DAYS Week of March 1, 2010

Monday

Sami read the ransom note and wondered if Sydney was alive. EJ thought it made sense. The kidnappers wanted money and just tossed Sydney's clothes in the river to throw the feds off their scent. EJ said he believed this was their last chance. "That means no outside involvement," he told Sami. Rafe approached and asked what was going on. EJ said Sami was thinking of canceling the ceremony for Sydney. Rafe noted he'd dropped the twins at the pub. Sami asked Rafe to go check on them. Alone, Sami and EJ went back and forth about keeping the note from Rafe. "Let me take charge," urged EJ. Sami said she needed time to figure out what to do, insisting Rafe deserved to know the truth. EJ claimed involving Rafe would be a huge mistake and pointed out what happened last time. Finally, Sami decided to keep mum if that's what it took to get Sydney back. Rafe found Arianna at the pub and told her the family gathering was off, because EJ decided it was a bad idea. Arianna defended EJ, calling him a loving and devoted father. "What's going on with you two?" asked Rafe. Later, Rafe returned to the pier. EJ announced he and Sami decided not to tell the twins about Sydney. Rafe, who was toting a bouquet of flowers, tossed them into the river, saying Sydney would never be forgotten. Sami cried.
Anna thought back to EJ leaving the cabin with the ransom note, his plan to keep Sydney from Sami, and his insistence that he was doing Sami a favor by pushing Rafe out of her life. She hated EJ's plan. "Nothing good will ever come from it," she muttered.
Carly phoned the hospital to check on Melanie, but they wouldn't give her any information. Carly yelled that she was Melanie' mother. Maggie interrupted, noting playing the mother card was a stretch. Maggie reminded Carly she was the one who put Melanie in the hospital. Carly reminded Maggie that Vivian was trying to kill Melanie. "What should I have done? Just stood there and done nothing?" retorted Carly. Maggie told Carly how precious Melanie was to her. Carly said she was grateful Melanie had her. She asked if Maggie knew Trent. Maggie only knew about him and thought his treatment of Melanie was unforgivable. Carly helped Maggie, who was having trouble walking, into the pub and left. She realized Melanie would be looked after no matter what happened to her. Later, Maggie was in her kitchen, when she dropped a cup. "It's coming back," she realized.
Daniel was at Melanie's bedside staring at her, when she woke up. "I'm going to die, aren't I?" asked Melanie. Daniel assured she wasn't. Melanie thanked Daniel for saving her life. Daniel said he had something to tell her; then, decided to wait until she was stronger. Daniel was leaving when he got a text from Carly summoning him to meet her. Daniel joined Carly at the pub. He told her he hadn't told Melanie he was her father. Daniel fretted that Melanie would wonder why they'd abandoned her. He went on about how messed up this whole situation was. "You can still be her father," offered Carly. Daniel told Carly to shut up, insisting that a "candy-coated future" wouldn't make this okay. Daniel hated that he wasn't there for Melanie and that Trent pimped her out. "There's nothing you can do or say that will ever lessen the pain of what you've done to my little girl. You don't deserve her," spat Daniel.
Arianna visited Melanie at the hospital. They discussed her wedding day nightmare. Melanie went off about Carly abandoning her as a baby, leaving her with awful Trent, and ruining her whole childhood. "How can I forgive her for that?" cried Melanie.

Tuesday

EJ arrived at the cabin and questioned Anna about the last phase of their plan. Anna said everything was done. EJ was delighted, knowing Sami and Rafe would soon be history. Anna questioned EJ's feelings for Sami. EJ insisted he didn't have any. All this plotting was to insure his children's stability. EJ wanted them to grow up in the same house as one family.
Sami flashed back to reading the ransom note. Rafe sensed something was amiss. Sami dodged. Rafe asked why she postponed the gathering. Sami thought things were too rushed. Rafe didn't buy it and asked what EJ told her in private. Sami got angry. EJ phoned and told Sami he was on his way over and ordered her to get rid of Rafe. Sami hung up and told Rafe that EJ was going to drop off Johnny. Rafe left, telling Sami he loved her no matter what was going on. EJ arrived with another note from the kidnapper. It instructed Sami and EJ to go to a website. Soon, a video of Sydney was playing on Sami's laptop. "She's alive," exclaimed Sami. A message came on screen to deliver $5 million pronto. Sami freaked that they wouldn't be able to come up with the cash so quickly. EJ said the FBI gave him back the original ransom, promised to get Sydney back, and took off.
Rafe met Roman, and they discussed finding the person who took Sydney. Rafe told Roman something was going on with Sami. He explained about the family gathering and how Sami canceled it. Roman pointed out Sami had lost two babies. Rafe decided to go talk to her.
EJ returned to the cabin and told Anna things went perfectly. Now it was time to see if Sami kept her promise. Namely, not telling Rafe about the note. EJ said the video planted a trojan on Sami's computer that would let him hear and see what was going on at her place. Sami was re-watching the video of Sydney, when Rafe returned.
Brady was desperate to talk to Arianna. She said it was too late. He grabbed and kissed her. Arianna pushed Brady away. Roman arrived and told Brady he spoke to the warden about arranging a visit with Nicole. But Nicole didn't want to see anyone; especially Brady. Brady said someone needed to tell Nicole about Sydney's "death." Arianna went out for some air. Brady asked Roman to ask the warden again. Later, Brady found Arianna in the park. He knew she was upset, but swore she had no reason to worry. Arianna pointed out Nicole was with Brady "all day, every day." Brady swore he just wanted Nicole to know about Sydney and that she was only a friend. Arianna reminded Brady he told Nicole he loved her. Brady said that was past tense and that he couldn't abandon his friend. "A friend who is in prison for kidnapping, Brady!" spat Arianna. "Sydney is dead because of her." Brady noted that Nicole was bringing the tyke home, when she was attacked. Arianna told Brady they weren't going to make until he was loyal only to her. Brady insisted he loved Arianna and asked her to go off with him someplace. It was a surprise.
Mia walked into the Java Caf just as Gabi accepted a date with Chad. Will greeted her with a hug. Mia asked him to fetch her a drink; then, approached Chad. She told him she was worried about Will and needed help cheering him up. Chad agreed to meet Mia to come up with a plan. Chad reconvened with Gabi, brought up his past with Miam and asked if she was okay with it. Chad left, and Will and Gabi chatted. Will said he was sad about Sydney and didn't know what he'd do without Mia. Gabi wondered if Mia was that into Will, noting she had "issues." Will defended Mia. He said he was giving Mia her space, but was sure they'd make it.
Chad arrived to see Mia. She wondered if he was still mad about how badly she treated him when he returned to Salem. She could see he was a better person now and was glad they were friends. Mia admitted she missed Chad and apologized for hurting him. "I wish I wouldn't have pushed you away... I still think about you," she confessed, asking if Chad thought about her. Chad admitted he did, and they kissed. Chad backed off, noting it wasn't right, and took off. Alone, Mia muttered she'd given up worrying about what was right a long time ago.

Wednesday

EJ watched Sami re-watch the video of Sydney. "I can't believe you're still alive," she whimpered. "What did you say?" interrupted Rafe. EJ stewed as Rafe asked if something happened. Sami said it did: EJ sent her a video of Sydney. Rafe asked to watch it. Sami didn't want to put him through that pain. Sami said there was something she needed to tell Rafe. A furious EJ quickly phoned to stop her. He told Sami he made the ransom drop and warned her not to tell Rafe. Then, he asked her to meet him at the mansion. Sami hung up and told Rafe she was taking Johnny to his father's. Rafe was suspicious and went to check Sami's computer. A call interrupted and he took off. At the mansion, Sami and EJ waited to hear from the kidnappers and discussed how suspicious Rafe was. Sami hugged EJ and thanked him for all he's done to get Sydney back. It meant a lot to her.

Nathan returned from paying his and Stephanie's bill at the lodge. He and Steph started smooching, but she stopped him to talk about Melanie. Nathan didn't want to hear about Melanie and insisted she was his past. Nathan resumed kissing Steph to prove it. Post love making Nathan and Steph chitchatted about staying at the lodge another day. Nathan noticed a bunch of messages from Maggie and tried to call her. When he couldn't reach her, he and Steph decided to head home.

Chloe joined Philip at the pub. Philip got a call from the hospital. After he told the board secretary he wouldn't help them discipline Daniel for letting Carly into Melanie's room, Philip shared the news with Chloe. Melanie awoke to find Daniel. She wondered why he was acting so serious. "I'm a doctor," he retorted. Melanie said she wouldn't be there without him. The words brought tears to Daniel's eyes. He tried to cover, but Melanie didn't buy it. She was sure whatever was bothering him had something to do with Carly. Daniel swore he was just tired. Philip arrived and told Daniel the board wanted to discipline him, but he had Daniel's back. Then, Philip got into bed with Melanie. She admitted she couldn't stop thinking about Carly shooting her and the fact she had a father out there. Since Carly wouldn't tell her who he was, Melanie thought he had to be worse than Trent. Philip thought Melanie's father could be a great guy. Melanie pointed out the guy had awful taste in women. A nurse arrived and asked Philip to leave, while she checked Melanie. Melanie brought up Nathan. She wondered if he'd asked about her. The new nurse didn't know Nathan.

Carly called Daniel to discuss how to tell Melanie he was her father, but couldn't reach him. She ended up bumping into a steaming Chloe. "I know everything," announced Chloe. Carly didn't know what Chloe was talking about. Chloe laced into Carly about destroying Daniel's life. Finally, Carly blurted out the big secret Chloe actually didn't know: Melanie is Daniel's daughter. Chloe was stunned and refused to believe it. Daniel interrupted, realized what just happened, and dragged Carly off. Daniel asked who else Carly had told and instructed her to keep her big mouth shut. He had to be the one to tell Melanie he was her dad. Daniel went to talk to Chloe, who wondered about his relationship with Carly. "Did you love her?" asked Chloe. Daniel swore things were never serious between them and hoped this didn't change things between him and Chloe. "You're never going to be the same," pointed out Chloe. "You're a father now."

Carly ran into Rafe on the pier. She offered her condolences about Sydney. Rafe told her Sami was "a mess." Carly thought Sami was lucky to have Rafe looking out for her.

Philip ran into Steph at the Java Caf. She was surprised to seem him in town. Meanwhile, Nathan arrived at the hospital and introduced himself to the new nurse. She said a patient had just been asking about him, a gunshot victim named Kiriakis. "Philip?" asked Nathan. "No. His wife," responded the nurse. Nathan raced to Melanie's room.

Thursday

Bo told Carly that Vivian managed to get into Melanie's hospital room. Carly realized the only person who could stop Vivian was her. Bo insisted he do it. Carly didn't think that was fair. Vivian was after her, so she should have to pay. Hence, she was pleading guilty. Bo was certain Carly would be found innocent. Carly knew Melanie wouldn't testify for her: she hated her. Carly forbade Bo from telling Melanie she held the key to her fate. Bo wouldn't be deterred. Carly insisted she was a curse to everyone. Bo understood Carly wanting to punish herself, yet, he insisted Melanie needed Carly and so did he. If Carly went to jail, he'd miss out on a future with her, which he thought they both wanted. Carly embraced Bo.

Daniel warned Vivian she was never to lift a finger against anyone he cared about again. Victor interrupted. Daniel said he didn't want Vivian near Melanie, revealing she'd sneaked into her room and was obviously trying to kill her. Vivian professed her innocence. Daniel didn't buy it and asked Victor to back him up. "What's Melanie to you?" asked Victor. Daniel said Melanie was a patient he cared about and left. Victor chastised Vivian for visiting Melanie. Vivian admitted she was going to smother Melanie, but didn't go through with it. She realized Melanie is an innocent girl, and Carly was the target. Victor noted the car parked outside. Bo had someone watching her and wanted to make a case against her. Vivian swore she wasn't a threat to Melanie.

Stephanie was surprised to see Philip at the Java Café. "Are you and Melanie still together?" she asked. Philip was perplexed, considering they just got married. Steph apologized, swearing she wanted Philip to be happy. After all, she was happy with Nathan. Philip explained about Carly being Melanie's mother and shooting her. Steph realized Nathan was at the hospital and raced off. Meanwhile, Nathan entered Melanie's room, where she admitted she loved him. Sadly, it was a fantasy. Nathan explained if he'd know Melanie was in the hospital, he would have never left town. Melanie explained she'd been shot. Nathan asked if she'd be okay. "Do you even care?" asked Melanie. "Of course, I care," insisted Nathan, asking how Philip could have let this happen. Melanie explained Philip had nothing to do with it. It was her family. Melanie wondered why Nathan was acting like she mattered to him now. Nathan asked why Melanie asked a nurse why he hadn't visited her sooner. "I think you still care about me," he said. Nathan sensed Melanie was hiding something from him. Melanie flashed back to giving Steph her note and had an anxiety attack. Steph arrived. She told Melanie she'd been out of town. Melanie realized Nathan and Steph went away together. Nathan asked what Melanie was trying to tell him. "Doesn't matter now," said Melanie. Nathan left. Melanie went off about Nathan not bothering to read her letter and told Steph to destroy it. Steph met up with Nathan. He mentioned how furious Melanie seemed to be with him. Steph kept mum about the letter.

Philip found Carly on the pier. She asked about Melanie. Philip started ranting at her, but Carly made him stop. She insisted he couldn't take Melanie back to the Kiriakis mansion while Vivian was there. As Melanie's husband, he had to protect her. Philip returned to the mansion and told Victor and Vivian that Melanie was doing well and would be released. However, she wasn't coming back there unless Victor kicked Vivian out. Victor defended his houseguest. Appalled, Philip left, telling Vivian he never wanted to see her again. Alone, Vivian told Victor she'd move out.

Bo arrived at the hospital to take Melanie's statement. Daniel didn't want her grilled, but finally agreed to let Bo ask Melanie a few questions. Bo explained that when Carly said she was trying to protect Melanie, she wasn't lying. He filled Melanie in on Lawrence's heinous past; then, gave her some advice, "Give your mom a chance." Meanwhile, Carly showed up at the hospital. Daniel ordered her to stay away from Melanie. Carly explained she wanted to see him and apologized for letting their secret slip to Chloe. She wanted to make this up to him. Daniel hoped she'd get the chance, noting Bo was interviewing Melanie. Philip fumed, when he walked in on Bo with Melanie. Melanie said she'd give Bo her statement. Bo got out his recorder. Melanie explained about being on the roof with Vivian, when Carly showed up with a gun, ready to kill her.

Friday

Daniel went off on Carly about Bo grilling Melanie about the shooting. Carly said Bo wouldn't let her do what she wanted to do: plead guilty. Bo believed proving Vivian was behind everything would put her away and keep Melanie safe, that's why he needed Melanie's testimony. Daniel noted he'd talked to Vivian earlier and thought Victor was backing her up. Carly couldn't believe it. Daniel had a change of heart. Maybe Bo was doing the right thing and Melanie was the one person who could nail Vivian. He vowed that no one would hurt his daughter. Carly thought Daniel was great at being a dad. Daniel swore he'd never forget the secrets Carly kept from him. Carly said she hadn't forgotten, either.

Hope lamented to Justin that she lost Bo and didn't want it to be true. "I'm sure that he loves Carly, and I'm sure I don't want to be with someone who doesn't love me," announced Hope. Justin didn't think Bo's situation with Carly was permanent. Hope admitted she still loved Bo, but wasn't necessarily sure she wanted him back. It hurt that he could move on so easily. Justin walked outside and found Carly. He announced he'd decided to take her case. Carly wondered what was in it for him. If she went to prison, Bo and Hope might reconcile. But if she was free, Hope could run into Justin's waiting arms. "Doesn't that guarantee that at least I'll go the extra mile?" retorted Justin.

"Carly looked at me, and she shot me. Case closed," announced Melanie. "Why are you lying?" asked Bo. Philip defended Melanie. Bo defended Carly, insisting she was just trying to protect Melanie. Bo asked Philip to leave. Alone, Bo told Melanie she was in danger. A crazy woman had targeted her. Melanie might get revenge on Carly, but it meant Vivian would get another shot at killing her. Bo told Melanie he wouldn't be able to watch Vivian 24/7. "Are you threatening her?" interrupted Daniel. "Just trying to get her to face facts," declared Bo. Melanie asked Daniel to get Bo out of her room. Bo warned Daniel someone had to get through to Melanie. Melanie told Daniel that Bo asked him to lie to save Carly, insisting she shot her. Melanie asked who's side Daniel was on in all this. "Your side," he responded. Melanie apologized for getting upset with him. Daniel said there was something Melanie needed to know: He and Carly had known each other for years, and he was Melanie's father.

Hope arrived and found Philip. He said Bo and Melanie had been going at it. Hope said Bo was trying to put Vivian away. She scolded Philip, noting he should be grateful Bo was trying to keep Melanie alive. Bo interrupted, and Philip left. Hope suggested that perhaps Bo wasn't the right person to interview Melanie, since he had a relationship with Carly. Hope suggested someone interview Melanie who actually had a shot at gaining her trust, like her.

EJ prepared for the final step of his plan, telling Anna it was the beginning of the end for Sami. Meanwhile, Rafe found Sami, who was daydreaming about the latest ransom note. He asked what was wrong. Sami said she thought she could handle watching the video of Sydney, but was wrong. EJ called and told Sami the ransom note was a hoax. Sydney was dead. Sami hung up, devastated. Anna couldn't believe EJ's cruelty. EJ said Sami was paying for what she did to him. He was going to take Johnny and Sydney and leave. He knew Sami would end up alone, because Rafe would be furious when he learned she lied about the ransom note. Rafe asked Sami what just happened. She was despondent. Rafe called Will and told him to meet them at the pub. There, Rafe filled Will in on the mysterious call from EJ that upset Sami. While Will went to his mom's side, Rafe phoned EJ and asked what he said to Sami. EJ said he was busy and hung up. EJ gave Anna the suitcase full of cash. Anna handed him Sydney, noting he could still make things right and pointing out he loved Sami. EJ denied it. At the pub, Sami thought about Sydney. "I just don't know how to go on without her," she bemoaned. "You don't have to," announced EJ, who walked in toting Sydney.
