DAYS Week of June 22, 2009
Monday
Mia was stunned to see Chad, who said he was back in Salem for the summer and missed her. Mia flashed back to getting hot and heavy with Chad in the back of his car. Back to the present, Mia told Chad to leave. Chad followed Mia around, insisting they talk. Evan interrupted, telling Mia he got someone to cover her shift. Chad thought that was great. They'd have time to catch up. "We're over,” announced Mia, insisting she never wanted to see him again. After Mia left, Chad talked to Evan, who gave him a job at Java Café.
EJ served Sami with a court order for custody of Johnny. "Just like you took my daughter from me. And eye for an eye,” seethed EJ. Sister Agnes arrived at the church and Father Matt started to introduce her to Nicole. Sister Agnes said she already knew Nicole. Nicole said she must have her confused with someone else. Rafe told EJ what he was doing was wrong. Will interrupted and asked EJ for permission to visit his brother. EJ granted it. Will turned to leave. Sami begged him to stop. Will barked that EJ had every right to do what he was doing, since Sami and Rafe lied to him about Grace. Rafe promised Sami they'd fight this. Sami and EJ fought. Nicole interrupted. Sami yelled this was all Nicole's fault. EJ told Sami she had one hour to bring him Johnny. Sami left, and Father Matt approached EJ. "Don't do anything you will regret," he warned. EJ accused Sami of being the one who tried to play God. Nicole approached Sami, noting she had nothing to do with EJ's court order. Later, Nicole told EJ that maybe Sami didn't tell him about Grace because she hated her. EJ left to get Johnny, as Nicole prayed and sobbed.
Kate summoned Daniel to the Kiriakis terrace via telephone. Chris arrived with a dish of appetizers for the Hearth and Home shoot. After he left, Kate slipped on gloves and poisoned the food. Daniel arrived and Kate gave him a letter, promising all the proceeds from him doing the show would go to the cancer charity of his choice. She also noted she'd put the whole situation with him and Chloe behind her and suggested they drink to "new beginnings.” Kate and Daniel clinked their glasses in a toast. When Daniel left, Kate lifted his fingerprints from his glass and put them on the bottle of poison. Meanwhile, at Maggie's house, Chloe prepared for the shoot, as Lucas and Maggie sensed her uneasiness. Maggie approached Chloe about not being over Daniel. Will phoned Lucas and said they had to talk in person. Lucas left to meet his son. Chloe ran after him and ended up running into the arriving Daniel. Lucas met Will at the pier and confronted his dad about knowing the truth about Grace. Then, he dropped the bomb about EJ taking Johnny from Sami. Lucas ra n off to support Sami. Mia found Will, who sensed something was wrong. Mia didn't want to talk about it. Back at the shoot, Chris gave Chloe and Daniel direction on how to make the show fun. Kate arrived and took charge, toting the poisoned appetizers. She cooed that they were "to die for tasty." Daniel handed Chloe one of the tainted treats.
Sami and Rafe were back at her apartment. Same announced she'd just spoken to Mickey and had no choice but to comply with EJ's court order. She had to take Johnny to EJ. Rafe promised to help her fight this. Rafe left, and Sami packed up Johnny's things. Lucas arrived and explained he knew what was going on. He promised to help Sami fight this. Later, Sami arrived at the DiMera mansion with Johnny. EJ was icy cold, telling her to shut the door on her way out.
Nicole paid a visit to Grace's grave, remembering how she helped deliver her a few short months ago. She lamented switching Grace with Sydney. Nicole wondered if that caused Grace's death or it was just her time to pass away. Nicole asked God to forgive her as she broke down and sobbed, "Oh Grace. I would do anything to bring you back." A confused Rafe looked on.
Tuesday
Kate flashed back to poisoning the tray of appetizers at the Hearth and Home shoot. Chloe flashed back to romping with Daniel. Suddenly, the tray went flying. Lucas returned as the mess was being cleaned up. Chris emerged with a new tray of treats. "No. They won't work," snapped Kate, realizing they were poison free. Alone, Kate pulled out her vial and tainted the deviled eggs. Chloe went to Daniel's dressing room and apologized for what happened. Daniel realized Chloe was nervous. "You don't think we can be together without something happening, do you?" he asked. Chloe admitted she didn't. The pair discussed doing the show, because of the large sum of money being donated to the cancer fund. Kate asked Chris to guard the plate of appetizers; then, went off to check on Daniel and Chloe. Lucas returned and took over the plate watch. Upstairs, Chloe helped Daniel put on a clean shirt, when he noticed her dress zipper was unzipped. Daniel stepped behind Chloe to zip it up, as Kate watched and seethed through the ajar door. Lucas started getting hungry and zoned in on the deviled eggs. "They won't miss just one," he noted.
Rafe found Nicole at Grace's grave and asked what she was doing there. Nicole said she was paying her respects. Rafe was suspicious, since she had no real connection to Grace. Nicole noted Grace was her daughter's sister and would always have a place in her heart. She felt sorry for Grace and Sami. First, Sami had to bury a child. Now she faced losing Johnny. Rafe asked Nicole to talk to EJ about the injunction. Arianna interrupted the twosome. After Nicole left, Rafe went on about baby Grace. He realized the best way to honor her memory was to help Sami. Later, Rafe walked through the cemetery and knelt at another grave: Emily Hudson.
Sami brought Johnny to the DiMera mansion and told EJ she wasn't leaving until they got things straight. After Harold took Johnny off, Sami laced into EJ about being a sociopath and unfit parent. EJ reminded Sami she'd kept Grace from him. Then, he went off on Sami for being duplicitous and shacking up with Rafe. Sami defended Rafe, noting he was a good father to Grace and would be a good dad to Johnny. "I'll kill him before that happens," swore EJ. Sami vowed not to be cut out of her son's life and reminded EJ how Johnny wouldn't go to sleep without kissing her picture, when she was in the witness protection program. She begged EJ to try to understand why she kept Grace a secret. She did it to protect Grace. EJ wasn't in a forgiving mood. Any feelings he had for Sami were gone. Sami wondered what EJ would do when Johnny called out for her. Harold returned with Johnny, and EJ told his son to say goodbye to his mommy. Sami left, but vowed to f ight for Johnny. Nicole arrived, and EJ shared the details of his spat with Sami. Nicole said it was cruel never letting Johnny see Sami again. She begged EJ to forgive Sami for Johnny's sake. EJ said this was none of Nicole's business. Nicole insisted it was and warned EJ not to underestimate Sami.
Stephanie chatted on the phone with Abby about her upcoming wedding to Philip. Henderson arrived and handed her a letter from her mother. Philip walked out, and Steph lamented how much she missed her parents, who are off running a clinic in a Third World country, and brother Joe. Philip wanted to help the needy facility. Later, he returned noting his accountant was sending Kayla's medical team financial aid. Steph rewarded Philip with a kiss. Philip suggested visiting Steph's family and went off to call someone to see if the Kiriakis jet was cleared to travel there. Sadly, it wasn't. Suddenly, Sami stormed onto the terrace. "I want to destroy EJ DiMera once and for all," she barked, explaining that EJ took Johnny from her. Steph and Philip couldn't believe it. Nevertheless, Philip was reluctant to get involved. "I lost my daughter. Please don't let me lose another child," begged Sami.
Wednesday
Kate watched through the door as Daniel zipped up Chloe's dress. Downstairs, Lucas picked up a poisoned deviled egg and prepared to eat it. Kate walked into the kitchen and pushed it out of his hand. Lucas flipped and asked if the eggs "were poisoned." Kate made up a lame excuse about the egg being under the lights too long. Kate announced the shoot was over and apologized for taking up Daniel's time. Later, Daniel met Kate at the Java Café. Kate admitted she was still hurt that Daniel and Chloe betrayed Lucas. Daniel swore that was over. Kate suggested Daniel was still in love with Chloe. Daniel said doing the show with Chloe was a mistake. Kate told Daniel he had to do it. She already promoted the show. Plus, there was the big donation to that cancer charity. Alone, Kate revealed she'd secretly taped their conversation.
Lucas and Chloe arrived at the pub and discussed the shoot and Kate's bizarre behavior. Chloe blamed herself for screwing things up. Lucas accused his mother of going postal. Chloe begged Lucas to get along with Kate. Later, Lucas, Chloe and Allie arrived at their new home. Lucas picked up Chloe to carry her over the threshold, as she imagined being in Daniel's arms.
Rafe approached Will to talk about Sami. Will wasn't receptive. Rafe suggested talking about Johnny, who was being raised by a bunch of murderers. "I think Johnny's better off with them than with my mom," countered Will. Rafe was stunned, but understand how mad Will is. He pleaded with Will to let go of his anger. Sami couldn't take it right now. "Just tell her you love her," begged Rafe.
Stefano and Nicole discussed Grace's funeral. Stefano lamented that EJ was grieving over her, when she wasn't even his child. However, he was glad EJ had custody of Johnny and wouldn't have to deal with Sami anymore. Nicole didn't agree, noting it was just pouring salt in Sami's wound. Stefano asked where EJ and Johnny were. Nicole explained EJ took Johnny to day camp and was going to explain the custody arrangements to him. Nicole mentioned how awkward it was going to be, since Allie went there too and Sami would be picking her up. Stefano accused Nicole of developing a conscience and said she shouldn't feel sorry for Sami. Nicole noted that taking Johnny away from Sami could blow up in EJ's face. "She could do something dangerous," warned Nicole. Stefano pointed out there was a lesson to be learned. Sami defied EJ's family and was now suffering the consequences. After Stefano left, Nicole told Sydney she was going to do something she never did: the right thing.
Sami begged Philip and Stephanie to call the police and expose EJ for the lying criminal he is. Philip said they couldn't and left to take a call. Sami pressed Steph to help her. Steph sympathized with Sami's plight, but insisted there was nothing she could do to help. Sami suggested Steph lie and say she saw EJ paying off Owen. "I can't," reiterated Steph. Philip returned and scolded Sami for pushing Steph after everything she'd been through. Sami scolded Philip for letting Steph get caught between him and EJ. Later, Philip told Steph that Sami was gone and things would be fine. He suggested going for a swim and headed off to change. Steph popped a few pills. Philip ended up having to work, so Steph went for a swim alone. Steph emerged from the pool, when she suddenly collapsed to the ground.
Sami returned home to find Rafe and shared her idea about kidnapping Johnny. Rafe tried to talk her out of it. She'd be playing right into EJ's hands and could lose custody of Johnny permanently. Sami cried about Steph not wanting to testify against EJ. "Everybody is scared of the DiMeras." she wailed. Rafe wasn't and vowed to help Sami get Johnny back. Sami got a call from Nicole, noting she had something to say to her.
Thursday
Brady ran into Nicole. She explained EJ was taking Johnny away from Sami, but that she was going to help her see her son. Brady wondered if Nicole was still worried about Mia revealing the truth about Sydney. Nicole wasn’t. Brady said he wasn't going to lecture her about telling the truth. He just wanted her to be happy.
Rafe found Mia at St. Luke's. Mia said she was thinking about Grace. Rafe went off, and Father Matt arrived. He remembered Mia from Grace's funeral and for stopping Nicole's wedding. Mia told the priest Rafe was looking for him. Then, she walked outside and ran into Brady, who was there for a meeting. They discussed Grace and Sydney. Rafe returned and was suspicious of the pair being together. Mia said she and Brady met at a 12-step meeting, noting she was a recovering addict. Rafe thought they were trying to hide something. Father Matt came back, and Mia left. Rafe asked if Father Matt knew Mia. The priest said he only knew what Mia did: interrupt the DiMera wedding.
Stephanie collapsed on the Kiriakis terrace. Daniel found her and phoned the paramedics. He noticed the pill bottle nearby. Steph woke up at the hospital. Daniel and Lexie explained what happened. Daniel confronted Steph about the pills; namely, that she was taking twice the prescribed dose, which is why she fell. Steph insisted she was fine and didn't want any more pills. Nor did she want to tell Philip about what happened.
Victor approached Philip, who was finishing up a deal on the docks. They talked business. Philip brought up Stephanie and how he’d offered her a PR job at Titan. Bo interrupted. The trio went back and forth about working inside and outside the law. Philip got a call from Lexie telling him about Steph. He raced to Steph’s bedside. Steph said she was fine. She just slipped and hit her head. Daniel backed up her story.
Melanie asked Nathan if he wanted to hang out later. He agreed; then, went off to shower. Maggie walked in and asked Melanie to help get the Horton cabin ready for summer. Melanie whined, until Maggie mentioned she’d be helping her and Nathan. Melanie quickly changed her mind.
Bo, Hope and Ciara left the pub, as Arianna ran after them with Tommy Bear. Bo had a vision about finding the bear in the woods. Hope and Ciara arrived at Maggie’s house. When Melanie’s name came up, Hope noted she was the one who got Nick sent to prison. Later, Maggie showed Hope a newspaper, surprised by what they printed.
At the pub Melanie told Arianna things were looking up. “What’s his name?” asked Arianna. Nathan arrived, and Melanie
went on about having to clean the Horton cabin. Nathan told Melanie he wasn’t free tonight and split. M elanie was upset. Nathan returned to Maggie's. Later, Melanie asked him why he’d backed off. He mentioned Nick, and Melanie erupted. She brought up what Nick did to her, then, ran off.
Nicole asked Arianna about her relationship with Brady. She told her to be nice to him, because he’d been burned. Nicole said if the right woman came along, she could get Brady to love again. Brady walked in and wasn’t pleased. Nicole left. Brady told Arianna to ignore what Nicole said. Outside, Nicole met with Mia, who said she knew Nicole would be a good mom to Sydney.
Maggie and Hope arrived at the hospital. They talked to Lexie about the donation Hope made for kids with autism. Hope noted it was supposed to be an anonymous donation and showed Lexie the newspaper. Hope headed off to meet Bo at the cemetery to visit Zack’s grave. After Hope and Ciara left, Bo had a vision of Zack handing him Tommy Bear. “If she loses it, something bad will happen,” he warned. Meanwhile, A mystery man circled Hope’s picture in the newspaper.
Maggie asked Melanie to help her at the hospital since her volunteers hadn’t shown up. Melanie saw Philip leaving with Steph and noticed how jumpy Steph was. Melanie went into Steph’s room and found her bottle of pills. She wondered if things weren’t working out between Steph and Philip. Back at the Kiriakis mansion, Steph overheard Victor tell Philip that she didn’t need to know everything the family business.
Friday
Maggie interrupted Nathan, who spied Melanie with Stephanie's pills, in the kitchen. Melanie left, and Nathan asked why Maggie let Melanie live there, considering what she did to Nick. Maggie warned Nathan not to jump to wrong conclusions. Then, she filled him on Nick's downhill spiral — popping pills, drinking, stalking Melanie... Maggie noted that Nick got a light sentence because Melanie spoke up for him. She explained that Melanie was kinder than most people thought. Nathan felt badly about misjudging Melanie. Maggie suggested he apologize to her.
Steph had a dream about finding Philip on the terrace with blood on his hands. Philip woke up and asked what was wrong.Philip offered to cancel a breakfast appointment with Lucas. Steph insisted she was fine, but told Philip she'd overheard his and Victor's chat about keeping business from her. Philip pooh-poohed it and left. Melanie arrived and told Steph she got into nursing school. She asked if Steph was having any more headaches and held up her bottle of pills. She thought Steph should have them just in case. Steph took them, but revealed that Philip didn't know about the pills. She didn't want to dump that on him. Melanie said she had Steph's back. Nathan bumped into Melanie and apologized for being hard on her, earlier. Then, he questioned her about the pills she was taking. Melanie said they belonged to a friend, who didn't want her fiancé to know about them. She wondered if she should tell him the truth.
While Kate edited her secret recording of Daniel to say, "I love Chloe," Daniel went for a jog. As fate would have it, he ran right into Chloe, as Lucas tagged behind carrying lots of bags. Chloe explained they'd been shopping for their new house. Lucas invited Daniel to check it out. Daniel claimed to be too busy. Lucas left. Chloe got a call from Kate, who wanted to meet at the Java Café to discuss the next Hearth and Home show. Chloe said she couldn't make it. Daniel congratulated her on standing up to Kate. Chloe lamented Kate and Victor's obnoxiousness toward her. Daniel was supportive, and Chloe thanked him.
Lucas met Philip at the pub. Philip asked Lucas to be his best man. Lucas refused, because of Victor, noting he called Chloe The Village Slut the last time they got together. The conversation turned to Steph and Philip's concern for her. Lucas suggested she see someone about post traumatic stress syndrome.
Maggie and Kate discussed housewarming gifts for Lucas and Chloe. at the hospital. Daniel interrupted and Kate asked what he was getting them. Kate got a call and left. Maggie noted how hard this must be on Daniel. Later, a nurse suggested Daniel get a fruit basket for Lucas and C hloe. Kate overheard and commented on how easy Daniel was making this for her.
Rafe arrived at the DiMera mansion and apologized to Nicole for asking all those questions at the cemetery. Nicole thought he was there for something more. Rafe mentioned running into someone Nicole knew: Mia. Nicole explained she'd been working with troubled teens. Rafe noted Mia was a drug addict. Nicole swore she was recovering. Rafe wasn't sure Mia was who she claimed to be. He asked for the number of the teen center to get information. Nicole refused, noting it was confidential. Rafe finally ‘fessed up about why he was really there. He wanted to talk about the custody hearing. What Nicole said about Sami in court would be pivotal. Nicole didn't want to discuss it. Rafe left, telling Nicole to keep Sydney safe. Nicole fretted about the nosy Rafe.
Chloe found Steph on the Kiriakis terrace. Steph flipped when Chloe pressed her on how she was feeling. Chloe suggested Steph talk to someone who could help. Steph went to see Father Matt and told him she needed help. Chloe went to meet Lucas, bearing a gift: an album his father gave him. Lucas was touched. Chloe wanted Lucas to have it, so he could add pictures of any kids that might have. Meanwhile, Melanie found Philip at the pub and said she had to talk to him about something.
