DAYS Week of June 8, 2009
Monday
Philip and Stephanie exchanged "I love you's." Then, the pair decided to get some sleep. They'd have a long day tomorrow giving their statements to the cops. Steph, however, couldn't sleep and just stared at the ceiling.
Will worried about Grace outside the pub, then filled Caroline in on his little sister's situation. He explained that Daniel wanted the family to come to the hospital and that he felt guilty about not wanting his mom to adopt Grace. Inside, Lucas told Chloe about the tyke. He worried that Sami might not be able to get through it, if Grace didn't make it. Chloe told Lucas that Nicole was at the hospital, which didn't sit well with him. Chloe explained that Nicole had a baby the same age as Sami and knew what she was going through. Chloe phoned Nicole for an update on the baby. Nicole gave her the bad news: Grace has meningitis. Chloe informed Lucas, and the twosome headed to the hospital.
Daniel received the test results on Grace, while Rafe and Sami were in the chapel praying for a miracle. A nurse urged Mia to hold Grace and talk to her. When she left, Mia asked why Nicole told the nurse she was Grace's mother. Nicole said Grace needed someone to comfort her. Mia picked up Grace and didn't want to let her go. Daniel summoned Rafe and Sami and told them they needed to be with Grace. The antibiotics they gave her weren't working. Sami and Rafe headed to Grace's room. A nurse informed Sami that only the baby's mother was allowed there. Later, Mia sobbed to Nicole about giving up her own little girl. Daniel set the nurse straight about Grace's mother. Then, he told Sami and Rafe the staff had done everything they could to help Grace. Sami insisted Grace was a fighter. In the hall, Daniel told Rafe that Sami needed to know Grace might not make it.
Will arrived and found Mia. He explained he was off gathering his family. Nicole went to the chapel and talked aloud to God about switching Grace and Sydney at birth. "Please, let Gracie live. Please," she cried. Rafe returned to Grace's room and told Sami they needed to "be prepared." Sami insisted her baby wasn't giving up and neither was she. If Rafe didn't have any faith in that, he could get out. Roman and Caroline arrived, and Rafe filled them in on the dire situation. Roman entered Grace's room and consoled a sobbing Sami. Chloe found Nicole, who said she believed the doctors were out of options for Grace. Sami told Roman she needed Rafe and didn't mean it when she told him to get out. "I'm right here," responded Rafe, who overheard. Sami cried, realizing Grace wasn't going to make it. Mia encouraged Will to go hold his baby sister. Will entered Grace's room, and Sami passed her to him. "She needs you, Will," whispered Sami. "She needs her big brother."
Stefano was on the phone threatening someone to make sure Owen didn't implicate EJ in Steph's kidnapping. EJ walked in with Sydney, and the two men discussed what was happening to Grace. Stefano flashed back to his conversation with Nicole; then, told EJ to treasure every moment with Sydney. Stefano conceded that no one should have to face what poor Sami was facing tonight. EJ kept wondering what he would do if that were his baby. Later, Stefano was yelling on the phone to someone about the Owen situation. EJ walked in and Stefano changed the subject to his diet and exercise program. EJ saw right through the charade, noting he knew Stefano was talking to one of his operatives. "I'll take care of business. You take care of your family," barked Stefano. EJ demanded to know what Stefano was planning for Owen. Stefano wasn't talking and prepared to head upstairs to bed. "Stop worrying. I'm back," noted Stefano. "That's what I'm worried about," countered EJ.
Tuesday
Brady arrived at the Kiriakis mansion having been summoned by Henderson. Victor asked if his grandson could look past the way he treated him and forgive him. "Hell no," snapped Brady, insisting there was no way Victor could apologize for what he'd done. Namely, disowning Brady. Victor said the problem was Brady went to the police, when he specifically told him not to get them involved. "I was doing what I thought was right," maintained Brady. Victor insisted he could have handled the situation. Brady noted that if the police hadn't been brought in, Owen would still have Steph and he and Melanie might have died in that mausoleum. "Which brings me to my main point, I want to thank you," said Victor, insisting he was sorry for what he'd done. He asked Brady to come home. Brady and Victor shook hands and made peace.
After Will held Grace in his arms, he went into the hall and joined Mia. Caroline told Sami she called Father Matt. Sami was upset, unwilling to accept what was happening to her little girl. Lucas was stunned by Nicole's concern over Grace. Soon, Dr. Matt entered Grace's room and administered her last rites. Rafe recalled his first time meeting Grace. "Little Grace, you brought us so much love and so much happiness," whispered Sami. Suddenly, Grace's mon itors went off. Rafe asked if he should get a doctor. Sami shook her head no. Daniel entered the room, turned off Grace's machines, and said he was sorry. He asked if Sami wanted him to send the family in, but she didn't. Daniel walked into the hall an announced Grace had passed away. Roman consoled Caroline, while Will comforted Mia. Inside, Sami cried and went on about Grace being in heaven. Lucas told Will his mother was going to need him to lean on. Will headed off to Mia, while Lucas realized Chloe was missing. Chloe was with Daniel, trying to comfort him over the loss of his young patient. Daniel told Chloe to go be with her husband. Nicole was beside herself as she remembered holding Grace, after she was born. Will and Mia discussed Grace. "I know I wasn't related to her or anything, but I loved her so much," confessed Mia. Will urged Mia to go home and sleep, but she didn't want to leave him alone.
Later, back at her apartment, Sami blamed herself for Grace's death, insisting she should have told EJ about his daughter. Everything would have been different if she'd been paying attention to her daughter instead of keeping secrets. Rafe insisted it wasn't Sami's fault. Grace died of meningitis. Sami said she had to tell Allie and Johnny about their baby sister's death right away and asked Rafe for a favor.
At the DiMera mansion, Lexie lectured EJ about Stefano having left the hos pital. EJ assured their father was adhering to his diet and doing his diabetic testing. The discussion turned to Grace. Lexie said everyone was praying for a miracle and noted how upset Nicole was. After Lexie left, EJ doted on Sydney, promising her mother would be home soon. Nicole returned and told EJ that Grace had died. "Poor Samantha," sighed EJ, as he and Nicole commiserated about Grace. The doorbell rang and it was Rafe. He wanted to pick up Johnny to bring him to Sami. "You're not taking my son anywhere," retorted EJ. Nicole intervened and got EJ to reconsider. EJ left to get Johnny ready to go.
Later, Sami, Rafe, Will and Mia were back at Sami's apartment with Allie and Johnny. Mia left to go take her finals. Rafe went off and ran into Arianna. He told her that Grace died, and they embraced. Meanwhile, back at the DiMera mansion, Nicole thanked EJ for letting Rafe take Johnny to Sami. EJ got a call and had to leave. Nicole sat alone, when Stefano suddenly appeared and tapped her on the shoulder. "I think we should finish our little conversation," he announced.
Wednesday
Daniel snuck up behind Chloe, and they started kissing. "This is wrong," moaned Chloe, who suddenly woke up and realized she was alone. Lucas entered and asked if his wife had a bad dream. Then, he announced that they shouldn't have secrets between one another and delivered a bombshell: Sami didn't lose her baby after she got out of the witness protection program. "So Grace was EJ's baby?" asked Chloe, furious that Lucas kept this from her. Lucas swore he only found out the truth a few weeks ago. Chloe was furious.
Kate found Daniel napping in the doctor's lounge. She swiped a prescription pad from under his hand and tore off a page, as she remembered back to practicing his signature. Daniel woke up and asked what Kate was doing there. Kate said she came to talk to him, but decided not to disturb him. Daniel didn't buy it and asked for the truth. Kate insisted she'd gotten what she came for.
Stefano told Nicole he wanted to finish their conversation about Sydney. He realized that if Nicole hadn't switched babies, they'd be preparing for Sydney's funeral. "There's nothing I won't do to keep this family together," vowed Nicole. Stefano said Nicole had better pray EJ and Sami never find out about the baby switch. He seemed grateful to Nicole, knowing that EJ would be involved in a bitter custody battle for Sydney, if she hadn't done what she did. "You did the right thing," said Stefano, noting the good outweighed the bad. Stefano noted that when he brought EJ to Salem it was to seduce Sami, break her heart, and then leave. Nicole noted the flaw in his plan: EJ ended up falling in love with Sami.
Max awoke to find Chelsea next to him. He asked if she was home for good. Chelsea didn't think she was. Max responded with a kiss, but Chelsea noted he couldn't change her mind. Nonetheless, the twosome got hot and heavy. Afterwards, Max wondered if he'd changed Chelsea's mind. Nope. Chelsea asked if Max wanted to come to London with her. "If you were there with me it would be even more awesome," she smiled.
Arianna offered Rafe her condolences about Grace; then, headed off. She ended up walking smack into Brady and her purse went flying. Arianna mentioned Rafe and everything Sami was going through. "Did she have another crisis?" wondered Brady. "You don't know?" asked Arianna. Later, at the pub, Arianna filled Brady in on Grace succumbing to bacterial meningitis and admitted she felt badly for Sami. Yet, she knew there was something off about Sami and Rafe's relationship. She didn't get why Rafe wanted to adopt Grace without marrying Sami first.
Rafe stopped by the hospital to start making arrangements for Grace's funeral, noting he was her father. A nurse said his name wasn't on the records. Nicole arrived and confirmed Rafe was Grace's father. When the nurse left to fetch some papers, Rafe asked why Nicole did that. Nicole said she knew Rafe was Grace's father in his heart. Rafe wondered why Nicole looked so upset, when she had no connection to Grace.
Sami and Will read a story to Johnny and Allie to help them understand Grace's death. Sami sobbed and explained Grace wouldn't be able to be with them any more. Will phoned Mia to see if she wanted to meet at the Java Café. Then, he left with the twins. Rafe called and asked Sami if she wanted him to come over. Sami didn't. Later, she had a dream of Grace crying, but awoke to realize she was gone. There was a knock at the door and it was EJ. The twosome chatted about Johnny and Allie's adopted sister. "She was more than that," announced Sami, finally revealing that Grace was her and EJ's daughter. EJ was furious Sami lied to him. Sami insisted she had to, because he is a DiMera. Sami noted that she came to tell EJ the truth about Grace the day the mayor was killed, but then she learned Nicole was pregnant too and Nicole started lauding it over her. EJ yelled at Sami to shut up about Nicole. She had not betrayed him, like Sami did.
Thursday
Daniel asked Kate why she was in the doctors' lounge. Kate said she wanted to offer her sympathy over Grace's death. Then, she went on about despising him on one level, but on the other admiring him for saving her life and giving up Chloe. Kate wanted them to start over and asked Daniel for a favor. She needed him to appear on her show for a meet the doctor segment. Daniel said he'd think about it and left. Later, Kate met with a doctor in the park and thanked him for all the favors he'd done for her. "Is there something you need?" he asked. She handed him an envelope and he handed her a bag, noting the stuff inside was toxic.
Nicole told Rafe how sorry she was about Grace. Rafe wondered why. Nicole said she cared because she was a mother and could relate to Sami's pain. The nurse returned and asked for Rafe's signature on some papers. Nicole thought back to Grace, got upset, and said she had to go. But then she hung around and went on about Grace's death and how it broke her heart.
EJ laced into Sami for keeping the truth about Grace from him. He told Sami she didn't deserve to be mother. She deserved to be in hell and rot there with Rafe. EJ realized Rafe was in on this and that he and Sami planned to raise his child together. Sami insisted this was about protecting Grace. Rafe lamented never knowing Grace and swore he would hate Sami for the rest of his life. EJ phoned the hospital and said he needed to see his daughter, Grace Brady. Rafe was at the funeral home making arrangements for Grace when EJ arrived, walked up to Rafe, and punched him. Sami arrived and ran to Rafe's side. EJ went off about Rafe hiding things from him. The funeral director came in and asked what was going on. Sami announced she was Grace's mother. EJ announced he was Grace's father. Rafe announced he was Grace's adopted father. Rafe asked the man to give them a minute alone. EJ continued ranting about the injustice against him and chastised Sami for leaving Grace with the nuns. Sami slapped him. EJ accused Sami of killing his baby.
Lucas thought Chloe was overreacting to the news about Grace being Sami and EJ's daughter. "There's another person living in our marriage," barked Chloe. "It's not like I'm having an affair," countered Lucas. Chloe said she needed to be alone and took off. She wandered outside and found scrubs with Daniel's ID on them. Suddenly, a half-naked Daniel appeared behind her, noting he was in the lake. He asked if something was bothering Chloe. She told him about her problems with Lucas: she's, of course, keeping her affair with Daniel from him, and she just found out he was keeping thi ngs from her, too. If they're both hiding things, what did that say about their marriage? Daniel wondered why Chloe was ready to throw in the towel on her marriage if she was so committed to Lucas. He asked if Chloe loved Lucas. Chloe said she did, but she loved Daniel more.
Max served Chelsea breakfast in bed to celebrate her coming home. Chelsea reiterated that she had to go back to London and wanted Max to come with her. "So what's your answer, yes or no?" Max got into bed with some papers. Chelsea grabbed them and saw he got into medical school with a scholarship. "I never should have asked you to leave Salem. It was completely selfish," announced Chelsea. Max said it wasn't, and he Chelsea professed their love for each other and started smooching. Afterwards, the pair talked about how happy they were. Max announced he wanted to go to London, too. Chelsea asked if he was sure. He was.
Kate arrived at the Kiriakis mansion, and Lucas asked what she was carrying. Kate noted it was a vial of liquid vitamins. "You're lying to me right now," said Lucas, who wanted to know what Kate was hiding.
Nicole held Sydney and went on about how she did the right thing switching her with Grace. Then, she ordered flowers for Grace's funeral. Stefano emerged and said he'd send his own. He noted how happy he was that Sydney was healthy and thriving. If Nicole hadn't pulled that baby switch, they'd be mourning right now, and Stefano couldn't bear to lose another child.
Friday
Chloe told Daniel she loved Lucas, but loved him more. Daniel said it was too late for the two of them. He was keeping his promise to stay away from Chloe, even though she was all he thought about. Daniel swore he was pushing Chloe away because he loved her He reminded Chloe about Lucas almost drinking himself to death a few months ago. Daniel doubted Chloe could take it if that ever happened again. He ordered Chloe to go back to Lucas and Allie and devote herself to them. "If you can't do it for Lucas... my God, you do it for me," urged Daniel.
Nicole told Stefano she was meant to be Sydney's mom and how much it meant to her that he was on her side. Stefano said he wasn't keeping the secret for her benefit. He hated deceiving EJ, but it had to be done. Nicole worried that EJ might go to prison for what he'd done to avenge Tony's death. Then, Sydney would grow up without a father. Stefano promised Owen would not say a word to incriminate EJ. The bell rang. Nicole answered the door to find Victor. When Stefano joined her, Victor said he was there to extend an olive branch. Then, he commented on what a beautiful baby Sydney was and what a shame it would be if she got caught in a war between families. Nicole wondered if Victor was threatening her daughter. Stefano and Victor broached the subject of peace. Victor said he would return with an offer and left. Nicole asked if Stefano thought Victor really mean that.
EJ went off on Sami about abandoning their daughter and leaving her with the nuns. Sami flipped out and started slapping him. EJ flipped out and accused Sami of killing his baby. Rafe broke things up and defended Sami. EJ asked how Sami was going to live with herself after what happened to Grace. Rafe stepped in and told EJ that Sami didn't want Grace raised by a murderer, reminding him of the hit he put out on Philip. He also pointed out that none of this fighting would bring Grace back. EJ lamented not getting the chance to hold Grace's hand or say goodbye. Sami asked if EJ wanted a say in Grace's funeral arrangements. "You killed her. You bury her," he retorted. Sami and Rafe left. When the mortician returned, EJ said he had a request. The duo walked into the morgue. EJ spent a moment with Grace's body, professing his love to his baby girl.
Lucas grabbed the vial of Kate's "liquid vitamins" and asked what she was hiding. Kate recalled getting the toxic drug from her doctor pal. She took the vial back and said it was actually medicine for a woman's problem. Lucas backed off. They started talking about Grace; then, Lucas revealed he'd had a fight with Chloe over a secret he'd kept about the baby. Kate put two and two together and re alized Grace really was Sami's child. Lucas revealed EJ was the father. Kate started going off about Sami. Lucas turned the conversation back to Chloe. Kate said she wanted to give Chloe another chance, since she meant so much to Lucas. Chloe arrived, and Lucas apologized and begged her for forgiveness. Chloe accepted and they embraced. Lucas vowed there would be no more secrets between them.
Kate arrived at the hospital and found Will. Kate offered her condolences about Grace. Will admitted he was jealous when Sami first adopted her. Then, he broke down and Kate comforted him. Kate saw Daniel walk by and asked if he would host the medical segment of her show. Daniel said no.
Sami and Rafe returned to her apartment and discussed the situation with EJ. Sami sat at her desk to work on Grace's eulogy. Then she read it to Rafe and showed him the dress Grace would be buried in. Rafe asked when Sami was going to tell Will the truth about his sister. Will entered on cue. Sami announced she had to talk to him about something. Rafe left mother and son alone. Sami revealed that Grace was really her baby. She gave birth to her. Will was stunned.
