Who do you think is the better Greenlee?
I never thought I'd say this, but I actually think Sabine Singh did a better job with the character than what Rebecca Budig is doing now. I'll be truthful and say that I don't care for the character, period. However, looking over the last few months and comparing the two actresses, Ms. Singh conveyed a much more complex and layered Greenlee. I'm no fan of her's, but her Greenlee showed much more dimension than what we're getting now with Ms. Budig.
Since Ms. Budig's return I've been waiting for something to happen, but I'm left scratching my head and asking, "What was the point of the switch?" Greenlee has been a flat, uninteresting character who is either playing the flirt or the annoying little sister. And she's important why? The only semblance of a spark was a few days ago when we saw a bit of the "wenchy" Greenlee in her confrontation with Annie, but a 15 second scene does not make a character.
Granted, Ms. Budig is hampered greatly by the writing, but the writing was little better during Ms. Singh's time. At this point, I simply don't see why Greenlee is there.
The better Greenlee... is a dead Greenlee. The character needs to go...now!
Quote:The better Greenlee... is a dead Greenlee. The character needs to go...now! Amen
Yeah... my vote is for dead... and not "soap dead" either. I mean DEAD dead. LOLSabine's voice use to make my ears hurt (not her fault), but other than that I thought she was the better actress. Budig does nothing for me.
Can I vote neither? She is such a useless character - she never should have came back.Actually - I think I would like her dead.
I have never been a Greenlee fan so perhaps my comments are less than objective. I would prefer NO Greenlee as she is a whiny immature character with little depth and little "rooting" factor.
But I will say that Sabine's Greenlee..felt more real to me (ironic, right?)..and I felt some depth of character, even though I didn't like her. RB's Greenlee is just too damn annoying and I can't take her seriously. She just seems out of place on the show now..like everyone else grew up and she just appeared after two years exactly the same.
No GreenleeBut if forced to pick, Singh.
Absolutely not a fan of the character, so I don't really care which actress portrays her. If I had to go with depth, however, I'd go with SS. RB is phoning it in.
Here is a thought. Leo can come back, Josh's show got cancelled. Have him come back and Greenlee and Leo can leave town together. I don't think it is Rebecca I think it is the writing, it is just awful.
The writing was awful under SS too.Sabine isn't the greatest actress, but the girl was obviously trying to do her best.Up until that talk Greenlee had with Ryan the other day (when they talked about the I AM THAT MONSTER days) I had seen no emotion from RB. Hopefully this means she'll start stepping it up.
Greenlee, IMO, no longer fits on the show. They are constantly trying to shove square Greenlee into a round hole, it just won't work! Rather than go to all the expense of bringing back the REAL Greenlee, they should have just either killed her off or sent her back out of town. But to answer the original question, if I had to pick one, it would be Sabine. She brought a bit more of a human quality to the character, something that RB's version seriously lacks.
IMO it is the material. The shows writing stinks. No one imo has a good story line. I really don't think it is the acting. Sorry.
I pick RB. She will always be the real Greenlee to me.
The problem is that I'm getting nothing from Rebecca Budig. Granted, the writing sucks, but other actors have had FAR WORSE writing and they've done something with it. Budig looks like she's just going through the motions, collecting a paycheck. At least with Singh, there was a little something there, not much, but something. I agree, right now, I see no use for Greenlee because they've given her no purpose or reason for being there. They could almost have any random character doing what she's doing now. Aside from the Rylee stuff. If their intention is to do the Rylee thing, they need to step it up because right now, Greenlee is just a waste of space.
Don't you think that is AMC problem, they bring back a character and than never write correctly for them. Example Maria, Dixie. It is like they forget how to write for the character they created.

It is like they forget how to write for the character they created. I think it's ONE of the problems, and definitely a major part of the problem for the show is the writing. I think what they also do is forget why people liked a character in the first place. Dixie is a prime example of that.People loved Dixie for Tad and Dixie and her relationship with her family. What did we get with her last return? Months interacting only with Zach, someone she hadn't met before. Now, there's debate on why that happened, whether Cady McClain demanded that or not, but either way it was a huge mis-step because that was NOT the story people wanted to see. They wanted Tad and Dixie and Dixie reconnecting with her family, JR, Palmer, Opal, heck, even Adam, probably.I don't know what the story is that people want to see for Greenlee. Quite frankly, I don't think there's a story for her. I see no significant use for this character. If the purpose was for Rylee, again, they've dropped the ball by delaying it and having all this other nonsense going on that people become even less interested, if at all to begin with, with this character. It doesn't help that I don't think Budig is doing a particularly good job. I just don't see much effort there except in that one spark she had in arguing with Annie. But it gets tiresome if all she's able to do is play snipey wench.
I do think the reason was to get Greenlee and Ryan together and they did drop the ball as usual when they bring someone back. By now no one cares. They just want both of them to go. I still think bringing Leo back would be good. She was really good with him.

I thought Sabine Singh's Greenlee was bad, Budig has been worse. Her Greenlee is just so flat and useless.
IMO RB isn't selling her pairing with Aiden. She isn't showing the LOVE she is suppose to have. Unfortunately for RB she isn't a romantic person and just can't pull it off. Sabine had an innocence about her which worked well with Aiden...Not RB. I don't see any reason for Greenlee to stay.
Please RB was amazing with Leo, they had chemistry and it really worked. Maybe it just isn't there with Aiden and it was with the other actress.
Quote:Please RB was amazing with Leo, they had chemistry and it really worked. Maybe it just isn't there with Aiden and it was with the other actress. Or she's not trying with AT.
Could be. But sometimes one person does not have the same chemistry with someone else. Singh had chemistry with Aiden but maybe Budig just doesn't.
I've never cared for the character of Greenlee...she's just too annoying. If I had to choose between the two, I think Sabine gave Greenlee more depth and was more sincere. Rebecca is too selfish with no real warmth to speak of.Greenlee has no place on AMC now and needs to go.
No contest. Rebecca Budig is the best Greenlee. Sabine was good, there's no denying that, but RB is just better. She's the best younger actress AMC has.
Acting 101 is understanding the character you are going portray. Unfortunately for SS, she failed to do that, and the only time she was interesting to watch was with Aidan Turner and Thorsten Kaye. She just wasn't a good solo actress. Rebecca has been both a good couples, triangle and of course, a leading daytime actress. She just MAKES Greenlee. Greenlee came to town a bad girl but underneath it all was a heart of gold. I knew that woman was in there, and the first scene where she was truly vulnerable as a lead was when Roger was first introduced on the canvas. The array of emotions she played in that scene made me a fan for life. She was outstanding, and no one could ever touch her in my eyes after that. She slowly became more of her own woman when she started working for Enchantment. No longer was she just this trust fund baby. She was ready to make her own life. Greenlee had evolved. That is all thanks to the amazing skills of Rebecca Budig. She just played Greenlee with so many emotions. As has been said by her in the past, when she's vulnerable, it means something. I think that idea got lost with SS, but it's now back again with RB playing the part. I'm thrilled that she is back, and I wouldn't want it any other way.
Hands down Rebecca. That girl is phenomenal. She conveys a lot of emotion with her eyes. Her Greenlee will be the only Greenlee for me. I just love her, she's fabulous.
Hi, there! I'm Mala, one of your Admins. You've all been pretty respectful so far in this discussion, but I just wanted to pass on the reminder that we absolutely do NOT condone actor bashing on our forums, so please keep your criticism of both Budig and Singh evenhanded and refrain from personal attacks. Thanks, Everyone.

I feel SS did start out weak as she was new to daytime but by the time she left, I felt her performances were very real and very on target. I enjoyed her work with TK and AM and thought her chemistry with ATwas excellent. While I was never ever a Greenlee fan wth either actress, I felt I really understood what SS's Greenlee was going through and found myself empathizing with her position.I do not feel the same way with RB. I cannot get into her performance and she does not help me to empathsize with the character of Greenlee. I felt this way to some degree on RB's first time out, but more so this time around.Again, this is just MY opinion and how I have reacted to both actors playing the same character. To each his own.

That's why we all have our different tastes. I think Zen is an absolute joke and wish they would do away with the couple and their constant air time. However, they will remain because there are fans of them. The same goes for RB. We are strong bunch, and we are getting louder by the day. SS just wasn't right for the role IMHO, and I mean no disrespect to the actress. I did like her with AT, and I said that in my earlier post. However, to TRULY like a character, I have to like them on an individual basis. Rebecca did that for me and MANY, MANY others.

I was just voicing MY opinion. I prefer to let the other Greenlee, SS or RB fans or non Greenlee, RB or SS fans speak for themselves. JMHO.
I'm a fan of neither actress, but I have to say that Sabine Singh was coming into her own towards the end of her tenure. Yes, her Greenlee was definitely a different interpetation than Rebecca Budig's, but IMO, I thought SS' Greenlee had much more complexity to her than RB's current version.

Why is Greenlee back? What purpose is she serving? She isn't forwarding any story lines and it isn't like RB is a long time actress on the show. She only signed on for a year. So why did they feel it necessary to continue the character? It was obvious that the character was a flop and they had a perfect opportunity to kill it off when she was flatlined. So why did they choose to keep Greenlee on canvas? For what reason? Given the ratings flop it wasn't IMO the best decision in the world and probably the worst. Because they could of used the income from RB's contract, which is only one year, and put it into characters fans want back, like Brooke.IMO there isn't a better Greenlee. I prefer the character gone. Unless they continue Rylee I would be fine with RB staying, because I think she has better chemistry with Cam. However, they really haven't given RB a chance with AT so who knows. I just prefer the character gone yesterday.
