Catching Up With GH's Antonio Sabato Jr.

Former GENERAL HOSPITAL heartthrob Antonio Sabato Jr. (ex-Jagger) will be back on both the small and the big screen soon. Here, he fills us in on where to watch.Weekly: Do you have anything else in the works?

Antonio Sabato Jr.: I did an independent movie called Clean Cut, which is going to the festivals right now. It is a dark comedy about two guys who fall in love. It involves homosexuality and comedy. I played the boyfriend of an actor by the name of David Sutcliffe (Christopher, Gilmore Girls). He’s a wealthy South American man who comes to Los Angeles to get involved with David and he takes off. Then David goes on a hunt to find him and a lot of weird, dark things happen. It is very different then anything I have done before.Weekly: Did you have any kissing scenes?

Sabato Jr.: Oh, yeah.Weekly: Was that a challenge for you?
Sabato Jr.: It was definitely a challenge. I want to show people in the industry that I am willing to do whatever it takes to establish my craft. I have been working as an actor pretty much all my life and you have to challenge yourself all the time. You have to prove to everybody else that you can do anything that you are asked to do or are willing to do. It’s a very funny script and very challenging as far as the characters are concerned. It is definitely comedy. I have been wanting to do comedy for a long time.
I also have a show on The WB that I am going to be doing a series called The Help. It is produced by Ron Leavitt who created Married with Children. Al Santos (Grosse Pointe) and Mindy Cohn (The Facts of Life) are in it. It got picked up by The WB so that is very exciting because it is a live audience and I have been wanting to do a sitcom for a long time. It takes place in a house in Miami with a wealthy family, a mother and three kids. The help are the people who help the house. I play the trainer, but he doesn’t really train. He pretty much goes out with the mother. Mindy Cohn plays the chef who goes out with the gardener, and you have a dog walker and a driver. There’s a limo driver who is going out with one of the daughters. The humor is very close to Married with Children, so it’s a lot of sex and funny, quirky things going on all day long.Weekly: How is your family?
Sabato Jr.: My family is doing great. We have a daughter (Mina) now. My son (Jack) is 9 years old, my daughter is 10 months.Weekly: Is fatherhood easier the second time or is it still a challenge?

Sabato Jr.: I have a daughter, so it is different than a boy but they are both a pleasure. They are the best thing in my life. I try to work harder than I ever did, and everything I do I put them in front of me before I do anything. I tend to think about things a lot more than I used to.
