Monday
Bo went to the hospital to investigate the dead body Carly found in the hospital bed. Daniel found them and told them that a new orderly was responsible for the mix up and was reprimanded. Bo thought he should be fired. Daniel revealed he quit unexpectedly that morning. Carly excused herself and Daniel and Bo caught up. Daniel explained that he knew Carly and she introduced him to his late wife, Rebecca. He also added that at the time, he didn't know Carly had been married to Victor. After, Bo and Carly talked alone. He said they should pay Vivian a visit. Carly noted Viv was sending a very clear message and thought they should stay low profile. Bo wanted to have a strategy discussion about Viv, so they headed back to his place, though she was reluctant. Once at the Brady home, they argued over how to deal with Vivian. Carly noticed a photo of Hope, Ciara and Bo was missing. She asked what happened to it. He said Hope took it. "I think it's over between the two of us," he revealed. He then realized he shouldn't have said it, pointing out that Hope wouldn't like him confiding in someone else. He said he didn't really know what went wrong. Carly started crying. He asked why. She admitted that him telling her his marriage was over made her happy and she didn't feel good about that. "I can't deny it. I'm falling in love with you... again," she revealed, through tears.
Will visited Mia and asked what time he should pick her up for the dance. Chad called her cell and asked the same question. She hung up with Chad, then tried to get out of going with Will, but couldn't go through with it. Will went to fetch hot chocolate.... Tad came by to pick up his phone at Maggie's. Mia was distracted, then explained that she said yes to both Will and Chad for the dance. He advised her to call Chad and cancel on him because she was going with Will.... Will ran into Gabi while she was Christmas shopping. He told her about the dance that night and that he was taking Mia.... Chad came upon Gabi on the pier and urged her to go to the dance. He said she could hang with him and Mia. She asked if Chad planned to hang with Mia and Will. He was confused. "Isn't he taking Mia to the dance?" she asked. He said no, so she said she must have misunderstood and hurried off.... Will returned to Maggie's house with the hot chocolate. Mia was about to tell him what happened. Chad knocked at the door and explained there was some confusion about that evening. He asked Mia to clarify.
Brady and Arianna had sex. After, he went to take a shower. There was a knock at the door: It was EJ. She said it wasn't a good time. He asked why she went to Cleveland and wondered if she knew more than she was letting on. They got in an argument. EJ accused her of stealing Sydney. She told him he was crazy. She tried to kick him out; Brady came in while they were fighting. Arianna defended herself and explained how she wound up in Cleveland. EJ apologized.... Gabi went back to the Pub, where Ari revealed she had a big gift planned for Brady but needed her sister's help to pull it off. She wanted to make a Rodriguez family homemade favorite.
Chloe visited Nicole, who was desperate for a Sydney update. They caught up, then Chloe promised she'd be back. She said she would talk to Brady again about visiting. Brady did visit Nicole, who was thrilled to see him. She admitted she never thought she'd see him again. She begged him to never stop searching for Syd. He said he wouldn't.
Rafe told Sami about his jail visit with Stefano and revealed that he gave the Phoenix truth serum and that he doesn't have Sydney. Sami began to cry, wondering how someone could be so evil as to take her baby. Rafe told her that Nicole recalled seeing distinctive boots and they were following up on them. Sami noted it wasn't much to go on. EJ called and asked Sami and Rafe to come to the mansion. He suggested they go public and offer a reward. Rafe got a call while they were all together that the boots Nicole recalled seeing were only sold to one woman in Salem, one Sami and EJ knew well.
In the cabin, Anna DiMera took care of Sydney. She told the baby her uncle Tony would have loved her and showed a photo of him. She was happy that Sydney would never know what it would mean to be a DiMera. She also promised to make everyone suffer more than they were already. She then made a ransom note.
Tuesday
Hope chatted on the phone with Alice. Lexie arrived and sensed something was wrong. Hope was nervous about having Christmas at her house, because of her problems with Bo. She went on about Carly staking a claim on Bo and how she didn't buy her victim act. Lexie told Hope that Carly had an enemy out there and filled her in on the corpse incident. Hope asked who Carly called afterward. "Bo," said Lexie.
Bo told Carly not to go, after she confessed she was falling in love with him. He started rambling about Vivian and the corpse she'd left in the hospital bed. Carly realized Bo didn't want to talk about what she'd said and suggested they pretend it didn't happen. She apologized for putting Bo in this position. Bo said he should have been more careful when she arrived in town. They had a lot of memories and feelings between them. When Hope arrived, Carly made her excuses and left. Hope told Bo she was there to talk about Christmas. The family thought it should be at their house. "I think that they think it'll bring us back together," sighed Hope. Bo wondered if that's what Hope wanted. Hope did, if they could solve their problems. Bo suggested they host Christmas, knowing it might not change anything but hoping it would. Hope agreed and left. Bo called Carly and left a message for her to call him, because they weren't finished.
At the jail, Stefano instructed Kate to contact Marco about finding Sydney and tell him they were looking for a woman. Rafe told Sami and EJ that someone in Salem bought the boots Nicole saw: Kate! Sami said Kate still had it out for her. EJ thought taking Sydney was Kate's way of getting even with Stefano for blackmailing her into marriage. Kate returned and Sami went ballistic, demanding she tell her where Sydney was. Kate swore she hadn't a clue. Sami attacked her. Stefano walked in and asked what was going on. EJ announced they had proof Kate took Sydney and explained about the boots. Kate admitted she'd bought them, but returned them and produced the receipt. Stefano apologized to Kate for EJ's behavior, then got a call from Lexie, saying they wouldn't be there for Christmas. Kate doubted her sons would be there either. Stefano said he was glad he'd be spending the holiday with Kate. She was touched.
Arianna and Gabi made tamales at the pub. Gabi told Arianna she was leaving town in the morning to go home, since there wasn't much for her in Salem. She noted that everyone was going to the big dance tonight, but she wasn't about to attend without a date. Arianna ran out of corn husks and sent Gabi off to buy some. Later, Ariannna chatted with EJ. He told her about the lead on Sydney that turned out to be a dead end. Arianna thought if the person who took Sydney saw the look in EJ's eyes, they would give her back. That gave EJ an idea.
Will confronted Mia about Chad's accusation that she'd agreed to go to the dance with both of them. Mia swore Chad misunderstood. Chad got angry and left. When Will asked Mia who she really wanted to go to the dance with, Mia swore it was Will. Maggie arrived, and Will left. Mia filled Maggie in her double date fiasco. Meanwhile, Chad ran into Gabi and invited her to the dance. Gabi accepted, then returned to the pub and told Arianna she was going to the dance. She had a date, but nothing to wear. Arianna offered her a dress, but Gabi hated it. Will arrived to pick up Mia, who wondered if Chad would be at the dance. Chad showed up at the pub to pick up Gabi.
Later, at Sami's townhouse, Rafe apologized for telling her about Kate before he was absolutely sure she was guilty. Sami asked Rafe if he still had faith they'd get Sydney back. He swore he did. EJ arrived with an idea: He wanted to have a Christmas vigil to show how many people loved Sydney. Sami was all for it.
Anna talked aloud to Tony about how sweet Sydney was and how she was going to make sure she didn't grow up in the same hell he did. She worked on a ransom note and took a picture of Sydney. The phone rang and Anna answered it. "Oh my God! It's you," she gasped.
Wednesday
Brady visited Nicole in her cell. He filled her in on the latest on Sydney's disappearance: the boot lead that didn't pan out and upcoming candlelight vigil EJ and Sami were planning. Nicole wished she could be there. A public defender approached Nicole's cell, noting she might be able to arrange her release, since Nicole only stole a pair of earrings. "I didn't shoplift. I switched two babies," explained Nicole. The lawyer realized her mistake and chuckled that Nicole would probably be locked up for decades. Brady scolded the lawyer, fired her, and promised to get Nicole a new one. Nicole swore she'd stay in jail forever, if it meant Sydney could come home. Alone, Nicole thought about Sydney; then, realized she recognized the voice of the woman who took her.
Anna received a phone call from Roman. He invited her to the Horton celebration. Anna declined. Roman didn't want her to be alone. Anna said she wouldn't be alone, she still had Tony in spirit. Later, Anna told Tony she imagined he wouldn't approve of what she was doing, but she had to: Stefano took the person she loved most away, so she took Sydney.
Melanie chatted on the phone with Max, who told her she was invited to Caroline's Christmas party. She told Philip about the call and that she declined so they could have their "un-Christmas anti-celebration." Philip wondered if Melanie was having second thoughts. Melanie wondered if he was. Philip assured her he wasn't. The pair were about to head to the Java Caf before going to the airport to leave on their tropical vacation, when Philip got a call. Melanie headed off alone and Philip ended up meeting Justin, who offered him football tickets. Philip said he was headed out of town, but sensed something was wrong. Justin admitted Adrienne didn't want him home for Christmas and their divorce was going through, but assured he'd be fine.
Nathan and Stephanie discussed going to Christmas Eve mass together and how it wasn't a date. The twosome discussed their relationship and agreed they were friends. Steph went to get coffee and ended up dropping her purse. She looked up to see mistletoe. Nathan gave her a kiss on the cheek. Melanie interrupted and went on about them having a romantic Christmas. Steph asked if that bothered Melanie. Melanie insisted it didn't and told her she and Philip were headed to a tropical island. Later, Philip led Melanie into a hotel room. She removed her blindfold to find the room all decorated for Christmas. Melanie was thrilled. Philip asked Melanie if she thought they could have a good time there. "That depends if we decide to be naughty or nice," she cooed. Philip told Melanie Christmas wasn't so bad, if you were with someone you love. Then, he asked Melanie to marry him.
Will and Mia joined Kinsey and T at the pub. Chad told Mia she looked great and that he was waiting for his date, Gabi. Upstairs, Gabi complained to Arianna about her dress. Arianna suggested they go back to making tamales, if Gabi wasn't going to the dance. Then, she asked Gabi to give her a few minutes to come up with a way to fix her dress. T needled Will about Mia agreeing to be his and Chad's date. Chad told Mia how he ended up asking Gabi to the dance. Mia was glad things worked out. Chad asked Mia to save a dance for him. Gabi emerged looking fabulous. Everyone turned to leave. Will told Mia they needed to talk. Brady arrived, while chatting on the phone with Nicole's potential new lawyer. He found Arianna and said he had something to tell her, but because she was in such a good mood, he decided against it. Will accused Mia of lying to him and knowing that Chad thought he had a date with her. Mia said she only lied because she was afraid Will would be mad at her. "If you don't want to go with me, I'd understand," sighed Mia. Will still wanted to, but had to call his mom first. Mia headed outside. Gabi was there telling Chad that she didn't know how to dance. Chad said he'd gone to dancing school and would teach her. Mia watched as the pair slow danced.
Thursday
Stefano asked EJ about the vigil, but EJ didn't want his father to come and stormed out. Stefano lamented to Kate that EJ didn't know how much he needed his dad. Stefano called Anna to wish her a Merry Christmas. He said he had been thinking about Anthony and invited her to the mansion to celebrate the holiday with them. "I would really like you to still be part of this family," he explained. She told him to drop dead.
Carly and Rafe ran into each other on the pier for the first time since they were on the boat together and caught up.
Sami and Hope met up at Java. Hope gave Sami some advice about how to deal with a kidnapped child. After, Sami visited Nicole in jail. Nicole told her about hearing the voice of the woman who took Sydney and that it sounded familiar.
Doug and Julie went to the Brady house, where Bo greeted them. Julie pushed Bo to reconcile with Hope, pointing out that there were children involved and they needed to work on their marriage. Hope came in and was thrilled to see her dad and Julie. Maggie also arrived. Doug told Julie to cool it with pressuring Bo and Hope to get back together. Lucas, Allie and Will came in to hang the ornaments on the tree. Nathan picked up Stephanie at Maggie's house and kissed her. They headed to Bo and Hope's for the tree trimming party. Everyone hung their balls on the tree. Hope and Bo put Zack's on and Hope recalled the aftermath of their son's death. Bo went outside. Hope followed him out but they had an awkward exchange which became too much for him and he took off. She dissolved in tears.
Melanie reeled from Philip's proposal. She thought it was fast but ultimately said yes. "Merry Christmas, future Mrs. Kiriakis," he said. "Merry Christmas," she replied.
While Brady was with Arianna, he got a call from Nicole's lawyer. Ari was dismayed that Brady was footing the bill for her legal representation. They argued. He went home and opened a special gift from her at the Kiriakis mansion.
Sami met Rafe at the candlelight vigil. She told him about Nicole's memory of the kidnapper's voice. EJ came upon them and Sami told him about Nicole. He believed she was stringing them along. Abe started the vigil. Sami and EJ made an on-air plea for any information about their child. Everyone then joined hands for a silent prayer.... Hope spied Bo give Carly a look.... Nicole prayed for Sydney's safe return... Brady and Arianna made up.... At the cabin, Anna told Sydney they were going to Salem "to do what has to be done."

Friday
Christmas Day arrived in Salem as Sami and the Brady family prayed for the safe return of her daughter, Sydney. Rafe was hopeful when he received a promising tip prompted by the Christmas Eve vigil.
EJ informed Stefano that Johnny would be living with Sami as long as Stefano resided at the DiMera mansion. EJ headed to Sami’s townhouse to spend Christmas morning with his son. Although tension was high between Rafe and EJ, Sami and EJ shared a close moment. Later, Sami was devastated to learn the lead Rafe got ended up being a dead end. When EJ returned to the mansion, he received a note from the kidnapper, saying “I have your daughter.” Meanwhile, the mystery woman and Sydney celebrated the holiday together.
Philip and Melanie shared a happy morning together; however, it was interrupted when she was called in to work. At the hospital Stephanie and Nathan worked together to arrange the annual Christmas party for the sick children. Nathan invited Stephanie to be his New Year’s Eve date. Theo, Lexie, and Abe attended the festivities and shared a nice family moment. Stephanie and Maggie convinced Nathan to read the Christmas story to the kids just like his great grandfather Tom Horton used to do years ago. Maggie fondly remembered memories of Tom at Christmases past. While Nathan read to the sick children, he noticed the engagement ring on Melanie’s finger.
Arianna, Brady, Daniel, and Chloe spent time together getting into the holiday spirit. Meanwhile, Dysfunction abounded at the Kiriakis celebration. When Daniel and Chloe arrived, Vivian started sniping at Chloe much to Victor’s delight. Victor proceeded to Daniel all about Brady’s new girlfriend the drug dealer. As everyone got into the festivities, Philip showed up. Turned out he’d invited Kate and Stefano over, because he had a major announcement to make. Then, Philip dropped the bombshell: he and Melanie are engaged. Vivian ran to congratulate him, while Kate and Victor were reluctantly forced to rise to the occasion and join in on a toast.
