DAYS Week of December 14, 2009
Monday
Daniel and Carly had a warm reunion at the hospital. She told Daniel she was interviewing for a job. Daniel asked Justin if Carly was the doctor Justin was referring to in their conversation. Carly demanded to know what Justin said about her, but Justin said it was a moot point since she and Daniel were pals. Daniel explained that Carly had introduced him to his late wife, Rebecca, plus he thought she was a great doctor. Justin took a call and Carly and Daniel caught up. After, Justin came back and Carly demanded an apology from him for trashing her. He said he felt he was doing the right thing. They faced off over Bo and Hope. Justin said he wanted her to leave Salem. Not happening, replied Carly.
Chloe visited Nicole in jail. "Nice hair," she smirked. She asked Nicole what was so urgent. Nic begged for an update on Sydney. "I'm going insane," Nicole explained. "So are Sami and EJ," Chloe countered. They discussed EJ and Sami. Nicole apologized for everything that went down with her lies about Sydney. Nicole then asked Chloe for a favor. After Chloe left, Nicole had a memory flash of a woman taking Sydney.
Bo visited Stefano to ask about Sydney, but the Phoenix was outraged that Bo would even imply that he had anything to do with his granddaughter's disappearance. "I would move heaven and earth to find that child. She means the world to me," he declared. Nevertheless, Bo told him he was their No. 1 suspect. Stefano noted that they wouldn't find the baby without his help. Bo asked why. Stef pointed out that he has resources far beyond the Salem PD.
Gabi asked Arianna about Sami. Ari explained that their brother loved her very much. Gabi pushed her sister to reconcile with Brady.
EJ and Sami plotted to get Stefano to admit he took Sydney. Rafe came in and thought it would be a good idea for Sami to try and provoke Stefano while wearing a wire. EJ didn't like the idea. Rafe thought it was because EJ didn't want to betray his dad. Quite the contrary, replied EJ, explaining that he was more worried about Sami's well-being. Rafe wired Sami and the trio headed out to the DiMera manse. Sami entered the living room. Stefano was not thrilled to see her. Sami demanded her daughter back. Stefano insisted he didn't have her and kicked Sami out. She refused to go. They fought.
Justin and Bo met at the Java Caf. Justin wanted to discuss Carly, but Bo wasn't interested. Justin declared that Carly was only in town to destroy Bo's marriage. Bo insisted that wasn't true and took off.... Daniel called Chloe to tell her that her application was well-received and it looked like she'd get the open position at the hospital. Bo ran into her on the pier. He told her about his conversation with Justin. She told him not to believe anything Justin said.
Tuesday
Bo ran into Carly on the pier. He said he had just seen Justin. She insisted everything Justin said wasn't true. She told him how Justin didn't want her in Salem but she needed to be there for her daughter. Bo thought maybe Justin was on to something because it was clear Carly's daughter hated her. Carly said that she just wanted to take care and love the girl. They headed back to the Brady house, where she packed the last of her things. She dropped them and Bo spied the Mayan wedding scroll from their Mexican "nups." He was surprised she kept it all these years. She admitted she couldn't throw it away. Cue the flashback.
At the Kiriakis mansion, Hope saw Vivian and sneaked into the living room, where she caught Ciara shaking Christmas gifts. She gave Ciara a gift for Vivian, whom she pretended she didn't know was home. Hope told Ciara to try on her costume for the Christmas pageant, so the little girl ran off. Hope and Vivian chatted. Vivian made reference to Hope's marital problems. Hope asked why it was her business. Viv explained that she wanted Victor to have a merry Christmas and if Hope and Ciara were going to be sad because they were away from Bo, she wasn't interested. Hope said it wouldn't happen. Viv asked why their marriage was having trouble. Hope said it was because of the kidnapping — and Carly. Vivian "admitted" she wasn't a fan of Carly and offered to help Hope if she ever needed it. Hope thanked her; they hugged awkwardly.
Justin left Hope a message, asking him to call her regarding Carly. Maggie ran into Justin at the Java Café and said she thought Carly working at University Hospital was a huge mistake because it was clear Carly had feelings for Bo.... Hope joined Justin at Java and he told her about Carly's new job.
Troy stopped Arianna outside of the Brady Pub and told her his supplier was having problems and there wouldn't be a shipment.
Chloe found Brady at the Pub and said Nicole needed his help and wanted Brady to visit her. Brady said he couldn't be sucked into Nicole's life anymore, though he did have feelings for her and was "addicted" to her. Arianna overheard and was upset. Brady told her he loved her. They talked about her meeting with Troy. She thought she had a way to meet the big boss.
Nicole called out from her jail cell. Roman came in and asked what was going on. Nicole said she knew who took her baby. She told him about her memory flash of a woman talking to Sydney. He didn't believe her. She insisted she wasn't lying. Roman said he'd look into it.... Chloe visited and told Nicole that Brady wasn't coming. Nicole told her about the woman's voice, but Chloe didn't believe her. Nicole told her to leave.
Stefano told Sami she would never know her precious Sydney, thanks to him. She asked if he was admitting he took Sydney. He insisted he didn't take the tot. He then needled her about Rafe and Grace. "You couldn't even keep your pretend daughter alive," he sneered. Rafe, who was listening in, had enough and went inside but the door to the living room was shut. Sami laughed at the Phoenix, saying he was a tired, old joke. He wondered if Sami planned the kidnapping herself. "That is insane," Sami scoffed. They argued more. Stefano admitted he despised her enough to keep her daughter from her. "Just tell us where she is!" Sami yelled. A clever Stefano realized she was wearing a wire and tore open her shirt to reveal it. Rafe and EJ rushed in. Stefano felt the sting of seeing his son there. "Judas!" he exclaimed. Roman arrived; Sami and Rafe told him what happened and said they wanted to press charges. Stefano was arrested for assault. Sami and Rafe returned to the townhouse. He left her there to "check on something," which piqued her curiosity. He went to see Nicole. EJ visited Sami at the townhouse. She apologized for screwing it up with Stefano, but he told her he was proud of her.
Wednesday
Nicole was surprised by Rafe's visit. He asked if she knew where Sydney was, but she insisted that she didn't. "I just want to die because that is what I deserve," she said. He told her she didn't deserve to die. Nicole blamed him for taking Sydney away in the first place. She then pointed out that once Sydney was found, EJ and Sami would grow closer. He accused her of being insecure. She told him about hearing the woman's voice. He said he believed her and asked if she recalled anything else. She didn't at first, then remembered seeing a distinctive pair of boots and called out to Rafe, who had left. He came back and she described the boots in detail.
At the cabin, the mystery woman took care of Sydney.
Melanie and Philip chatted at Java Café. Nathan walked in, which dampened their mood. Melanie headed out to pick up takeout then go home to bake Christmas cookies with Maggie. Nathan called Stephanie and asked her to meet him at the Brady Pub. He wanted to talk about Nathan and Melanie, which annoyed her. She went to leave but he asked her to stay. He wondered about her and Philip. "My least favorite subject," she replied. Mel entered the Pub and approached Steph and Nathan's table. He got a phone call and walked away. Steph boasted to Mel that she and Nathan were spending Christmas together. Mel got upset and left. Nathan asked Steph what she said to her. She told him, explaining that she meant they would be together at Midnight Mass. She admitted she made it sound like more to bother Melanie. He said it was okay, noting they could spend the holiday together since they'd be hanging ornaments together anyway.
Philip showed up at Maggie's while Melanie was decorating cookies. He revealed he had never decorated a cookie in his life. He asked what she was doing for Christmas. She said she wouldn't be at the Hortons or in London with Max, so she'd probably be alone. He asked if she wanted to not celebrate Christmas together. "So you want me to not celebrate Christmas with you?" she asked. "Yeah, we could, I don't know, watch un-Christmasy movies like The Exorcist," he said. She agreed to his plan.
Troy visited EJ and told him Arianna was going to be a problem. Arianna, meanwhile, was formulating a plan to meet her big boss. She called Troy while he was with EJ and said she wanted to help him with the problem with the drug shipment. He said he would check with his boss. He called her back and told Ari to meet at the pier immediately. She arrived, but was annoyed the big boss wasn't there. EJ lurked in the shadows, then revealed himself as though he happened upon them. He told Troy to beat it, then asked Arianna who that guy was.
Victor and Vivian enjoyed some holiday eggnog at the manse. Kate came in and she and Vivian bickered. Kate said she was heading home, so Vivian asked why she wasn't visiting Stefano in jail. Kate had no idea what she was talking about and didn't believe her. Philip entered while they were arguing. He got annoyed when Kate and Vivian fought over him and took off, saying he wished he didn't have a family. Kate left to go to see Stefano in jail. Victor was upset to see his son so rattled; Vivian assured him everything would be fine. Brady came in to talk to his grandfather. They argued over Arianna.
Kate was upset to see her husband behind bars. He said he had been betrayed by the family.
Thursday
At the townhouse, Rafe quickly hung up the phone when Sami came in the room. She asked if there was anything new to tell her. He said no. She took off to see Will. When she left, Rafe got back on the phone and told someone to come over. It was Abe. Rafe told him about his conversation with Nicole and how she recalled that the woman who swiped Sydney was wearing distinctive boots. Rafe felt Stefano was mixed up in it all. Abe said it was possible.
At the remote cabin, the woman who swiped Sydney hung a wreath on the door. She then fell off the step-ladder. The door was open, so the temperature in the cabin began to drop. She came to and was alarmed by the chill.
Brady and Victor faced off over Arianna at the Kiriakis mansion. Brady also needled his grandfather for having been involved in the drug trade, too. He then declared that he was determined to get the drugs out of Salem. Victor warned him that it could hurt Arianna in the end.
On the pier, EJ asked if Arianna was okay after her encounter with Troy. She insisted she was fine and lied that Troy was a supplier for the Pub. EJ asked what he supplied. "Seafood," she replied. "For the chowder." He still didn't believe her. He turned serious and said he tracked her down to thank her for coming to Cleveland to look for Sydney. He then got a call and hoped it was about Sydney, but there was no news. He asked Ari if she knew if Rafe was following up on leads of his own. She was reluctant to respond but he implored her to tell him. She put his hand on his, just as Brady appeared. She assured him that Rafe wouldn't keep something like that from him. Brady walked over and told EJ to ask Rafe or the cops if he wanted information. EJ took off. Ari was annoyed that Brady "came to her rescue." They decided not to argue about EJ, though Brady told her he was dangerous. Brady recounted his chat with Vic. "I think you may be working for someone who is a lot more dangerous than Victor," Brady warned.
Kinsey, Mia and Tad studied poetry together in Maggie's kitchen. Kinsey noted that Mia was depressed and they should do some "ironic" caroling to life her spirits. Mia said it wouldn't help and walked outside. "That girl is on my last nerve," Kinsey huffed. "I wouldn't mind if I never heard the word ‘baby' again." Mia came back in and Kinsey apologized for upsetting her. The kids left. Maggie came home. She asked how Mia was doing and gave her a reassuring pep talk that things would get better. "What if I don't want it to?" Mia queried, explaining that it made her feel like she had forgotten her baby if she laughed or made a joke. Maggie understood, saying the same thing happened to her when she lost her daughter years ago. Maggie gently explained that Grace would want Mia to be happy.
Gabi went to the Java Café, where Chad was on duty. She spied a MISSING photo of Sydney and Nicole. He saw her looking at it and they struck up a conversation. He told her she should come to the dance. Mia came in while they were chatting. He introduced the girls. Gabi left. Mia lamented that nobody understood what she and Chad were going through. She told him about her conversation with Maggie. He suggested Mia go with him to the dance. She said it could be fun. "Great, then it's a date," he enthused.
Sami met Will outside of the Pub. He wanted to cancel on Mia for the dance because Sydney was missing, but Sami urged him to go. They sat down inside and discussed the Mia situation further. Sami told him he needed to have fun and he wasn't betraying Sydney to do it. Abe came in so Will took off. Abe asked Sami how she was holding up. "Running on empty," she admitted. He gave her a hug and told her it would be okay. Will went to Maggie's to see Mia. He talked about the dance with Maggie. Maggie said she told Mia that it was time for her to have some fun.
Sami returned home to find Rafe had decorated the townhouse for Christmas, stockings by the fire and all. "I have a surprise for you," he said. "You found Sydney?" she asked excitedly. He apologized for giving her false hope; she said she was sorry that she ruined the nice thing he had done for her and her kids. He gave her a special gift. She was thrilled and they had sex.
EJ got a call that Nicole had a memory of hearing a woman's voice in Cleveland before Sydney disappeared... Rafe left a message for Roman saying his bureau contact in Cleveland reported that the boot prints from the bus station matched the ones Nicole described and that Nic's memory was for real. He hoped surveillance tapes would show more so they could get Sydney back by the morning.
Friday
Hope went home to put presents under the tree. Bo found her there. "All I want for Christmas is you and Ciara home," he said. "Well, that's up to you," Hope replied. Cue the same argument they've had for the past two months. They then sat on the couch and tried to talk things out calmly. She admitted that Carly's secret was upsetting her. She implored him to tell her that he and Carly didn't have a baby together. "You really think that?" he asked, then informed her that the secret was Carly's and had nothing to do with him or Hope. She asked if she was just supposed to trust him. Yes, he replied. They butted heads, then she kissed him and told him that she loved him. "And I love you... But apparently that's not enough for you," he said. "No, no it's not," she admitted. He took off and went upstairs. Hope grabbed her coat and dropped a picture frame that Ciara made that said, "My Family." A tormented Bo came down the stairs, but his wife was already gone.
Vivian read her tarot cards at the Kiriakis manse. Henderson brought in flowers for her. She pulled a card that she found intriguing.
At the hospital, Lexie welcomed Carly back to the staff. Nurse Maxine told Melanie to introduce herself to the new attending. It was Carly. Gulp, thought Melanie. She introduced herself to Carly as "Nurse Layton" and apologized for not letting her live in Maggie's house. Carly said it was probably for the best. Vivian came in carrying the enormous bouquet of flowers and joined Melanie and Carly. Melanie scurried away. Vivian told Carly the flowers were a gift from her and Victor to welcome her back to the hospital. Lexie came over and was surprised to see Vivian. Carly left to tend to a patient.
On the pier, Arianna and Brady fought over EJ and Nicole. He warned her that she could not handle the DiMeras. She admitted that she felt for EJ and his pain over Sydney. She then added that he told her he tracked her down to talk earlier. Brady was furious. She urged him to let it go, but Brady said he would make EJ pay. Melanie happened upon them and agreed that EJ was a jerk. Brady took off. Melanie told Ari that EJ was poison and she shouldn't let him get in the way of her and EJ. Ari went to the K mansion. Brady answered the door and asked if she was collecting for the EJ DiMera defense fund. "That's very funny," she said, then pulled him out of the house and they went to her bedroom at the Pub. She pushed him on the bed and they had sex.
Melanie went to the Java Café and sat with Vivian. They discussed Christmas. Melanie revealed that she and Philip were spending Christmas alone together. Vivian was impressed, then asked how long Melanie had worked with Carly. Only that night, Mel replied.... Carly went into her patient's room and found a dead body in the bed and the patient she previously tended to missing. The corpse had baby's breath in her hair and Carly realized it wasn't an accident.
EJ visited Nicole in jail. She asked if they had found Sydney. He told her no, then demanded to know who Stefano was working with. A woman, Nicole replied. "Yeah, you," EJ spat. Nicole insisted she wasn't working with Stefano. EJ pushed her to admit what she knew. She asked him to leave. They argued. Nicole pointed out that Stefano loves Sydney and wouldn't let her be harmed.
Rafe's FBI contact called him and they met at the Brady Pub. Tim handed him a vial that contained a "highly-effective" drug that left no trace in the bloodstream.... In jail, Stefano asked for water. The guard handed it to him, then Rafe arrived. Stefano realized Rafe put something in the water. Rafe told him it was a truth serum. "You're a sneaky bastard," Stefano declared. As the serum took effect, Rafe teased the Phoenix. "What do you say we have a few warm-up questions? Rafe said, then asked if Stefano tried to kill him. "No," DiMera replied. "To split hair. Did you pay someone to kill me?" Rafe asked. "Oh yes," Stefano laughed. "I did." He then turned the conversation to Sydney's disappearance. Rafe asked point-blank if Stefano took the baby. Stefano didn't respond at first, then insisted, "No, I did not." Rafe asked if a woman was working for him and Stefano said no. EJ overheard the Q&A. Rafe noted that his father was telling the truth.
At the cabin, the mystery woman took care of Sydney. It's Anna DiMera!
