Nicole arrived home and found EJ and Taylor together. "So, what's new with the two of you?" Nicole asked. EJ said that he needed to speak to Nicole alone. Nicole demanded that Taylor stay. Nicole pretended that EJ wanted to discuss where Taylor should live, now that Fay was dead. "I know how you two hate each other," Nicole commented. "Stop being nice to me," Taylor protested, "because I don't deserve it!" EJ wanted to reveal the truth to Nicole, but her ringing cell phone interrupted their conversation. Nicole saw that it was from the lab technician. She lied and claimed that Chloe needed her because she was distraught about her divorce. After Nicole left, EJ remarked to Taylor that Nicole was hiding something. Taylor thought they should delay telling Nicole the truth. EJ responded that there would never be a good time. At the pier, Nicole met with the lab technician and received confirmation that the prisoner in the DiMera basement was Rafe. Taylor ran into Nicole and could see that something was troubling her. Nicole hinted that she was about to tell Taylor something shocking about EJ.
Rafe 2 lied to Sami that he was leaving Salem to get his head on straight and be the man he used to be. Sami was hopeful that they could work out their problems. When Sami stepped out for a moment, Rafe 2 phoned Dario and asked him to come over. Sami returned and headed off to do laundry. Dario arrived and Rafe 2 kept him outside in the hallway and deliberately talked about his indiscretion with Alicia. Rafe 2 asked Dario to keep it secret between them, fully aware that Sami could overhear their conversation just inside the door. After Dario left, Sami confronted Rafe about sleeping with another woman.
Stefano visited the asylum to get confirmation of Rafe's death. Stefano agreed that survival would be nearly impossible but decided to keep a patrol searching. "I want to make sure that bastard is dead!" Stefano insisted. He also fired the orderly and guard before returning to EJ. Stefano wanted EJ to put his divorce plans on hold until they could get Rafe 2 out of town. However, EJ refused.
Rafe staggered through the woods, determined to find a hiding place. He realized that he dropped his key and went back to retrieve it. But before Rafe could continue his escape, he collapsed; unaware that someone had found him.
At the Java Cafe, Will and Gabi studied for finals with T and Kinsey. When Abigail and Chad crossed paths, the teens could sense the chill between them. Abigail admitted to Chad that she worried Stefano would hurt him, but Chad assured her that wouldn't happen. T encouraged Will to take advantage of the loft being empty and take Gabi back there for a "private study" session. Will pitched the idea to Gabi and she was up for it. When Will and Gabi arrived at the loft they learned Sami and "Rafe" were back. They were both privately relieved that they didn't take their romance to the next level.

Sami and Rafe 2 have a huge confrontation after he confessed that he slept with another woman. Sami commented that she was destroyed when she saw her mom cheating on her dad with John. When Sami insulted Rafe 2's prowess he demanded that she take it back. Sami claimed that she was faking it every time they made love after he got back from the hospital. In response, Rafe 2 hurled insults at Sami. When Rafe 2 called her a bitch, Sami reached out to slap him, but Rafe 2 pushed her onto the couch. Sami ordered Rafe 2 out of her life. Rafe 2 was thrilled to leave and began packing. Stefano phoned Rafe 2 and ordered, "Finish the job and get out of Salem." Rafe 2 smiled and boasted, "No problem. The lovers are finished." At the Brady Pub, Sami told Caroline that her marriage to Rafe was over. Caroline consoled Sami. She added, "Rafe Hernandez is an idiot!"
The real Rafe awakened in a convent, feverish and disoriented. A young nun named Sister Rose tended to him and promised that he was safe. Rafe held the key to the safe house and looked around the room. The religious symbols on the wall triggered something and Rafe realized that the room reminded him of someplace important.
EJ insisted to Stefano that he was asking Nicole for a divorce, despite his father's misgivings. Meanwhile, Taylor chased after Nicole and demanded an explanation for her behavior. Nicole warned Taylor that EJ was a horrible person and she had doubts about her love for him. Nicole added that EJ couldn't be trusted. Taylor returned to the DiMera mansion and told EJ that he was right; Nicole would be better off without him. Nicole went to the Brady Pub for a drink and was thrilled to see that Sydney was back in Salem. Nicole realized that she couldn't give up Sydney. When she arrived at the DiMera mansion, EJ spoke with Nicole alone and said they should get a divorce.
Melanie and Brady went to the Cheatin’ Heart for drinks. Melanie said she hoped that it didn’t bother him to see her with Brady. Dario was defensive and claimed he didn’t care. Melanie excused herself to use the restroom. While she was gone, Brady and Dario reached a truce. Later, Dario got under Melanie’s skin and pretended to wish her a good time with Brady. After they left, he Dario found Melanie's sweater and fantasized about kissing her. At the pier, Melanie thanked Brady for his concern and said she felt safe with him.

EJ dropped the bombshell on Nicole that he wanted a divorce. Nicole pretended to be shocked and was careful not to reveal that she was aware of his feelings for Taylor. Nicole insisted that she didn't want a divorce, but EJ said that there was nothing she could do to change his mind. Nicole asked about Sydney and EJ promised that she would have full visitation rights. Nicole noted that she also loved Johnny and EJ assured that she could continue to see him. EJ's calm demeanor chilled Nicole. "You fooled me into thinking that you actually gave a damn about me," Nicole voiced. "You only care about yourself!" Outraged by EJ's cruel rejection, Nicole slapped him. Taylor overheard their argument and promptly scooted out of the DiMera mansion. Nicole asked EJ if he was cheating on her with another woman. When Nicole slyly asked if it was Sami, EJ laughed. Nicole handed EJ the DNA results that proved he was holding Rafe prisoner in the DiMera basement. EJ handed the results back to Nicole and said she didn't have proof of any wrongdoing. "Maybe not," Nicole acknowledged, "but we both know that you did something horrible to Rafe that turned him into a freak that no one recognizes. I wonder what Sami will do when I tell her?" Rafe realized that Nicole didn't know about the imposter.
Meanwhile, Taylor visited Lexie at the hospital and announced that Nicole was asking EJ for a divorce. "EJ and Nicole have always been toxic for each other," Lexie observed. She added that Taylor seemed better suited for EJ and encouraged her to go for it.
Taylor returned to the DiMera mansion, where Nicole and EJ were still engaged in their tense confrontation. Nicole saw Taylor and invited her to join them. "What's going on?" Taylor asked. Nicole said that she and EJ had an announcement to make.
Rafe 2 was about to leave Salem when he realized that he misplaced the ATM card the DiMeras gave him that had his new identity, Javier. Rafe ransacked the loft, but couldn't find the card. Later, he informed Stefano of the lost card and asked for money. Stefano said he'd get Rafe 2 a replacement card and gave him supplemental funds. Rafe 2 was about to leave Salem when he realized that Sami must have accidentally taken the ATM card. He freaked out, concerned that it could be traced back to him or the DiMeras.
Sami talked to Caroline about "Rafe's" abusive treatment. "My Rafe would never have cheated on me," Sami asserted. "I know that my Rafe is gone, for good." Sami encouraged Sami to get closure on her relationship and learn to be okay being without a man. At the pier, Sami looked at her key to the safe house and considered her options.
Rafe's fever broke. He told Sister Rose everything he remembered about himself, which wasn't much. He saw a medal from the Convent of the Holy Cross and was hit by the realization that he had been there.
Abe and Lexie watched as Stefano shared a happy reunion with Theo.

Rafe 2 was desperate to find Sami, who had his ATM card. After questioning Caroline, Rafe 2 realized that Sami was headed to the safe house, but he had no idea where to find it. Meanwhile, the real Rafe slowly remembered bits and pieces of his past and insisted to Sister Rose that he knew where to find the answers to his identity.
Chloe stood outside Maggie's door and overheard Victor discussing her. "Having Chloe in this house is a train wreck waiting to happen. Get her out of here," Victor urged. "No way in Hell," Maggie responded. "Chloe can stay here as long as she likes." Victor noted that he wanted their relationship to get back on track, but added it couldn't happen with Chloe around. Maggie remained steadfast in her loyalty toward Chloe. Victor's harsh words troubled Chloe, but it was clear that she felt visibly troubled about coming between Maggie and Victor. Maggie showed Victor the door and broke down crying.
Jennifer enlisted Abigail's help as she prepared for her first date with Daniel. Abigail calmed Jennifer's nervousness about her big evening and loaned her a pair of earrings. At the pier, Chloe overheard Jennifer and Abigail discuss Jennifer's date with Daniel. Chloe whined that she still loved Daniel. Jennifer responded that if Chloe's feelings for Daniel were genuine, she would let him move on. Meanwhile, Melanie wished Daniel good luck as he nervously prepared a fancy meal for Jennifer. She arrived with a bottle of red wine. Jennifer was impressed by Daniel's meal, until her throat closed up and she started gasping for air. Chloe went to the Cheatin' Heart, where a charming guy named Quinn offered to buy her a drink.
Katie informed Stefano that she saw her doctor and was officially two years cancer free. She turned the subject to Chad and suggested that Stefano was neglecting his son. Chad picked up his last paycheck from Adrienne and discussed his new job at his dad's company. Adrienne advised Chad to be wary of his new family. Later, Kate had a private chat with Chad and promised that Stefano would be a loyal father. "Stefano will never let you down, I promise you that," Kate shared. Stefano overheard the tail end of their conversation and agreed that his wife was right. Stefano added that Chad was very important to him and apologized for his apparent neglect.
Dario visited Melanie at the hospital and returned the sweater she left at the Cheatin' Heart. Melanie invited Dario join her for coffee at the Java Cafe and he accepted.

Sami arrived at the safe house and poignantly recalled her relationship with Rafe. Meanwhile, Sister Rose agreed to take the real Rafe to the Covent of the Holy Cross. He met with Sister Barbara and was disappointed when she didn't know him. He asked if the key meant anything. She pointed him to the living quarters across the street. At the Brady Pub, Rafe 2 grilled Will and Gabi about the location of the safe house. Rafe 2 insisted that he wanted to make things right with Sami and save their marriage. Though Will was put off by Rafe 2's intensity, he offered to call Roman and get the address. While Will was on the phone, Gabi questioned what was going on with Rafe. The imposter threatened, "Stay the hell out of my business!" Gabi was truly frightened by his anger. Will only managed to get the address for the convent. Rafe 2 left and Gabi confided to Will, "I hate him! I never want to see him again." Later, Rafe 2 tracked down the address and was thrown when Sister Barbara expressed surprise that “he” had returned so soon. Meanwhile, the real Rafe was walking down the corridor of the safe house when he heard a woman crying. He used his safe key to open the door and came face-to-face with Sami!
Nicole took twisted pleasure in announcing to Taylor that she and EJ were leaving for a sexy honeymoon. Taylor was clearly shocked and EJ was unable to explain that Nicole was blackmailing him. Taylor rushed to her room. Despite EJ's attempts to try and bargain with her, Nicole smiled that she wanted to continue playing the role of Mrs. EJ DiMera. "We are going to be inseparable," Nicole cooed as she pulled EJ in for a passionate kiss. Nicole excused herself to spend quality time with the children. Later, Lexie ran into Nicole at the pier. Nicole shared her honeymoon plans with Lexie, who reacted with confusion. At the DiMera mansion, EJ went to Taylor's room. "You wanna tell me what the hell is going on?" Taylor asked. EJ was unable to explain his reasons, but admitted that he was staying with Nicole. Taylor broke down in tears. When EJ tried to comfort her, she pushed him away. EJ pleaded that he wanted to be with Taylor but there were things he had done that would keep them apart. "You owe me an explanation," Taylor asserted. "I can't tell you anything more," EJ quietly responded. "I'm so sorry, Taylor." She accused him of misleading her. "You're a liar," Taylor charged, "and I'm a fool." EJ swore that his intentions toward Taylor were sincere. "Leave me alone," she answered. EJ left and Taylor wept. Later, the tension between EJ and Nicole eased when they pulled themselves together in front of Sydney. Taylor observed them together and left the mansion for good.
