Sami arrived at the cop shop and heard an angry Rafe on the phone, trying to figure out where Anna was. He asked what Sami was doing there. She explained that she and Will had a discussion and that she realized Rafe was right and Stefano is up to something. Rafe revealed that Stefano told him EJ doesn't trust Sami with the kids. Sami defended EJ. They argued. Rafe pointed out that EJ didn't just want Sami's kids — he wanted Sami. Sami nearly slipped and asked if Rafe saw something. He said he didn't. She admitted she came across EJ on the pier and worried he was dead. She added that she cared about EJ. He urged her to be honest with herself and asked if EJ made a move on her. She insisted she didn't have feelings for EJ. She flashed back to kissing her ex on the pier but explained she was considering the move chez DiMera for Sydney and Johnny's sake — and Will's. Rafe got a call. He told Sami he had to leave town. She wished him a unconvincing bon voyage and left. After Sami left, Rafe talked to another officer, happy that they had finally tracked Anna for real.

Stefano assured Sydney her father would be fine. He vowed to make whoever attacked EJ pay.... Kate flashed back to her fight with Madeline. Stefano found her looking off into the distance and she told him they had a problem. Stefano gave her a drink to calm her. She explained that Madeline threatened her.

Mia needled Will at Java Café and warned him not to trust Chad. At another table, Chad chatted with his mother. Mia approached Chad's mom holding a bouquet of flowers and said she was bringing them to Grace's grave. She asked Madeline to join her. The judge was busy, which annoyed Mia. The teen accused Madeline of being thrilled that she and Chad had split. Madeline didn't want a scene and asked if they could talk outside. Will approached Chad after and asked what that was about. Chad didn't know, but said if Mia was messing with his mom, it was the wrong move. Outside, Mia freaked out on Madeline, pointing out that she would never be good enough for Chad in his mother's eyes.... Mia returned to the coffeehouse. She asked a new guy working there there to kiss her, then slapped him. "What was that for?" the boy asked. "It was for our benefit," Will explained, noting that Mia wanted to make him and Chad jealous. Mia clarified that she only wanted to make Chad jealous.

Stefano and Madeline met up on the pier. He told her it was a big mistake that she came over and threatened Kate. She warned him that if he ever revealed what happened in the past, he would be the one to suffer.... Back at the mansion, Kate imagined blood on her hands and freaked out. Will came in and asked if she was okay. She said she was. She suggested he not spend so much time with Chad. Will asked what was going on.

Dr. Baker approached Hope on the pier, but she didn't recognize him. When another cop appeared, the doc scurried off. The cop asked who Baker was, but Hope had no idea. The cop revealed that money had been taken from EJ's account via his bank card, but the perp did a good job of covering his tracks. Hope realized she had to tell EJ to freeze his accounts. An eavesdropping Baker panicked.

At the hospital, Nicole continued her interview with EJ. He told her that he thought the person who attacked him was an associate of hers. She denied it. "You're not going to get away with it, Nicole. Not this time," he warned. Nicole took the tape of EJ's interview and unspooled it. She told Arianna to leave and EJ told Ari it was okay. Once alone, Nicole insisted she didn't do anything. Hope entered to interview EJ. She asked Nicole to go. Hope told EJ about the money. He already knew and wasn't concerned. She wondered if money was the motive. Hope added that he was hit with a gun like the one she had in her holster. EJ reiterated his strong feeling that Nic was somehow involved.

In the hallway, Ari ran into Brady, who was there for a board meeting. She revealed that EJ had been attacked and was blaming Nicole. He didn't believe it. They bickered, then Ari went to call her boss and tell him what happened with Nicole. Nic came out of EJ's room and bee-lined for Brady. He asked if she had anything to do with the mugging. She said no, explaining that she was scared she would go back to prison. She hugged him. Ari spied it. Brady tried to calm Nicole down, but she was spooked. He pointed out that it wasn't a great idea that she returned to Salem. She took off. Ari approached, pleased that Brady turned Nicole away.

Hope and Nicole waited for the elevator together. Hope pointed out that EJ's attack was personal and vicious, then asked where Nicole was the night before. Nic didn't want to respond, so Hope brought her down to the station.... In his motel room, Baker packed to leave Salem.... Sami visited EJ and brought him a milkshake. He noted that she sounded nervous. She said she was just worried about him. He said he was lucky she showed up when she did and asked if she had made a decision about moving in.
