At first, when I saw the more mature Brenda, I was encouraged by her return even though I knew it would lead to the 9 millionth reunion of the been there, done that Brenda & Sonny. Guza & company managed to ruin that for me, but not in the way you'd expect. I knew Sonny & Spinelli would be gaga over her & even Max & Milo. But, even Dante has a romantic past with her & is apparently still under her spell, proving like father, like son. Who didn't see that coming? (Yawn). As usual, GH has to overdo it, telling the audience you MUST love Brenda. Look at how she affects every man in Port Charles. She MUST be the most beautiful woman you've ever seen or your eyes aren't working.
Uh...Nooo. I see just fine, thank you. Yes, VM-G is a beautiful woman, but I know it'll shock Guza & co. to know that everyone's interpretation of beautiful is different. I guarantee there are viewers out there who look at her & see ugly. Probably not alot of them, but they're out there. I personally don't think she's any more beautiful than any other woman on the show. As a matter of fact, I think Sam is much better looking. Maybe not as interesting a character as Brenda, but she is gorgeous. Again, everyone's interpretation of beauty is different.
The writers missed the boat on something else. By making every female on the show feel like yesterday's oatmeal because all the men are stupified by Brenda's great luminescence, they're also alienating fans who've only started watching in the years since Brenda left & have built attachments to the female characters they're used to seeing. It's especially annoying to see these women, who have men dripping off of them like water after a shower, feeling so insecure & behaving badly because of it.
I really thought the 13 year old boys who've been writing for the show all summer would've stopped once they went back to school. I do hope the adults will take over soon & start writing something that people from high school on up can enjoy as well.
It is just ridiculous the way every man in Port Charles has suddenly forgotten their lady love and fallen for Brenda. Max loves Mrs. C/J and Diane but he is falling all over himself for Brenda? Jax who has been in love with Carly now for some time and says she is the woman he compares all others to, has to go into superman protective mode. Brenda is a big girl and can take care of herself and if she can't well then that is her own stupid fault. Just like Carly said last week, she has info that could help protect her but she keeps it to herself. She has not changed one bit still the selfish drama queen who needs to be the center of attention. I wish she would just go back to Rome so the men will take off their Brenda colored glasses. Love Vanessa Marcil but I wish Brenda never came back.
I know it is crazy, but I am loving the fact that everyone is reacting to Brenda's return. The only complaint I have is Sam's reaction is too severe. She has already stated that she doesn't think Brenda and Jason have feelings for one another, her insecurity doesn't make sense to me. Other than that, everything else has been spot on. I can't wait for the Quartermaine's to get in on the act. Edward is going to be a hoot. So will Tracy with her one liners. I stated that I hoped Brenda's return would reinvigorate the canvas, and it seems to be. Everyone looks like they are having fun during their scenes. They have been equal parts dramatic and funny. Perfect combination if you ask me
Jason has feelings for her too. He must. It's been 8 years since she lived with him, yet in all that time, he never painted that room or allowed Spinelli to, forcing him to live in the "regrettably pink room." I know Jason's resistant to change, but this is a room he never goes in. If his feelings run no deeper than friendship, why keep a sort of shrine to her?The show has overdone it with the Brenda love & every man in Port Charles being afflicted with it. Matt's the only guy who could care less & he's never on. When Brenda was front burner the first time around, she was much younger (very nearly 20 years!) & was also a "supermodel" yet she didn't have every man on the show stupified. It was pretty much just Sonny & Jax. This Brenda worship is a big mistake on the part of the show. People already complain about their favorite characters/couples not getting enough airtime or good stories. It's even worse now that she's back because the world now revolves around her. There is not one story on the show that she won't be involved in. Pretty soon, they'll have to retitle the show, "The Many Loves of Brenda Barrett."
I don't think Jason is in love with Brenda. I think he likes her alot more than he lets on. I think he really does like her as a friend, because despite their differences, Brenda and Carly are alike in many ways. Brenda is Sonny and Jax's love and he has seen what loving her can do to men, so he wants no part of that. I felt that reintroducing Brenda in Rome was stupid, and executed poorly, but from the moment Jason entered the picture, the storyline has taken off. Especially now that she is back in Port Chuck. General Hospital has historically put extremely popular returning characters in everyone's orbit to connect or reconnect them to most of the canvas. They did it with Luke and Laura, Lucy Coe, Bobbie, Felicia, Sonny, Lucky, and now with Brenda. It will taper off. But right now, I for one am enjoying the ride. Not because I am a huge Brenda fan, I like her but don't love her that much (although I do like her with Sonny more than Jax), but because her return is doing what it is supposed to be doing, which is generating story that will probably involve half the cast. Plus, I really like Suzanne. She will probably end up collateral damage somewhere down the line, but I like the presence she has in Brenda's and Jason's lives, and I like how she sticks up for Brenda when people are putting her down. Which is needed because Brenda's effect on the men of Port Charles is not her fault, it is the writer's fault.
My problem with it is the execution. The show overdid it by making practically every guy on the show gaga over her. I know they want the newer audience members to like her, but by putting Brenda in the position of being despised by every female character on the show except Robin, they won't accomplish it. I've always been somewhere in the middle where Brenda's concerned. She was never a favorite character but I didn't despise her either. But there are viewers out there (women) who will dislike the character because of all the slavish devotion to her at the expense of other female characters' growth. We expect Carly & Maxie to be insecure & act out, but not Sam. While she looks great in sexy dresses, I'd rather she wear them because Jason's decided to take her out to dinner than because he has his supermodel ex living with him. I personally would've preferred to see Maxie gaga over meeting Brenda & being starstruck rather than jealous of Spinelli's idiotic obsession with Brenda/avatar bimbo.I would actually prefer to see them focus more on why Jason brought her back to Port Charles, the "Balkan" Aussie with the English accent & Brenda getting meds for her ADD than everyone obsessed with how stunningly irresistable she is. I agree with you about Suzanne. I like the whole motherly relationship she has with Brenda & that she isn't gung ho to reunite her with Sonny, who runs through soulmates like toilet paper. But, I do agree they are more interesting together than she & Jax were. I thought they were boring. He definitely should stay with Carly or there will be no personality to Jax.It's more than time they get to the meat of the story now that Lucky knows what the Balkan wants from him. It's also time he find out the Brenda/Jason end of it & head back to Port Charles. Especially now that his brother's getting beat up because "Father O'Malley" visited him. If the rumors are true & Jerry is really the Balkan, he is smart enough to figure out Lucky's pretending to be Ronan. PS, regardless of how much Lucky looks like the dead terrorist, I don't see Interpol picking him for the assignment. They really are efficient & effective, unlike PCPD.

Say that LJ! Also, was it my imagination or did the writers have the nerve to have "gotta get me some booty" Micheal drooling over her in his Micheal way. Puleezze......she is not all that and IMO she ain't got nothin on Carly. However, I am interested to see whats up with her and Dante....and can't wait til Lulu finds out and gets all insecure. Ha, she was big bad Lulu with Brooklyn. Can't wait to see how she handles Brenda.
