AMC Week of May 4, 2009
Monday
Ryan and Kendall made love at the penthouse while, back at the Slater house, Zach tended to a weepy Ian. He decided to bring the boy to the hospital and called Kendall, but she was showering with Ryan so he left a message. When Kendall heard the voicemail, she raced to get dressed and asked Ryan to come with him.... Zach brought Ian in to the hospital and Joe told Gayle to page David as a precaution.... Ryan and Kendall arrived at the hospital and Ryan excused himself to call Erica. "I think there's something very wrong with our boy," sighed Zach to Kendall.
Scott came to the hospital and Erica told him about Adam's seizure. Scott expressed concern about Adam's health and when talk turned to Chandler Enterprises, Erica was impressed by Scott's passion about the heart valve. Scott and Erica also discussed Cindy. Scott thanked Erica for being there for his uncle. Ryan interrupted to let Erica know that Ian was also at the hospital.
At ConFusion, JR pondered taking a drink. Marissa advised him not to drink. David wandered in and when Marissa told JR that she's living with David and Krystal, JR blasted his former father-in-law. David interrupted with his own negative words about JR. After they traded barbs, JR left and David ranted about JR to Marissa. He warned Marissa never to defend JR to him again or he'd kick her out of Wildwind.
In the darkened Chandler mansion, Krystal came across Tad, who was looking for evidence of Adam's involvement in Dixie's death. Tad told Krystal about Stuart having seen Adam with the ribbon at the gate and about Adam's seizure. Tad was able to crack Adam's safe and found an envelope with Krystal's name on it. Tad handed it over to Krystal at her request. He urged her to tell him what she's hiding. JR came home and told Krystal that David and Marissa were together. Krystal told Tad that Marissa was an old friend.
JR told Krystal to tell Marissa to keep her nose out of his business. After Krystal left, Tad and JR continued to look for clues about Adam's possible role in Dixie's death. Krystal went back to Wildwind and lit the envelope on fire in the fireplace. When Marissa returned home, she lashed out at Marissa for spilling her secrets to JR. Krystal apologized for losing her temper and ran out. Marissa went over to the fireplace and was baffled when she found the charred remains of a photo of her.... At the Chandler manse, JR had a
new memory of the day that Dixie died — of Adam smiling....
Joe told David that he thought they should get an OR prepped for Ian. David informed Zach, Erica, Kendall and Ryan that Ian's heart was failing and he required more surgery to replace the valve. When David said that Ian would die without surgery, Kendall began crying and collapsed into Zach's arms. As Erica and Ryan discussed Ryan's certainty that Kendall's future is with him, Zach observed Kendall telling Ian that nothing would ever come between them again.... Erica urged Ryan to give up Kendall, certain that she and Zach were far from over.... Scott approached David to ask if his heart valve could help Ian. David said that it didn't matter because Jake and Ian's parents would have to agree to let their baby be used as a guinea pig.... Kendall told Zach how bad she felt that she had been with Ryan when her baby
needed her. Zach told her not to feel guilty about living her life.
Tuesday
Marissa decided to move out of Wildwind. David apologized for overreacting
earlier but Marissa was set on her plan, explaining that she'd gotten a job
at the yacht club that provided room and board. She asked David to give an
envelope to Krystal, who came downstairs shortly after Marissa left. Krystal
inquired what he was looking at. "You tell me," said David, showing her the
photo of Marissa that Marissa had retrieved from the fireplace and put in
the envelope. Also included was a note from Marissa, saying that she was
sorry to have intruded. Krystal explained that she had lost her temper with
Marissa and covered with David by lamenting her inability to give David
another child. Krystal went to the yacht club, where Marissa was her server.
Krystal said that she didn't want Marissa to leave town.
At the hospital, Ryan sought word on Ian's condition. Scott conferred with
Jake about Ian's need for the heart valve. Jake agreed that Ian was a
good candidate.
At the Chandler masne, Adam grumbled about the latest hit to Chandler's
stock price. Gayle, who was now functioning as Adam's private nurse, gave
him his medicine. Adam opened his safe and found a file missing. He
immediately accused JR of being responsible. JR denied it but confronted
Adam about seeing him smiling the day that Dixie died. Adam accused JR of
abandoning him when he needs him most. JR complained about Scott, who then
entered to discuss Zach. JR railed at Scott for wanting to use Ian as a
guinea pig for the valve and he accused Adam of supporting the notion only
because of Chandler's dwindling stock value.
At Ian's bedside, Joe told Zach, Kendall and Erica that Ian's heart valve
needed to be replaced ASAP. Joe explained their options, neither of which
guaranteed a recovery for Ian. La Kane excused herself to leave an urgent
message for Adam about the heart valve. Kendall became overwhelmed and ran
down the hall. Ryan comforted her, which Zach observed sadly. At Kendall's
request, Ryan left to check on Spike. When Ryan entered on his way out, Zach asked Ryan to
give Spike a hug for him. Jake came in to tell Zach and Kendall about
Scott's valve. David entered shortly thereafter to voice his opposition to
use of the experimental valve. Zach didn't want Jake to perform surgery on
Ian. Jake told David that if David performed the surgery, the valve was
still his to use. Kendall asked David for his opinion after Jake excused
himself. David acknowledged that the prototype could be Ian's best chance at
survival. She begged David to save her son's life. Zach, meanwhile, sat
vigil in Ian's room and urged the boy to fight. Kendall and Zach disagreed
about use of the valve; Kendall was for it, Zach was against. David
announced that he wouldn't necessarily perform the operation.
At the Hubbard house, Taylor, Brot, Angie, Jesse, Randi and Natalia
continued to await word on Frank's condition. Angie was nearly hysterical.
The phone rang; Jesse answered and handed the phone to Randi. After getting
off the phone, Randi reported that Frankie had been wounded and was being
flown to Germany for treatment. The group tried to buoy one another's
spirits and Brot advised a wait-and-see attitude. Jesse took Taylor aside
and she confirmed that Frank wouldn't have been relocated if it wasn't
serious. Jesse tried to stay strong. Brot took Taylor out to the fire escape
to apologize to her for what he had put her through when he got injured.
Brot went to see a colonel about Frankie. He asked the colonel to make a
phone call about Frank.... Taylor warned Randi that Brot was probably badly
hurt.... Brot got bad news from the colonel, who had received an update on
Frank's condition. "How am I supposed to tell Frankie's family?" he
wondered.
Adam, tailed by Gayle, barged in on Krystal and Marissa's conversation and
introduced himself to the girl as Krystal winced. When Marissa went back to
work, Adam helped himself to a seat at Krystal's table and made a crack
about how much more attractive Marissa is, saying she was better-looking
than Babe. Adam said that Krystal was lucky that Marissa and Babe had been
fraternal twins. "No one is ever going to find out from me that you sold
your daughter," he assured her as Marissa returned to take his order. Close
call averted, Krystal hissed to Adam that she would kill him if Marissa ever
learned the truth.
Scott observed as JR reassured Little Adam about Adam's condition and their
financial situation as a family. Scott told Little Adam that he would never
take the company away from him. JR told Scott that if the valve failed and a
child died, he wouldn't be able to live with it. "Can you?" he asked his
cousin.
Erica went to the Slater house to beg Ryan to drop his relationship with
Kendall. Ryan continued to insist that Kendall's future is with him. Erica
told Ryan that she doesn't even recognize him anymore. He reminded her that
he didn't steal Kendall from a happy marriage; being with him was Kendall's
choice.
Wednesday
At the Hubbard house, Jesse tried to keep Angie calm. Brot arrived and reported to Jesse, Angie, Taylor and Randi that Frankie is still alive but that his hands had been crushed. "A doctor's hands are everything," sighed Angie, who was nonetheless grateful that her son was alive. Angie was eager to get to Germany to see her son. "He needs his wife," maintained Randi. Brot advised waiting to find out what the army advised. Brot volunteered to ultimately accompany Randi to Germany. It was clearly hard for Angie to accept that Randi was now the number one woman in Frank's life.
When Jake got home from work, Opal alerted him to the fact that Amanda had packed her things and left for the airport. Jake read the note that Amanda left for him, which said that she needed a fresh start elsewhere.... At the airport, Amanda saw a woman watching the telenovela that Jake had gotten her hooked on. Back at the Martin house, Opal beseeched Jake to stop Amanda from leaving. Amanda had flashbacks to the good times with Jake, then grew sad as she saw a dad playing with his wife and baby.... Amanda returned to the Martin house and told Jake that she had forgotten something: him. She admitted that she had run out of David-induced fear and that she wanted to keep her baby. Jake maintained that what he and Amanda had was stronger than anything David could bring their way. "I love you," he told Amanda. Opal was delighted when she walked downstairs and saw Jake and Amanda kissing passionately.
At the hospital, Kendall remained convinced that Ian's situation required their immediate action, and she wanted David to perform the surgery using the Chandlers' experimental valve. David got a call from Gayle telling him that Adam and Krystal were sitting together at the yacht club and that she had heard Krystal threaten Adam.... Scott approached Zach about the surgery and Zach informed him that Ian was not going to have surgery with the valve. Zach told Scott to take a hike. Kendall reported to Zach that there was no change in Ian's condition. Kendall begged Zach to believe that something good was in the offing for Ian.... Zach visited Ian then reconnected with Kendall, to whom he delivered the news that the New York surgeons aren't available to work on Ian. Zach expressed fears about the valve.
Krystal stopped by the hospital to see David. She told him that she and Adam had had an argument. David reiterated his desire to know what Adam is holding over her but she insisted it's something that she needs to handle on her own. They parted on testy terms. Kendall, meanwhile, informed Erica that David was refusing to do the surgery on Ian. Erica resolved to fix that and went to the Chandler mansion. Against Gayle's protests, she barged into the study to see Adam. She begged Adam to convince David to use the valve on Ian. She told Adam that he owes her and that she was calling in her marker. Adam came to the hospital with Erica to see David and, after they made an off-screen deal about what Adam would give David in return for David agreeing to do the surgery, David told the Slaters that he would do the surgery if they could reach an agreement about the valve. Zach and Kendall gave their consent and leaned on each other for support.
At the yacht club, Erica's arrival interrupted Krystal and Adam's heated confrontation. Krystal bolted. Across the club, JR apologized to Marissa for getting off on the wrong foot with her and thanked him for stopping him from taking a drink back at ConFusion. They agreed to begin anew. JR opened up to Marissa about his fears about Ian's health. Marissa shared her own sob story about her parents' death. Scott showed up and informed JR that the Slaters won't give consent to Jake to perform the surgery and that David won't perform the surgery with the Chandler valve. Marissa was amused by JR's dismissal of Scott.
Erica told Krystal that Adam had told her what he was using to blackmail her with. Krystal was dubious.
Adam returned home and told Scott and JR that David was doing the operation with the valve, after all. "What did you promise him?" JR demanded. "I did what I had to do," Adam hedged. JR instantly accused Adam of giving Little Adam to David.
Thursday
At the hospital, Erica claimed to Krystal that Adam had told her Krystal's secret. "Nice try," scoffed Krystal.
Jake declared his love for Amanda and swept her into a kiss. Opal spied it from the hallway and was delighted. "Hallelujah!" she exulted, interrupting the moment. Opal made herself scarce and Amanda gave Jake the chance to retract his declaration. He assured her of his love and they made a pact not to talk about their (baby) plan for a whole day. Their next stop? The bedroom, where they re-consummated their passion, navigating around her baby bump.
David told Zach and Kendall that Ian was ready for surgery. Zach helped give Kendall the strength to say good-bye to the baby. Ryan got to the hospital and assured an insecure Erica that Kendall needs her. Erica went to the chapel to pray to Mona for guidance. Opal arrived and advised Erica to look inside herself for strength.
At the yacht club, Tad told Ryan that Stuart had seen Adam with the ribbon at the gate the day that Dixie died. Tad also vented about Adam blackmailing Krystal. Ryan excused himself when he got the call that Ian was going into surgery. Tad then got acquainted with Marissa, his server, and when Krystal walked in, she blasted Marissa for interfering in yet another part of her life. Tad asked Krystal why she had jumped down Marissa's throat and urged her to confide in him. Finally, Krystal confessed that Marissa was her child. Tad advised Krystal to tell Marissa the truth since her adoptive parents had just died. Krystal admitted to Tad that David is Marissa's father, that Babe had a twin and that she had sold one of her daughters.
JR blasted Adam for offering David visitation rights to Little A to get him to do the surgery on Ian. "You have no right to pimp my son!" he bellowed. Adam defended himself. Scott sided with JR, telling Adam that he shouldn't have bartered JR's son, then excused himself to go to the hospital to find out how the surgery was going. Dr. Chappell came to see Adam and JR, warning them that the valve was not ready to be used on a human patient. Adam maintained that everything would be fine. Adam insisted to JR that they
pretend that Dr. Chappell had never been there. Against Adam's wishes, JR called Scott and told him to stop the surgery because Chappell had said that the valve would fail. "You're a fool," scowled Adam to JR. JR wondered how his father could sleep at night. Adam, meanwhile, was alarmed when a nurse told him that the surgery was already nearly complete.
Kendall panicked to Zach about whether they had done the right thing. She asked Erica to sit with her, but Kendall couldn't remain still and rushed out. Ryan followed her. Opal tried to soothe Erica. Scott came in to the waiting room and found Zach, who told him he hadn't heard anything yet. Scott took a seat and tried not to betray his fraying nerves. Ryan took Kendall to the chapel, where she prayed for Ian to survive. David came to inform Zach that Ian was going to be just fine. Zach happily shook his hand, then went to find Kendall. Scott was overwhelmed with relief. Kendall was
thrilled when David gave her the good news.
Scott returned home and told JR and Adam that Ian was going to be fine. Adam wanted the three to make a pact never to talk about Chappell's visit. JR suspected that Scott would agree to save his own behind.
Friday
Marissa served Aidan at the yacht club; she dug his British accent. Annie called Aidan on his cell phone. He stopped her from identifying her whereabouts over the phone. After a brief call, they hung up. Unbeknownst to Aidan, Annie wasn't calling from the Maldives — she was observing him from across the yacht club. The man Aidan had hired to keep an eye on Annie called with the bad news that Annie had given him the slip. Aidan sighed that he knew where Annie was heading.
Kendall and Zach were overjoyed to spend time with Ian after his surgery. Erica entered and Ryan soon followed, alerting the family to the fact that David and Scott were conducting a press conference lavishing praise on Chandler. Back at the mansion, Adam planned a party to celebrate the
company's success. JR didn't share Adam's optimism. "Ian Slater has a ticking time bomb in his chest," JR reminded his dad.... Erica said that the baby was the best of both of his parents. Kendall reminded Erica that she and Zach aren't together and aren't getting back together.... Zach thanked
David for not publicly identifying them during the press conference. David reminded them that Ian isn't out of the woods yet. Zach expressed suspicion of David, which Kendall pooh-poohed. Zach icily said that Kendall was right;
they shouldn't express their feelings to each other. Erica told them that Adam was having a gathering to celebrate the surgery. Zach said he was staying with his son but urged the others to go. Krystal, meanwhile, asked David why he had consented to help the Chandlers by performing the surgery.
David told Krystal that he now had Adam's permission to visit with Little A and that they had been invited to the Chandler mansion for a party that afternoon.... Kendall joined Zach in Ian's room and asked why he didn't believe David's prognosis. Zach replied that he had seen lies in David's eyes. Kendall insisted that she couldn't think that way.
When Scott got home, Adam gave him a check to give to Dr. Chappell "for a job well done." JR didn't think that Adam could throw money at the problem but Adam was confident that Dr. Chappell "wouldn't be a problem for long." Scott went to see the doc, who watched the end of David's press conference. When Scott entered, the doctor warned that they needed to make things right.... Marissa came to the mansion with the food for Adam's party. JR told Marissa about some of the terrible things David had done. Gayle urged Adam to take it easy. Erica showed up, followed by David and Krystal. David proffered documents for Adam to sign. Adam explained to Erica that he had used time with Little A to convince David to do the surgery. Erica wondered how JR had reacted. He avoided the question as the soiree got underway. Ryan went home and grabbed Emma before heading to the party at the mansion. Aidan arrived shortly thereafter and broke into the penthouse. When Opal entered, Aidan scared her half to death. Opal then saw Annie on the patio and screamed.
David played with Little Adam in his room, delighted to see his grandson again. JR went ballistic when he found them together. After a brief squabble with JR, David got word from Gayle that Adam seemed more lucid. David noted that they should up his dosage, then. Shortly thereafter, Gayle insisted that Adam take his meds. Scott returned home and told Adam that the doctor wouldn't take the money and had torn up the check. Scott told Adam that the doc's silence can't be bought, so Adam wanted to figure out another way to ensure his silence.... David noticed Scott's dour mood and urged him to lighten up. David told Scott that he had had to improvise during the surgery to save Ian's life due to the valve's defect and that he should fix it before it's used again. Scott told JR that Chappell was right; there had been a problem with the valve. JR told Scott that Adam would stop at nothing to keep the company from going under. Scott made a covert call to Chappell, who didn't answer. Chappell did, however, answer a knock at his door.... Adam tried to make a speech to the partygoers but the medication was making him foggy, so Erica stepped in and proposed a toast to David for saving Ian's life. Next, JR spoke, saying he was grateful for the resounding success of the valve. David and Gayle exchanged evil grins.
Scott went back to the doctor's suite and was mortified to find that he had hung himself.
Kendall went to get some coffee. Zach gazed down at his son and became alarmed. "Ian!" he gasped.
