Catching Up With...Greg Vaughan (ex-Lucky, GH, 2003-09; ex-Diego, Y&R, 2002-03)

In the 12/28 issue of Digest, Greg Vaughan filled us in on what he’s been up to since we last saw him on GH, and not surprisingly, the actor’s been busy. He’s ABC Family’s sexiest dad in the new pilot WHAT WOULD JANE DO? He also did three episodes of 90210, the independent film Sebastian and a stint on THE CLOSER. Here, Vaughan shares some stories that didn’t make it into the mag….
Soap Opera Digest: You’re one of the few actors who’s actually done both 90210 [as Kai] and the original BEVERLY HILLS, 90210 [as Cliff from 1996-97].

Greg Vaughan: I know! How cool is that? It’s funny. My first day was Jennie Garth‘s [ex-Kelly] last day. The moment she saw me that morning on set, she was like, “What are you….? But you’re not….? Didn’t you….?” It was really funny. It was so great to bond and catch up with her, to reminisce and talk about our families and how far we’ve come since then. It was sad to see her go.

Digest: You had some real chemistry with Lori Loughlin [Debbie; ex-Jody, EDGE]. We thought for sure Kai would be back the next season.

Vaughan: Thank you. Lori was wonderful. I was her boy toy, and I didn’t have a problem with that [laughs]. It’s not every day you get paid to kiss Lori Loughlin. But, it didn’t turn into something. I thought it might but the executives weren’t sure. They were going through a lot of cast changes and focusing on demographics.

Digest: How was it doing THE CLOSER?

Vaughan: It was a great experience. The episode we did was based on a true story about something that happened in Los Angeles. It was a tragic story: a young woman was murdered by a crack head with a beer bottle for 20 bucks down on Skid Row. I played a mounted cop, so I got to hang out with the officers. There was a lot of horse talk, and I got to work with Robert Gossett [Commander Taylor; ex-Incident Commander, Y&R; ex-Woody, PASSIONS]. He’s also Lou Gossett‘s cousin. We really connected. I got to do a couple scenes with Kyra Sedgewick [ex-Julia, AW]. The show’s creator was from Texas. The production team was just the nicest group of people from top to bottom. Everyone made me feel at home.

Digest: Tell us about Sebastian.

Vaughan: It’s a horror flick by Gregori Martin, who’s also responsible for the Web series THE BAY. The premise of the film is really trippy. Brody‘s [Hutzler, ex-Patrick, DAYS; ex-Cody, Y&R] in it, too.

Digest: Have you kept in touch with anyone from your GH days?

Vaughan: Not really, and not by choice. Everyone’s busy. They’re either working or with their families, and that’s just the way life is. I do talk to [Jason] Thompson [Patrick]. We went to a concert recently for a guys night out, which was great. I ran into Julie [Marie Berman, Lulu] and Lisa [LoCicero, Olivia] at an event. That was cool. I’m sure I’ll cross paths with more of them. L.A. really is a small town. Look at me. With this pilot, I’m back in the ABC family again.
