DAYS Week of July 21, 2008

Monday

Gruff Roman pretended to warn Lucas (who looked fetching in his orange jumpsuit and cuffs) about his transfer to maximum security, and reiterated their deal. Apologetic Chloe arrived and Lucas assured her she had nothing to be sorry for. He didn't regret their elevator romp. When she tearfully reached for his hand, she wasn't allowed to. Lucas warned her about Sami, and she said she could handle both Sami and Philip. In Roman's office, Marlena asked him about Lucas' transfer and Roman told her Lucas is a "tough kid" who could handle it. That tabled, Marlena asked him for help with John's memory disk. Wary Roman had misgivings but agreed to help. Marlena assured him she's doing okay. Meanwhile, Sami sniped at Chloe at the pub and Chloe sniped back about Lucas' arrest being Sami's fault. Back at the Salem PD, Roman asked Marlena for details about the disk and suggested it was time to let John go. Marlena refused.

Sami cried to Marlena about Lucas' transfer. Doc offered to talk to Roman and then they moved to EJ getting a court order preventing Sami from taking Johnny anywhere. Blasé John feigned ignorance, insisting EJ did nothing wrong. At the pub, Ava made an appointment to see an apartment, but the realtor hung up once they heard her last name. Since she couldn't move out, Sami needed to sublet her apartment. Naturally, John suggested Ava. Sami was horrified but caved after John urged her not to blame Ava for his problems with Marlena. Sami played apartment tour guide to the mafia princess, who called John to praise the place and invite him over. When the housing gig fell through, Ava commiserated with John up on the roof. She asked him if she could shack up with him and he said no, since he was still "legally married to Blondie." However, he didn't mind fooling around while still married... They played tonsil hockey, but John still wasn't willing to play house. When Ava got huffy, he wooed her with kisses. It wasn't long before clothes began flying off.

At Chez Johnson, Caroline worried about baby Joe needing an "apnea monitor,"
and Maggie appeared with groceries and supplies. Then, Steve, Kayla, and the wee man of the hour arrived home. A nurse gave Steve and a Kayla the rundown of how to use the apnea monitor and care for their preemie. Kayla thanked Maggie and Caroline for their help and shooed them off, but not before confiding her fears to her mother. "You're a grown woman, and I still worry," Caroline told her. "It's natural." After her mom's reassuring words, Kayla felt much better. She told Steve to get a nap before his shift with the baby. Then Sami came by to tell them Ava was moving in. When Kayla saw Ava, the temperature went arctic. Kayla told Ava to find new digs and Sami apologized...but Kayla shut the door in her face. Kayla flashed back on Steve and Ava's shenanigans and unloading on Steve about having to deal with the fallout — including Joe's early birth. Steve assured Sweetness that "without you, without our family, my life would've meant nothing," and apologized for everything.

Tuesday

Dr. Daniel and Chelsea flirted at the pub as he praised her new dig as pediatric occupational therapy assistant (say that five times fast). Chelsea displayed her never before known love for kids and was all wistful about her fruitless womb. She noted she could adopt if they ever got married, however. When she wondered about Bo and Victor's health, Daniel noted Bo was acting a bit strange but fine and that Victor was "iffy." He said Victor kept being agitated by Philip and Bo. Chelsea promised she'd talk to Bo and invited Dr. Dan to dinner. Too bad they missed dinner! Caroline offered to heat up some plates. The whole thing was awkward as hell, especially when the doctor lectured Bo about stressing Victor and himself out. Bo laughed off Daniel's warnings. Daniel then decreed they were locking down Victor's room: No visitors. Chelsea raved about her new job and Daniel revealed he had to go apartment hunting. Somehow, he ended up on the building's roof with Kate. They danced around their mystery history while Chelsea and Caroline tried to suss out Bo's weird 'tude and talked about her relationship with Daniel. Kate and Daniel swore to keep their past a secret from Chelsea as Bo shared his distrust with his mom.

Abe noted there was something fishy about Morgan's package from Paul as, over at Chez Kiriakis, Philip picked at his food. Kate assured him things would be fine. Yeah, because Bo had risked his career and covered for him. Phil wasn't thrilled. Across town, Ciara wanted ice cream but Bo was picking at his food (must run in the family). As Caroline wondered, Bo claimed it was because of Victor's health. He didn't want to bury his biological dad so soon after Shawn. Caroline warned her darling to not bottle up his feelings. As Abe kept burning the midnight oil, Lexie brought over some notes on Theo's treatment — Theo's very expensive treatment. Abe promised they'd work things out. Philip told Kate she had no idea what he was capable of. Kate knew he wasn't capable of murder. Broody Phil told her he'd done things she wouldn't be proud of. "You're my son, and you're in my heart, and you have my loyalty," she assured. Tortured Philip acknowledged the shadiness of the Roberts-Kiriakis clan but noted that Bo was a different story. He couldn't live with himself if Bo suffered because of him. Kate insisted no one would find out what (if anything) Philip had done. The loyal mom prickled when Morgan arrived and hugged her son but made herself scarce. Morgan was still worried about her AWOL dad. As Abe got a break in the case, he called Morgan to come to the station. Naturally, she asked Philip to go with her. Honest Abe told Morgan they'd found Paul's jacket and ID on a body pulled from the river.

The Indiana Jones-style Map o' Doom showed Max and Steph's train in France.
Then, viewers saw naked Max and Steph ON the train. Max wandered off to angst and dress and Stephanie awoke to a strange Frenchman sitting on her bed. She yelled for Max, flipping out and reaching for some French mace. The mystery French dude made himself scarce. When Max returned with breakfast, Stephanie told him she'd stopped a pickpocket. (Uh, does DAYS know there's only a 6-hour time difference between the US and France?) Max and Stephanie were all cute and flirty and glad to be sharing this adventure.

Wednesday

Kate was shocked when Roman said he had evidence that Paul's disappearance was foul play. Roman had to run, and when he left Tony asked her what she was hiding. Kate told him he was reading into her emotions too much, but she was concerned because Philip was involved with Morgan. Later, Anna showed up looking for Tony but Kate told him he'd left. Anna tried being conversational with Kate, but Kate remained cold. Anna asked her if she could be civil for a few minutes, and Kate agreed and invited Anna to sit down. Anna gushed about becoming a new grandmother, and hoped she'd be a better grandmother than she was as a mother. Kate admitted she hadn't been the best mother, either.

When Abe Told Morgan he'd found her dad's jacket in the river, her eyes filled with tears at the idea that her dad might be dead. Abe said he couldn't rule anything out. While Morgan cried, Philip watched from outside the office. Philip later told her not to work herself up until they got to the bottom of things. He added that he knew Paul loved her very much. Morgan overheard Roman and Abe planning to search the river for Paul's body, and she asked them why they'd given up on finding him alive. Roman said they hadn't given up, but they still wanted to search the river to be sure.

Meanwhile, Hope asked Bo what he was hiding about the case. Bo said he was upset because John was the prime suspect in a possible homicide case. Hope asked Bo to go over the possibilities with her, but Bo said he didn't want to talk about it. Hope reminded him that she was on the case as well, but Bo told her he wanted to work it alone. Hope was angry that Bo wanted to shut her out of the case. He told her he had a very good reason for doing so.

At the mansion, John let Ava and EJ meet privately about her case. EJ predicted Ava's case would be really tough, because the DA had so much evidence against her. Ava said she looked back on most of her life as one big mistake. EJ told her she needed to be strong if they were going to beat the charges. He added that the cousin she hired to sabotage the plane planned to testify against her in court in return for immunity. Ava freaked. EJ advised she might want to think about making a deal.

When Bo went to the station, he pulled Philip aside and accused him of murdering Paul. Bo said he heard a recording of Philip threatening Paul. Philip thanked Bo for getting rid of the tape, but Bo was furious that his actions might be letting Philip get away with murder. Philip vowed he wasn't a killer, so he told Bo not to feel guilty about destroying evidence.

Thursday

The Indiana Jones-style map once again showed Max and Steph just outside Marseille and the kids discussed his fears about meeting his sister. Max's poor French was no help with the conductor. Steph translated: there was a slight delay in their journey. Daniel brought Chelsea up to the roof of his building, which he'd decked out for their date. They enjoyed the view and some kisses before talking about Daniel staying in Salem and Bo's weird behavior. Meanwhile, 30 miles or so from their destination, Max and Steph went over what they knew about Melanie's location. Steph called an old friend who mentioned a girls' boarding school just outside of town. Back on the roof, Chelsea worried about Bo and Victor. "They'll sort it out," shrugged Dr. Dan. Max made a fruitless call to the private school, looking hopeless. "You're such a guy," sighed Steph, making her own call and getting results. Chelsea and Daniel shared a romantic slow dance and kissed while Max and Stephanie whiled away the last half hour of their trip with some nookie.

Bo and Philip's meeting was interrupted by Morgan's arrival. Bo did not look pleased, and Morgan worried about the cops never finding Paul's body.
Elsewhere in the police station, Roman told Marlena no dice yet on the disk and Marlena handed over her report on Ava — which said nothing, since Ava had come to her in confidence. Marlena then told Roman about Ava upsetting Steve and Kayla. Philip asked Morgan to come home with him and Bo continued to be huffy. Marlena even noticed! She offered her services as the police shrink. Before Phil and Morgan left, Bo reminded his brother that prime suspect Philip shouldn't be hanging out with Paul's daughter. "Morgan needs me now!" whispered Philip, reiterating his innocence. Bo looked over the evidence in Paul's case and got a call from Steve inviting him out for a beer. Home at Chez Kiriakis, Philip hugged Morgan tight. Over brews at the pub, Bo shrugged off Steve's questions before begrudgingly admitting he covered up evidence for Philip.

Steve sacked out on the couch with a book titled, "Daddy Don't Drop Me," as Kayla emerged from Joe's room. They were between feedings. They talked about Ava's actions again, and how they'd caused Pop's death. "The sooner she's behind bars, the better," said Kayla. Elsewhere, John tried to assure Ava she'd be okay. They bonded over facing charges and Ava suggested they "skip bail and leave the country." John turned her down. Steve told Kayla he wished Stephanie hadn't gone off to France. Then Marlena and Roman arrived to talk about them testifying at Ava's trial. "This is not your fault," Roman told Steve, while Marlena reassured Kayla. Elsewhere, Ava asked if John wouldn't leave because of Marlena. Speaking of Doc, she told Kayla she's worried about Bo. "Blondie has no say in my decisions," John told Ava, not liking all this talk of Ava going to prison. He went to make some calls and Ava opened the door to Marlena. Back at Steve and Kayla's, Steve was certain Ava would pay for her crimes. They were cheered when Stephanie called to check in, and then Kayla gave Steve a mission involving Bo and beer! Meanwhile, Marlena told Ava the content of their sessions couldn't be used against Ava in court. John told Doc that Ava is staying with him.
Alone, Doc wondered if John had something to do with Paul's disappearance.
He lit a cigar instead of answering.

Friday

Bo told Steve about his destruction of the evidence against Philip, and Steve urged him to come clean with Hope because she'd eventually find out anyway. Meanwhile, Caroline told Kayla that Victor mustered up enough strength to say, "Tell Bo that I said thank you." Caroline told Kayla she thought it had something to do with Paul's case, and they both agreed that if Bo would tell anyone what was going on, it would be Steve. When Steve came home, they asked him what was going on with Bo. Steve pretended that everything was fine, but Kayla and Caroline didn't buy it. Kayla went to talk to Bo, and Bo told her not to worry. Kayla urged him to remember that nothing was more important than his marriage, and that he should tell Hope what was going on.

At the mansion, John was sharing a quiet evening with Ava when Marlena barged in, demanding to speak with him. She called his relationship with Ava infidelity. John old her it might be better if they split, then, because he couldn't be the John he used to be, and therefore couldn't please her. Before she left, Marlena asked Rolf to try to fix the disc that removed John's memory so she could get the real John back. Rolf was hesitant because he knew John would be furious if he heard him talking to Marlena about him, but Marlena assured him she'd protect him from getting into trouble. Later, EJ came to discuss John's case, then Morgan showed up to accuse John of killing her father. She refused to leave until she got answers.

When Marlena went to the pub, Ava told her she was sorry if their relationship bothered her. Marlena told Ava that she wasn't bothered, because her real husband was somewhere inside John, and she was determined to bring him out. Ava said the old John didn't exist anymore, but Marlena assured her he did, and when he came back he'd be through with Ava.

While Steve was home alone, Ava stopped by to apologize for all of the pain she'd caused his family. Ava said she was trying to move on with her life, so she asked Steve to testify on her behalf. Steve said he wouldn't lie for her, and that she was going to tell the truth about the crash. Ava said she only wanted Steve to be honest about how the medication she was on caused her to do things she normally wouldn't have done. Steve agreed to tell the court about the person she was before and the person she became.

Over dinner, Kate tried to get Philip to relax but Philip was angry that Kate believed he would kill Paul. Kate said it didn't matter, because there was no more evidence and he couldn't get in trouble for it. While they argued, the butler dropped off a note for Philip that was left at the front door. The note read, "I know your secret." Kate wondered who could have written the note, and Philip thought someone must be trying to get to him. Philip said he thought it was John, and that he had to put a stop to it immediately. When Philip showed up at the mansion, John asked him to take Morgan home. When Morgan refused to leave, she reached into her purse for something, but before she pulled it out one of John's bodyguards pulled out his gun and fired. When Philip jumped in front of Morgan, he was shot.
