AMC Week of August 24, 2009
Monday
Jake tried to keep a frantic Amanda calm when they became aware of a baby that had been brought into Mercy. The baby turned out not to be Trevor; Amanda broke down crying in Jake's arms.
David refused to release Marissa from the hospital despite her insistence that she is perfectly fine. Once alone, she phoned JR for back-up in planning an escape. David lost his cool when he discovered her missing. Meanwhile, JR carried Marissa to the yacht club. They agreed to focus on themselves and forget about David and sealed the deal with a kiss. They went to lunch and a food fight and more smooches ensued. David interrupted their buss and tried to convince Marissa to return to Wildwind with him (for her health, of course). Marissa ordered David and JR to stop fighting when it began to get heated between them. JR let Marissa and David speak privately and David once again tried to discourage Marissa from seeing JR. She told him that he would lose her if he kept interfering with her life. David got her to agree to move into Wildwind for a few days, as a compromise.... JR continued not to feel well. He told Scott, who showed up at the yacht club, to have dessert with Marissa. JR went straight to the hospital looking for Joe — and promptly collapsed. Scott told Marissa that JR had to leave and David smirked that he must be drunk.
Liza dropped by to see Adam; she was seeking Zach's loan money. Scott and Annie were also present and when Liza and Adam left, Annie tried to make amends with Scott and praised him for his new mission statement for Chandler. She wanted him to help her redefine herself. She kept flirting with him, however, and he advised her to begin to be a better person by ceasing to play games with him.
As Zach and Kendall snoozed in the secret room, Ryan encountered Jesse in the living room and Ryan was suspicious when Jesse stated that he had broken in. Zach woke up upon hearing Ian's cries and was poised to leave Kendall in the secret room when Ryan beat him to the nursery. Zach insisted to Kendall
that they can't reveal their plan to Ryan. Zach believed that Jesse could develop a suitable cover story. Adam and Liza arrived and Zach made an entrance, playing dumb and demanding to know what everyone was doing there. Zach claimed that he had been in the basement. Ryan blasted Zach for failing to be attentive to the boys. Ryan and Zach had words over Annie. Adam informed Ryan that Annie's competency hearing was set for that day. After he left, Ryan accused Zach of trying to get revenge on him for sleeping with Kendall. Zach denied it and Ryan decked him before storming out as Kendall listened in, unseen. Liza urged Zach to let Ryan know what he's really up to but he refused. Via the baby monitor, Liza heard Spike asking for his mommy to "come back to my room."
Adam walked back in during a close moment between Annie and Scott. They easily distracted him by turning the conversation to Chandler Enterprises. Adam was pleased to tell them that thanks to his loan to Zach, Ryan and Zach were at each other's throats. Adam, Barry and Annie prepared for Annie's hearing; she was extremely nervous. Jesse showed up to escort Annie to the hearing. When they entered the courtroom, Adam and Annie blanched: Ryan was there. "He came to make sure I rot in prison," accused Annie.
Tuesday
Kendall panicked when, via the baby monitor, Spike seemed to reveal her presence to Liza. Zach was poised to cover but Liza jumped to the conclusion that Spike has an imaginary mommy. Zach rushed upstairs and berated Kendall for getting out of the secret room. Back downstairs, he escorted Liza out. Kendall followed him and made it clear that she doesn't want him around Liza. Zach urged her to let him focus on Annie. She kissed the place on his face where Ryan had struck him. Zach told her that he doesn't want Liza. Kendall asked him to admit that he doesn't love her anymore. He wouldn't say it because, according to him, it wasn't true. "I wish I could stop loving you but I can't," he acknowledged.
JR collapsed at the hospital. Angie examined him and wanted to run some tests. Marissa showed up and asked JR why he had left the yacht club so suddenly. He claimed to have wanted to make an AA meeting. Marissa told JR that she was going to get David to support their relationship; JR was dubious.... Angie stressed to JR the importance of the blood tests when he balked at submitting to them. He relented when she assured him that the results would be kept confidential. Later, Angie broke the news to JR that she was very concerned by the results.
Jake and Tad discussed Jake and Amanda's time in Gloucester. A distressed Amanda went outside to get some air. Jake dashed off after her. Liza showed up and admitted to Tad that she is falling for Zach. Tad warned her that Zach would never get over Kendall.
Adam was livid when the judge allowed Ryan to remain at Annie's competency hearing. Annie testified on her own behalf and made a good showing; Ryan leaped up and insisted passionately that Annie is still a danger to Emma. His harsh words made Annie cry. Adam defended Annie. Annie apologized to the judge for the effect her actions had had on Emma. The judge declared Annie fit to stand trial but denied her visitation with Emma. Later, Adam phoned the judge (who is in his pocket) to demand that the trial be set to begin as quickly as possible. Annie, meanwhile, phoned Ryan to warn him that as soon as she is free, she is going to take her daughter back.
Amanda went to the hospital and lashed out at David, saying that it was his fault that her baby was gone and now she would never get him back. Jake caught up to her and she cried in his arms as David processed Amanda's words. Jake tried to cover Amanda's slip to David. Marissa caught up with David and embraced her father, telling him that she wanted to be in his life. He was delighted.... Jake visited Amanda, who had been given a sedative and taken a nap. She apologized for her outburst. Jake promised her that they would reunite with Trevor.
Zach and Kendall were interrupted when Liza unexpectedly returned to the house and planted a huge kiss on Zach. Suddenly, Kendall appeared and clocked Liza over the head. Liza fell unconscious without having seen her assailant.
Wednesday
Angie got JR's blood test results and was concerned by them. She wanted to admit JR to the hospital immediately. She admitted that he might have cancer. He bolted.
David welcomed Marissa home to Wildwind. All was fine until he said that he had invited Scott over and began to speak ill of JR. She agreed to stay only if he told Scott not to come, but just then, the doorbell rang. Scott came in and Marissa told Scott that David was trying to play matchmaker for them. David had to leave and Marissa told Scott that she is concerned about JR. Scott told Marissa that he was okay with them just being friends. Scott left and ran into JR outside. Scott told JR not to mess with Marissa. JR went inside and told Marissa that he didn't want to play games anymore. He swept her into a kiss.
Frankie and Randi snuggled with the baby and decided to give him a name: Matthew Franklin Hubbard.... Madison hung up on her lawyer, who had yet to get her the money from North's insurance policy. Jesse approached and she lashed out at him for complicating her pay-out. He reminded her that he would do whatever it took to protect his family. Madison was surprised by the sudden arrival of her father, who informed her that he wasn't going to support her financially.... Jesse saw Natalia and asked if he could join his daughter. Frankie showed up and when Jesse said he might drop by to see Randi, Frankie told him to call first. Once alone with his sister, Frankie and Natalia discussed the baby and Nat's failed efforts to locate its parents. Natalia urged Frankie to come forward with the baby because Randi was getting so attached to him, she might not be able to survive losing him down the line. After Nat left, Frankie saw Madison and she tried to blackmail him for cash.
Kendall bashed Liza over the head when she kissed Zach. Liza fell unconscious and Zach blasted Kendall for her impetuous attack. He ordered her upstairs. Liza stirred and Zach spun a story for her as to how she had hurt herself (struck by a falling door, he claimed). Kendall listened as
Liza said that she wanted to talk to Zach about their relationship. She admitted that she couldn't get their one-night stand out of her head even as he tried to downplay its significance. Kendall's eyes widened when Liza noted that Zach had kept her secret about faking her pregnancy. Zach pronounced to Liza that he loves his wife even though she's behind bars. David arrived to examine Liza. Zach urged her to go to the hospital for further observation. After David and Liza left, Kendall confronted Zach about keeping Liza's secret. Zach told her to go to bed and insisted that he doesn't have feelings for Liza. When Kendall kept pushing her, Zach revealed that he kept Liza's secret in order to blackmail her into serving as Kendall's lawyer. Kendall still wasn't satisfied, accused Zach of having something going on with Liza and stalked upstairs. Zach went into the secret room but Kendall wasn't there. She was waiting for Zach in his bed. She told him to prove to her that he loves her.
At the hospital, David told Liza that he thought she had a mild concussion and she wondered what would happen to her baby if anything happened to her. David was confused by her test results because her injury wasn't consistent with a door falling on her. He thought that based on her injury, it looked like a person had hit her.
Angie encountered Jesse at the hospital. They decided to go visit Randi. Angie tried to reach her but Randi didn't answer because she was tending to the baby.... Natalia showed up at Frankie's and found Randi panicked because the baby was feverish.
Thursday
Tad and Jake watched Amanda in her hospital room as she slept fitfully. Jake told Tad that Amanda had had a meltdown. Jake blamed himself; Tad tried to buoy his spirits.
Kendall surprised Zach in his bed and told him to prove that he loved her. He didn't think that sex would solve anything.... David told Liza that he thinks someone hit her over the head. Liza said that that was impossible since no one had been at the house except for her and Zach. Liza let it slip that she had kissed Zach but denied that they were having an affair.... He chastised her for attacking Liza. She asked him if he would ever forgive her for sleeping with Ryan. Without answering, he told her to work on her book and said he was going to go check on Liza. Kendall wrote a fictional account of Zach and Liza's first encounter at the casino. She scratched that and wrote a different account in which he stopped Liza by showing her his wedding ring. Kendall lamented that that's not how it went down. Kendall imagined Zach telling her that he was leaving her for Liza. Next, she imagined Zach forgiving her and them reuniting.... Liza again saw David. When she insisted that she's not in love with Zach and told David that she despised the doc, David just smiled.... Back in the secret room, Kendall asked Zach how Liza was. "She'll live," he responded, then closed the door behind him, leaving Kendall all alone.
At the casino, Frankie refused to give into Madison's blackmail demands. His phone rang and he walked away to answer. It was Randi, letting him know that Matthew was ill. Frank told her to take the baby to the hospital. Natalia, Randi and the baby went to the hospital. Frank arrived and Nat again warned him to go to the proper authorities about the baby.
At the hospital, David confronted Zach about Liza's injury. Liza told Zach that she doesn't think Zach hit her over the head. Liza then approached Tad and Jake and demanded that Jake tell her who her baby's birth parents are. Jake told her that it was a closed adoption. Liza was sympathetic about Amanda's plight. Jake went back to his wife's room and she was missing. Amanda went upstairs and saw Trevor behind a locked door. She was desperate
to get to him and ran off to get help from Jake. Randi watched her go, then told Frank that they had to get out of there. Amanda caught up to Jake, who told him that she had found their son. Tad and Jake both dismissed her claim. Amanda insisted on bringing Jake upstairs but the baby was gone. Amanda grew hysterical an collapsed into Jake's arms.... Frankie told Natalia that he agreed with her, that he and Randi were in over their head and he then expressed his concern about Randi's mental state.
JR swept Marissa into a kiss. She asked him where this was coming from. Without telling him about his health problems, he told her that he wanted her and didn't want to wait. Marissa said that they had all the time in the world. JR ended up running out. Tad ran into JR and asked why he was at the hospital. "I'm having some tests run," he replied. When Tad pressed further, a dazed JR stated, "I think I have cancer."

Friday
Scott told Adam that from reviewing Zach's financials, it appears that his
need for a loan is legit. Annie looked suspicious.
At the casino, Jesse confronted Zach about the injury Liza sustained at the
Slater house. Zach admitted that Kendall had hit Liza over the head. Liza
arrived and told Zach that she was removing herself as Kendall's lawyer.
Zach wouldn't accept her resignation. He returned home and told Kendall that
Liza wanted off the case but that he didn't want her to quit, which set
Kendall off, but Zach explained that his reasons had nothing to do with his
feelings for Liza.
At the hospital, Gayle phoned David to tell him that Jake and Amanda had
been in Gloucester asking about a baby. David reeled when Gayle revealed
that Amanda had been their looking for her own baby.
Frank told Randi that they had to go through the proper legal channels to
adopt Matthew. Randi thought it was too great a risk. Natalia arrived and
asked if they were ready; Randi balked. Frank soon found her and the baby
missing.
Angie told JR that the biopsy results indicate that he has a rare form of
lymphoma. Angie explained his treatment options. JR needed some time to
think it over. When he returned home in a bad mood, Adam lit into him and
accused him of drinking. JR stormed off and Adam vowed not to let JR's
drinking affect Little Adam (or make Little A susceptible to David). Zach
came by the Chandler manse and talked to Scott about the loan. Zach denied
that there was anything sketchy going on. Zach then met up with Annie and
apologized for trying to get her to confess to killing Stuart. He did his
best to curry favor with Annie. Back at the house, Kendall dreamed about the
night of Stuart's murder as someone sneaked into the house....
At home, Jesse surprised Angie with a picnic. Their smooching was
interrupted by the arrival of Randi and the baby. "I need your help,"
pleaded Randi. She told Jesse and Angie everything. Frank arrived and was
relieved that Randi was there. While Angie examined the baby, Randi
apologized to Frank for running off. Randi had a bad reaction when Angie
thought that Randi shouldn't accompany the baby to the police station but
Angie convinced her to relinquish the boy. Randi then had a mini-breakdown
and blurted out that she had killed North. Natalia was floored, especially
when Randi added that Jesse had helped her cover it up.
Liza met up with Marissa at the hospital. They discussed their respective
recent dealings with David and Liza told Marissa that she had tried to quit
Kendall's case. David then kidnapped Liza and held her at gunpoint at
Wildwind, accusing her of faking a pregnancy to take his baby. He had pieced
together that Stuart wasn't his son and that his actual son was missing.
Liza tried to deny it but David was on the warpath. Out of options, Liza
spilled the whole enchilada to David.
JR brought Little Adam to Babe's grave. Marissa found him there and praised
him as a good dad.
