Monday
Melanie told Steph that Philip and Melanie were in jail. In the cell, Nate and Phil faced off. Philip asked Nathan how he felt about Stephanie, but Nate noted that she didn't fit into the equation. Philip was peeved that Nate was stringing his ex along while pining for Mel. Nathan insisted he wasn't pining and said what he had with Steph was new. Steph and Mel arrived; Nate urged Stephanie to release him. She went to work on that. A cop sprung Philip, whose lawyer paid the bail. Melanie stayed with Nathan while Philip did his release papers. Philip was in a room with Steph, who asked what happened. He revealed that Nathan was trying to "hijack" his fiancée and went into detail. Stephanie was bummed out and ripped up Nathan's release papers. Once alone, Nathan urged Melanie not to marry Philip. She told Nathan she didn't have any feelings for him anymore. "Are you sure about that?" he asked. She insisted she wanted to marry Philip, who appeared to take her home.
Bo tracked down Carly at the hospital. Carly was worried that Vivian had discovered her secret. The two took their conversation to the pier, where Bo revealed that Carly's files were safe. Relieved, Carly hugged him. She asked why he wasn't with his family for New Year's Eve. He said everyone was doing other things and he wasn't comfortable chez Kiriakis, where Justin was making not-so-subtle moves on his wife. Carly noted she didn't know Bo "knew about that". "Knew about what?" he asked. He pressed her to reveal what she knew, and Carly explained that she thought Justin had feelings for Hope. Bo shrugged like he already knew. "Would it matter to you if he did?" Carly queried. It would change everything, he said. He then handed her a New Year's Eve accessory; she thanked him and took off.
In Vivian's room at the Kiriakis manse, Hope tried to open the Chinese puzzle box when she and Justin heard Vivian and Victor's voices in the hallway. They quickly kissed to cover. Victor entered and kicked them both out of the house. "That woman is my son's wife. I won't have you putting moves on her," he thundered. "It just happened," insisted Justin. Hope took the blame, and made a feeble excuse for how it happened, but Victor was hardly moved. And Vivian wanted to know why it happened in her bedroom. Hope and Justin tried to make them understand, but Victor still told Justin to beat it. He then asked Vivian for a moment alone with Hope. Hope revealed that she caught Bo and Carly kissing and that her marriage was over. Victor was furious, though was still upset with Hope for the kiss. "You betrayed my son, made a fool out of my nephew and didn't protect my granddaughter... I'm not going to let you off the hook. Not this time," he fumed. Hope cried that she and Bo needed privacy and that she needed Victor to stay out of it. He refused. She told him she and Ciara would move out in the morning, then. Vic implored her to stay. "What really irks me is that Carly is a thorn in your side," he said, adding that Dr. Manning was worse than Sami, Nicole and Chloe combined.
Vivian caught Justin on his way out and confronted him, noting she was worried about Victor's reaction to seeing Justin and Hope together. Justin shot back that Bo had moved on with Carly and told her about the kiss.... Vivian ran into Bo outside the Brady Pub. She warned Bo that Victor wouldn't be happy about Bo and Carly's kiss. She also revealed that Hope and Justin shared a passionate buss, too. He was not happy.... Hope called Justin and told him about her conversation with Victor. Justin urged her to find out Carly's secret. She then told him what happened with them earlier was wrong. He said it was a ploy to get Viv and Vic off their trail.... At the hospital, Carly flashed back to the last New Year's Eve she spent with Bo, aboard his boat.... Carly ran into Justin outside of Java and he revealed he was moving out. She asked if it was because of Hope.
Brady visited Nicole in jail. She was despondent about Sydney's disappearance, but he urged her to pull it together for her hearing the next day. She lamented that Brady was the love of her life and she should have acted on it when she had the chance. He urged her to keep up her fighting spirit. After he left, Nicole called her lawyer and said she wanted to change her plea. "What I did was wrong and I want to throw myself on the mercy of the court," she explained.
Tuesday
Bo arrived at the Kiriakis mansion to find Justin moving. Hope explained Victor kicked him out. "Something happen between the two of you?" asked Bo. "Yes, and you already knew that, didn't you?" retorted Hope. Bo explained Vivian blabbed about Hope and Justin's kiss. He asked if Hope had feelings for Justin. Hope didn't know what she felt and wondered how she and Bo got to this point. Bo said it started when she moved out. Hope wondered if they could have solved things if Carly hadn't entered the picture. Bo asked what he should have done or said to fix things. The couple rehashed their opposing views on the handling of Ciara's kidnapping. Hope said she wanted Bo to say he didn't have feelings for Carly and worried Carly's secret could put Ciara in danger. Ciara arrived. She and Bo left. Justin returned. Hope filled him in on her and Bo's talk. Hope said their kiss was just a cover, and didn't want to lead Justin on. Justin understood, but hoped maybe someday it could be more. Bo turned up at Maggie's house. They discussed his marriage. Bo swore he would have fixed things with Hope, if he could. Maggie advised him to try to rebuild things slowly.
Brady arrived at Sami's townhouse looking for her. Rafe went to fetch her, while Brady found a note saying she'd gone out. Brady said he was there to tell Sami he'd gone to see Nicole. Rafe was annoyed. "If my sister gets hurt, I'm coming after you," he promised. Tim arrived. Rafe asked if the bureau had any new information on Sydney's case. Tim said they didn't.
Troy handed a hit man a picture of Arianna, citing her as his target. At the pub, Gabi and Arianna discussed her first day at Salem High. Gabi got a call from Chad and went off to meet him. Brady arrived. He wasn't happy about finding Arianna alone and worried she was in danger. Arianna noted she almost had the head of the cartel yesterday. She found his phone and gave it to Roman, but Troy wiped out the contact list. Brady wondered if Troy knew Arianna was onto him. Arianna assured him Troy wasn't a threat. Brady 'fessed up about visiting Nicole. Arianna wasn't pleased. The hit man arrived and was annoyed to see Brady there. Brady explained the main reason he went to visit Nicole was so she'd keep trying to help find Sydney. Arianna and Brady kissed, when Gabi interrupted. Gabi told them Chad bought her a latte, then went to the kitchen to start inventory. Arianna said she wanted to talk to Gabi alone about Chad. Brady left. The hit man watched. Gabi returned. Arianna started to discuss Chad, but got a call from Troy, who said they had to meet. Arianna shooed Gabi off, as the hit man crept in.
Sami met with EJ, who told her he got another letter from the kidnapper. Sami read it. EJ said he'd started figuring out the coded instructions for the ransom drop. Sami wanted to call Rafe but EJ forbade it. EJ figured out the last part of the note: They had to be 200 yards away in a certain direction. Soon, EJ and Sami arrived at the pier. They noticed a yellow ribbon on a post with a bag attached to it. EJ found a phone inside it, just as it rang. Anna asked to speak to Sami. She assured Sydney was fine and told Sami the negotiations would be between the two of them. She insisted Sami tell no one. Rafe called, but Sami didn't answer. Sami promised not to tell a soul. Anna warned if she did, Sydney would disappear forever. Anna made her ransom demand and told Sami she had 24 hours to get it. After the call, Sami started to cry. EJ assured her he would get the money. When Sami returned to her townhouse Rafe emerged and asked where she'd been. Sami dodged. Rafe told her he had big news, but his phone rang. Rafe went off to take the call. Alone, Sami murmured. "There's something I have to tell you, too."
At the DiMera mansion, EJ was on the phone demanding $5 million be ready when he got there. He hung up, got another call, and was clearly perturbed. "Impossible!" he spat.
Wednesday
Troy's hit man prepared to off Arianna, when Brady walked in. Brady told him the pub was closed, and he left. Brady told Arianna about Nicole's sentencing and invited her to go with him. She declined; then, said she'd stop by. Outside, the hit man and Troy argued. Troy said he wanted the job done, even if it meant killing Arianna and Brady. Troy came into the pub and told Arianna the shipment would be late again. She wasn't pleased. Arianna headed off to court.
Nathan and Stephanie had it out about his arrest. She was perturbed he asked her out on New Year's Eve and ended up fighting over Melanie. Nathan apologized, insisting he was making some changes in his life starting with her. Steph explained how she realized things wouldn't have worked out with Philip. Nathan said he realized the same thing about Melanie. If Steph wanted to give him a second chance, she knew where to find him.
Philip carried Melanie into the Kiriakis mansion and informed her they were taking the Titan jet to Vegas. Philip started packing; then, had a change of heart. He started kissing Melanie, and they ended up in bed. Afterwards, Philip got up, while Melanie dreamt of making love to Nathan. Melanie woke up and asked Philip if they could go on a long honeymoon in Europe. He agreed. Later, Philip stopped by the hospital and found Steph. He told her about his upcoming honeymoon and asked about Nathan. Steph said Melanie was finally out of his system. Nathan was ready for someone more real. Nathan found Melanie filling out paperwork. She explained about her honeymoon in Europe and that she was dropping out of nursing school.
Mia watched with disdain as Gabi and Chad chatted at the Java Cafe. When Gabi stepped away, Mia approached Chad and explained they were sentencing Nicole today, and she had to testify. Gabi returned and asked Mia what was going on with Chad. Mia suggested she come to the courthouse and find out. Chad's father told him he didn't have to testify. He wanted his son's name out of this. Chad insisted he was testifying.
Rafe had something to tell Sami, but a phone call interrupted. While he was off, Sami realized there was something she had to tell Rafe, too. When Rafe returned, Sami started to talk, but Rafe insisted his news was more important: He'd been reinstated with the FBI. Someone in charge at the bureau was impressed with his work on the baby switch and wanted him on the case. Sami was thrilled. Rafe proceeded to tell Sami that Nicole's sentencing was today. Before they left for the court, Will returned home and asked to go with them. Alone, Rafe told Sami about Brady's visit and how depressed Nicole was. Sami thought Nicole deserved it. Rafe agreed: You never lie to the people you love. Meanwhile, EJ received a phone call that displeased him and he rushed off.
Nicole met with her attorney and announced she was pleading guilty. The attorney tried to dissuade her, to no avail. Nicole insisted she deserved no mercy from the judge. Later, EJ met Sami and Rafe at the courthouse. Nicole was escorted in. Rafe got a call and left. Sami asked EJ if he got the ransom money. He assured he was working on it. The court session began, and the judge called witnesses to the stand. EJ went on about Nicole's lies. Sami went on about how she might never see her daughter again and Nicole was responsible. Mia and Chad testified. Gabi listened and was stunned. Later, she barged into the Java Café and told Chad she would have appreciated a heads-up about his and Mia's baby.
The judge thanked everyone for testifying and asked if anyone wanted to speak on Nicole's behalf. Brady said he would.
Arianna arrived and listened as Brady went on about how in her heart Nicole really thought she gave birth to Sydney. He told the judge she deserved mercy. Nicole took the stand and insisted there was no excuse for what she did, saying she deserved the worse sentence the judge could give. “All I care about is Sydney and bringing her home. I'm sorry,” she sobbed. The judge was touched by Nicole's remorse. EJ erupted. So did Sami. The judge chastised the two of them; then, said he was ready to render his verdict.
Thursday
Anna hung up the phone and told Sydney her ex-mother was being sentenced. Meanwhile, the judge announced he'd reached a decision and asked Nicole to stand. He said Nicole's sentence would be reduced because of her remorse. Sami erupted. The judge ordered her to sit down and shut up; then, announced Nicole's sentence: 20 years! Nicole started to faint. Brady rushed to her side. Nicole told everyone what she did was horrible and that she deserved to pay for it. She urged them to keep searching for Sydney, before being hauled away.
Gabi went off on Chad for not telling her about his baby. Chad thought she already knew. Mia came over and said Gabi deserved to hear the whole story, then explained that she and Chad had been through a lot, and not just as friends. Even though she went to the dance with Will, Mia said Chad was her soul mate. Mia asked Gabi not to say anything to either guy. Will phoned Mia and told her about Nicole's sentence. They decided to meet at Maggie's. Mia told Chad about Nicole's sentence and left. Gabi started to go, and Chad tried to stop her. She warned him to stay away from her. Chad admitted he'd made a big mistake with Mia, but it was in the past. Gabi didn't believe it. Chad asked if Mia said something to her.
Maggie and Chloe were at the hospital discussing how Chloe would tend to her work, while Maggie was off cruising with Mickey. Lexie arrived and told Chloe she might want check out things at the courthouse. Later, Chloe showed up to visit Nicole. Nicole said she didn't plan to appeal her case. She got what she deserved. Chloe asked for a minute alone with her friend and promised she'd write and visit Nicole. Nicole told Chloe not to take Daniel's love for granted. She'd chased an illusion for a year, when real love with Brady was right in her face. They gals said an emotional goodbye.
Mia cuddled up to Will on Maggie's couch and told him how much she needed him. Maggie and Lexie entered the kitchen and talked about Mickey and the Hortons. A knock at the door interrupted Mia and Will. Mia answered to find Gabi, who was returning Mia's scarf. Gabi noticed how disheveled the twosome were. In the kitchen, Maggie rambled on about how lucky she was to have found the man of her dreams and hold onto him. Lexie noted how Maggie and Mickey were a good example for her and Abe. Mia asked Will to get her a drink. Meanwhile, Maggie headed upstairs to Mickey. Gabi asked why Mia was kissing Will. Mia swore she wasn't. Gabi wondered why Mia was stringing Will along; if she really cared about Chad, she should leave Will alone. Will overheard and asked what Gabi meant by that. Maggie returned to the kitchen and started sobbing.
When Brady walked into the pub, a cold Arianna said she couldn't understand how he wanted Nicole to be free after what she'd done to Sami. She wondered what he would do if Nicole wasn't in jail. "You're still in love with her, Brady," whined Arianna. Later, Arianna had a vision of Nicole telling her she'd always be in Brady's heart.
Nicole was crying when Brady showed up. She told Brady he was the only one who ever cared about her, and warned him not to let Arianna her hurt him like she did. Then, she told Brady not to call, write or visit her. It would be too hard for her. They kissed goodbye, and Brady left.
EJ told Sami and Rafe it was time to get back to work on finding Sydney. Rafe said he'd been reinstated by the FBI. When Rafe left to take a call, EJ reconsidered telling him about the ransom note, but had a change of heart. Rafe returned and asked what EJ and Sami were talking about. Sami dodged. EJ insisted they were talking about Nicole's sentence. Later, back at Sami's townhouse, Rafe remained suspicious. He asked Sami if there was something she wanted to tell him. Meanwhile, EJ was back at the mansion when he got a call and rushed off. At the cabin, Anna heard another sound at the door. She opened it to find EJ!
Friday
Bo met up with Justin at the pub and congratulated him. "You've been after my wife ever since you came to Salem. You got her. Bravo," he cracked. Justin insisted he"d tried to do the right thing from the beginning, but now that Hope realized her marriage was over and Bo moved on with Carly, he was done being the good guy. Justin told Bo not to blame him. Bo was the one who gave up on his marriage, when he kissed Carly.
Carly got into the hospital elevator unaware that Vivian was inside and panicked. Vivian taunted her that the small space must remind her of that trying time in the casket. Carly told Vivian to stop the mind games. "You want me to admit that I killed Lawrence? Fine. I did," admitted Carly, noting she"d do it again, since he was a violent, sociopath. Vivian admired Carly's candor, but wanted to see remorse. The elevator stopped and Vivian got out, promising to see Carly in hell. The doors closed and the elevator began making strange sounds. Carly panicked, flashing back to being buried alive. Suddenly, Bo arrived, pried open the doors, and saved Carly. Later, the pair sat on the bed at his house. Carly told him about her horrible encounter with Vivian. Bo told Carly she was strong and courageous, the same Carly he fell in love with. Then, they fell into a kiss.
Hope discovered a despondent Maggie. Maggie explained she"d gone upstairs to check on Mickey and found him dead. She tried CPR, but nothing work. Hope asked if she could go check on things. Later, Hope returned, noting she"d called 911. Soon, the paramedics wheeled Mickey's body off. Maggie professed her love to him. Maggie thought about the ailing Alice and told Hope they couldn"t tell her about Mickey. She"d never be able to take it. Hope said they had to. Hope called her grandmother and announced she was coming over to see her. Maggie realized she had to call Melissa and Sarah.
"What did Gabi mean that you should leave me alone and stop leading me on?" asked Will. Mia explained that Gabi freaked when she found out she and Chad had a baby and didn"t understand they were history. Will wasn"t so sure and headed off to talk to Gabi. Mia followed. Will entered the Java Caf, but Gabi wasn"t there. He told Mia he tried to understand her accepting two dates to the dance, but couldn't. Mia said her head was messed up after everything that happened and begged Will not to leave her. Will told her they were over and stormed off.
EJ stood at the cabin door and chastised Anna. "I gave you strict instructions not to leave and I find you disobeying me," he scolded, warning Anna the deal was off unless she did exactly as he said. Anna swore she heard a strange noise and thought she and Sydney might not be safe there. EJ assured her everything was fine. Anna just needed to concern herself with making sure their plan went off without a hitch. Then, she"d get her money, and he"d get his daughter. Anna took Sydney off for a nap, and EJ called Sami. Soon, Anna returned, noting the tyke couldn"t sleep. She admitted overhearing EJ"s chat with Sami. Anna called Sami an "ingrate" and said Sydney deserved better. Anna wondered when this whole caper might be over and what the next step was. EJ said all Anna needed to know is she got paid when the job was done. Then, he sang to Sydney.
Rafe confronted Sami about keeping something from him. Sami insisted she wasn"t. She noted EJ was grateful they"d put aside their personal issues to work together to find Sydney. Rafe didn"t think EJ was happy he was reinstated with the FBI. He was a DiMera and would thought he was above the law. Rafe assured Sami they"d get Sydney back despite EJ, noting she might already be back in her arms if it weren"t for her ex. Rafe thought the kidnapping might be a personal thing against EJ, since there was no ransom note. Sami was about to spill the beans, when Bo showed up to discuss the case. Rafe said he"d hoped the kidnapper would have contacted them by now. Sami got a call from EJ. She wanted to tell Rafe about the ransom note, noting Rafe"s theory that a DiMera enemy might have snatched Sydney. EJ insisted no one would cross him. Sami returned to Rafe, who vowed to get Sydney back.
