DAYS Week of March 10, 2008
Monday
At the DiMera mansion, Dr. Rolf and John awaited the arrival of Marlena, Belle, Shawn and Claire. The guests were surprised to see how easily John acclimated to living in the house of horrors. Marlena gave him a gift — a photo album filled with snapshots of the past. John didn't look at them. Marlena asked why. He explained that the photos don't mean anything to him. Shawn urged him to look at a few pages, at least to see the shots of Claire. "You fight dirty," John noted. John flipped through and came upon a shot of him and Marlena in Stockholm. "What's wrong with my hair?" John asked. "It's the '80s; you had bad hair," Belle laughed. John had a visible reaction to another shot of him and Marlena. She asked if he remembered anything, but he said no. He walked out. Belle urged him to return to the gathering, but he told her that he's not who they want him to be. She warned him that the new John is a pretty lonely guy. Claire ran out to sit with John. Belle went back into the drawing room, where Shawn asked how it went. "Not well," she replied. She said she could kill Stefano for what he did to John. Rolf walked in at that moment. Shawn asked how they could get John's memory back. Rolf said it was impossible and that his condition is permanent. John and Claire returned to the room; Shawn and Belle sat down to play a game. Rolf came in and freaked out that they were touching Stefano's things. "Actually, it's mine, as is everything in this house," John corrected. They talked about plans for the future. Shawn and Belle mysteriously indicated that they were hoping to embark on a great adventure together. Marlena said that she was going to return to work. John made a pointed remark about Stefano's businesses and plans for the shipping lines.
Steve met with Parker, the informant, in the alley. Parker reported that he was unsuccessful in locating Ava. Stephanie came upon them, having recognized Steve's car parked nearby. Steve shooed Parker away; Steph asked who Parker was. Steve tried to talk his way out of it, saying he was working undercover for the Salem PD, but Steph pressed him for answers. He said that Parker — who knew him at Patch —was looking for a woman they used to know. He explained that during the time Stefano had him, he escaped for a year and got involved with a crime family —and the boss's daughter. Now the daughter —Ava —isn't happy that he left her without an explanation. He told Steph that he put a guard on Kayla and wants to put one on Steph, too. Steph said she would tell Kayla. Steve implored her not to because of the pregnancy. Stephanie reluctantly agreed to keep mum.
Lexie and Kayla conferred about Bo's case at the hospital. They vowed to save Bo's life and hoped Daniel would be able to work some medical magic. Kayla called to confer with a doctor in Zurich, but he didn't have any alternate suggestions for Bo's care. However, he suggested a Web site to check out. On it, Kayla found information about radical procedures with living pancreas donors and the first person to perform the surgery was Dr. Daniel Jonas.
A failing Bo told Hope that they had to face the facts that he wasn't doing well. She refused to give up. He admitted to thinking a lot about Isabella and how she died too young. They took a trip down memory lane, recalling time spent together on the Fancy Face, sailing around the world. (Cue the boat flashbacks!) She urged him to fight for his life. Suddenly, Bo's machines starting beeping and he flatlined. Lexie rushed in and revived him. Kayla comforted Hope outside. Kayla told Hope about the experimental surgery. Lexie then urged Hope to gather the family so they had a chance to say good-bye to Bo.
Tuesday
At the hospital, John and Marlena squabbled over his interest in the DiMera money. She wanted him to visit Bo with her, but he said he'd do it later. He left to get some air.
Max met up with Caroline at the chapel, where they said a prayer for Shawn. Caroline commended him for stepping up in the wake of Shawn's death. She then broke down, saying she couldn't lose Bo. Max assured her she wouldn't.
Daniel talked with Philip, Chelsea, Shawn, Victor, Kayla and Lexie about a radical procedure that could save Bo. Daniel was dubious about doing the procedure, but the others were in favor of it. Dr. Jonas asked to speak to Kayla and Lexie privately. Shawn and Chelsea visited with Bo, who knew that the end was possibly near. Belle brought in Ciara. An emotional Bo held her. Philip came in next and asked if he could speak to Bo alone. Hope was reluctant to leave, but Bo urged her to get something to eat. Once alone, Philip asked Bo to fight like hell and pull through. "So, we're going to start acting like brothers now?" Bo asked. They had a heart to heart about the Shawn/Belle situation and their own relationship. Bo thanked him for coming in.
Marlena comforted Hope. Victor went out on the hospital balcony and encountered a cigar smoking John. John offered Vic a cigar, then announced that he was running the DiMera empire and any agreements that Stefano had with Victor regarding the Salem shipyards were about to change. An irate Victor chastised him for picking such an inopportune moment to discuss it. Victor then put him in his place. Marlena caught the tail end of their discussion. She asked what John said to him. "Just discussing business. Probably a bad time," John noted. "You think? His son might be dying," Marlena replied. She told him about the living donor procedure. He reminded her that he was already a living donor when Stefano stole his kidney. She said they should see if there was anything they could do, but he wanted to finish his cigar. She grabbed the cigar out of his mouth and put it out. "Relight it later," she advised.
Stephanie eavesdropped as Steve talked to the guard he hired to follow Kayla. Steph then went to the chapel and told Caroline and Max about the procedure Dr. Jonas might perform. Steph prayed to God that he would protect their family.
Kayla and Lexie urged Dr. Jonas to do the procedure, but he was reluctant. He relented after they insisted everyone would be willing to risk their own lives to help Bo. After, Kayla told Steve about the procedure and how it required a live donor, but he pointed out that she was pregnant and wasn't a candidate.
Victor told Philip that they would need to discuss his conversation with John at a later date.... Lexie and Daniel told the crowd that they would do the procedure. Shawn fetched Hope. Daniel explained about the living donor transplant and the potential harm to both Bo and the donor. John overheard and said as the only objective person, he thinks that they should do the procedure. Hope went to Bo's room to tell him about it. He refused to allow anyone to put their life at risk. Both Hope and Caroline insisted he get on board. The testing began; the family went to the chapel to pray.
Wednesday
A rattled Lexie got testy with Daniel because he didn’t tell them about the procedure earlier. Daniel pointed out that it was risky and experimental and there were no guarantees. When Lexie got upset, Daniel consoled her. She admitted that she couldn’t imagine life without Bo. Abe arrived to check in on Bo and tried to calm Lexie’s nerves. Daniel headed to the cafeteria. Abe told Lexie that she needed to take a break and that Theo missed her.
At Chez Rouge, Marlena and Dr. Berman discussed an upcoming silent auction to raise money to build a new hospital wing. She got distracted when she spied John with a man. Dr. Berman — who had signed John’s death certificate — was thrown. He insisted he did everything according to procedure in the wake of John’s hit-and-run. Marlena assured her colleague that there was no blame. He excused himself. John introduced the man, Paul Hollingsworth, a customs official, to Marlena. He said that they were discussing some DiMera operations. Marlena asked what John was up to, but he was evasive. The men sat down and John asked Paul about the docks. Marlena deduced that John was trying to have his shipments moved along quicker than Victor’s. When Paul left, Marlena asked why John would target his former father-in-law. He replied that he was just being a good businessman. She said his behavior frightened her. He suggested that she just pretend that the old John Black died. She said she couldn’t do that. After John left, she called Philip. She then tailed John to the docks and threatened to turn him into the authorities if he tried to bribe the customs official. “If you take that step, you’re crossing a line. You won’t be able to come back,” she warned. He asked her what he had to go back to. “Me. All of me,” she replied, then kissed him. He kissed her back, then pushed her away and looked at her blankly. He took off. She was relieved he didn’t go through with the bribe.
Stephanie told Steve that she ditched her guard. Steve called him up and fired him, since it proved that he wasn’t a good guard if she could lose him so easily. Steve asked how things were going with Max. Steph said they were good and that she was on her way to surprise him. When Steph left, Steve called to get another guard assigned to her.
Hope sat with Bo in his room while Kayla checked his vitals. Chelsea came in to say hi, then left for class. Hope urged Bo to remain strong and cuddled with him.
Max and Nick met up on the docks. “How’s it going?” asked Nick. “Living the dream,” cracked Max. Nick told Max he wanted to make sure that they were cool in light of the notebook drama. “It kind of seemed like you were trying to ruin my career,” Nick noted. Max denied it and they had a mini heart to heart. After, Steph arrived with Chelsea. Steph gave Max some soup. He was feeling all down on himself and told her that she could do better than him. She insisted he was amazing and that she wasn’t going to let him break up with her. He asked about Bo and she gave him an update. He noted that his family needed to catch a break. She mentioned some trouble with her parents, but didn’t elaborate. Chelsea asked if they wanted coffee. Steph said she’d go get it. When she was gone, Max again looked at Nick’s notes. Steph spied him when she came back and asked what was up. Nick promised Chelsea he’d be there for her.
Steve suggested that Kayla go home, but she didn’t want to leave. Steve roped Dr. Jonas in and Daniel encouraged Kayla to go rest. Steve and Kayla went back to the hotel, where they got romantic.
Thursday
Eddie tried to convince Ava that Hope wasn't married to Patch, but she wouldn't believe it. She stared at the photos of them hugging and insisted she was right. Eddie told her he did an Internet search and that Steve is married to a blonde. Ava chastised Eddie for botching the plane tinkering and causing it to crash. "I had it all planned out. The plane was supposed to stay on the ground, everybody was supposed to get off and then I would have had a chance to talk to Patch," she noted. Eddie got tired of her complaining, told her she was messed up in the head and announced that he would no longer work for her. Another guard, George, came in and asked Ava what was up with Eddie. Ava blew it off and asked George for a favor. He told her it was time for her therapy session. An irate Ava met with her doctor, but the session didn't go well.
At the hotel, Kayla and Steve basked in the afterglow of their lovemaking, then they returned to the hospital.
In the lab, Daniel checked in with Lexie about blood-type matches for Bo. She said she had three potentials. He urged her to work faster; they bickered. Kayla entered and asked about their progress. She and Lexie worked to find a match and were happy when Daniel told them that Bo needed to be prepped for surgery. Kayla said she’d stay with Bo during the surgery while Lexie would go with the donor.
Hope prayed for Bo's speedy recovery. He woke up just as Shawn and Belle came in to visit. Steve came in next. Bo asked if he could talk to Steve alone. Bo asked his pal to be there for Hope and the kids should he die. "That goes without saying," Steve replied, then reminded Bo that the conversation was premature. Steve joined the others in the hall. Hope asked what Bo said to him. Steve told her that Bo was worried about her. Steve sent Shawn in to talk to his father. Bo asked Shawn to become the man of the family if he dies. Shawn told his father that that wasn’t going to happen. He then revealed to Bo that he, Belle and Claire planned to sail around the world — just like Bo and Hope did when he was younger — and he couldn’t do that if Bo wasn’t around. "So, you're gonna guilt me into not dying?" Bo asked. "Whatever it takes," Shawn responded and gave his dad a pep talk. Outside, Hope commented to Steve that she knew Bo had lost his fighting spirit. Shawn left the room and Hope grilled him about his talk with Bo. Hope said that Bo just wanted to talk. Hope pressed him, but Shawn avoided answering her directly, so Steve stepped in and admitted that Bo was making arrangements. "What do you mean he's making arrangements?" she queried. Steve said that Bo wanted things in place. Hope was upset to hear that Bo was thinking it was the end. "His first priority should be getting well," she noted. She went into Bo’s room to straighten him out.
Friday
Caroline ran into Victor in the park. They sat and talked on a bench. She broke down in tears about Bo's illness. He said Bo would pull through and that they needed to believe Daniel could do the transplant successfully. They talked about potential donors. Victor said his age and heart condition eliminated him, to his dismay. "I'd gladly give my life for my son," Vic noted. "Oh, Victor, please. Shawn already did that. Do you think Bo could live with the thought of knowing both his fathers died to save his life?" she responded.
Chelsea got soused at the Cheatin' Heart. Kate tracked her down and admonished her for turning off her cell phone. "Did it ever occur to you that, I don't know, maybe I don't want to be found?" Chelsea asked. Kate told Chelsea that she was acting as though Bo was already dead. Chelsea called herself the kiss of death and a jinx, pointing out that her adoptive parents, Zack, Ford Decker and Grandpa Shawn have all died. Kate said she was being ridiculous and tried to sober her up. A weepy Chelsea ran off. Kate called Nick to ask for help.
Kayla revealed to Shawn and Belle that they found a compatible donor and asked to speak to Shawn alone about it.
Lexie and Daniel continued the preparations for the transplant surgery. Kayla came into the lab with Shawn. They told him he wasn't the donor, but wouldn't reveal who the match was because they couldn't find the person. They asked Shawn to help them manage the family's questions until they found the donor match. Daniel fretted that the person wasn't answering their phone.
Hope worried that the end was near for Bo. Steve urged her to be strong. Bo woke up as the family gathered outside of his room. Kayla told Bo and Hope that they had found a compatible donor and that ORs were being set up. The group came in and Kayla finally revealed that the donor is Chelsea. Bo refused to let his daughter do it. Victor, Caroline and Hope tried to talk him out of it, but he held firm. Shawn told Kayla that he had called the whole family, but couldn't get through to Chelsea. Kayla filled him in about Chelsea being the donor and that she had to be found. Shawn and Belle headed to the Cheatin' Heart to look for his sister. Victor got his men in on the search.
In the park, Chelsea finally turned her cell phone on and was surprised to have so many voicemails. She passed out before listening to them. Kate found her, just as Shawn called. She picked up and told Shawn where they were. Shawn called Dr. Jonas and reported in about Chelsea. He headed out, but not before fuming about Chelsea's condition. Lexie summoned Steve and Kayla to the lab and told them that Chelsea was found, but she's drunk and that might be a problem for the surgery. In his room, Bo asked why Chelsea hadn't been into see him. Hope admitted that they couldn't find her. Bo took that as a sign that she shouldn't be the donor.
Shawn and Belle arrived in the park and tried to shake Chelsea awake. Shawn was about to carry her out when Daniel arrived and took Chelsea in his arms. He headed to the hospital.
