Oddly enough, Van and I had a little chat about the very subject, Mark!

Quote:I agree. After Elwood was "hit" by the car on the bridge, I was worried about how lame Luke's accident would be. But this looked great. But I had to laugh when I read spoilers that Luke would be fine. I mean, he rolls off a small hill and he's paralyzed... And he'll be just fine after a little rest after this?

Well, Luke HAD to get paralyzed back in 07 so the writers had an excuse to make sure he wouldn't have sex with his hot boyfriend. Now that he's actually allowed to have sex (500 something days later) he can take a beating like being run over and be just fine I guess. There's no cop out needed anymore. Throw him off a cliff like Paul and I'm sure he'd survive that too.

But I agree with you about this show finally staging a realistic looking hit and run. I was worried after that whole Elwood on the bridge thing. I'm really looking forward to next week's episodes.

So yesterday a bot-baby was kidnapped. That has to be a daytime first! LOLHenry was scaring me a little when he seemed obsessed with the bot-baby, but Trent was amazing in those scenes.

Today's episode (5-8-09) wasn't that bad. I liked that the storylines actually intersected each other. But I couldn't help but cringe over the fact that the writers took this long to acknowledge that Lucy has other family members on this show. Since she came back to town in February, Lucy has gotten her job back at memorial, made some kind of peace with Craig and interacted with half the town. However, she never had a single scene with Lucinda until today! Not once during that entire time did they even mention each other. The same goes for Lily and Luke. Lucy and Luke were very close when she took off with Johnny in 2006, yet all this time I was wondering if they were ever going to see each other. I couldn't help but laugh when Lucy told Lucinda today, "I know we haven't seen each other lately, but..." yeah, you haven't seen each other lately. Try 3 years! I can't believe they never had any type of reunion on screen until this. I was beginning to wonder if TPTB even remembered they are related. All too often these days, I feel like the characters on this show are so trapped in their own bubbles that they can't acknowledge other people in their lives they have long history with. Would it have killed the writers to dedicate one episode to having Lucy reunite with Sierra's side of the family this past Winter instead of having her spend all her time in the mess known as Paul/Meg/Dusty/Craig?

Interesting how in today's episode, Damian and Dusty shook hands and acted like old acquaintances. The last time they had a scene together, Damian knocked Dusty out and locked him in the basement in Fairwinds with Lucy. That, of course, led them to barely escape a gas explosion. Considering those events, I didn't expect them to act so chummy when they came face to face today. That warped logic was right up there with Lucy and Damian working together after where things left off with them and Carly sleeping with the man who tried to kill her sister. The writers on this show continue to have no respect for the history of their characters. You have to completely ignore their pasts to make sense of what they currently do on screen today. It's really sad.

They must however think we are idiots and don't remember such things. Maybe that's why JP likes the newbies so much she doesn't have to worry about history. No wonder more and more of us continue to tune out.

What's truly mind boggling is that many of these things happened only 3-4 short years ago, not in 1975. And Jean Passanante was the still headwriter at the time these original events happened! These illogical interactions and situations are very basic things that should be easy to avoid. But no. I guess when the writers come up with a story idea, they will stick with it no matter what...history be damned. This complete and utter disrespect for the viewer's intelligence can only add to the show's downfall. And us, the viewers who love these characters are the ones who have to suffer.

it just boggles the mind at JP's sheer laziness at continuity even at 3-4yrs ago! It's like she can't remember!!! Something could've happened offscreen for Damien and Lucy to have met...okay mebbe I could take a milisecond of that, but Damien and Dusty have not met since the basement explosion!
