Liza and Tad pondered the incriminating photos of D.A. Willis that David had given her. He wondered how badly she wanted Willis's job. She admitted that she wanted it badly but decided that she couldn't blackmail Willis to get it. Tad was proud of her.
David told JR that he knows he has cancer and demanded to know why he hadn't told Marissa. JR defended his actions. David left and JR comforted Marissa, who was still crushed over her father's diagnosis. JR and Marissa agreed to postpone their trip so that she could spend some time with David. They then decided that they did need to take a trip, as they deserved some alone time and a belated honeymoon. She sensed his hesitation; he covered and told her that she made him truly happy. JR and Marissa made love; he began to weep and told her that his cancer was back.
Jake and Amanda spent some quality time together after she agreed that they shouldn't talk about David. The mood became less festive when she found a present from David to Trevor. A testy Jake commented that David slipped the present into Amanda's bag to continue to manipulate her. She assured him of her devotion. Jake faked a call from the hospital and said he'd be back as soon as possible. Jake went to Tad's and vented about David's omnipresence. Tad urged Jake to keep fighting for his wife by forgetting about Hayward. Back at Jake's, Amanda snuggled with Trevor and gave him David's present.
Kendall and Kat burst in as Zach had a gun trained on Aidan. Kendall told Zach that Kat had called the cops and begged him not to shoot Aidan. Zach put down his weapon. Kendall blasted Aidan for his misdeeds. Aidan apologized to Kendall. The cops hauled Aidan and Kat away. Zach brought Kendall back to the hotel and they made love. Afterwards, he apologized for not having had faith in her. She understood, pointing out that he couldn't have known that Aidan had gone nuts. She explained that she had initially run away to save him, which just made him feel worse, but she insisted that he had nothing to feel badly about. He slipped her wedding ring back onto her finger.
David encountered Liza at ConFusion and she refused to tell him what she was going to do with the incriminating pics. Liza met with Willis and showed him the snapshots. "What do you want?" he asked. She asked him to explain the affair, which he did. He insisted that their relationship had never affected the courtroom, a notion that she scoffed at. He told Liza that he wasn't going to resign and stormed out. She grabbed the pictures and left; David tipped his glass at her on her way out. Amanda phoned David and told him that she couldn't get Trevor back to sleep. He told her to put the phone on speaker and he sang Trevor a lullaby. Jake returned to the loft in time to hear David singing; she slammed down the phone and explained why she'd called. "It's all right," said Jake.
Liza went back to Tad's and told him that she wasn't going to expose Willis's affair. She burned the photos.
Tuesday
Everyone in Pine Valley got into the holiday spirit. Erica was elated that Zach and Kendall were on their way home and excited to decorate her house for them. Ryan arrived and was wary about being there when Kendall comes home. She assured him it would be okay. Opal saw that Liza sent Tad a holiday gift basket and suggested that they're interested in each other, then wondered why they're both denying it. Tad didn't appreciate her needling.
At Chez Hubbard, Jesse and Angie were sympathetic toward Madison, who was upstairs sleeping. Jesse got a call from Natalia saying they got custody of Beardsley. Madison entered and was happy about her father's arrest. Angie had a heartfelt chat with her about testifying against her dad. Madison worried that he'll set out to destroy the Hubbard family. Meanwhile, at the station, Beardsley summoned Liza as his attorney and brought her up to date on the case. He was certain he'd be innocent.
On the plane, Kendall and Zach vowed to start fresh together. Kendall worried about the turbulence. The captain announced that they're being forced to land in Ohio and won't make it to Pennsylvania for the holiday. Kendall and Zach were understandably upset. Meanwhile, in Pine Valley, Ryan helped Erica put up holiday decorations. They flirted as Ryan called La Kane out for only wanting him to be around as her "man servant." Their kiss was interrupted by Opal, who took credit for Erica being back. Kendall called Erica to tell her about their flight being cancelled, but said they're renting a car to make it back to P.V. before Christmas. Opal had a very bad feeling about Zach and Kendall being on the road and urged Erica to tell them to find another way home because of a nightmare she had. So, Erica called but there was low battery on Zach's phone and they didn't answer.
Jesse and James butted heads at the police station. James threatened to call him out on obstruction of justice and expose Jesse's corrupt ways. Jesse called his bluff and then told Liza he wants to arraign the DA. Meanwhile, Natalia broke the news to Liza that they found the DA and he's dead from a car crash. Liza phoned Tad with the news about Willis's death. She worried that it wasn't an accident. He advised her to stay mum. When Jesse inquired about Willis, she told him it'd be tough to find him. Later, Liza and Tad met up. She expressed her overwhelming sense of guilt regarding the DA. Then she got a call from the Mayor asking her to run for the DA position.
Madison was alone and restless at the Hubbard household. Later, Angie and Jesse came home and were stunned to find that she was gone. She had gone to the police station. She sneaked in to see her father and demanded that he plead guilty and leave the innocent Hubbards alone, lest she expose his lifetime of dirty deals.
At the airport, Kendall ran into a woman and a young boy who were struggling to make it back home for the holiday. She was sympathetic and begged Zach, who was in line to get a rental car, to help them, so he helped the woman get a car. Later, Zach took the only car available. It didn't have four-wheel drive or anything to prepare them for bad weather. Zach was desperate to get Kendall home so he took it anyway and the duo hit the snowy road. Kendall noticed their phone battery was dead. Zach was driving and tried to grab it from her and they swerved off the road. They were stuck but Zach was hopeful a snowplow would come rescue them. They cuddled up together in the car and Zach told Kendall a Christmas story about a princess who would do anything to reunite with her boys (wink, wink).
Back at Erica's, Opal couldn't shake her bad feeling and pointed out that the storm in Ohio is a doozie.
Wednesday
Krystal and Amanda wished Jake a happy birthday. Krystal reported that Tad had left unexpectedly after receiving a phone call. At ConFusion, Tad and Liza discussed Willis's death. David showed up, having been summoned by Liza. David claimed to know nothing about Willis's demise. Jake and Amanda showed up and Amanda defended David to the others. The Martins and Liza returned home in a foul mood sans Amanda, who had elected to stay with David. Everyone tried to calm Jake down. Liza told Tad that she didn't know yet if she was going to run for district attorney. Opal picked up on the spark between Liza and Tad.
Ryan read Emma a story. She pointed out that they had yet to hang Greenlee's ornament. Ryan's face clouded.... Opal comforted Erica, who was bummed that Zach and Kendall hadn't made it home. Erica sent her pal home and got a call from Ryan, who suggested that they watch a movie together over the phone. Ryan popped in the DVD and was stunned to find that instead of the film he was expecting, it was Greenlee's final message to him. Ryan covered and hung up, then watched the message about how Greens wanted him to be happy with or without her. Ryan went to see Erica at the Slater house and told her about Greenlee's message. Ryan told Erica that he wanted to move forward with her. She kissed him and told him that she wanted the same thing. They kissed again before he left to spend Christmas morning with Emma.
Father Clarence appeared to Zach and Kendall as they slept. The Slaters woke up, still stuck in their car, which wouldn't start. They noticed a church in the distance. They went in and were stunned to find Father Clarence, who claimed not to recognize them. Slater opened up to Clarence about his desire to start over with Kendall. Kendall then chatted with Clarence herself. Zach and Kendall imagined starting over with a clean slate. When they woke up, they realized that their entire encounter with Clarence had been a dream — and that they'd had the exact same dream. All of a sudden, their car worked again. They drove off toward home. When they got there, Kendall was overjoyed to see her place and her mom. Zach ran and got the boys; a warm reunion ensued.
In Gloucester, Nurse Gayle gazed upon her patient and gasped, "My God!" She phoned David, who was at Wildwind with Amanda, and told him that he needed to get to Gloucester immediately because a miracle had occurred with his patient. David covered to Amanda and told Gayle he was on his way. Amanda returned home and told the Martins that something strange was going on with David, who had booked a private jet to Gloucester. David got to Gloucester and marveled at the charts that Gayle showed him. "I never believed that you would pull through," he told the patient. "Merry Christmas." The patient's identity was revealed: Greenlee!
