I love the latest development that Oliver wants to ignore the possibility he is a father. It makes the character so much more real. Oliver is a great guy & I love him, but the fact that he'd rather pretend he isn't the father, instead of step up & take a DNA test is a flaw that makes the character human. As a young gay man just coming to terms with his sexuality he doesn't want the responsibility of being the sole parent to a baby. Its natural & understandable, even if it isn't the most honourable thing to do.
I can't wait to see how this story plays out & how Oliver reacts when he finds out Kyle is finding out definitively if he is indeed the dad.

The baby also is a reminder that he wasn't being true to who he really was, a gay man.

Fish will keep the baby's parentage a secret, then after much thought and prodding from Kyle, he is going to sue for custody and we will see some major conflict for Fish, Kyle, Gigi, Rex, and Roxie because Gigi is not going to want to let her niece go.

This has the makings of a real custody battle alright. Gigi will want to raise her niece; Kim, with Clint, wants to raise her; Schulyer won't give up without a fight; And Oliver is the bio dad, who wants to shirk his resposibilities, whereas his boyfriend will want him to step up. Maybe Oliver is happy for Gigi to raise his daughter but if Kim gets the girl, that will motivate him (or perhaps Kyle) to reveal the truth!
After all that, in the state of PA, the ONLY one with any rights to the child is Fish. Kim and Clint?.....LMFAO Where do they even think they fit in....LOL
The front page is reporting that Kyle and Fish are leaving??? Odd I thought this was popular.
I am shocked to learn Oliver & Kyle are out (bad pun). They are one of the best couples in Llanview & they are going off canvas cos their story is finished. What??? How about giving them a new story? How about having them interract with others until a new story is developed? Both actors are real talents (heck they were both submitted by OLTL for the pre-emmy ballot ), their story was interesting, realistic & groundbreaking. But they are being dumped. I can see myself no longer watching OLTL once "Kish" are gone.
They are doing what just about every other soap opera does with a gay story. They introduce, give it a good, interesting story and once they walk away with a few GLADD Awards and some good praise for doing a groundbreaking story, they dump the characters and focus on the rest of the cast. We won't see another gay related story for another three to five years. In my personal opinion, soap operas don't really care that much about representing the gay community. It comes and goes just to get some attention and to try and attract some new viewers. Kyle & Oliver, to me are one of my favorite soap opera couples, and I'm disappointed in OLTL for not hanging onto these two characters and making them more of a staple with the show. It's going to make me think twice before I tune in.
I think a story that included Fish, Kyle and Stacey raising the baby together would have been heart warming and funny. All around good.Does anyone watch Modern Family? I love the 2 dads rasing the baby girl.... Imaging something along those lines with Stacey in the middle. I would have loved it. Its really a shame and a waste of what could have been a really good story.
You are so right! Love "Modern Family"...great show...always makes me laugh!
Yeah, I read on some other website what ABC had to say about giving Kish the axe. He's what they had to say....."According to the report, even though KISH has been a big success with the media and gay-advocacy groups have shown favor to One Life to Live
Oh boy, I think that excuse is just total BS! I don't buy it either.I'm about as "mainstream" as a person can get, and I really liked those two guys. Who cares if they're different I am? They're trying to make their situation work and have a happy life, just like the rest of us. I'm very disappointed if that's the reason they're pulling the plug on them.
That is bull. If the ratings are dropping it is because the writing is starting to suffer. I think it was because of too much Mitch Laurence myself. That storyline just wasn't handled properly. It should have been a smash hit, instead it was a major dud. I think Kish really appealed to mainstream audiences. There will be good storylines being missed out on because those guys are leaving. Why kill off Stacy who may return one day and those guys aren't there for her to raise hell with to get her baby back.

And yes, Modern Family is the bomb I watch and record it
I am just so disappointed with OLTL over this whole Kish situation. To me, these characters still have so much more "Life to Live" on the show. I think it's a shame that Frank Valentini thinks that this should be the end of the road for these two. Too many times this happens with gay characters on soap operas. They come in for 6 monts to a year with a great story, then they are gone as quickly as they came. It's true, Oliver and Kyle weren't connected to any other characters, when they arrived in Llanview, which makes it harder to keep them relevant to the community, but somehow they did....and now they are taking them away from the fans. Just because they are not a Cramer, Manning or Buchanan doesn't mean that their story isn't worth telling. As a matter of fact, it would be nice to focus on someone who isn't related to the families listed above. The fans like variety. I just feel like this story is being pulled mid-way through and it's too bad. Mr. Valentini can blame it on ratings or whatever he wishes to, but I believe that Kyle and Oliver contribute greatly to the show and it's a big mistake to give these two the axe.

For this to happen out of the blue, there's got to be something going on. From what I read, even the actors themselves weren't informed before the story appeared in TV Guide. That's pretty tacky. I have a very hard time believing that low ratings are KISH's fault. The show could continue to break new ground by telling the realistic story of two men raising a child, and the issues they will have to confront. I'm disappointed that it has to end. It's very hard for me to believe that some sort of short-sighted bigotry isn't involved. I hope TPTB have a change of heart and reverse this decision.
Rarely do I enjoy seeing new faces being thrown at me, but I have to admit, I really enjoyed KISH, Stacey and Kim. I believe that Kim could have been a great addition to the Buchanans, she would have most definitely stirred the pot. Probably with Joey or Kevin, but I was enjoying her with Clint also. Same with Stacey I would have loved seeing her chasing after Joey to get her hands on some money so that her daughter would have the best of everything and then falling in love with him. What a waste. Since Kyle is a doctor and Fish a police officer, they would have always been in the thick of things. It is time TPTB realize what is hurting ratings is lazy storytelling.
Ditto to every single word
Amen...and well put. Too many shows are falling victim of lazy storytelling. Too afraid to push the envelope and stick with a story. Mr. Valentini claims that Kish wasn't being fully accepted by the mainstream audience...not that I believe that, but even if it were true, what about the millions of fans that were happy with the story of Kish? One of the biggest problems with daytime television is the most of the shows focus on the same families over and over again....(example: Buchanans, Mannings, Cramers.) Why not start a revolution and focus on some new families. It gets old with the same three families facing problems all the time. I would have loved to have seen Kish face the difficulties of raising a child together. We get to see it with the straight characters all the time....not that any of them really spend any time with their children. Cause let's face it, we spend months and months watching a "Who's the baby's daddy?" or "You switched my baby." Only to have those characters completely forget about their children and move on to the next story. I mean, look at how easy life is for Starr and Cole. They went through what seems like an eternity of problems and now raising their kid is just a breeze..and little hope is always with their respective grandmothers...how boring. It would be nice for them to have really developed something special for Kish. It's time for someone to stand up and say, I'm tired of writing the same boring stories over and over....give the audience some variety, and quit getting rid of the characters that the fans are just beginning to fall in love with.
"Lazy storytelling"... I don't think these writers deserve credit. All they do is copy whats already been told. Over & over & over... I am sick of it. Give me something freah and new and please stop with the same old same old stuff.
Rumor from TV Guide Canada is that one or both actors were unprofessional-show up not knowing lines, late, etc. and the show couldn't "waste time" by having to wait on them. In soaps and elsewhere, time is money. So instead of outing the behavior, they were just wrapping up the story. They compared it to when Nathaniel Marston was having issues and they replaced him.
For some unknown reason, I don't believe that story. Just another excuse to get rid of a groundbreaking couple.
It may very well be. I guess we'll never know. But OLTL execs explanation doesn't make sense, that is for sure
Yeah, I'm not buying that explaination either...cause with the Nathaniel Martson situation, they simply did a recast. If their behaviors were that bad, and they were slowing down the production, they could have just recast the characters.
Exactly. I am starting to think, and this could be a good thing, that maybe they are trimming the budget to bring back a big name star or two. Cause I'll be honest, if they can get back Lindsey for one, it'll all be worth it because no matter how much I enjoyed Kish, Stacey, and Kim, I enjoy watching Lindsey more.
I like Lindsay, she's ok, but Kish was new and refreshing. Lindsey get they same stories with small twists. Now if they would writer her a real story then great.
Love Lindsey so much, and I would love if they brought her back. But I still want them to keep Kish around. There's enough room for Kish & Lindsey....LOL They could lose Marko, Langston & Ford and keep Kish in their place.
Now there is a great idea
I second that because I am sick of Langston, Marrko, and Ford also.
Quote:Yeah, I'm not buying that explaination either...cause with the Nathaniel Martson situation, they simply did a recast. If their behaviors were that bad, and they were slowing down the production, they could have just recast the characters. A double recast on a groundbreaking story, I don't think that would have flown. But there are other characters that absolutely could take a hike-Markko, Langston and Ford for starters. And since they are getting rid of Rachel and Schuyler maybe they could take Greg with them.....
Do you think they will take the baby with them when they leave or let Gigi take care of the child?
I think the three leave together.
Quote:I think the three leave together. I think OLTL wants to forget this story totally so she will be leaving town. They won't speak of this disaster again.
I think you are right.
According to rumor, they are not leaving town, they will just be in town and not seen or heard.
Quote:According to rumor, they are not leaving town, they will just be in town and not seen or heard. That would be weird. I mean both work in the hospital and police department. Don't like that idea.
ABC Daytime needs to stop throwing salt into the wound, in regards to the Kish storyline. They keep coming up with all of these various excuses as to why they fired Scott Evans & Brett Claywell...and I'm not buying any of the explainations. Just say it like it is....you were cowarldly stepping away from the story because you were afraid of ticking off what you call your "mainstream audience." It's not okay to show two gay guys raising a kid, but it is okay to show Mitch trying to rape his own daughter, after giving her electro-shock therapy? I strongly disagree with this notion. I know plenty of straight people that were 100% behind this story. You also claim that every story arc has to come to an end and that's why you're dumping these characters.....funny though, some characters get story after story and I don't see them being let go when their story is over...they just get put on the backburner for a bit....Unless, you're Jessica Buchanan, then you get continuous stories throughout the whole year.
I also heard an interview that Brett Claywell did where he said he was given 24 hours to gather up his things and be gone...How crappy is that? He didn't even get to say goodbye to the people he had worked a hear and a half with. This doesn't sound like a story that was just wrapping up and the writers were moving on to something else. I know for a fact that the show threw a party for the character of Adriana when she left the first time....and I think Scott & Brett deserved a respectable fairwell after the wonderful contribution that they made with the show.
I've said it before and I'll say it again....Shame on you OLTL & ABC Daytime!! I'm VERY disappointed in how you all handled this.

I'm glad Kyle is on a mission. I'm hoping that Oliver will be happy that he is the father. I know he and Kyle would be excellent parents.
