DAYS Week of April 19, 2010
Monday
Melanie comforted Nathan in the locker room after they lost a patient, Mrs. Martin, who was important to the hospital. Nurse Maxine told Lexie and Stephanie about the loss. They entered the locker room just as Nathan was about to tell Mel something important. Steph excused herself. Lexie had some "tough questions" to ask about the death. Mrs. Martin's daughter arrived, so Nathan went to talk to her. Nate later admitted to Melanie that he was thinking about her, not their patient, when he walked in the room earlier. They wanted to talk it out more, but Stephanie approached.
A cop told Hope that Ciara's school called because Ciara had forgotten her lunch again. A rattled Hope said she'd figure it out. Abe approached her and told her that Roman had re-interviewed the DA, who admitted that he never saw Rafe attack him. Hope got so upset that she spilled her coffee. Abe asked to speak to her privately. She worried he was pulling her from the case. He tried to calm her down, but pointed out that she was too stressed. He noted that the mugger attacked at night and asked if she wanted to be home with Ciara then. While they were talking, Adrienne came in. Abe asked how Justin was doing, but Hope piped in that she had just spoken to him and he was doing better. Abe left. Adrienne asked why Hope was checking in on Justin. Hope explained that she cared about her friend. Hope wanted to question her about the mugging. Justin entered during it. Hope excused herself. Justin and Adrienne noted that she seemed very stressed out. Adrienne asked if they could go somewhere to talk privately. They headed to the Cheatin' Heart, where Adrienne revealed she had a buyer for the bar. The buyer wanted to change the name of the bar, though, and she was feeling sentimental about it. He asked if that was the real reason he wanted to talk to her. She said no, then admitted that despite the way she was brought back to Salem, she was happy she came because it gave her some clarity about their relationship. "I guess there's really nothing left to do except find a way to move forward," Adrienne said.
Hope went home and took a pill. Ciara came in. Hope apologized that she was late and took Ciara upstairs for a bath.... Later, Hope returned to the house and found Ciara up and waiting for her. Hope asked Ciara why she was still awake. Ciara explained that she was scared because Hope was gone. Hope said that she had forgotten her cell phone and had to out to get it. Ciara told her that she missed her father — and Justin. Hope hoped they could change that. "Maybe someday, uncle Justin can be your new daddy," she smiled.
Rafe confronted EJ on the pier about his reconciliation with Stefano. They also faced off over Samantha. Rafe vowed that EJ would never hurt her again. Rafe's phone rang and he learned that Anna was found. He told EJ where she was, adding, "Or did you already know that?"
At the DiMera mansion, Stefano talked to Sami. He thanked her for letting him see the grandkids and asked for a truce. She refused. An argument ensued. She told him his visits with the kids were over. In his exasperation, he nearly revealed that EJ loved her, but stopped himself. He apologized for losing his temper. She decided to leave, but couldn't find Johnny's stuffed penguin. Kate came in and told her Mary found the toy. Sami stormed out. She went to the station, where she ran into Rafe. He told her he was about to call her. "Why? You're pissed at me," she replied. He revealed that Anna was in custody. He also noted that EJ seemed a little rattled by the news. Rafe's cell phone rang: It turned out it wasn't Anna in custody. "It was a set up.... They're not going to stop me," he insisted.
Back at the manse, Stefano told Kate how EJ admitted he's in love with Sami. Stefano was annoyed about it. EJ entered and said he needed to speak to Stefano alone. He physically ushered Kate out. He told his father that Anna was found and in custody. EJ was panicked. Stefano revealed it wasn't true and said that he wanted to send Rafe on a wild-goose chase.
Lexie went home along the pier and found her husband, unconscious, on the ground.
Tuesday
Hope entered the living room to find Ciara getting ready for school. Hope saw her putting a wedding magazine in her bag for show and tell and asked why she was taking it to school. "Because I thought you were getting married again," Ciara told her. Hope was shocked and asked Ciara what she was talking about. Ciara explained that she was referring to Hope's comment that Justin was going to be her new daddy. "I never said that," Hope told her, but Ciara recalled her saying that the night before. "You said it, Mommy. I remember," Ciara declared. She insisted she wasn't lying and ran out. Hope then got a call that Abe had been mugged and hurried to the hospital. She found him with Lexie and apologized for not being there earlier. Abe asked to speak to Hope alone. He gave her his account of what happened the night before. He then asked her if she was doing okay. She admitted Ciara was having a difficult time. Lexie and Theo came in, so Hope left and chatted with Lexie outside.
At the hospital, Carly found Daniel rubbing his eyes. She assured him he'd be okay. He wasn't so sure. She told him she has a friend who is a vision specialist and developed a laser technique to correct double vision. She said the doc would be in Chicago and could come to Salem to do the surgery. Daniel thanked her for being a good friend. "I'm more than a good friend, Daniel," she replied. He asked what she meant. She explained that she was also the mother of his child.
Hope overheard Carly on the phone with Bo. It was awkward. After Carly hung up, Hope questioned her about the attacks. Hope's pen ran out of ink, so Carly gave Hope hers. Carly told Hope that Bo and Kim were doing well and said she didn't mean for Hope to hear them talking. Hope's phone rang. It was about Ciara. She ran out. Back at the manse, Hope told Ciara that her teacher called to tell Hope that Ciara stole reward stickers out of her desk. "You think everything I do is bad," Ciara pouted. Hope gave her a time out and told her to go to her room. "I want my daddy," Ciara cried, then walked out.
Chloe strolled along the pier with Nicole. Chloe was down in the dumps over Carly and complained about her. Vivian overheard. The women headed to the Brady Pub, where Nicole told Chloe about Philip's job offer. She wondered if Brady was behind it. Chloe said she didn't know. The conversation turned back to Carly. Nicole advised Chloe to watch her back and suggested she bring her "A" game to hold onto Daniel. Vivian met Gus outside of the Pub. She revealed that she wanted to use someone else to get to Carly and looked right at Chloe. She went inside and listened in on Chloe and Nicole's talk. "I wish Carly Manning would drop off the face of the earth," Chloe exclaimed. "Well, why haven't you told me that?" Daniel, who had entered unseen, asked. Gulp. Nicole excused herself. Daniel accused Chloe of letting Nicole influence her about Carly. Chloe insisted it wasn't true. She told Daniel he couldn't see that Carly was the problem. He explained that it upset him to hear her saying things about Carly to other people and not him. She replied that she couldn't talk to him about Dr. M. They continued to argue. She asked if something was going on with Carly. He was stunned. "I thought at the very least you trusted me," he told her. He stormed out. Vivian swooped in and put a hand on Chloe's shoulder.
Arianna arrived at the Kiriakis manse to meet Brady. Victor answered the door and invited her to stay and chat since Brady was running late at a meeting. He asked her how she liked her new job working for him. She assured him she would work hard for Philip, who ran the station, but wouldn't answer to Vic. He noted that her feistiness would help her when she went head to head with Nicole over Brady. Arianna said it wouldn't happen. Ari left.... Hope came downstairs. Victor asked why she was home in the middle of the day. She told him about Ciara. He asked her about Abe's mugging. She wondered how he knew about it. He said he knew everything that went on in Salem.... Ciara returned to Hope's room and said she wanted her time out to be over, but Hope wasn't there. The little girl spied Hope's shoe on the floor and tried it on. She then looked under Hope's bed and found a box. She looked inside. "I think my mommy has a secret," she whispered to her teddy bear.
Nicole got a tip that the Mayor had been attacked. She called it into the station and asked to have a crew to meet her at the cop shop. She also asked for a PA to get her coffee. Nic arrived at the police station and asked Abe for an exclusive for WXIR. She told him it would make Brandon (her brother, his son, who is out of town) happy if they worked together. Abe said he was giving a press conference, but Nicole still wanted the first report. The production assistant showed up — it was Arianna. Nicole revealed she was the reporter. Ari realized she'd be working for her rival.
Wednesday
Nicole and Arianna faced off at the station. Abe arrived for the exclusive with Nicole. Ari got the camera and Nic interviewed the mayor about his mugging. She went after him hard. Ari stopped her midway through. The women argued, but Abe agreed to respond to Nic's questions. The taping resumed. After, Gabi called Ari to check in and Ari told her sis about her new co-worker.
Brady ran into Justin on the pier and asked how he was doing after the mugging. Justin told him he was okay. He then asked about Brady and Arianna's upcoming nups. Brady revealed they had been postponed and that it had to do with Nicole. Justin wished him luck. After, Brady went to the Pub, where he overheard Gabi on the phone with Ari and learned that Ari and Nic were working together. After the taping, Nicole and Arianna bickered. Brady came in during their argument. He pointed out to Ari that working with Nicole probably wasn't the best idea. He suggested getting her another job, but she wanted to stay in production.
Ciara looked in the box she found under her mother's bed. When Hope called out for her, she pushed it back under. Hope came in and asked what she was doing. "Nothing," Ciara replied. Hope could tell something was up. She admitted to Ciara that she was worried for her. Ciara said she was concerned about her mom, too. They had a chat, but Ciara was uneasy at the end. After, Hope talked to Justin about Ciara. She was troubled by her daughter's behavior and told him what had been going on. He tried to reassure her that the little girl would be okay. She took a sleeping pill. When she woke up, it was still night, but she was panicked that she was late for something. She got dressed all in black. "Tonight is going to be the night," she smiled and put on her lipstick.
Dr. Yang and Carly discussed Daniel's surgery. Dr. Yang reminded her that it was experimental. Victor overheard them and confronted Carly. She told him about the double vision problem. Daniel came upon them arguing. He told his godfather that he trusted Carly. After, Daniel admitted to Carly that he and Chloe argued over her earlier. Carly was surprised. Daniel explained that that was why he didn't tell Chloe about the surgery. He then left his fiance an apology message.
Vivian approached Chloe in Java after Chloe's argument with Daniel. She sat down at the table to discuss Carly. "You mustn't let her win," Viv warned. Father Matt approached to talk to Carly. Chloe opened up to him about her problems with Daniel and Carly. Viv sat with Gus and filled him in about Chloe and Daniel. Victor called her and told her about Daniel's surgery. She told him about Chloe and Daniel's fight. Back at the other table, Chloe received the message from Daniel — that she played out loud — but the apology part of it was cut off and all she got was that he would be in surgery until late and wouldn't be home. Vivian overheard. Father Matt suggested she go to the hospital to see Daniel before he went into the OR. Viv hurried out with Gus. At University, they found a disgruntled nurse who needed money. Vivian approached him with a smile and introduced herself.
In the OR, Carly prepped Daniel. Dr. Yang came in, ready to perform the surgery. Carly promised to be there for Daniel. He vowed to make everything right with Chloe when he got out. Chloe arrived at the hospital and asked the nurse to give Daniel a message when he got out of surgery. He revealed that Daniel wasn't doing surgery that night. He then sighed and decided to "be honest" with Chloe. He "reluctantly" told her Daniel was with Carly — and they left together. A pleased Vivian listened in.
At the Kiriakis manse, Justin and Victor discussed Bo and Hope. After, Justin went to check on her...
Thursday
Hope put on her lipstick, took her gun from the drawer and smiled. She put her coat on, ready to head out, but Justin was on the other side of the door. She didn't open it. He asked if she was okay. She insisted she was fine. He said he'd be downstairs working with Victor if she needed anything. She slipped out, then made a phone call asking if it was "on" and said she was on her way. She went to a poker game and won the pot. The men she was playing with weren't thrilled — including the very much alive Dr. Richard Baker. He asked her to have a drink to make up for his bad night. They went into the alley, where she counted all of her money.
Philip went to Java to get a coffee. He had a meeting to get to, but canceled because he wanted to be with Melanie. At Maggie's, Melanie grabbed her coat and purse, ready to leave, but Nathan was at the door. He wanted to talk to her. He told her that he still cared about her and knew she cared about him, too. He asked how she felt about them. She finally confessed what was in the letter she wrote him on her wedding day. He pulled her into his arms and gave her a long, passionate kiss. Too bad Philip came home and spied them through the door. He walked away before he could see Melanie pull away. She told Nathan it was a good-bye kiss.... Philip headed to the Kiriakis manse and grabbed a drink. Justin asked why he wasn't with his wife. "Because I'm an idiot," Philip replied, then drank some more. He didn't want to elaborate. Justin urged him to work it out with his bride. Instead, Philip left and boozed on the pier.... Back at Maggie's, Melanie asked Nathan to leave. She explained that she was committed to Philip and she and Nate were done. She told him they had to move on. He reluctantly agreed. They hugged, then he left.
At the DiMera mansion, EJ looked at photos of Sydney and Johnny and wondered if he could ever be forgiven for what he'd done. He wondered if Sami loved him, too, and decided to find out.... Sami dealt with an unruly Johnny at the townhouse. EJ showed up; she was relieved. He put Johnny to bed. He also lifted her spirits. She explained that Lucas had returned to take Allie to Hong Kong for awhile and she was a little blue. He asked if she missed Rafe. She didn't respond. He asked if Rafe was trying to get back together with her. She said no, because Rafe couldn't forgive her for lying about Sydney's ransom notes. She pointed out that EJ had forgiven her for an even bigger lie and asked why. He explained that they had children and they would always be in each other's lives. She admitted she wished she never lied to him about having his child. He told her that it was okay and that they needed to stop thinking about the past and look to their future. He asked if she would move into the mansion with the kids.
Daniel's surgery began. When he came out of it, he called for Chloe. Carly was there and assured him his fiance would be there soon. It appeared the surgery was a success.
Chloe talked to Greg the nurse, who told her that he saw Chloe and Daniel heading for the elevator together. Chloe demanded to know where they went. Greg "admitted" that he heard gossip about the docs and a motel. She hurried off. Vivian, who had been eavesdropping, approached Greg and congratulated him for his deception. He admitted that he felt badly lying to Chloe. Vivian handed him a lot of cash to start a new life somewhere.... Chloe went to the motel and paid off the clerk to see if Daniel or Carly was registered there. He told her no, but there were a lot of Smiths and couples that had checked in. She showed him a photo of Daniel on her phone and asked if he had checked in. The clerk didn't respond definitively, but said it was possible. A dejected Chloe returned home and spied a shot of her and Daniel on the table. She had a drink, then went to leave. Philip was at the door.
Vivian went to Java and was squealing with delight about her plot against Chloe. Gus couldn't understand why she was so happy to hurt Chloe. She said because it ultimately led back to Carly and chastised him for being so fuddy-duddy about it.
Friday
Rafe dreamed of having sex with Sami and couldn't sleep.... At the townhouse, Sami laughed when EJ invited her and the children to live in the mansion, then realized he wasn't kidding. She pointed out that Kate and Stefano reside there, too. He insisted the advantages of being in the house outweighed the disadvantages. She said she would never live in a home with Stefano. He fired back that she was being unfair, noting that Stefano didn't cause their problems; Nicole and Dr. Baker did. He added that Stefano was very ill (a lie) and wanted the family to be together. Rafe came to the door. He wasn't so thrilled to see EJ was there. EJ took off, asking Sami to think about his offer. Rafe, of course, asked what it was. Sami told him and he laughed. She didn't. "You're not seriously considering this," he said. She said nothing had been decided, but noted that she didn't need Rafe judging her. "I love you ... It kills me that we're apart," he admitted. "EJ is preying upon you.... He's manipulating you. And for whatever reason, you can't see it." She insisted that wasn't true. They argued and she revealed that she needed to spend more time with Sydney in the hopes that the little girl would finally call her Mom. Rafe understood, but didn't think moving in chez DiMera would be a good solution. He added that Stefano was forcing EJ's hand in the situation, but she couldn't see it. He left.
At the DiMera manse, Will and Stefano played chess. Stefano won and hinted that Will's siblings would soon be at the mansion more often. EJ returned and reported that Sami was considering his offer. The Phoenix was pleased.... Will went to Sami's place to talk to his mom. He asked if Sydney and Johnny were really going to be visiting the mansion a lot. She asked why he thought that. He told her that Stefano had implied it. She realized Rafe was right.... Rafe went to the Cheatin' Heart. Stefano called him. "I have information about Samantha," DiMera told him.
Maggie came home to find a pensive Melanie sitting at the dining room table. "Philip and I are finally going to be happy forever," Mel told Mags and filled her in on her earlier conversation — and kiss — with Nathan.
At the hospital, Carly and Maxine checked in on Daniel, who was worried because he hadn't heard from Chloe. He got a sudden headache. Carly gave him a sedative. He was still focused on Chloe, so Carly texted her for him.
A drunken Philip showed up at Chloe's door and revealed that his wife was in love with another man. "Our marriage? A complete and total sham," he told her. She poured them each a drink and confided that Daniel and Carly were together at a sleazy motel and her relationship was on the skids, too. He put a reassuring arm around her. They talked some more, then wound up in a kiss. She pushed him away and asked what they were doing. "I don't know. And I don't care," he said, then pulled her onto the couch, where they had sex. After, they both checked their cell phones to find messages from their significant others. Philip called Melanie and she said she needed to see him. He agreed. He told Chloe he wasn't sorry what happened between them, but was sorry she was hurting. "You don't deserve that," he said. "Neither do you," she replied. He left to see Mel. Chloe headed to the hospital, but not before smashing a photo of her and Daniel.
Philip arrived home and Melanie flew into his arms. She explained that she had finally chosen him to be in her heart 100%. She told Philip about the letter, revealing she was "embarrassed and ashamed" to admit she was willing to run away with Nathan on their wedding day. She cried that she understood if he never wanted to be with her again. She elaborated that Nathan had been there earlier and kissed her. "It was good-bye," she said. She told her hubby that she hoped she was worthy of him. He said he wished he knew before. "Before what?" she asked.
Chloe arrived at the hospital and ran into Carly. "You miserable bitch," Chloe spat. Maxine asked what was wrong with Chloe that she could talk to Carly that way. Carly told Chloe that Daniel had vision surgery earlier and that they thought the procedure was successful. Chloe didn't believe her, and said she was told that Carly and Daniel left the hospital together earlier. Maxine backed up Carly's account. Chloe ran into Daniel's room, relieved to see him.
Dr. Baker and Hope had a drink together. He asked what her name is, but she didn't tell him. He thought he should know if he was going to invite her to his room, but she explained that wasn't the kind of action she was looking for. They talked a bit, then she pulled out her gun. She had a proposition for him. He agreed to her plan.... Baker ran into EJ on the pier. "You? You're dead," a confused EJ said. Hope came up and clocked EJ from behind. Baker was panicked that EJ recognized him.
