DAYS Week of March 3, 2008
Monday
At the pub, Nick told Stephanie about the grant he was applying for about the science of going green. Chelsea arrived bearing bad news: Bo's pancreas was failing and no one knew why. Max showed up, noting he just had his hearing (for hiding Ford's body) and was given community service. Morgan arrived excited, because she'd just applied for an internship. Chelsea and Max quickly brought her down, filling her in on Bo's condition, Grandpa Shawn's death, etc. Morgan offered everyone her sympathies, then she encouraged Nick to apply for his grant nonetheless. Max interrupted and got on Morgan for taking Nick away from Chelsea when she needed him. Max returned to his table and began leafing through Nick's binder. He tore out a page and put it in his pocket, as Morgan watched. Steph returned, saw Max perusing Nick's binder, and said she hoped Nick would be successful. "Yeah," muttered Max. "You're not jealous, are you?" asked Steph, noting Max was "special," too. With that Max went to tend bar and Steph took Nick his books, noting he shouldn't leave them lying around. Morgan reiterated the same thing and told Nick she had something to tell him about Max.
While a frustrated Ava perused pictures of the plane crash passengers, Steve fussed over Kayla. There was a knock on the door, and Steve went into the hall to talk to Abe. Abe explained the check he ran on Ava produced a long rap sheet. Steve told Abe about his past with Ava. During the time Stefano was holding him, he escaped for about a year. "Don't tell me that you hooked up with this woman," said Abe. Kayla interrupted, and Steve said they were discussing the sabotage of John's plane. The men came inside and continued their talk, and Kayla left them alone. Steve explained how he got involved with Ava, whose family was into drugs, guns and extortion. Ava was pushing him to get married, but somehow Steve knew he couldn't do that and took off. "So why are you dredging all this up?" asked Abe. Steve said he's not — Ava is. She's in town and obsessed with him. Steve explained Ava had mental problems and was responsible for the sabotage of John's plane. Abe insisted Steve report this. Steve said there was no point. Ava would deny it. Then, he told Abe about the threatening note Ava sent and asked Abe for access to all his resources. Abe promised to do whatever he could to help, but he wondered why Ava would be willing to kill everyone on the plane just to get Steve. Steve had no clue. He asked for a copy of the report on Ava and thanked Abe for his help. Later, Steve got back to fussing over Kayla, who couldn't help but wonder why. Steve covered, insisting he liked being close to his wife, and Kayla snuggled up to him.
Chloe arose after sleeping in again, and asked Philip for a big favor. (Yes, bigger than hiring her a team of lawyers and giving her a place to stay, despite the fact that Victor believed she had everything to do with Brady's disappearance.) Chloe confessed she was out of cash and needed to stay at the mansion longer. Philip, who believed Chloe was innocent, reluctantly agreed. Chloe ran outside and carted in more luggage. Philip probed Chloe about her marital problems with Brady. Chloe said it was none of Philip's business and told him to stop pushing her about it. Later, Philip overheard Chloe on the phone talking in German. He walked into the room and discreetly turned on a tape recorder. When Chloe hung up, she explained she was having some things shipped from Austria. Chloe left and Philip phoned someone, instructing him to get there, pronto. A man arrived and translated the tape for Philip. Chloe was talking to her agent. She asked him not to say anything about her argument with Brady, especially the part where she said, "I could kill you." It was just a figure of speech. Chloe told her agent she'd owe him if he kept quiet. Suddenly, Chloe walked in and asked what was going on.
Tuesday
EJ arrived at Sami's with annulment papers. Sami perused them, not wanting to fall for any more DiMera tricks. EJ noted he wasn't a DiMera anymore; Stefano had disowned him. In fact, he'd have to get a job. He had a family to support, and that was important to him. Sami countered it was important to her to get out of this marriage. EJ told her to sign the papers. Sami was concerned about the registered letter EJ had received and insisted he open it. EJ obliged to find his visa had expired. "It never occurred to me that they could kick me out of the country," said EJ. Concerned, Sami came up with an idea. Couldn't EJ use the fact that his son is an American and that he's married to Sami to get a visa? EJ thought it was a good place to start. She handed him the unsigned annulment papers. EJ asked why she was choosing to help him. Sami said not to read too much into it. She'd sign the papers once his visa was straightened out.
Chelsea fed peanuts to the squirrels in the park, sobbing that her Grandpa Shawn wouldn't be around to do it anymore. After wiping her runny nose on the pants of the guy next to her, she apologized and went on about her grandpa dying and her dad being sick. "Go ahead and let it out. I got a whole other pants leg," the guy cracked, when he suddenly received a page and had to go.
Steve and Kayla were taking a walk when Steve insisted they head home. "Why don't you want me outside?" asked Kayla. Steve claimed he didn't want her overexerting herself. Kayla swore she and the baby were fine and urged Steve to relax. He did as he looked off and saw the spot where they were married. Cue the flashback! "That was the happiest day of my life," smiled Kayla, recounting how sad her life had been after Steve "died." But at least she had family around her, while he was alone with no one who cared about him. Steve remembered his steamy past with Ava, as the pair frolicked in bed and discussed "family business." Ava chuckled that if Steve really wanted to win her daddy's trust, he could make an honest woman out of her. Steve snapped back to the present and told Kayla not to dwell on the past. The pair continued to bond, feeding peanuts to the squirrels, talking about their baby, and exchanging "I love you"s. Steve thought back to Ava saying she wanted him back. In the present, Kayla finally said she was ready to head home, much to Steve's delight.
Ava stared at a picture of Hope, who she thinks is Steve's wife, and said she had to figure out what her name was. Ava headed to the door and screamed for her Daddy or the goon guarding her to let her out. She had to learn everything there was to know about Steve's "wife." Finally, Eddie slipped Ava the name of all the women on the plane. "So your name's Kayla," cooed Ava. "You're Patch's wife. I gotcha!"
At the hospital, Bo, Hope and Shawn reminisced about happy times on the Fancy Face, when Hope demanded they stop. "You're talking like it's over, and it's not. We have a lot of happy times ahead of us," insisted Hope. Victor arrived and guaranteed it — he'd found a special diagnostician/surgeon to tend to Bo. Later, Lexie and Bo's family, including Chelsea, met the medical wizard, who just happened to be the stranger in the park: Dr. Daniel Jonas. Victor introduced everyone to his brilliant godson, who vowed to do what he could to help Bo. Lexie brought Daniel up to speed on Bo's case. Then, Daniel asked for one-on-one time with Bo. Outside, Hope thanked her father-in-law for his help. Chelsea sipped coffee and cried, when Daniel emerged, startled her, and her cup flew into the air. "What do you have against my pants?" cracked Daniel. The pair properly introduced themselves, and Chelsea asked Daniel if he could make her dad well. Daniel promised to do his best. Inside Bo's room, he and Hope agreed that things were looking up.
Wednesday
At the Java Café, Nick asked Max why he was trying to screw up his grant. "I don't know what you're talking about," replied Max. Nick said Morgan saw Max rip a page out of his notebook. Max swore he just needed a piece of paper to write a phone number on. He took the paper out of his pocket and handed it to Nick. Max told Nick he had to get to work and wished him good luck with his calculations. Later, someone looked over Nick's notes, said one of his formulas was off, and told Nick to recheck everything. Nick called Max and asked why he tore that particular page out of his binder. Max had no reason, so Nick decided it was a coincidence.
Morgan, Stephanie and Chelsea were out jogging. Morgan and Steph vowed to be there for Chelsea during this trying time with her dad. The gals' cell phones rang. Afterwards, they realized their calls were all about interviewing for internships. Chelsea decided to reschedule her interview, so she could check on Bo, while Morgan and Steph went over their schedules.
Tony strolled into Anna's office, but she was busy and asked him to go. The phone rang, and Tony listened as Anna chatted with a potential client. When she hung up, Tony urged Anna to come work with him. "Work for you, is what you mean, isn't it? No thanks," retorted Anna. Tony wished her luck and left. Later, Morgan arrived at Tony's office and passed her interview with flying colors. Tony agreed she could intern there. Meanwhile, Steph arrived for her interview with Anna, who admitted she was trying to prove herself to Tony. Steph offered to help, and Anna hired her. Later, Anna dropped by Tony's office to tell him she'd started assembling her staff and things were going great. Tony told Anna he wanted her to succeed and loved her, which meant a lot to her. He also said he'd never pitch or bid against Anna, which infuriated her. Anna didn't want Tony's charity and stormed off.
Morgan found Chelsea at the docks and told her she got her internship. Then, she called and canceled her appointment with Anna. Steph arrived, noting she got her internship. Then she took a call from Tony, who canceled their appointment. Steph and Morgan discussed their jobs. Chelsea pointed out they'd be rivals.
Marlena found John going through Stefano's paperwork at the mansion. The doorbell rang, and it was Rolf. "I'm glad you could make it," said John. A perplexed Marlena noted that Rolf "needed to be in prison." John said he decided not to press charges. "After all he's done to you?" asked Marlena, adding that having Rolf around put John in jeopardy. John didn't buy it and asked Marlena why she'd stopped by. "To invite you to a little family supper," she said. John promised to let her know. After Marlena left, John pondered her invitation and offered Rolf a job as his butler. Rolf accepted and recalled Stefano explaining how John's entire life had been extracted from his brain and placed on a disk. John instructed Rolf to shut down his lab and bring him the key. Rolf reluctantly obliged. Then, he hid the disc with John's memories in the safe behind Stefano's portrait.
Caroline was tidying the pub when Victor showed up looking for a cup of joe. Caroline invited him in, and they exchanged worries about Bo. Victor admitted he was having trouble sleeping, was short tempered and couldn't concentrate. He kept thinking about Isabella and couldn't bear to lose Bo the same way. Marlena arrived. She and Caroline chatted about Bo and how frustrating John was. Caroline suggested Marlena concentrate on work. Marlena joined Victor at his table and offered some counsel. She suggested Victor come see her, professionally. Victor decided to give it a try.
Thursday
Sami and EJ arrived at the pub with the twins. Caroline took Johnny to the kitchen to prepare his bottle. Alone, Sami and EJ ordered lunch and discussed his visa. Leonard Burk, an immigration enforcer, arrived to talk to EJ. He asked if EJ was employed. EJ admitted he wasn't, not that being married to Sami wasn't a full-time job. Burk pointed out lots of marriages were in name only and arranged to stay in the country. EJ assured his and Sami's marriage was real; they had a child. EJ asked if that meant his problems were over. "Your problems are just beginning," asserted Burke, noting the government was clearing undesirables like the DiMeras out of the country. EJ noted he'd been disowned by his family. Sami confirmed it. Burk wanted to speak to Sami alone. "Did you marry Mr. DiMera for love?" he asked. Then, Burk mentioned Sami's twins having separate daddies. He asked if it was true there were forced sexual relations between Sami and EJ, and possibly a forced marriage? Sami went off on Burk and ordered him to leave. EJ applauded his wife's performance, swearing he'd do everything possible to stay in the US. Could he count on Sami's help?
Steve arrived at Abe's office and asked if there was any word on Ava or an update on the plane crash investigation. Abe said the FAA report didn't link the crash to anybody. Steve said they had to find Ava. She threatened Kayla. Kayla arrived looking for Steve. She was desperate to help Bo and wanted to go back to work. Steve opposed the idea. He didn't want Kayla getting over tired or stressed out because it might affect the baby. Kayla stood firm: She was going back to work to help Bo. Steve relented, but asked her to be careful. When Kayla left, Steve made a call requesting a guard for his wife.
Ava begged Eddie to let her out of her room. Eddie said her father wouldn't allow that; especially since Ava ran away a lot. If Eddie wasn't going to let Ava leave, she asked him to sneak in a computer, so she could get information on Patch. Ava remembered the old days with Patch as they sat on a beach, blissfully happy and smooching. Ava snapped back to reality. "Can you offer him that, Kayla?" she asked, still believing Hope was Steve's wife. Later, Ava talked her guard into letting her go out for a while.
Hope found Chelsea at the docks, worrying about Bo. "He's going to make it," assured Hope, reminding Chelsea her father was a fighter. Hope just wished she knew more about Dr. Jonas, the man who had her husband's life in his hands. Dr. J happened by, promised to do his best to save Bo, and asked Hope to trust him. Back at the hospital, Bo told Lexie that while everyone was excited by the addition of Dr. J to his case, he couldn't make it through any of this without her. Soon, Hope, Chelsea and Dr. J arrived. Dr. J told Lexie he wanted to go over Bo's latest test results. Bo told Lexie he wanted Abe to come by and bring him some paperwork. Abe showed up with the work, and everyone expressed their disapproval, including the recently arrived Victor. Suddenly, Bo had a pain attack. Everyone left the room as Dr. J and Lexie tended to Bo. Hope, Victor and Chelsea comforted each other. Dr. J informed Lexie that Bo's pancreas was still shutting down. Later, Chelsea asked Dr. J if her dad was going to die. "Not on my watch," he vowed. Meanwhile, Lexie told Hope that Bo's chances weren't good. Alone with Bo, Hope begged him to keep fighting, as Chelsea looked on.
Friday
At Chez Rouge, Kate was finishing up a business meeting with Mr. Parish when Chelsea arrived. Kate explained she'd bought a new company and Mr. Parish wanted to feature her products in his stores. Dr. Jonas arrived, and Chelsea introduced him to Kate. Kate said she'd heard about him, and Dr. J realized Kate had been married to Victor. Chelsea asked if the doc would be staying in town. Dr. J doubted it, as there were no waves in Salem. Chelsea and Dr. J chatted about surfing, until he excused himself to join some colleagues. Kate called Chelsea on her new crush. Dr. J sent two glasses of wine to Kate and Chelsea's table. Chelsea wondered if he was married. Kate headed to Dr. J's table to find out, asking if his wife would be upset he sent drinks to two single women. "She might, if I were married," he retorted. Kate returned and told Chelsea the news. "He could have a girlfriend," noted Chelsea. Kate said girlfriends were fair game.
Stephanie found Max working on the docks and was confused. Hadn't he quit his job at Cheatin' Heart so he could devote more time to the pub? Max said he was doing his community service. Steph blamed herself for getting him into this mess. Max insisted she let that go. The pair chatted about missing Grandpa Shawn. Steph offered to take Max's shifts at the pub; it would give her a chance to show how Max means to her. Max said he had to get back to work, so Steph left, hoping to see him at the pub later.
Belle walked into the pub and asked why Shawn wanted her to get all dressed up. "I'm gonna show you," said Shawn, as the pair raced past Chloe and Philip. Chloe asked if Philip was still infatuated with Belle. Philip said he'd made peace with Shawn and Belle. Chloe wished she'd done the same with Brady. Philip revealed that he knew Chloe said, "I can just kill you," before Brady vanished. He'd taped her phone call and had it translated. Chloe admitted she'd said it, but didn't mean it. Philip asked about the drama in Chloe and Brady's marriage. Chloe pointed out the drama in Philip's life — namely, his marriage, divorce and affair with Belle. Philip reiterated he'd moved on and wanted to find Brady so Chloe could move on, too...perhaps with him. "Don't hold your breath," snapped Chloe, calling Philip "a chip off the old Victor block." Philip asked if Chloe was afraid of a real man. When Chloe got up to leave, Philip apologized for giving her a hard time. He promised to back off, if she was honest with him. "I'm the only friend you have left in this world," he noted. Alone, Chloe whispered, "You wouldn't be my friend if you knew what happened before Brady disappeared."
Shawn walked Belle through the snow. Then, he professed his love and asked Belle to marry him again, right there, with the open sky and God as their witnesses. The couple exchanged vows and talked about their perfect marriage, take two. They both wanted a fresh start. When Shawn mentioned Bo and Hope sailing around the world with him, Belle asked if he wanted to do that again. The couple decided to sail off into the sunset together, once Bo was better.
Steph arrived at the pub and told Caroline about her internship. Caroline encouraged Steph to share the news with Max. Steph wondered why he wasn't there yet. Caroline said Max made a stop on his way to the pub every day. At the cemetery, Max placed flowers on Grandpa Shawn's grave and went on about missing him. He confessed that he got in trouble for someone he loved, but would do anything for her. Steph listened as Max went on about how he wished he'd been a Brady by blood. Steph walked over and told Max he was a real Brady. Max thanked her. Steph said she had a lot to be thankful about, most of all Max. Max showed Steph an Irish coin his father gave him and told him to put in his pocket. Max said it would say there, until he had someone to pass it on to. When Max walked off, Steph thanked Grandpa Shawn for raising a great son. "I think I'm falling in love, and I should tell him soon," she whispered.
