DAYS Week of January 25, 2010
Monday
At the station, Troy was arrested. He yelled that Arianna was a narc, with Brady and EJ present. Brady was curious when Troy spoke directly to EJ about Ari working with the cops. He questioned Elvis about it. EJ feigned confusion. Arianna thanked Elvis for saving her earlier. Brady was still suspicious and asked why EJ was even at the Pub. EJ revealed he and Sami received a ransom note and he thought Ari might want to be there for her brother.... Arianna was worried because she hadn't completed her undercover assignment. Roman looked into it for her. He returned with bad news: She had to go back to prison ASAP.
At the Pub, Hope held a toy sailboat, then flashed back to being on a sailboat boat with Bo. She literally ran into him and the toy was crushed. He apologized. She said it was for Ciara. She then asked Bo how he could have lied to her about Carly's secret. He noted that he couldn't say more. "So this secret is why our marriage ended and you still don't have the decency to tell me what it is?" Hope asked. "The secret didn't end our marriage. You did," he shot back. Hope mused that he was blaming her again. She left to buy Ciara a new sailboat. "If only everything was so easily replaceable," she sighed. "But then again, I was, wasn't I?"
Fighting tears, a grieving Maggie called Chez Rouge to say she couldn't make it to the restaurant. Carly came by and said she was having some run-ins with Melanie. She apologized for causing a scene after Mickey died. Maggie didn't want to talk further. Mia came in and told Carly to leave. Maggie admonished the teen for being so rude. Maggie asked why she was even home; Mia explained it was to retrieve a book. Maggie gave it to her, then told her to go. Carly took off, too. Maggie broke down in tears.
Carly ran into Mia on the pier and promised not to bother Mia or Melanie again. She went to Bo's after and could tell he seemed down. She asked what was wrong. He didn't want to talk about it. They sat together on the couch and vowed to be there for each other.... On the pier, Hope cried and recalled happier times with Bo.
At the mansion, Vivian called Gus and implored him to find out whether or not Melanie was Carly's daughter. She walked into the living room and found Mel and Philip making out. Viv talked about the fun time she and Mel had earlier planning the wedding. She asked if she could help with more plans. Phil was wary, but Melanie said it was okay. Vivian wondered if Mel's parents were coming to the nups. Melanie shared that they were dead. When Viv probed, Phil called off the questioning. Viv apologized. Victor entered and asked what was going on. Phil explained that "Katie Couric" was too nosy. Mel and Philip hurried out to Maggie's. Vivian revealed that she now felt Melanie was Carly's kid, not Mia. A frustrated Victor ordered her to just get Carly, once and for all. Viv thought of a plan and headed out.
Kate came upon an agitated Stefano at the house. He was angry that EJ had lied to him by not revealing that he had received a ransom note from Sydney's kidnapper. Kate pointed out that EJ had changed.... Kate ran into Philip at the Java Caf and offered to help Melanie get a wedding dress. Phil revealed that Vivian had already done so. Kate warned her son about Vivian and letting her get too close to Melanie.... Melanie arrived home to check on Maggie. Mags said Mel didn't have to take care of her. "Of course I do. You're the closest thing I'll ever have to a mommy," Melanie replied. Maggie went upstairs. Melanie made her tea. There was a knock at the door: It was Viv. She said she wanted to talk about the wedding. Melanie went upstairs to bring the tea. Gus called to say he had excellent news: He found a date of birth and Melanie is a match. Vivian was delighted and said Melanie's name aloud. Mel walked in and asked who Vivian was talking to.
At the cabin, Anna worried about Sydney's fever. She called EJ, who was at the mansion, and said he needed to pick up her medicine. He told Anna to give Sydney a kiss for him, then hung up. He turned around to see his father standing there. The Phoenix offered his help with finding Sydney and apologized to his son. "I'm sorry," EJ replied. "I'm sorry that you and I are estranged. I'm sorry you found out about Nicole's secret. I'm sorry you decided to betray my trust by not telling me ... You have ruined my life." Stefano told him to go to hell and walked out. EJ's phone rang again. It was Troy, who promised to remain loyal to EJ about him running the drug ring. Later, Stefano found children's medicine and a syringe on the floor. Stefano asked why his son had medicine for an infant.
Tuesday
Carly fell asleep on Bo's couch and dreamt of hosting Philip and Melanie for dinner chez Brady. In the dream, Vivian killed Mel. Carly woke up startled to a knock at the door: It was Justin. They argued over Bo and Hope and Carly and Hope's fight at Maggie's place. When Justin pushed, Carly slapped him and told him to leave. The conversation continued. Carly insisted it wasn't her fault that Bo and Hope split. "Keep telling yourself that," Justin smirked, then left.
Philip talked to his father about Vivian. He asked if Vic was in love with her. Victor had a visible, humorous reaction. Philip asked if Viv and Vic were really going to accompany him and Melanie on their honeymoon. Victor said they wouldn't if Philip didn't want them to and tried to get his son to lighten up.
Gus contacted Vivian, who was in Maggie's kitchen, to reveal that Melanie was Carly's daughter. Melanie came in and overheard Viv mention her name. She asked who was on the phone. Viv covered that it was a surprise for Mel. She added that she was thrilled that Melanie was marrying Philip and that she was fond of the teen. After Vivian left, Maggie and Melanie talked about Kate. Maggie warned her about her future mother-in-law. Mags went up to bed. Philip came by to see his fiance. He asked her to have dinner, but she wasn't up for it. They ate at Maggie's instead. Melanie confessed that she was worried about Maggie. Mel then told him about Viv's visit earlier. "She's so interested in me and my family and my background. I can't figure out why," Mel noted.
Vivian returned home with an envelope for Victor that contained proof of the Melanie/Carly connection. A grave Victor warned Vivian not to harm Melanie since it would hurt Philip. Viv insisted she wouldn't. Her plan was to kill Carly. "So anticlimactic," she sighed.
Sami picked up around the penthouse and thought about her earlier argument with Rafe. He came home and it was awkward. She apologized for what she said in anger earlier, that he wasn't Sydney's father. He pointed out that what she said was the truth, adding that she clearly didn't trust him. She got upset and tearily insisted she did. Gabi came to the door, saying she needed to talk to her brother. Sami invited her in and went to the other room. Gabi told Rafe what went happened with Arianna. "She's going back to prison — tonight," Gabi cried. Rafe declared she wasn't and he and Ari headed out. Sami came back in the room to find them gone and left, too.
Stefano found the infant medicine bottle and asked EJ about it. EJ deflected the line of questioning, then claimed it was for Johnny. The Phoenix didn't believe him. Sami walked in. EJ tossed her the meds. She said they were Johnny's. Stefano pointed out that the bottle was for an infant. Sami explained that Johnny choked on a pill the week before so she gave him infant medicine to prevent that. Stef left the room. Sami opened up to EJ that she was fighting with Rafe and didn't want to be alone. EJ comforted her, noting that it would be horrible if she and Rafe split over Sydney's disappearance. He put his arm around her, which Stefano spied. "What are you really up to, son of mine?" he wondered.
At the station, Roman lamented to Arianna that he had to send her back to prison. Brady was outraged; Roman put him in his place. Ari noted that she'd be locked up with Nicole. Rafe came in. Ari flew into her brother's arms. He talked to Roman, then left to try and work things out for her. Roman said he had stalled as long as he could and it was time to go. Ari cried while saying good-bye to Gabi and Brady. She was cuffed. On the pier, Rafe talked to his contact and implored him to negotiate Ari's release, or else he would make it public that Ari was put in harm's way without backup. Roman came into the station and revealed that a DEA agent stepped in and Ari was granted a stay. She thanked Roman, but he said it was all Rafe. Ari was overjoyed, as were Brady and Gabi.
Wednesday
Justin and Hope met at the pub. Carly was at the bar, spied them and left. Justin noted that Carly had turned into a completely different person. Hope asked why. Before he could explain, Justin was called away. Hope took off.
Maggie helped Melanie clean her wedding dress. Melanie recounted how Carly and Vivian faced off at Java. Maggie urged Mel to be a little nicer to Carly. Melanie said she didn't like how in her business Carly was. Maggie asked her to try and make an effort. There was a knock at the door: it was a delivery man, who brought by Mickey's belongings from the office. Maggie began to cry. She and Melanie opened the boxes. Maggie got upset at many of the items. Melanie found a Valentine's Day box of candy and handed it to Mags. There was an anniversary gift taped to the box and a card, which Maggie read aloud. They put some things together; Melanie went to take a bag to the men's shelter. In a box marked Christmas gifts, Maggie discovered a bottle of scotch. She debated taking a drink.
Vivian planned Carly's demise. Victor just wanted Dr. M out of Bo's life. Vivian imagined doing in Carly with a meat cleaver, then got so overheated, she put ice to her forehead to calm down. She then imagined Lawrence visiting her and telling her to forget about killing Carly; he wanted her to make Carly suffer every day of her "miserable life." He made a persuasive case for her to harm Melanie. Vivian agreed to kill Mel. When she came out of her reverie, she said, "Now that's what I call an inspiring dream."
Bo arrived at the station to find Rafe, who had been there all night. Bo suggested Rafe go home to Sami, but Rafe noted that he didn't think Sami wanted to see him anymore. A cop delivered a forensics report. Rafe was annoyed by the results and headed out.
Bo and Carly made plans to meet at Java. En route, Carly ran into Hope. Hope warned Carly not to hurt Bo. They faced off. Again. Bo came upon them arguing. Hope asked if they could talk alone. He asked if it was about Ciara. Hope said no, so Bo said they nothing they had to say to each other was private. Carly tried to excuse herself, but Hope said she would leave. Not before zinging Carly one last time, though. Hope made a mysterious phone call.... Carly and Bo headed back to his place. He asked her to tell him more about his conversation with Hope. She was unconcerned about his wife, she noted. Bo seemed distracted and Carly asked if he was thinking about Hope. Bo said he had a lot on his mind: Carly, Sydney, Sami.... Carly urged him to talk to Hope, but he said there was nothing left to say. "Besides, I'm right where I want to be," he told her.
EJ called Anna to check in on Sydney. An upset Sami came to the door, saying that she couldn't remember what Sydney looked like. She also blamed herself for everything that went on, starting with her lying to EJ about her pregnancy. Sami looked through Sydney's baby book. EJ insisted the baby was fine and promised to bring her back. "There's one thing I know about you, EJ. You keep your promises," she declared. Rafe entered and revealed that the only prints found on the ransom note were EJ's, who contaminated the evidence. Rafe suggested they pray, which infuriated Sami. Once alone, Sami asked why he didn't come home the night before. He said he was at the station. She pointed out that he had disappeared before and felt it was happening again. They bickered, which turned into a big fight. "Are you saying you wish you never met me?" Rafe asked her. She didn't reply, but cried that she wanted her baby back. EJ was outside talking to Anna, who overheard Sami and Rafe through the phone. Sami left the manse.
Thursday
Sami cleaned up around the house and flashed back to her earlier fight with Rafe. There was a knock at the door. It was Arianna, looking for her brother. Sami said he wasn't home. Ari asked when he'd be back. "Probably never," Sami replied, adding that they had a fight. Ari told her about the back to prison drama she had earlier.
At the DiMera mansion, EJ offered Rafe help in dealing with Sami. Rafe asked how. EJ tried to give him perspective on Sami, noting that he and Sami both blamed Rafe for the fact that Sydney wasn't home with them. Rafe countered that he didn't need EJ to tell him how Sami felt and left. Anna called EJ, who told her that the ransom notes yielded no prints and they were in the clear. She congratulated him for outsmarting everyone. He laughed that Sami was miserable and blaming Rafe for everything. EJ said he was headed over to see her and Sydney. He offered to bring chocolate, but Anna said she was dieting and that he shouldn't.
Rafe returned to the townhouse to find Sami and Ari together. Ari hurried off. Once alone, Sami asked why Rafe didn't tell her that Ari was dealing drugs out of her family's pub. Rafe said he recently discovered it himself, plus Ari was working undercover and he wasn't comfortable saying anything. Sami came down on him for the double standard about secret keeping. "If I hadn't told you my secret, I would have my daughter back!" she exclaimed. He said he would have someone else handle Sydney's case. He also told her he was moving out. He left the room to pack; Sami broke down in tears.
Ari visited EJ and thanked him for saving her life. She confessed that she had been working for the DEA and the Salem PD. EJ feigned ignorance. EJ showed her baby photos of Sydney, then had to take a call from Berlin on the landline. His cell phone rang. Arianna thought it was hers and picked it up. It was Anna, who said to go ahead and bring the chocolates "whenever it was safe."
Stephanie and Nathan finished breakfast at the Brady Pub and kissed. Steph's cell phone rang: It was Melanie. When she hung up, Steph suggested to Nathan that she tell Melanie the truth about their burgeoning relationship. Nathan said it was fine, then took off. Melanie and Steph met at the Pub. Mel complained about the problems she was having planning the wedding. Mel realized it might be awkward for her to be discussing it with Steph, but Steph assured her it was okay. Melanie asked what was up with Nathan. Before Steph could respond, she was called to a meeting at the hospital.
In her kitchen, Maggie eyed the bottle of booze on the counter, then looked at a photo of her and Mickey and her sponsor's phone number. She picked up a glass and the bottle. Nathan came home and found the empty scotch bottle. She assured him she didn't drink it. She broke down that she felt guilty for not finding Mickey earlier and possibly saving his life.
Chloe filled in for Maggie at the hospital. Daniel was thrilled to see her there. Daniel had a break coming up and asked her to spend it with him. She said okay, then headed to pediatrics. Carly approached him and he told her they needed to talk about Vivian and Carly's overreaction to Melanie and Viv's friendship. Carly chided herself for not warning Melanie privately about Ms. Alamain. The conversation turned to Chloe and marriage and family. Carly noted that Chloe seemed lovely. Later, Carly ran into Chloe. They discussed Chloe's possible inability to have children. Chloe asked Carly to keep the conversation between them.
Daniel headed to the Brady Pub and sat with Melanie. She asked him why Carly was so crazy. Daniel defended Carly, then asked Melanie if she was sure marrying Philip was the right thing. Melanie got annoyed and insisted it was. She left and went to Maggie's. Mel overheard Nathan comforting his grandmother. After Maggie left, Melanie told Nathan how wonderful he was. He thanked her, but things were awkward. Nate headed upstairs. Melanie left. On the pier, she thought about kissing Nathan. She got so mad at herself for thinking about him that she hit her hand. Carly came upon her and asked if she could take a look at it. Melanie was resistant, but Carly insisted. Carly gave her a quick exam and determined nothing was broken. She assured Melanie she'd be fine. Melanie asked why Carly was always so kind to her and why she meant so much to her. Carly asked her if she could keep a secret.
Chloe met Daniel at the Pub. She was about to confide in him about her desire to have a child, but he surprised her with tickets to the opera in Chicago. She was thrilled and wondered how she got so lucky. He asked her what she was going to tell him earlier, but she said she didn't want to spoil anything. "Everything will work out; miracles do happen," she assured him.
Maggie returned home and wondered how she was going to deal without Mickey.... Stephanie and Nathan ran into each other and Steph told him that she didn't tell Melanie about them. Nathan wondered why. Steph explained that she didn't want there to be bad feelings between them.
Friday
Vivian came home and told Victor she had an epiphany and knew exactly what to do with Carly, which was go back to plan A and kill Melanie. Victor reminder her that Philip planned to marry Mel. He then demanded to know what had changed, since Vivian said she liked Mel. "You're a card-carrying phony," he told her. He asked who got to her. "Lawrence, my nephew," she explained. Victor mocked her and "talked" to the late Lawrence and told him Viv was bonkers. Vivian explained that Lawrence had come to her in a dream. Victor forbade her from harming Melanie. They argued. She made a furtive call to Gus after, noting that Melanie's future rested in their hands. They met on the pier, where Vivian re-stated her plan to eliminate Melanie — and added that Carly would be there to see it.
On the pier, Carly asked Melanie if she could keep a secret. Melanie asked if they were in junior high. Carly said it was serious. Melanie answered yes, she could keep a secret. Carly wondered if they could speak privately. Melanie suggested Maggie's house. Once they arrived, Carly got ice to put on Melanie's hand, but Mel wanted to know Carly's secret. Carly told her that she had a daughter many years ago and that not many people in Salem knew about it because it was complicated. Melanie made a crack about Carly's complicated life and Carly asked for a chance to explain. Melanie asked why she wasn't with her daughter. Carly said she wanted nothing more than to be with her. Melanie assumed the girl didn't want to be with Carly. Carly explained that she lost her daughter after she had her. A sympathetic Mel assumed she had died and apologized for how she had been treating Dr. M. Mel asked Carly to forgive her. Things got emotional. Carly added that she had a son named Nicholas, but they weren't getting along. Mel realized that Carly was all alone. She asked if Dr. M returned to Salem for Bo. Carly said no, that she returned to Salem because it felt like home. "It's the one place I've ever truly been happy," she added. Melanie then confessed that she didn't really like Vivian and thought she was "sincerity-challenged." Carly thought that was a good thing. Carly went to leave; Melanie said she would see her at the hospital the next day .
Rafe went to leave Sami's place with his bags. She stopped him to give him something before he left that she said gave her hope about Sydney and made Sami feel close to her. "Right now, I think you need it more than I do," she told him. He said he couldn't take it, but she insisted. He vowed not to rest until be brought Sydney home safe and sound.
Brady talked to Roman at the station and said he had been trying to reach Arianna but couldn't. He worried that the drug lord had gotten to her. Roman assured Brady that Ari was okay.... Rafe came by to talk about Arianna's status. He and Roman also talked about Sami. Roman said he would have done the same thing Rafe did with the ransom drop. Rafe informed Roman that he had moved out.... Brady visited Sami. She was not in the mood and wasn't welcoming. He wanted to clear the air about him testifying for Nicole. She said that he did what he had to do and asked what he wanted. He explained he was looking for Rafe because he couldn't find Ari. She told him that Rafe wasn't there and wasn't coming back. He asked what happened. She opened up about their recent fights. Brady urged her to work with Rafe. She didn't know how. After Brady left, Sami sadly recalled happier times with Rafe.
At the DiMera mansion, Arianna picked up EJ's phone by mistake. Anna was on the other end and spoke, then quickly hung up when she heard Ari's voice. EJ returned and angrily asked Ari what she was doing. She said she thought it was her phone and showed him that they had the same one. He apologized. She asked if he had something to hide. He said no. She wondered who Anna was. He asked why. She explained that was who called. He stalled, then told Ari that Anna was Tony's widow and that Anna hated Stefano because of what he did to Tony. Ari asked if there was more to the story. He got defensive, but she calmed him down and explained that the pain in his eyes indicated Stefano hurt him, too. He asked her not to tell anybody that Anna was in town because he didn't want the Phoenix to find out. She said she would keep mum. After Ari left, EJ called Anna and freaked out on her.
Brady met up with Ari later in her room. She told him she was at EJ's and he warned her again about the DiMeras. He also told her about Sami and Rafe's split.... EJ ran into Rafe outside the Brady Pub and spied his bag. He correctly deduced that Rafe had moved out and was pleased.
