Carrying (on) a Tune With Scott Reeves

Scott Reeves (ex-Jake, DAYS OF OUR LIVES; ex-Ryan, YOUNG AND RESTLESS) has taken over the role of Dr. Steven Webber on GENERAL HOSPITAL, leaving behind a musical career with the band Blue County. But he remains involved with his Internet radio program, The Scott and Melissa Reeves Radio Show, which can be heard at www.scottandmelissareeves.com. And he is developing an important new link to the music industry.Soap Opera Weekly: I understand your daughter, Emily, is following in your musical footsteps.

Scott Reeves: Musically and personally, we’ve been focusing on Emily. She’s really blossomed into a little singer/songwriter. We’ve been working on her project for a while now. [The radio show] is definitely a place where we will debut some of her stuff and continue some of my stuff. It’s a really cool show. It’s really music-focused. We play tons of country music, so it’s a really fun show. I think it appeals to a pretty wide range of people.

Weekly: Are you performing live with your band, Blue County, anymore?

Reeves: No. Blue County had our last show. Not to say that that will never happen again. It ran its course. Golly, we signed a record deal in 2003; we were ready for a break, I’m telling you, man! What an experience the music industry was at that level for that amount of time. We were burning candles at both ends. It is a tough industry. We were relatively successful doing it. We just had to take a break and breathe. I had done a Hallmark movie [2007’s FINAL APPROACH] — just a little part. I had a three-week window in our tour schedule to do that. That really reignited that acting flame inside of me.

Weekly: Rick Springfield (ex-Noah, GH) also told me that touring grinds you down.

Reeves: It will definitely burn you out. You really do have to be out there when you are promoting your music. You are out there non-stop. It takes a toll on you physically, mentally and emotionally. When you’re away from your family, you can take doses of it, but you definitely need your time away from it and your time home. It has its rewarding moments, but there definitely is a price you pay.
