DAYS Week of February 2, 2009
Monday
While Sister Theresa prayed for Sami's baby, Dr. Baker brought in the infant (really Mia's newborn) and announced she was healthy. Dr. Baker handed the child to Sami. "That's my baby?" asked Sami, questioning why she never cried. Dr. Baker assured her that was normal with some infants. Sami took "her" little girl and fawned all over her. Then, she went into worry mode, realizing they weren't safe there. Sami told Sister Theresa they had to leave.
Maggie told Chloe to button her blouse, after finding her at Daniel's. Chloe tried to talk her way out of it. "I saw you and Daniel kissing," spat Maggie. Chloe begged for a chance to explain, noting this affair wasn't planned. Maggie said Chloe would have to suffer the consequences. Chloe pleaded with Maggie to keep mum and promised it wouldn't happen again. Later, they bumped into Lucas, who asked why they seemed so serious. Chloe covered that they were talking about Kate. Maggie asked Lucas to fetch her a drink. Alone, Maggie and Chloe continued spatting. Lucas returned, noting Kate wanted him and Chloe to set a wedding date. Chloe said they could discuss that tomorrow. Lucas got a call and left. Chloe thanked Maggie for keeping quiet and promised to stay away from Daniel. Maggie warned Chloe she'd be watching her close ly.
Hope talked to Bo about "cracking the whip" on their social life, because of work. She wasn't even allowed to see Kayla for a cup of coffee. Bo had another vision of Hope shooting Kayla and told Hope she could see his sister another time. Bo suggested he and Hope do something together, noting he felt like his wife was ignoring him. Hope asked what this was really about. Bo insisted he missed his wife.
Kayla told the mayor's killer he looked familiar, when he sat up and started choking her. Daniel rushed in and freed Kayla. Orderlies subdued the killer, while Daniel gave him a sedative. Suddenly, the killer went into cardiac arrest. Daniel tended to him and revived him. Daniel wondered why the killer was strangling Kayla. Daniel left, and Kayla phoned Steve about the sketch of the killer he'd shown her. Then, she phoned and asked her to come to the hospital. Hope arrived and Kayla explained what happened, noting she thought her attacker was the mayor's killer. Suddenly, the killer awakened, rushed out of his room, and grabbed Kayla. Back at the pub, Bo got a message from Hope about going to the hospital. Hope aimed her gun at the killer. The killer warned Kayla would die if Hope pulled the trigger.
A wounded Rafe thought back to his fight with the killer and called out for Sami. Later, Rafe arrived at the convent and a nun informed him Sami and Sister Theresa left. Moments later, the twos ome and "Sami's" newborn returned. Sami and Rafe shared a happy reunion. Sami thanked Rafe for taking care of her. Rafe noted they weren't safe; then, collapsed. Sami and Sister Theresa tended to Rafe.
Nicole cuddled "her" daughter, noting what a happy family she, the tyke and daddy EJ would be. Nicole phoned the mansion to leave EJ a message. EJ walked in and picked up the phone while Nicole was talking. EJ asked if Nicole was there, but she hung up. "Why is nothing ever easy?" asked Nicole, contemplating her next move. Dr. Baker came in and Nicole told him to get her a room and get rid of Sami. Nicole explained that EJ was home and instructed Dr. Baker to phone him and say she was in labor. Dr. Baker left to tend to Sami, but she was gone. Back at the mansion, EJ phoned someone and ordered them to track his last call. Dr. Baker phoned and told EJ that Nicole was in labor. EJ needed to get to the clinic. Dr. Baker commended Nicole on her good luck so far, but warned that "her" baby looked like Sami. EJ arrived and raced into Nicole's room to find her holding a bundle of pink joy.
Tuesday
Steve and Bo raced to the hospital, where Hope demanded the mayor's killer release Kayla. The killer wouldn't oblige and told Hope she was going to do exactly as he told her. Lexie happened by as the killer ordered Hope to lose her gun. Hope placed it on the floor while Lexie phoned Roman. Soon, Roman arrived, and Lexie filled him in on what was going on. Hope begged the killer to release Kayla and take her as a hostage. The killer instructed Hope to find him a way out of there. Hope tried to negotiate to no avail. Bo and Steve snuck up behind the killer, just as Hope shot her gun. Kayla hit the floor. So did the killer. "What have I done?" wailed Hope. Steve raced to Kayla's side as the orderlies wheeled her off for treatment. Roman told Bo he was going to have to turn this matter over to internal affairs. Bo embraced Hope, telling her she wasn't to blame for this. "I am," he confessed. "Oh my God! You knew?" countered Hope, demanding Bo tell her if he saw the shooting in one of his visions.
After a game of pool at The Cheatin' Heart, Philip suggested he and Stephanie cultivate other aspects of their relationship. Something that started out vertically, but would put them in "a horizontal frame of mind." Soon, they were dancing closely and discussing their surprising new relationship. Then, came a kiss.
Philip announced he was falling in love with Steph. She was surprised, but admitted she was falling for him, too. Philip suggested going to his place. Steph was game. Later, they arrived at the mansion and Philip carried her upstairs. Things started getting steamy, when Steph's cell rang. It was Steve delivering the bad news that Kayla had been shot.
Nicole invited EJ to come meet "their" new daughter. EJ called the baby beautiful, like her mother, but said she resembled someone else. Nicole was relieved when EJ announced it was him, noting he and the baby had a birthmark in the same place. EJ asked if there were any complications with the delivery. (Flashback to the baby switch.) Nicole confessed there was: their daughter wasn't breathing when she was born, but she was now fine. EJ, Nicole and new baby bonded. Dr. Baker assured mother and child were fine. Still, EJ wanted to take them to a hospital to be examined. Nicole refused, eventually convincing EJ to heed her wishes. EJ took the baby out into the hall, and Nicole asked Dr. Baker to check on Mia at her apartment. A nurse saw EJ, surmised he was the baby's daddy, and mentioned a nun being there to help the mother through birth. EJ started asking about the nun. Dr. Baker emerged and explained the sister was a volunteer from a local convent and never left Nicole's side. EJ returned to Nicole's room and thanked her for the beautiful family she'd given him. Nicole said she felt "blessed" and finally had everything she ever wanted.
Rafe regained consciousness, and Sami assured him all is fine. Rafe remembered back to the mayor's killer figuring out Sami was at the convent and splitting, and warned Sami they weren't safe; then, he passed out again. Sami filled in Sister Theresa and said Rafe needed a doctor. Sister Mary Margaret, a registered nurse, came to the rescue, insisting Rafe be taken to the hospital. Sami explained that Rafe couldn't leave. Someone wanted him dead. Sister Mary Margaret gave Rafe antibiotics. Sami reiterated Rafe's concerns to Sister Theresa. The nun hid Sami in a special room, the same room they took Rafe. Alone with Rafe, Sami told him how much she appreciated everything he'd done for her. Now she just had to find a way to bring her baby home without EJ learning the baby is his child. The only thing she would miss is Rafe. Rafe said he'd miss Sami, too. Then, he phoned for reinforcements, since he still feared for their safety. Rafe got off the phone and delivered the news the mayor's killer is dead. All of this was over. They were finally safe. Sami was torn, admitting she wasn't ready to leave yet. She needed to spend more time with "her" baby.
Wednesday
Melanie drifted off into fantasy land, as Philip arrived at Titan looking for a file. Melanie informed him she got the updated projection for the fuel project and that they'd be rolling in the dough soon. She handed Philip the file and asked, "Like what you see?" Soon, Philip was all over a delighted Melanie. Too bad Max interrupted her romantic fantasy. Melanie showed Max her business card. Max asked if she was still playing the DiMeras against Titan, when his phone rang and it was Caroline, saying that Kayla had been shot. He headed to the hospital with Melanie.
Philip and Stephanie's real romp was interrupted by a call from Steve, informing Steph about her mom's shooting. Philip and Stephanie raced to the hospital, where Hope was letting Bo have it for not telling her about his vision. "Kayla could die," noted Hope. "And you could've stopped this." Steve asked to see Kayla. Lexie warned Kayla was out of it. Steve sat by her beside, professed his love, and begged Kayla not to leave him. Lexie and a nurse arrived to wheel Kayla off to surgery. Hope told Kayla how sorry she was. Steve yelled that Bo knew this was going to happen. Bo insisted his vision wasn't clear. Steph and Philip arrived. Hope continued raging at Bo, while he countered that he'd tol d her to stay away from Kayla. Hope asked why he hadn't explained why he wanted her to stay away. Bo didn't think Hope would have taken his visions seriously. Roman arrived and questioned Hope about the shooting. Hope blamed Bo and walked off. Philip asked Melanie what she was doing there. She said she was there for Max. Steph sobbed in Max's arms. Lexie emerged to give an update on Kayla's surgery. Steve told her to do what she had to do to save his wife. Later, Lexie announced Kayla made it through surgery and her prognosis was good. Steph thanked Philip for being there for her. Lexie led Steve and Steph to Kayla's room. Bo offered to give Hope a ride home, but she headed off alone.
EJ and Nicole spent the evening bonding at the DiMera mansion with "their" new baby girl. EJ got an idea and left. Nicole got a call from Mia. Mia noted Dr. Baker gave her a clean bill of health, and she was leaving town. EJ returned, handed Nicole a glass, and made a toast to their future happiness. Later, a doctor examined the baby and proclaimed her fine. Then, she told Nicole to bring the infant to her office next week, so she could check the baby's weight and do blood typing. "No!" snapped Nicole, insisting she hated the idea of her little girl being a pin cushion. Nicole also admitted she tried nursing, but didn't feel confident doing it. When the doc and EJ pressed, Nicole pointed out she was bottle fed and was fine. After the doctor left, Nicole gave the baby to EJ. He fed her a bottle and went on about how much he loved his daughter. EJ and Nicole began discussing baby names. Nicole came up with Sydney. EJ's cell rang, and Nicole took it out of his pocket. EJ told Nicole to put it down. He just wanted to spend time with her and Sydney.
After Rafe assured Sami she was safe, she admitted she wasn't ready to head home. She had to lose the baby weight first. Rafe's cell rang, and it was Roman. Rafe gave Sami the phone. Roman instructed Sami to stay put until they could make sure the mayor's killer had been working alone. Then, Roman told Sami about Kayla. Sami relayed Roman's instructions that she stay put. "You're stuck with me," noted Sami. Rafe didn't mind, but wondered if Sami would ever be able to leave her child. Sami vowed to protect her daughter from the DiMeras and wondered if Nicole had her baby. Rafe and Sami began discussing names for Sami's (really Mia's) baby. Sami announced she had the perfect name: Grace. "Because it's through the grace of God that I have her," noted Sami, encouraging a reluctant Rafe to hold the baby. Sami watched and admitted she knew Sister Theresa was going to take good care of Grace, but didn't know how she was going to take being separated from her baby.
Thursday
Lucas arrived at the pub, and Max showed him The Salem Spectator's front page: Mayor's Assassin Slain. Lucas read the story and couldn't believe Kayla was shot. Max noted this meant Sami would be coming home. Lucas wondered how she'd explain her new baby.
Chloe met Daniel at the hospital to tell him about being found out by Maggie, but he got paged and had to take off. As she was leaving, Chloe bumped into Maggie, who asked if she'd broken things off with Daniel. Chloe brushed her off, so Maggie headed straight for Daniel, insisting he break up with Chloe. Daniel noted Chloe wouldn't be so confused, if she and Lucas were meant to be. He also said blabbing to Lucas wouldn't fix things. Maggie said if things were over between Chloe and Daniel, she wouldn't say a word. Daniel couldn't promise that. Lucas arrived with a bouquet of flowers and saw the pair chatting.
Nicole found EJ and Sydney together in the living room and got teary-eyed at the sight of her happy family. Nicole's cell rang and it was Mia, wanting to check on her baby. Soon, Stefano arrived to meet Sydney. EJ explained that Sydney wasn't breathing when she was born and that the delivery took place at the clinic. Stefano was appalled and wanted the place investigated. Nicole was annoyed and told Stefano to stop dissecting her life. Chloe arrived, and EJ and Stefano left. Nicole introduced Sydney and Chloe. Chloe ‘fessed up to Nicole about her affair. "I love Lucas, but I can't stay away from Daniel," she moaned, noting Maggie knew about the affair. Nicole wondered if Maggie would spill the beans. Chloe went on about Lucas being perfect and how marrying him might be a dream come true. Nicole urged her to make it happen. "I wanted EJ. I wanted this baby. Do you think I liked having to ...?" drifted off Nicole. "What did you do?" asked Chloe.
Sami assured Grace she would have a happy life, which meant keeping her far away from EJ. She thanked Sister Theresa for all her help. Sami told Grace about their family and professed her love to her, but told the infant she had to leave her at the convent. It was what was best for Grace, right now. However, Sami promised she would come back for her.
Hope remembered back to shooting Kayla and told Bo she was having trouble sleeping. She scolded Bo for not telling her about his vision. Bo said he couldn't have imagined that ever happening and thought he was losing it. Chelsea arrived and offered to help with Ciara, so Bo and Hope could take care of each other. Bo left for a meeting. Later, Hope got a call from Caroline, who gave her an update on Kayla. Chelsea told Hope she knew how it felt to feel really bad about something and wonder if people would ever look at you the same way. "Not people. Kayla," retorted Hope. Chelsea sensed something was amiss and asked what was going on between Bo and Hope. Meanwhile, Max ran into Bo, who confessed he was in Hope's doghouse. Bo lamented about killing a man last night and Hope shooting Kayla. Bo got a call and admitted, "I saw it coming." Max surmised it was bad news. Bo confirmed it and left. Chelsea and Max discussed the friction between Bo and Hope. Max mentioned Bo's phone call and how he thought things were going to get worse. Bo arrived home, when the phone rang. He told Hope not to answer it, warning it was Internal Affairs. The pair left for the cop shop.
EJ entered the pub and sat with Lucas. Lucas told him the mayor's killer was dead, which meant Sami was headed home. EJ noted how profoundly Sami had affected his life, but couldn't do it any more. "I wouldn't be too sure about that," countered Lucas. Lucas left, and Stefano arrived. He told EJ he knew Sami was coming home. EJ noted Johnny missed his mother. Stefano wondered how Nicole would react if Sami came by the mansion. "Sami and I share a son. That's it," said EJ.
Friday
Lexie met EJ at the pub. They chatted about his new baby girl. Lexie wanted to see her, but EJ said it wasn’t the best time. They discussed Kayla’s shooting and the mayor’s killer’s death. It meant Sami would be coming home. EJ wondered how Nicole would take that. Lexie sensed Nicole might feel threatened and asked why EJ just didn’t marry her.
Victor and Brady discussed Melanie and the alternative fuels project. Victor thought Brady had a lot to learn about women who love to bring men down. He mentioned Chloe and Nicole. Brady didn’t want to talk about them.
Stephanie and Philip talked about Kayla and their passionate night together, admitting they were falling in love. Melanie thought back to the couple talking about that night and pretended she wasn’t bothered by it. Then, she walked in and told Philip she was having second thoughts about keeping her alternative fuels project at Titan. She was worried about the company’s “lack of professionalism.” Melanie said she was tired of seeing the CEO with “his little sex kitten” instead of hard at work. Philip defended Steph; then, suggested he and Melanie head to his office to work things out. Melanie called Philip "a player.” Philip called Melanie “jealous.” Mel anie denied it and announced she was through with Titan. Then, she phoned EJ and said she was going with him on the alternative fuels project. EJ was happy, but said he’d get back to her since he was preoccupied with his new family. Melanie pretended they were setting up a meeting. Philip was furious. He accused Melanie of walking away, because he chose Steph over her. Victor walked in. Melanie told him she was through with Titan and left. Philip explained what happened. Victor said Melanie needed to be dealt with harshly. Philip promised to keep the project and bury her, as Steph listened.
Lucas bumped into Maggie at the hospital. She told him there were things he needed to know about Chloe, as Daniel looked on. Kate interrupted, noting she and Lucas were supposed to meet at The Cheatin’ Heart soon to discuss his wedding. Then she found Daniel and revealed she’d gotten news that could destroy Lucas and Chloe’s future: Sami was headed home. A nurse summoned Kate for blood work. Maggie suggested Lucas didn’t know Chloe that well. Lucas insisted he and Chloe knew each other “to the core.” Steph arrived, and Maggie asked if Melanie was causing problems between her and Philip. Steph said no, insisting Melanie couldn’t touch what she had with Philip.
Chloe asked Nicole what she’d done. "I did something wonderful," responded Nicole, shifting gears and bringing up Sami’s secret pregnancy and that she’d never tell EJ she was having his child. Nicole admitted she was keeping a secret from EJ, too, and needed a favor. Chloe had to promise she’d never tell anyone Nicole knew about Sami’s pregnancy. Chloe promised. The gals went back to discussing Chloe’s Daniel/Lucas dilemma. Nicole said the situation was in Chloe’s hands. She just had to decide. Later, Chloe arrived at Daniel's apartment. They discussed Maggie knowing about their affair and threatening to tell Lucas. "This has to be over,” said Chloe. "I won't walk away,” vowed Daniel. Chloe protested, momentarily. Then she succumbed to passion with Daniel, while Kate and Lucas waited for her at The Cheatin' Heart. Kate suggested moving up Lucas and Chloe’s wedding date, since Sami was coming back to town. It would make Chloe feel secure in their love.
Brady arrived at the mansion and found Nicole holding Sydney. He couldn’t believe Nicole pulled off her baby scam. He warned what she’d done was criminal. Plus, Mia could change her mind about giving up her baby or EJ could find out the truth. They started spatting, when EJ interrupted and asked what was going on. Nicole deflected. Brady turned to leave. EJ told Brady he was tired of having him around his house and fianc. Nicole assured she and Brady were just friends; then, went to tend to a crying Sydney. The men were bickering when suddenly Nicole screamed, “Something’s wrong with my baby.”
