked at the notes and attempted to fix them, which amazed Kayla and Stephanie.

Sami and EJ told Mr. Burke about how they met, insisted that the family feud was over and proclaimed their love for each other. EJ begged the officer to let him have a life with his family in America. Burke said he'd review the case and left. Nicole told Sami that she'd tried to help them, but that Sami made things worse by attacking her. "What if she's right?" cried Sami.... After saying good-bye, Daniel walked out of the Brady House, then rushed back to plant a passionate kiss on Chelsea, who looked thrilled.

Tuesday

At the DiMera mansion, Sami (wearing her glasses, pajamas and fuzzy slippers) and John (tossing back glasses of scotch) both found themselves unable to sleep and had a long talk. She filled him in on his past, saying that he used to be a little "righteous," which she found annoying. John didn't want to talk about the old him. She spotted the disk found in Stefano's safe and asked if he'd watched it. John said he suspected the disk might contain info he doesn't want to know about, adding that he seems to recall seeing it in the lab when Stefano experimented on him. He did, however, have a change of heart about hearing about the old John Black and asked Sami for highlights. Flashbacks ensued. Marlena telling John that she loves him, Sami catching them make love in the conference room the night of the Titan Party, Sami screaming at her mom over hurting Roman. Back in the present, Sami accused John of destroying her life way back when. He noted that Roman forgave him, but that Sami has a chip on her shoulder. Sami countered that she had forgiven John, then she stunned him with the news that he once had a fling with her Aunt Hope in Hawaii and there was a flashback to the submarine hook-up. John looked stricken as he recalled the sub sex. She explained that Hope thought she was someone else at the time. "Princess Gina," said John. Then he asked her to tell him more about when everyone thought he was Roman. Cue the flashback to Marlena touching a shirtless John's Phoenix tattoo. Sami urged John to view the disk, so he popped it into the computer. The screen filled with static and John mused that the disk must be encrypted. Sami suggested that they have the ISA check it out. John didn't feel like dealing with it right then, he asked her for more details on his past. Sami told him about how Victor Kiriakis brought him back to Salem and recounted John's escape and how he got the name John Black. John fumed about getting used by Stefano repeatedly and being manipulated by Victor. "My days of being a victim are over," he declared. Sami then had a confession: She told of how she tampered with Belle's paternity results, making it appear that Roman and not John was the father, and kidnapping her baby sister. She was surprised that John wasn't angry, but he responded that he has no connection to Belle, so it doesn't bother him. Sami begged John not to tell Marlena that she's been blabbing. Sami ended up getting annoyed with John for having such a flippant attitude and sympathizing with his daughter's kidnapper. "I was starting to like you," she sighed. When Sami asked if John loves Marlena, he clammed up and suddenly had to go to bed. "Guess I struck a nerve," she commented.

EJ met Nicole at the docks and handed her an envelope of cash in exchange for testifying favorably at his immigration hearing. Nicole purred that if he wasn't married to Sami, she would go after him. EJ emphasized that he loves his wife, then warned Nic to keep her mouth shut about their under-the-table deal because Sami needs to see him as upstanding "You really intend to make her love you?" marveled Nicole. Nicole said that EJ's dark and shady side was getting her all "tingly." EJ politely said that he's tempted, but he's married and so is she. Then he not-so-politely remarked that when he first met Nicole he knew that he could use her for his own purposes. Nicole did not think too much of that. He pointed out that her sarcastic, bad-girl routine is a bit of an act. She said it was a coping technique, noting that all the men she loved hurt her. She shared her plan for getting even with Victor: She's going to take his "hot-as-hell son, Philip."

Wednesday

Martino and Kate met at the Brady Pub. Daniel walked in and was ushered over to their table by Martino's goon, Eddie. Daniel brushed off Martino's offer for a bite to eat, and demanded to know why the stranger made him miss his flight (He thought he'd been paged by another doctor). Vitali asked the doc to check on his daughter's case. "I'm sorry, who did you say you were?" asked Daniel. Kate explained that she suggested Martino consult Daniel. The doctor asked if the mobster was going to, make him an offer, "he can't refuse." Marty remarked that Dr. Jonas has seen too many movies. He persuaded Daniel to have a seat, and Martino explained that Ava was prescribed medicine that made her crazy. Martino mused that the psychiatrist he'd employed betrayed him because he's so well-paid and has, "the ethics of a sewer rat." ... Daniel refused to help and started to leave, Kate ran after him.... At a nearby table, Stephanie was stunned by Max's claim that he fixed Nick's grant proposal. He not-too-convincingly contended that he only copied the work and didn't actually understand it. Yet, Max wanted to send the papers straight to the administration, insisting that Steph not tell Nick. Guess who walked in right then? They covered and hid the papers from Nick. Stephanie left with them, ready to be mailed to the university. Nick, meanwhile, asked Max if he'd seen his grant project. Stephanie returned and also plead ignorance about the proposal's whereabouts. Nick left, glum that he'd have to start over.... Outside the pub, Kate accused Daniel of wanting to beat it out of Salem because of his feelings for Chelsea. He started up with the excuse that he just wants to "catch a wave" again. Uh-huh.
Abe joined Lexie at University Hospital, where they discussed marital counseling. He didn't seem as enthused about it as Dr. Carver. Roman walked up and Lexie reported that Ava is fit to be released from the hospital. Roman went to take the patient to jail.

At the Brady house, Bo brought breakfast to a stir-crazy Chelsea, who was anxious to get out of the house. Brady argued that she needs to recuperate from the surgery. Chelsea observed that her father was all dressed up for work and also needs to stay home and rest from his operation. Morgan showed up with coffee and scones for her sorority sister. Bo used the chance to rush out of the house. Chelsea confided that she thinks Bo feels bad about her infertility. Chelsea admitted that she's not sure she wants to have kids, but is still upset on how this will affect whatever man she settles down with (which may not be Nick). Morgan pointed out that adoption and surrogacy are options. She advised Chelsea not to put the cart before the horse. There was a knock on the door, Nick walked in and Morgan left. Chelsea told Nick she is feeling better. "Glad to hear it," said Dr. McHunk, who was standing in the open door. Chelsea smiled coyly. Nick wanted to know why Daniel was there. Chelsea piped up about how the hospital called her about a "last checkup." Nick, not really buying it, left. Chelsea asked why
Daniel was really there. He admitted that he has feelings for her, but it has to stop, "because you are my patient." Arguing about how they can't do this came to a halt when she planted a kiss on him.

Roman and Abe went to the station and discussed how Vitali's lawyer is trying to get Ava off the hook. Bo showed up and was pleased to see Ava being booked. He taunted her about how hard her life will be in prison and blasted her for killing Grandpa Shawn and nearly killing Hope. "You're gonna pay for what you did to my family, bitch!" he spit. "I'm sorry. And you're right. I deserve to be punished for what I did," said a meek Ava. Roman confirmed to Bo that Ava was drugged. Bo decided to go speak to Martino. An officer came in and noted that Ava's psychologist had been found dead. Bo took off to see Martino. Roman started to go after him, but Abe said to let Bo go, so as to put Vitali on notice. Ava told Roman and Abe that she doesn't want bail. Abe informed her that her psychiatrist was murdered and noticed that Ava didn't seem surprised. "Daddy doesn't like loose ends," she said. Abe had more news, Ava's free — she made bail. She didn't want to accept, but Abe said she has no choice.

Back at the pub, Martino again invited Kay to dinner and made it clear that they had a horizontal past. Kate didn't want to revisit it, saying that these days she likes to get to know a man before she's intimate with him.... Nick returned, interrupting sweet talk between Max and Stephanie. Nick vented his suspicions about Dr. Jonas. Max warned his friend to keep an eye on his rival.... Bo stormed in, demanding to talk to Martino. Vitali's goons, reached into their jackets. "Don't force me to review their gun permits," warned Bo. Martino dismissed his goons and Kate (who got the evil eye from Bo) left. "So what do you want to talk about?" asked Martino. Bo responded with his fists.

Thursday

At the Brady house, Daniel pulled away from his steamy kiss with Chelsea, insisting that he can't do it, he can't hurt her. Chelsea got tired of this flip-flopping and lost her patience, but before you know it, more kissing and breathy whispers about how beautiful she is ensued. Then Dr. Jonas went back to saying how this can't happen because she's too young etc. "Are you married?" asked Chelsea. He answered that he's a gypsy and flies solo. Seeing that he's struggling with some big secret, Chelsea told Daniel about how it was her fault that Hope and Bo lost their little boy Zack. He confessed that he already knew that because of hospital gossip. He went back to saying how she deserves better than him and he can only stay in Salem if he'll give up on them. A vexed Chelsea told him to just go.

EJ crept about the DiMera mansion and Sami blasted him for staying out all night, saying that she knew he'd been with Nicole. Sami could smell Nic's perfume (and did not care for the fragrance). Her jealousy prompted a triumphant smirk. He offered to take his wife shopping, but Sami said that if he has money, they should use it to get out of the mansion, which she deemed a house of horrors. Sami recounted her late-night talk with John, saying they bonded in an "incredibly dysfunctional way," and now she feels guilty for some of the things she said to him. In the living room, a modest Marlena wasn't so hot on the ginormous painting of her that John had hung. He suggested she consider it a monument to their past. When Marlena asked what he knows about their history, he clammed up, but Sami entered and admitted that she told John everything. Marlena hoped that Sami recounted what a great guy John was, but he countered that he'd found out he could be quite the jerk — and Doc wasn't always a saint either. Sami squirmed. It got worse when he mentioned that he and Doc had hooked up on a conference room table, which horrified Marlena and shocked the heck out of EJ. Marlena had just changed the subject to her son-in-law's immigration hearing when the fax rang and Nicole pranced in. Sami snatched the fax and wouldn't show it to EJ until he answered a question: Is he having sex with Nicole? Nic taunted Sami, of course and EJ told her to knock it off. EJ grabbed the fax and read the good news, he can say in the country. Nic finally left. EJ gloated about how jealous his wife is. She sputtered that she can get that annulment now, but he told her not to kill the buzz. Marlena suggested that they have a drink. When John wanted to hit the bottle, she hastily added that she meant lemonade. Afterward, John sipped bubbly, smoked a cigar and noted about how hot he and Marlena must have been and asked, "Where's that conference table when you need one?" Talk turned to the disk they found in Stefano's safe and John was dismayed to see that it was missing.

After Bo knocked out Martino at the Brady Pub, the bloodied mobster cracked that Bo didn't seem to be very happy with him. Bo fumed, "If it wasn't for you, my pop would still be alive. Son of a bitch!" Ava arrived in time to see Bo slap on the cuffs. Roman and Abe walked in and told Bo to take it easy, since there are no charges. Ava spoke up, saying her dad should have never let her go free and asking if he paid the shrink to give her those dangerous drugs, which made her crazy. Bo walked up to Vitali and said, "Even if I have to take off my badge, you're going to pay for what you did." Kate didn't buy Martino's concerned father act and put the kibosh on having anything more to do with him. Back at the police station, Ava dropped in on Bo, Roman and Abe and asked them to help her find the truth about whether her dad is responsible for all the bad things that happened to her. Roman and Abe returned to Bo's house to talk strategy.... At the station, Ava asked Abe to make sure Bo watches his back since her dad tends to bump off his foes. Sure enough, Martino was making plans to take down Steve and then "whack that son of a bitch cop that clocked me."

After parting with Daniel, Chelsea headed to the Brady Pub, where she asked to speak to Nick privately. Stephanie whispered to Max that Nick might need a friend to lean on. She also feared Chelsea will end up getting hurt, too. Over at their table, Chelsea cried as she broke up with Nick. He kept his cool and took it like a man.

Friday

In the DiMera mansion living room, Marlena, John and Sami were wondering what happened to the missing disk, when Rolf walked in looking all shady. Marlena accused Rolf of taking it, but John sent his manservant to fetch him a snack and told Doc and Sami that anyone could have taken to the disk, even one of them. Sami got ready to go out. Marlena wanted to join her, but Sami urged her mom not to hide from John. Marlena denied that she was doing that, then immediately admitted that maybe she was. Later on, Rolf offered to let John search his room, but Black said that he knows Rolf didn't swipe the disk. He then made a call, telling Marlena he was about to "raise a little hell." John growled into the phone that he wants a new security system installed that very day. He told the person he was talking to that he didn't care if the man's son had a birthday party. Marlena pointed out that he was being a little harsh. John got even more cranky when Marlena referred to him as "Stefano's project." Afterward, John told Rolf that he knows he wasn't the culprit because Rolf would have been careful to replace the disk with a dummy, so as not to make it obvious it was missing.

Lexie strode into the health club where she spotted muscular, sweaty Daniel working out. She once again asked if he's leaving town because of Chelsea and he once again wouldn't say anything concrete, then noted he can't get involved with a patient again.

At the pub, Chelsea ran into Victor who invited her to move back into the mansion. Nicole stomped up and started yelling at Victor, calling him a monster. She recounted how Pookie was apparently poisoned. Victor was not at all sympathetic to the dog's plight. After Nic huffed off, Chelsea asked Victor for information on Daniel, but Kiriakis was tightlipped. Outside, Nicole ran into EJ and cried to him about how Victor poisoned her dog, who is now in intensive care. She offered to show pictures and pulled out a pink album filled with photos of her pup. EJ was very sweet and comforting with the grieving "mother." She broke down in tears and he took her into his arms. Of course that's when Sami walked up. She demanded to know if EJ is always this cozy with clients. He explained that Nicole's dog is ill, but Sami made cracks about how Nicole can just replace the pooch with a hamster. EJ scolded his wife for being insensitive. Leveling a dirty look at Nicole, Sami pulled her husband into a looooong kiss.

Back inside the pub, Victor noted that his granddaughter is awfully curious about Dr. Jonas. She admitted that she may be falling in love. Meanwhile, at the health club, Lexie pressed Daniel to talk about the patient he was once involved with. He revealed that she wasn't just a patient — she was his wife. He recalled the Tuesday in Miami when he spotted this gorgeous woman in a white dress and 49ers baseball cap. "Being from Northern California, I was immediately intrigued," he remembered. As Victor was telling Chelsea about how Daniel's last patient had cancer, the doc continued telling his sad story to Lexie. Vic recounted how Daniel announced that he was going to marry the patient right there in the hospital. "That night she took a turn for the worse," he said. Daniel told Lexie about taking his bride to, "the one place she would smile, the beach." Victor picked up, "Rebecca died that night." Daniel lamented that, "I lost my objectivity, she lost her life." "It was heartbreaking," finished Victor.

Bo, Roman and Abe were discussing Vitali when Hope volunteered to take the case. Roman and and Abe heartily agreed, Bo was vexed, asking why they wouldn't let him work on the case, but it was okay for his wife. Hope pointed out that at work she's "Detective Brady." Abe added that Bo compromised the department by attacking Vitali at the pub. He said that Bo can help out — from the sidelines. Bo scowled, Hope gave him a playful smirk. She wanted to start sleuthing right away, but Roman and Abe insisted it wait, sending the lovebirds home for some private time. The giggly Bradys rushed home for some smoochies.

Right after a towel-clad Daniel went to the steam room, Chelsea showed up at the health club.
