DAYS Week of March 21, 2011
Monday
Rafe flipped out after Sami revealed that she invited Dario to move in with them and threw his coffee cup against the wall. "What the hell's wrong with you?" he asked. Sami explained she thought it would help Dario and Rafe mend fences. Rafe snapped at her that it just put pressure on him. He threatened that things wouldn't work out between them if she kept pushing. She angrily told him she felt the same way. He got nervous that she was so mad and apologized for freaking out. He claimed to have a headache. She was only slightly mollified, then he pretended to pass out. She yelled for someone to call 911. At the hospital, Carly checked him out. He "came to" and called for Sami. He didn't recognize Carly, which alarmed them. Rafe also claimed not to remember how he wound up in the hospital. When Sami told him about the fight about Dario, he suddenly clutched his head. Sami called for the nurse. Maxine said his blood pressure was high, but he appeared stable otherwise. Sami left with Maxine to fill out paperwork. Carly found Sami and revealed that Rafe's tests were not adding up because his MRI was normal.
Melanie arrived at the loft to talk to Rafe, but found a shirtless Dario, who had been working out. They bickered. He poured water over her head, then went into the shower. When he came out, he was annoyed she was still there. She asked why he needed money so badly. He said it was for Arianna and that he needed to pay a private eye who was looking into her hit-and-run.
Carly entered the Java Caf and spied Vivian. Carly had a flashback to when Vivian buried her alive years ago. Vivian thought about being held in the crypt last year. She told Carly about it, then needled Carly about her breakup with Bo. Carly insisted Bo loved her and went to great lengths to protect her from Vivian. Carly left in a huff as Maggie entered. Viv congratulated Maggie for winning Victor.
At the hospital, Nathan spoke to a doctor at Johns Hopkins and asked if the job opportunity there was still available. Stephanie overheard him on the phone. He told her he was leaving Salem, but that it had nothing to do with her. What about Melanie, she asked. He said Mel didn't know about it, adding that Melanie thought it was too late for them. "Then it is my fault," Stephanie pointed out. Nathan said it was his fault for not fighting harder for Melanie. He told Steph she was great and he wished the best for her. "You deserve somebody who loves you," he said. They hugged. He headed to the Horton house, where he ran into Maggie, who was leaving a note for Jennifer. She could tell he had something on his mind. He told her about calling Johns Hopkins. "A big change sounds so good right now," he confessed. She asked if it had to do with Melanie. He admitted that Mel didn't want him in her life. Maggie said he was a catch and deserved someone who loved him. They had a good talk.
Stefano had Rafe moved out of the mansion. He warned Marco not to underestimate Hernandez. Kate came in after and could tell he was bothered by something. He didn't want to elaborate, but feared he had not made the right move with something. The conversation turned to Chad. He admitted he wanted to have a good relationship with his son. They both said how happy they were to be reunited and kissed.... Kate encountered Vivian on the pier. Vivian snooped around about all things DiMera.... "Rafe" called Stefano and summoned him to the hospital. Stefano entered just as Sami was complaining to Carly that the man in the room was not Rafe.
Tuesday
Stefano arrived at the hospital and overheard Sami saying that Rafe isn't the same as he was before the accident. "He's a stranger," she sighed. "One I don't like very much." Sami vowed she wouldn't give up and would get the old Rafe back. The women walked off. Stefano entered "Rafe's" room and demanded to know what the imposter had done now. "Rafe" explained what happened; Stefano told him that he had screwed up big time and implored the double to just follow his orders. The Phoenix slipped out.
Maggie called Victor but got nervous and hung up on him after saying hello. "That went well," they both noted. Victor called her back and said he thought they got cut off. She admitted she hung up on him. "I think you're conflicted," he observed. She warned him not to be a smart aleck, then spied a photo of her and Mickey on the table. She invited Victor to lunch at Chez Rouge. He met her in the private dining room, where she poured champagne for them. She told him that she feels alive around him and it's hard to fend him off. "I've tried," she said. "I think this lunch was my way of saying that I'm giving up trying." He was speechless at first. She was enthusiastic about what was to come; he promised they'd have fun. He toasted to the woman of his dreams. "To us and the future," she added.
Philip entered the Brady Pub to find Chloe on the phone. She revealed she got an offer from the Seattle Opera Company but that she had to turn it down because of Parker. She was determined to pull herself together, get a job and stay in Salem. She reported that she put a flyer up at Salem U to teach voice lessons.... Justin met her after to discuss her divorce from Daniel. She said she didn't want any money from him, since she had ruined his life. Justin remarked that she seemed to be in good shape. She praised Philip for helping her.
At Java Caf, Abigail and Gabi ran into Chad. He quickly excused himself to get air. They were both confused. He returned and apologized for being weird. He explained that he was behind on his tuition and was checking the balance online, only to discover it had been paid. He suspected it was DA Woods, but when he checked, he found out it wasn't. He called the bursar's office and discovered he was awarded a scholarship because he's Stefano's son. He headed to the DiMera manse to talk to his dad about it. He and Stefano played chess; Stefano asked him about moving in. Chad won, though he suspected Stefano let him.
Dario and Melanie continued bickering at the loft. He chided her for not doing anything to find Arianna's killer. More arguing ensued.... Sami called Gabi and reported that "Rafe" had a seizure. Gabi called Dario and filled him in.... A "vulnerable" Rafe II apologized to Sami for freaking out on her about Dario moving in. She was moved by his words and said they would figure out what was wrong with him and fix it. The Hernandez sibs arrived at the hospital and visited with "Rafe". He apologized for being a jerk and insisted to Dario that he wanted him to move in. Sami knew that things weren't totally right. Carly got "Rafe's" test results back and was confused.
Melanie met with Philip to discuss moving ahead with their divorce. He wished her the best; she did the same for him.
Wednesday
EJ, Sydney, Johnny and Nicole had a family outing to the Java Café. EJ was texting a message to Allie from Johnny, updating her about what was going on in Salem. Johnny asked his dad to mention how pretty Aunt Taylor is. EJ flashed back to kissing her, then changed the subject. Nicole asked why her hubby still didn't like her sis. He countered that Taylor didn't like him. When Nicole left with Sydney, Johnny remembered that he wanted to tell Allie that "Rafe" taught him to fight. EJ was not pleased when Johnny remarked that "Rafe" was cooler than he used to be.
Stefano got an update about amnesiac Rafe, who was placed in a mental ward. Rafe got to know his caretaker, Al, who warned him not to ask any questions. When Al left, Rafe was able to get himself out of his handcuffs and figured it was a clue to his old life.
At the hospital, Sami told "Rafe" she was happy he had smoothed things over with this siblings. Carly entered with his test results and reported he was hypoglycemic and had some anxiety and she could give him pills. He said he wasn't into taking pills. Sami followed Carly out and asked her about the meds she wanted to prescribe. Sami asked Dr. M to give them to her with the hope that she could get "Rafe" to take them.... EJ returned home, agitated that Johnny now was enamored with Rafe II. Stefano told him about the problems between Sami and "Rafe" and his faux seizure.
Daniel ran into Jennifer, who was volunteering at the hospital. He told her a job had opened up in the PR department at the hospital and Jen was a perfect candidate for it. She wasn't so sure. He urged her to consider it. Carly came upon them and also implored her to join the staff. Carly headed off duty. So did Daniel. Jennifer asked him to come by the house and drop off some more information about the job, but she was really matchmaking for him and Carly. When Daniel and Carly arrived at the Horton house and Jen wasn't home, they realized what she was up to. Jen hurried in and told them she was making them lunch. Carly asked to speak to Jen alone. Daniel went to the kitchen. Carly pointed out to her pal that neither she nor Daniel was ready to move on into another relationship and asked Jen to stop trying to set them up. Jen promised she would, then told Daniel she was going to take the job.
Nicole and Chloe met up at the Brady Pub. Nic spied Brady and Taylor at a table. Brady gave Mrs. DiMera a less-than-warm welcome and told his exes that he was busy. The ladies headed to Java instead. Taylor observed that Brady still loved Nicole. He got defensive.... At Java, Nicole told Chloe how good her marriage was and how she and EJ were falling in love again.
Sami took "Rafe" home, then headed to the store to buy food to make him lunch. After she left, EJ and Stefano called the imposter. EJ was angry that the double had screwed up. He gave him two weeks to figure things out, then reminded him what happened to the other Rafe. Sami returned after borrowing eggs from Gladys the neighbor and found her agitated "hubby". He said he was trying to call Dario, but kept getting his brother's voicemail. Sami didn't buy that was what frustrated him. He admitted to being edgy in general. Sami slipped a pill into his coffee. When her back was turned, he sneaked some alcohol into it. She prepared his scrambled eggs and served him. He got frisky with her, then a little loopy and revealed he had a secret.
Back at the mansion, Stefano told EJ about Chad's visit and how he thought his son may move in. He urged EJ to get Nicole's extended family out of the house.... EJ headed to the Pub and spied Taylor with Brady.
Thursday
Dario went to the hospital to see Rafe, but he was already discharged. Dario wasn't thrilled to run into Melanie. They began talking about Arianna; Stephanie approached them. Melanie took off. Stephanie told Dario about Melanie's shady past and warned him that Mel was trouble. He assured her he could handle himself — and Melanie.
Bo and Hope brought Theo and Ciara to Alice's house. While the kids were eating cookies in the kitchen, Bo and Hope looked through old boxes. They found a scrapbook of photos, including their 1985 wedding in England and other memorable moments. She told him that she appreciated him and wanted to recapture the feelings they used to have for each other. They talked about how strong their bond was when they first fell in love. They kissed; Ciara came in and smiled when she saw them. Hope told Bo that she felt their marriage completely imploded when Ciara was kidnapped. Feeling she was to blame, a dejected Ciara backed out without them seeing her. Bo told Hope they could get through their problems. Ciara told Theo that her parents split up because of her and she had to run away so it wouldn't happen again. Theo said he would go with her and they made a pinkie promise.
EJ approached Taylor and Brady's table at the Pub and he and Brady faced off. Taylor told them to knock it off. EJ's cell phone rang so he excused himself. Brady observed that EJ was very protective of Taylor. Taylor played it off. Outside, EJ called Fay to see how she was faring in the guest house. She said she was okay. He "worried" that she was alone and asked if she would feel better if one of her daughters was around. EJ went back into the Pub and told Taylor that Fay needed her. A concerned Taylor headed back to the mansion. Fay explained that EJ called her. Taylor quickly realized what went down. She stormed into the main house and confronted her brother-in-law.
Rafe II, loopy on anti-anxiety meds and alcohol, told Sami he had a secret to tell her. He built up the reveal, then got very frisky and asked if she was into him. She was confused and assured him she was, though she was worried that he was having a strange reaction to the pills she slipped him. She urged him to lie down, then called Carly in a panic. She spied the flask and realized "Rafe" had spiked his drink. "Rafe" came out and told her to forget about her loser ex and began kissing her. She showed him the flask and asked if that was his secret. He said no, it was much more mind-boggling. He told her he wasn't his old self. "I'm me!" he exclaimed.
Kate entered the Brady Pub and spied Vivian sitting with Gus. Viv told Gus to get her a copy of all of Stefano's past crimes and misdemeanors, determined to find a pattern in his nefarious doings. After Gus left, Vivian chatted up Kate and poked around about Stefano's latest plot. Vivian intimated it had to do with Allie, which got Kate's attention. Kate realized she was bluffing. A shoving match ensued and they fell into a cake. After it was broken up, Kate issued a warning to Vivian, then stormed out.
Melanie ran into Brady and told him how Dario hired a private eye to find Arianna's killer. Melanie was smarting from Dario not thinking they cared about Ari. Melanie lamented that Ari was her best friend. Brady said he was Mel's BF, too.
Friday
Chad stopped by the Horton House, where Jennifer was packing boxes. He introduced himself to her and explained he was dropping off notes for Abigail from Spanish class. Abigail came down and thanked him. After Chad left the room, Jen questioned her about her friendship with the DiMera offspring. Abby could tell her mother was bothered and assumed it was about Jack, but Jen explained that it was about Chad. Abby defended her new pal. When Chad returned, Jen quickly hurried out. Abby and Chad talked; he revealed he was moving into the DiMera mansion. She didn't think it was a good idea at all and wasn't sure they could continue being friends.
At the hospital, Dario flashed back to Stephanie's words of warning about Melanie. He then spied her laughing and joking with Daniel and assumed Melanie was scamming the doc. When Melanie took off, Dario approached Dan and told him the 411 on the "naughty" nurse. Daniel got so angry that he punched Dario and revealed Melanie was his daughter. Security arrived to pull the men apart. Dario headed to Java Caf and ran into Stephanie. He told her what happened with Daniel. Melanie entered; Steph beat a hasty exit. Melanie and Dario exchanged harsh words. Again.
Jen arrived at the hospital and saw Daniel's bandaged hand. He told her how he punched a punk who insulted his daughter. She lit into him for damaging his surgery hands. They noticed that they had both removed their wedding rings. Melanie came in with coffee and learned about Jen's new job at the hospital.... Dario applied for a job as a dock worker.
A loopy, drugged Rafe tried to explain what he meant when he told Sami, "I'm me!" Sami was thoroughly confused when he insisted she call him "Baby" and not "Rafe". They eventually started arguing and both confessed that they were unhappy. Sami then admitted she slipped Rafe the anti-anxiety meds. He flipped out then fell asleep on the couch. She wondered what would happen to them.
EJ and Taylor argued in the foyer of the mansion. He pulled her into his arms, pointing out that she couldn't control how she felt. She yelled that he was married to her sister and what was she to do. In a fit of pique, he threw a vase of flowers off of the table and stormed out. Stefano found him on the pier and asked what was wrong. EJ confessed he was in love with Taylor and recounted the story of their meeting. Stefano advised him that if he had an itch, he should scratch it.... Back at the manse, Taylor had a fantasy of kissing EJ. After, she wrote a note to Fay and Taylor, saying she was staying at a hotel for the night. When she opened the door to go, EJ was there. She told him she was leaving; he asked her to stay and they kissed.
